Asia: East and PacificRobert & Van's Interview.
That is wonderful news!!!!

We are so happy for you, Van, and your daughter.

WE GOT THE PINK

Details:

Van went back to the consulate at 1:00 she was the first 1 called up. She had a young women whom interview her, And she was very polite. The interviewer was very happy that van spoke english. But the interviewer was Very upset with one of the employees there cause they lost van's police report. But finaily they found it. The interview only lasted about 5 Min's.

There were ony 4 questions they ask her:

1. How did you and robert first make contact?
2. show her the first e-mail that we made contact?
3. ask for 5 photos of us. One of the photo that the interviewer noticed was a picture of me in my Home office and saw a 8x10 photo of van on the wall. She really liked that one.
4. Who all Lives in Roberts home in the U.S.?

They never ask Thu "Vans Daughter" any question's.

Then the interviewer Told van that she could pick up there Passports On Wed after 4:00 not like I said on the 1st post That day after 4:00

Now today I will call in for our plane tickets And I will leave For HCMC on Sunday Nov 19th and stay Till Dec 1st. And bring My New Daugher And Wife Home with me.

Asia: East and PacificHCMC Denied and Sent Case back to NVC
Chuck and Kim,

You should contact with Martindart. I believe that his case was denied and then returned, sorry if I am mistaken. He might be able to tell you what he had to do to get his appealed. If your friend is in need of a good lawyer, PM me. I can refer your friend to him, if he is willing to work on the case.

I wish them the best of luck!!!!

Asia: East and Pacificdam hoi
I totally agree with ChuckandKim. I really do think that the Dam Hoi is very important to the consulate, as well as her family saving face. Even if her parents say it is ok not to have one, I would still go for it. This is a tradition in Vietnam.

I know when my fiancee had her interview she was asked if we had the ceremony, which she replied yes. Then she was asked more specific details about it. It would definately in your best interest to have this ceremony.

Good Luck!!!!

I can only give you what is considered Propers to vietnamese people. The exception is always expected in this type of marriage, in your case, having a Dam Hoi can only help your case for more evidence of the relationship. I am not talking about being poor or what not, what is being expected of us, when we are married or engaged to a vietnamese woman.

In your case, her mother doesn't care, or doesn't expect to have her daughter to have an engagement ceremony, it's good and bad. Good because of your statement of being "dirt poor", no expense needed. Bad news, HCMC Consulate Officer is not your typical american who believes the american's style of engagement is "Would you marry me, here is the ring" and BAM you two are now engaged. The Consulate Office expects to see an actual Engagement ceremony in most case, in my opinion. Therefore, by giving them the "dirt poor" reason will cause more attention from them during your visa process, they may get tough on your Affidavit of Support evidence and more.

I am not sure I understand the following statement: "and all the other facters such as she was labled a cold blood for leaveing her first husband and her family being so far a way "...

As far as whether or not if it is as big of a deal as everyone has been saying, IT IS A BIG DEAL if you do not have at least a small ceremony and reception. If you search, you will find folks actually being asked about the ceremony and the reception, how many people were there, what kind of foods were served, who were there? Why don't you have an engagement? Why didn't his parents come back for the engagement? Just avoid these questions simply having an engagement, you can't go back for an engagement is something I am not sure it will be deemed as "good reason" in HCMC's typical case.

I hope things work out for you. Yes, it is big deal to have the engagement.

Asia: East and PacificWE GO IT!!!!
One thing I have learned going thru this process is the fact that you are just 1 of how many cases? You can call the consulate 50 times, but it is not going to help get your case finished faster. The consulate has you by your tail, and they will do what they want when they want and take however long they want. As someone has told me many of times, focus on the big picture. We all love getting what we want when we want it, but we have no choice in this process. Believe me I know how hard it is sitting there not knowing how long it will take, but why kill your self over it. You cannot change it, you can only focus on one thing and that is your relationship. Take that time while you are waiting and make your relationship even stronger.

We used the services of a very good lawyer, which cleared up some mistakes made by the staff at the consulate made on our case which could have caused us to get the white paper. He also cleared up the other concerns that the consulate had about our case, which resulted in her getting the Visa. Without his services our case would have been denied and we would have never known why. Without his services who knows how long that decision would have taken. If you’re truly interested in his services please send me an email thru VJ and I can refer you to him. Please don’t waste his or my time if you are not interested in his services, because he is not going to give you free legal advice. I don’t get anything out of this either, just the satisfaction of helping someone out, the same way another VJ member did for me. Thanks, you know who you are.

We wish the best to everyone, and hope that everyone of you will experience the wonderful feeling when your SO finally comes home.

Yes we used the same lawyer, and we hired him after her interview was already over. He just gives you the straight facts and delivers the true honest facts to the consulate for you. Helps clear up any concerns the consulate has about your case so they can make a decision.

Good Luck to those waiting!!!!!

We are doing very well here in Pittsburgh!!!! We got Married on December 15th, and enjoyed the wonderful holiday season together. Just in the process of filing for AOS and EAD. Everything is going much better than I expected it to for the first month. I expected a lot of rough times due to my wife missing her family and friends, along with the cultural differences, but our relationship gets stronger with everyday that passes.

Asia: East and Pacifichow many days needed for medical exam?

mike1972e's wife medical exam took 10 if I am not mistaken.

My wife lived in Hanoi and we were worried about the same thing. Her interview was scheduled for a Monday, so we decided that she should fly to Saigon 12 days before the interview. She arrived late Wednesday night, and had her medical done on that Friday, which would make the Friday before her interview one week. From what I recall she picked up the results on Tuesday or Wednesday. So it really only took 2 or 3 days to get the results. I think it would give you peace of mind to provide at least 1 week as they suggest.

Good Luck!!!!

Asia: East and PacificAbout the burst a gasket!!!
Hey Lurker, great news!!!! I remember when my Vo called me and told me the date of her interview which only was a 2 week notice. our problem was the fact that we weren't expecting the interview at that time, so I hadn't sent her everything for the interview. I was freaking out and couldn't calm down too. Take a few thousand deep breaths, and focus my friend. I know you want to be there for her during her interview, and believe me, I wanted to be there also. Whith the timing and the costs, it might be in your best interest to wait until after she gets the Visa to fly there. My Vo got the Blue slip if you recall, and when I went to visit her this past November, with the help of my lawyer she got the pink slip. We went to the consulate immediatley to hand the pink slip and her passport in. I was waiting outside and saw an American standing on the other side of the street. Then the moment came, as she walked across the street and she told him no, she didn't get the pink slip. You could just see the disappointment in his face, not in her, but at the decision. After letting them talk for a while, I approached them and gave them the phone number for my lawyer, and hopefully he can get them the pink. So there we were two Americans, one coming home with his Vo (me) and one leaving his Vo again and not knowing when she will get the Pink. Just use this time before her interview and make sure she has everything in order and knows exactly what each piece of evidence is.

Good Luck!!!!!

I was worried the same way you are, but they will guide you thru. About your speech, what I did was have a friend who could translate for me be by my side. When it was my turn to speak, we both stood up, and he translated everything for me. The translator was more nervous than I was because he didn't want to translate anything wrong. I did not prepare anything, I just spoke my true feelings at that moment. The excitement before seeing your beautiful fiancee, and the thoughts of sharing your lives together should bring words to your mind that come straight from your heart.

Good Luck, and ENJOY this precious tradition!!!!
