I know.. if I hadn't had the chest x-ray we wouldn't know I was sick until "who knows when"
I'm a perfectly healthy person and I have no symptoms.. the outlook is good. Thanks for all your prayers and thoughts. Much appeciated!!

We don't want to have to start the whole K1 process over again, seeing as it went so well the first time. But hopefully something will work out. I wish I knew if anyone had to deal with the same issue!

KitKat

I am so happy to know that you have dealt with Hodgkin's. I'm told that of all the cancers, it has the best success rate.. not to mention that those treated go on to live full lives. I think that I am going to stay here in Canada. Most of my treatment is covered, so that is the best choice for me. Would you suggest I go ahead with my visa interview?

If your interview is in July (you say it's next month), then you have 6 months, which would be January, in order to use it. Then, after you activite the Visa, you have 90 days to get married.

I am sorry to hear of your health problem..... you and your fiance will be able to support each other through this.

Good luck and best wishes to you both.

I don't know if they would still allow me to enter on my visa if I'm currently sick.

Thanks so much.. I was planning to call the consulate. It wouldn't be until I have a clean bill of health that I would start with the visa again.
It's just difficult to figure out. Thanks so much for the support!

So, when I got my results for my medical, there was a note attached saying that there was something abnormal seen on my chest x-ray. Went to see my doctor and after many tests I found out yesterday that it is Hodgkin's (a type of cancer). The problem is that I have my interview next month. With treatment and such we can't get married in October. Does anyone know if they might extend the process or will we have to start again?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionEmbassy vs Consolate
I think they will (usually) just automatically put down the consulate that is nearest to your fiancee. I made the same mistake a long time ago when filing, and put down Toronto instead of Montreal, and they just assigned us to Montreal any way.

Thanks, I was afraid of that. Another question, when it's time for the interview under the K1 visa, do both need to be at the interview? Would she have to fly up here for the interview date? If so, how much notice do they usually give for the intervew?

YW smile.gif
Make a trip out of it, that's what Nick and I are doing...Montreal is beautiful!!! We are going to take the train from Toronto and stay for a few days.
The USC is not required at all to attend the interview..it's your interview, not the USC's. She can come with you if she likes though, that's not a problem.
I don't know how much in advance they give the interview..I think it's like a few weeks to a months notice or something...I'm not sure.
I'm sure someone will know!!!
smile.gif

Laura is absolutely correct that the USC is not required to be there, but it sure doesn't hurt! When my wife went for her interview I went up to go with her...funny thing though, when she was called in for the actual interview I was in the bathroom... tongue.gif I wasn't even aware that I was allowed into the room with her but low and behold my wife opened the door to the bathroom and goes: "Hunny....you need to hurry up..they want you in the room too" The majority of the questions asked once I got there were all asked to me, was pretty odd!

That was in 2004, though..and again it's not REQUIRED for the USC to be there, but Montreal was a city I was interested in seeing, and actually being there with my wife for the whole thing was the best support she could have gotten from me. If it's possible for you to go, go...if not, no biggie! good.gif

My wife had about a 1 month notice for her interview, but again, that was 4 years ago and I am not sure how well the system there is flowing now, so take that with a grain of salt.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionTranslator at the interview?
Hello,
I just wanted to post what I found out, in case anyone else ever runs into a similar problem.

I contacted the London embassy with my question via e-mail, after getting the secret code for the subject line of the e-mail over the phone. They responded to my e-mail the day I sent it. I was impressed by this.

They told me that he can provide is own translator, but that I need to give them the name of the translator before the interview so that that person will be allowed into the consulate.

I am going to give them both my name and the name of one of my fiance's bilingual friends so that if I can't attend the interview there is a back-up plan.

Thanks for your help and suggestions :-)!!!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionTranslator at the interview?
Hello everyone,
My fiance is Polish but currently living in Scotland, so we applied for his visa through the embassy in London. We've sent in packet 3 and are waiting for an interview date. I'm concerned though because my fiance's English is not too good. Do any of you know if its possible to get the embassy to provide a translator for the interview? If not, will I be allowed to attend the interview and translate for him?

This waiting for an interview is rough! I'm going to call the DOS tomorrow thought to see if he's got a date yet. Thanks for your help!

National Visa Center (Dept of State)AOS bill generated, but not DS-3032?
Hi all;

Our CR-1 case is currently at the NVC.
They generated the AOS bill (I was notified via e-mail), which I have since paid, and it shows online as having been paid.
However, when I call the NVC, they say that yes, the AOS bill was generated, but the DS-3032 was not. They all find this weird, and make a note on my case about it, but that's about it. Every time I call, I get the same response.
Has anyone else ever encountered this situation? I was under the impression that AOS bill and DS-3032 were generated simultaneously? Any experience with this or advice? Thanks!

Asia: East and PacificSome Good News!!

Mike, let me bring over a few more cold ones so I could share the "nerve wrecking" moments with you. Huong's interview will be conducted at the US Embassy at Ha Noi, thus it will be pretty different with ones in Saigon. Nonetheless, best wishes and ... cheers ...

Is that true? I didn't know they started doing K-1s there.

No it is done in HCMC. Well I got the call I thought might happen. She arrived for her interview and the woman told her that they are sorry but they sent our file back to the National Visa Center and she cannot have her interview. They told her once they have our file back they will schedule the interview. Well, it was sent out on August 7th, and should have gotten there at the end of last week. They told her I need to call NVC. Well I know what they will say, we sent it to the consulate. I called the consulate and the girl could not connect me to a supervisor, and could only tell me to check tomorrow if they received our file. The problem lies in the fact she flew from Hanoi to HCMC and has stayed there for the last 10 days, so she could get the medical. I paid for the plane ticket, hotel, and she missed 10 days of work. Now we don't know if she should fly back home or stay in HCMC. I told her to call there later today and check with them. I know how they treat the locals there, so I don't expect anything from them. Who do I call, and what do I do to find out what she should do????????????

This is a crime!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks everyone!!! I am sitting here drinking a few cold ones, since I could not make it for her interview. I am about stressed as I could get. I am hoping these cold ones will take the edge off. Just a few hours until her interview. This will be a sleepless night either way, and a long day at work tomorrow. Hopefully with great news. I will keep you all posted.

Thank all of you so much from the bottom of our hearts. This has been a stressful journey and now it comes down to these last few days. She went to IOM for her medical and now she is using there services to help organize and prepare for the interview. She had a very short time to prepare since the interview came unexpected, so I think they will help get her prepared. We did some of our own interviews based on questions I feel they would ask her and she was fine. All I Want Is Pink!!! I dream of pink!!!!

Thanks again, you all are the best!!!

Asia: East and PacificNeed clear answer.. how many tax returns, w-2's they really need?

The requirement has recently changed to most recent. If your employment history is stable and income is sufficient that should be ok.

If it would show more income stability to send more than last year then go ahead. Sending 3 years won't be a bad thing. Remember the big picture is to show that you and your fiance meet the requirements / guidelines.

The fewer RFE's the faster the process will go.

I totally agree with you. They will only use your most recent, but if your 2 previous will provide stability then I would say send them. My Fiancee has her interview Aug. 14 and I sent the last 3 years. I have even noticed they didn't mention anything about the bank letter or statements. Has anyone else noticed this?

I hope this helps!

Asia: East and PacificHow often?
Yeah I have the same problems sometimes. She finally got internet at home about 6 months ago. We both were so excited, because this would not limit us to cafe hours of operation. One day it would work great and the next day it would not work and she would have to call the provider and they would instruct her how to fix it. I know the networking there is horrible. Many times when we chat, her cam will freeze or stop, and she has to resend it. I love using skype. We use yahoo messenger for webcams, and skype to talk. The only problem, is the fact you will not have chat logs. I have not figured out if you can print your voice chat logs.

Here's to better interner service!!!

Asia: East and Pacificvisa fraud busted
What a shame. I really think having the petitioner there would be very good and helpful for making the proper decision. My fiance had a 2 week timeframe from the time she got the interview letter tot he interview date. It is a very short notice for someone who lives in the US to ask for time off work as well as getting a Visa, and plane tickets. They would have to give the US citezen an advance warning. My fiance will have her interview in a couple days, and I am just sitting here thinking, Our love and relationship is as true as any relationship. We should have no worries, but with things like this makes it so difficult on everyone. You sit there and worry over every little detail. Did we do everything the way the consulates wants you to do it???? Is that how a relationship should be based? I think those who are fraud would actually know every detail they need before setting there scam up. Those of us who have a true relationship don't go into the relationship and know everything involved for the interview.

Good luck to everyone on their Journey!!!

IOM removed the necessary papers, interesting huh?
They should've known better :(

Yea, my wife got so many different opinions from other local VNs while going through the visa process, fortunately, I could search the internet to distinguish between fact, fiction and myth and guide her. With that said, there were many times, while living in VN, when I was given the wrong info. Always, "Trust but Verify" when dealing with others in VN. (my personal experience)

Good Luck Mike.....

The problem was the fact that we didn't know they removed my divorce papers. If I would have known I would have made sure the were inserted in the correct place.

Asia: East and PacificInterview Date!!!
Here are the details of our nightmare. Huong arrived flew to HCMC 10 days before her interview date so she could get her medical done and ready for the interview. She went to IOM for her medical and while there she spoke to a girl that hired them to help her get organized for the interview. Huong thought this would be a good idea, so she she used IOM services. Well in the process of them going thru all our papers they thought they should get rid of all of my divorce papers. Well my wonderful fiancee grabbed them, just to keep just in case they are needed. She really didn't know what they were, and that is my fault. Well when she got to the consulate the lady at the window was going thru her papers to make sure eeverything was there, and asked where my divorce papers are. Huong was suprised and said, they should be there IOM organized them for me. No Chance. She was told to sit down and wait for her interview. It was her turn for the interview, and these are the questions they asked her:

Her Name
My Name
What she does for work
Complimented her on her English
When did we meet physically for the first time
How many times did I visit her
How long was each visit
When did we get engaged

Then he asked to see our pictures of the engagement, and then the other pics. Then he asked about phone records. She showed him my cell bill which shows an 1-800 # every time I call her, and he asked is this her number. She explained, no it is to show this is Mike's Cell number and he calls this number when he calles to me. Then she showed him the phone card print outs which shows both numbers, he said ok. He said everything seems good, but we need your fiance's Divorce Papers. So he handed her a blue slip which was requesting the documents that IOM took out of her packet. Luckily she had them at the hotel. She then went to the hotel and gathered the needed papers, and took them to the consulate the same afternoon. When she came inside the consulate, guess who was standing there? The interpretor that was on standby for her interview. He was very ignorant to her. She said I have the papers the consulate wants, IOM made a mistake. He looked at a letter and affidavit from my ex wife and her lawyer dated this past April. He asked her how is your fiancee do these papers in April and he know interview will be in August??? He gave her the ignorant flick of his hand, meaning to get out of his face and sit down. After 2 hour wait they gave her a GREEN SLIP. It states that no more evidence is required at this time, and the will notify us after they have finished.

Now we wait and wait and wait!!!

Also like Chuck stated in another post, it was not a good day in HCMC. A lot of Blue Slips.

I might be wrong but a blue slip is not AR is it?
Any way I hope I am correct and I hope you are through this fast.

You are right. I wasn't familiar with AR at the time when I wrote that, but now I know we are not in AR. I really hope that they get this cleared up quickly. I got divorced 10 years ago. I don't understand why they would worry about it, since it was so long ago. I even gave them her new marriage certificate, when she got married 9 years ago. She is still married to the same man, and they both are willing to give me anything I need from them. What is one to do if their exwife hates them and would never help them? Well, the waiting has begun again.

Thanks everyone!!!

Huong got a blue slip. All relationship evidence was good. We used IOM to organize everything for the interview and prepare her, and now we know that wa a mistake. The information I sent to huong regarding my ex-wife was not included with the papers she took to the interview. So the blue slip was requesting this information. She returned to the consulate with the information later in the afternoon, and they gave her another blue slip stating that they have received the required information. They will contact her with the decision.

I will give more detail shortly.

I know it is very hard, but stay positive. We went thru the IMBRA process as well, but thru Vermont. It may take them a few weeks to reapprove your petition. They will then sent it to the National Visa center. It won't take long for them to forward it to the consulate. That is when the real wait begins. I remember it took about 1 1/2 to 2 months to receive packet 3. The best thing to do is to download the packet 3 documents and fill them out. That way when you receive packet 3 from the consulate you can copy your information to the forms the consulate sent you. Return them immediately. Then you will wait about a month for packet 4 to arrive with you interview date. You should do a seach for the timelines. You can do a search for CSC/HCMC/K-1 and you can see the timeframe for each step of other people from this site.

I would definately have your fiance to start getting everything together. All of the required paperwork as well as accumulating evidence of your relationship.

Good Luck to you both!!!!

For those of you that have been given the blue slip, or their fiancee's are staying in Vietnam for a few months after her first set of Vaccinations, make sure your fiancee looks at the paper she received from IOM or the Hospital. My fiancee just noticed that if she didn't enter the US within 2 months of her first set of vaccinations, that she must get the second set by a specific date. She received the first set on Aug. 3rd, and she must get the second set on or before October 3rd. So keep this in mind!!!
