Africa: Sub-SaharanSimple question!!!
Hello to all! I joined this site a while ago, but I am happy to say I have sent my application in for the K1 Visa. The VSC received my package on March 11, and I have not received my NOA1, stating they received my application. I know that I am probably a little to anxious to know that they have started on my petition, but how long does it usually take to receive the NOA1? Also I was just reading someones wonderful story how they were going to pick up their fiancee at a US airport. Do I need to go to my Fiancee's country and come back with her, or am I able to meet her at an airport in the US? It surely would save some money, and I would rather use my vacation days for after she gets here to spend time with her. Thanks for all the help!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 Bank Statement
You know I ran into the same situation even though I use a different bank. THey told me that they have done a letter for other people going thru the same process but never a had to put the total amount deposited over the last year, so I brought in the instructions for the I134 and they told me to just total up my deposits for the year and bring in my statements along with this total, and that they would put this amount on the letter. I hope they will do the same for you.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionrecieved package 3- and have a question!
My fiancee is from Vietnam and she also received this DS-230 Supplement. I was not aware of it either, and now it is holding us up. It is asking for the names of all siblings, any where in the world. Why are they asking about their brothers and sisters? Does this need to be filled out and sent in with the DS-230 Part I or brought to the interview? ANy help on this would be greatly appreciated!!!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionOriginal copies

Certified copies are all one will ever get. There is only one original and that is kept on file at the relevent departments. Remember too, take a photo copy of the certified documents as that is the requirement now. If they wish you to send the certified copy they will ask for but this doesnt seem to happen often at all.

note: when you see reference to originals when it comes to marriage and birth certificates etc it is referring to a certified copy.

In my fiancee's packet 3, it says that my fiancee, her son, and myself all need one original and one certified copy of our birth certificates. I only have the Certified copy that I ordered. Any Advice?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPapers for Consulate
I have some questions about the papers to bring to the interview:

What do you need to do with the passport pics? Do you just bring them or do they need to be attached to any specific form?

DS-230 Part 1 - I know this gets sent back to the consulate in the mail, but it also states that I need to also have that at the interview. Does she fill out 2?

DS-156 says in duplicate. Does this mean they want two of them fille din or can you fill in one and then copy it?

Thanks for your help!!!!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionFurther Processing Questions

it is my understanding that you will need the actual NOA2.... i'm not sure

somebody please advise....

I have never heard of this, and I am pretty sure that you don't need the original. What I did was take it to a notary, and they copied it right there both sides, since they would not accept my copy, and have them notarize the copy saying that it is a true copy of the original. I also did the same with my passport pages that had the Visa stamsp to make sure they know they are a true copy. These being notarized is not required, but I do feel that this would be a plus.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 question - is this ok?
I also have a question regarding the I-134. First question, my fiancee has a son, do I just photocopy the notarized for for him, or do I need to print the same I-134, except put his name and then get it notarized?

Also question number 11, What is everyone checking here? DO you intend or not intend on making specific contributions to support the person named in #3. My lawyer never asked me this question, and he check Not Intend. Is one answer better than the other? If so what has everyone put for this question???

It seems that Thai2luv has some kind of software or something that is invading peoples privacy. I doubt anyone wants their personal settings posted on this board.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 Affidavit of Support

I hired a company to fill out my papers for me, which now I realize I could have done them myself. He had me submit everything with my original petition. I included the I-134, W-2, Bank Letter, Employer Letter, and Bank Statements. The letters are dated in in February of this year, and the I-134 form is dated in March of this year. My question is do I need to get more up to date letters, and I-134 form? Or should I just use the same ones submitted with our original petition. If I should update the I-134, should I just use the same information and just get it notarized again?

Is everyone sending Originals of the supporting evidence for the I-134, or just copies?

Wow, just over 2 months from filing your I-129f to your fiancee receiving the packet 3. You gotta love VSC!
Unless your circumstances have changed (employer, address. etc...) you should be ok with the same paperwork. The I-134 and financial evidence is good for one year. Be sure your provide the consulate with the original signed forms, and more recent evidence of your relationship.

I think that it is pretty Freaking ignorant for you to be invading everyones privacy. Why do you need to have a flag stating everyones private information???????????? By the way your software must have a small glitch in it.

Someone told me that the interview will be more like an interrogation process where we are both put in separate rooms and grilled on every type of question imagineable from what are the names of your fiance's siblings to how your fiance' likes his coffee.

Does anyone have any insight into this? My interview is in Bogota'

I am not sure where you are from but in our cicumstance only the fiancee is interviewed. From what I have learned, they don't ask those kind of questions. They are the basic questions, how did you meet, how many times, etc... If you look in the Region forum you will probably find some people who have interviewed and the questions they were asked, which will help you out greatly. Wish you the best on your journey.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionNeed interview help...
What to send to your fiance(e) once the I-129F is approved (Receive NOA2): :star:

1. A copy of the entire I-129f package (that you made when you sent the petition in) and a copy of information that you sent back due to an RFE (if you received one).
2. Send all originals of the documentary proof that you submitted for the I-129F to your fiance(e) for their interview at the embassy.
3. Send an original letter affirming your desire to marry your fiance(e) and your continued support of the K-1 Visa. Sign and date the form. This will be similar to the letter you provided with the I-129F, but dated much closer to the interview (it will have most likely been several months since you submitted your I-129F).
4. I-134 Affidavit of Support form. Ensure it is signed, with all required supporting evidence. Begin collecting the required information ahead of time, as it can often take several weeks to collect it all.
5. You will likely need at a minimum (for the above form) two to three of your most recent pay stubs and a signed letter from your employer listing you job title, start date, your salary, and the status (full-time) of your position. Begin collecting these ASAP after your NOA2 arrives. You will also probably want to include other evidence such as your banking information and other assets as required by the I-134. Specifically you will need at least 2 of the 4 options mentioned in Section II-Supporting Evidence of the I-134. See this FAQ for more tips and ueful information on the Affidavit of Support Form.
6. A copy of the NOA2 that you received in the mail.
7. Proof of your ongoing relationship. This needs to be taken to the interview! Include photos, travel documents, emails, etc from between the time you filed and present (NOA1 date-now).

Examples: Copies of phone bills, cell phone bills, emails (you can edit personal info with a marker), letters (edit personal info also), stamps on the letters (to document the date they were sent), and other written documentary proof. Provide a reasonable amount; two to four of each type. Pick a range of dates up to and including the present. You can also include a copy of engagement ring receipt (this is something that is a big optional - do not worry if you do not have a ring yet!)

I only sent my fiance the I-864, Casa does not want the I-134 any longer. I did not send bank statements because my income was above the levels needed. But I did include tax transcripts for the past three years. You can get those free by calling the IRS. You will need to sign and date the form and mail it to your fiance. I had to use global express mail and it cost a fortune, but luckily it got there on time. I don't trust their regular mail at all!

Good Luck!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionEmbassy Interview Scheduling in Casablanca, Morocco

hello, all!

(hopefully i've posted this in the proper forum--if not, i apologize!)

our 5-month standard K1 wait will be official on January 30th, so we are hoping to hear something within the next couple of weeks.

that being said, i am interested in hearing from those of you who have interviewed at the Embassy in Casablanca, Morocco.

how far in advance was your interview? what was the amount of time between your NOA2 and interview??

also, i'd be sooooo interested in hearing any updated/last minute/random thoughts about experiences in this embassy!

who else is still waiting for their NOA2 with a SO in Morocco?

looking forward to hearing from you all. :)

Jessica

Hi Jessica,

First of all Congrats on the NA02! Second to answer your question, when my husband had his K1 interview this past year, it took almost 2 months between the NA02 and the interview date...and trust me you will need all of that time to prepare! I highly suggest checking out the "Hoping Not to be Denied in Casablanca" thread in Mena. It is a big thread, but it contains some great advice for keeping it together through the interview process.

Good luck!

Hi everyone,

I filed an I-129F for my fiancee on October 29th, and I never received the NOA1 at my address here in Merida. I didn't realize it at the time but the embassy that I put on the form was the Merida consulate, not knowing that the Merida consulate doesn't do fiancee interviews (a SEVERE lack of research on my part). Will they know to send it to the Ciudad Juarez embassy? I just got an email today that they approved the I-129F petition and they sent the approval notice (yay!). Will it still be ok if I don't receive the NOA2 in the mail but contact Juarez to make sure they get the approval?

One more thing, I didn't make enough money last year to be my fiancee's sponsor, does Ciudad Juarez accept co-sponsors for the affidavit of support?

Thank you!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionYet another change of address question
We ARE driving, but that was after doing some pretty exhaustive research on flight costs. From Merida to Juarez it's working out around $12000 pesos for 2 people round-trip, plus hotel, etc. I thought about taking a bus from Merida to Mexico City and then flying from there but just the bus costs are over $3,000 pesos round-trip and I would be worried that the bus would break down or something would happen that would mean missing the flight to Juarez. If we rent a car at least we can go at a little more relaxed pace. We are going to leave the baby with my fiancee's mom though, just for safety's sake.

I asked a little while ago about changing my mailing address to my mom's address in the U.S. and decided against it based on the advice that I didn't change my *physical presence*. I think I've figured out why the mail hasn't come, though (no NOA1 and so far no NOA2). The K-1 should now be at the NVC if it hasn't already been shipped to Juarez. I asked my mom to have a look at the forms again and tell me what address is on them, and she gave me exactly what I had put, but it seems to be missing the Colonia. I DID receive a piece of mail from my aunt back in December that didn't have the colonia on it (the address is exactly the same as what's on the forms), but I know addresses here in Merida are usually super-specific, listing the streets that the house is in between and sometimes even nearby landmarks ("behind such-and-such store" or "adjacent to the orange tree"). I'm wondering if it would be prudent to call the NVC now and advise them that no mail has been received here, and adjust (not change completely) the address so that it's a lot more specific. Opinions? I'm just worried that NOTHING is going to get here, and I don't want to go to Juarez empty handed or with a scrap of paper with the NVC number written down.

Changing it at the NVC stage probably won't matter. I called to change Aldo's address once it was at the embassy because he was living in the states at the time we filed, so you can do that...no guarantees that it will get to you still. His address in Merida is really specific too, but he still hasn't received a thing and it's been almost 6 weeks since it was mailed from the embassy.

So he's obviously waiting for the packet to arrive before he goes, which is ideally what we'd do as well. We're at a disadvantage though, since we live together, because had I been living in the States I'm sure I would've gotten something. Here, nada. I'll probably give the embassy a call when I'm home next week just for my own peace of mind (but I'll have to call the NVC first anyway to find out my case number).

No, he's not waiting for the packet to arrive. He is going to the embassy next week and having them print the invitation letter for him. I'm here in the states and haven't gotten a thing either...well, I've gotten the NOA2, but nothing since.

Ohhhh, please keep me posted on how that goes (as I'm sure you will in the Juarez thread anyway!), since he's going with nothing (except for his NVC number, I'm assuming). I want to be sure if we are in the same situation (and in that we're going to be DRIVING from Merida to Juarez), going with nothing in hand I'll still be able to print out the invite letter there. I know they say all the time in the Juarez thread that it's okay, but I'll feel a lot better knowing that someone has experienced it first hand (recently). star_smile.gif

My fiance finally got a hold of her US citizen mom and her mom was very mean to her and told her that she banned her from the embassy. She said she had her banned. IS that even possible or is the mom lying? I am 90% sure she is but I want to be 100% sure. She said she had her registered at birth but later had her banned?????

I highly doubt she could have had her banned. I would think that if an action like that were taken, your fiancee would've been informed about it. I would be curious to find out under what circumstances someone can be banned from an embassy without them even knowing it (or having done anything to warrant it, if that's the case here).

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionYet ANOTHER I-134 Question
Hi all,

I didn't make any money this year (well, maybe a total of $200, if that), so I don't qualify to file taxes. I had this job in Mexico, where I've been living/working for the last three years. I haven't qualified to file taxes for the prior 2 years either because I made insufficient income (way, way, way below the $8,000 or so required). I've been primarily supported by some very generous relatives back in the states, but that's another topic altogether. I DID list the jobs I had here in Mexico on the I-129 petition, but since I didn't file taxes on the [very little] money I made here, do I put "0" on the I-134? I'm currently unemployed, and my mom is going to be a co-sponsor. I know this sounds silly but what "evidence" do I need to attach, since I didn't file taxes and am currently unemployed
(actually, I'm a "domestic goddess", but I can't seem to get a job letter for that!).

Also, I read somewhere that if you are residing abroad you don't qualify to file an affidavit of support, that is, be a sponsor. That doesn't make much sense to me since I'm sure that plenty of people go through this process while living abroad. I'm currently in Mexico under a tourist visa, and have rented an apartment here, so do I put my address here in Mexico or my address in the U.S.? I still have my valid driver's license from home, I have an active bank account there, and I'm registered to vote there.

Suggestions?
