Hi David-J and Ivonne'n Jim,

The only forms that they asked for from Marcos were the DS-156 and DS-156K. I filled out and printed 2 copies of each and paperclipped them together. They did not ask for the DS-157, although I did fill out and printed out 2 copies of that as well, and kept it separate, just in case. There was another, simple form that they had at the consulate and I think the consular officer filled it out for him and had him sign it. I don't know the reference number for that form and I have no idea what the form was about. Also fill out the intent to marry form, don't sign any of the forms because the fiance signs in the consulate.

Remember that although others have not had problems at other consulates with 3 ring binders and sheet protectors (and possibly past interviewees at the Juarez consulate have also not had problems), when we were there 3 ring metal binders were prohibited, so we had to take a taxi to Office Depot to buy an accordian folder. It's best to be aware of this before you/your fiancee go there.

Ok, on to the amount of time it takes to get the visa. We arrived in Juarez on a Sunday afternoon and did nothing that day but check into the hotel. Monday was crazy because we went early to print out the invitation letter, did the medical exam, when Marcos got back from the exam he took his passport photos at the mall across the street from the hotel, we paid the bank fee at the Banamex at the same hotel, and then he went to pick his medical results up that afternoon. So basically Monday was really full, there was hardly enough time to eat from the time we got up in the morning til the time he got back from picking his results up at 4 PM. Tuesday morning he went to the interview, and got his DHL reference number, which we kept checking online and via telephone all day and at the last second before DHL closed it showed up as having arrived. So in all, we did everything, include receive the visa in 2 crazy days. The medical exam is what took the longest out of everything we did. What I would recommend is to plan for 4 full days in Juarez, 5 to be safe. If you can afford the hotel for that amount of time, go for it. I liked the hotel because it had a kind of communal feel to it, lots of the same people hanging out in the common area watching TV and chatting (a little like a hostel). Despite the stress of what was going on, it was actually kind of fun. We got to meet some really interesting people, the area that the Holiday Inn Express is in is safe, and you can kill some time across the street at the mall if you happen to be there a couple of days extra after getting the visa.

I have to say that the worst part of the whole thing was Juarez airport. I understand that security is a huge priority but it was a bit ridiculous having immigration and customs going INTO the airport (flying OUT of Juarez), where they not only x-ray your bags but also have security thoroughly go through them. We were planning on eating something once we got to the gate to catch the plane but it turns out there was nothing there and we had to leave the terminal completely to get some food and then go back through immigration and the security checkpoint/2nd x-ray/metal detectors. So eat BEFORE you go to the airport and plan some extra time to go through security.

Looking back on the experience, I don't regret at all being really overly cautious and prepared, but I do regret being so stressed and worried.

Hi everyone!

I'm back in the US with my honey! We arrived yesterday through Pittsburgh airport without any problems.

The past two weeks have been really insane. After we got back to Merida from Juarez I only had one night with internet, but I spent that time packing so I really didn't have time until now to write about the interview. My apologies.

I have to preface this by saying that I think our experience was pretty exceptional, especially in comparison with other VJ'ers that I've been in contact with who are in similar situations.

Marcos and I were in line outside the gate of the consulate, and I left him there around 7 AM and walked back to the hotel. He knocked on the door of our room at 9:45 AM and said that he had been approved. The order in which everything happened was exactly the same as previous posters have said: they checked his papers, he went inside and stapled a number to his invitation letter, there was a screen where his number his passed, and a half an hour later, and he went to a window and they asked for the DS-156 and 156K and they gave him a paper to fill out that is NOT on the consulate website (I think they only give it on the consulate premises). He went to sit down again, then they called him up to take his fingerprints, then sat down again to wait for the interview. They called him for the interview and LITERALLY the only thing they took from him was a copy of our baby's mexican birth certificate. They did not ask to see the affidavit of support, photos, or anything else. Like I said, I think our case was exceptional. Marcos said that the CO was not friendly/nice but wasn't rude either.

She swore him in and then asked him:

What is your full name? What is your fiancee's full name?
Have you been married before? Do you have children with another person?
Was your fiancee married before? Does she have children with another person?
Have you entered the United States before? (Also asking if he had in the past some kind of US documents like a US passport)
Have you had problems with the law in Mexico? In the US?
How did you meet your fiancee?
How do you and your fiancee survive (financially)? This question was because the CO asked Marcos if either of us worked and he said no, so she wanted to know how we were getting by.

He said that most of the time with the CO was spent with her checking over the papers that I had sent as part of the I-129 packet. She said that they didn't have the results of the fingerprint check but if nothing came back on the fingerprint check, she was approving the visa.

I have to say that most of our time was spent with people at the Holiday Inn who were going through the waiver process. Marcos said that when he went to the medical appointment, he was on the bus with a couple that was going through the K-1 process, too, and he offered for them to meet up with us, and I could look over their papers to make sure they had everything, and explain to them what to expect. He said that the Mexican fiance was acting like he didn't want to do it (almost getting mad at the suggestion/offer) so Marcos didn't press him about it. As Marcos was leaving his interview, he saw that same guy again waiting for his interview and he was FREAKING out, asking Marcos what he was asked at what to expect (but it was a little too late at that point).

If anyone has an interview coming up and wants to ask any questions I'll do my best to answer them from our point of view.

Now, wedding plans!

Thanks, everyone, for the congratulations! I will be CERTAIN to write more about the experience as soon as I get the chance; we're incredibly busy right now traveling (we're in Mexico city now, and we'll be back in Merida tomorrow) and once we're in the US on April 30th I will sit down and write it all out (hopefully sooner if I get a chance to breathe!).

Congratulations to you cici!!!! kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif

And thanks to all who responded for the info on the blanket waiver thing. I was worried about that, but it's good to know that it's nothing I need to freak out about!

For those who have upcoming appointments: relax and take a deep breath, I know I was a nervous wreck and it worked out just fine (no use giving yourself an ulcer over it!).

We just got back from DHL, we now have the visa in hand! We kept checking online and finally at 5:40 we saw that it had been received at the DHL office, we called to find out which one, then hauled a%$ to get there before it closed.

The guy at DHL was a total jerk, he was like "you HAVE to cross at a border crossing, you can't fly", and I said "no" so he practically threw the packet at us and said "well, YOU KNOW what you're doing!!!". I proudly said "Yes, we do!" then turned around and walked out.

Ok, one question to those who have done this before. I THINK I read somewhere in this thread that people have on their visas under "annotations" the following: 212(G)(2)(A) BLANKET WAIVER. Does everyone have this, because it's on our visa. What does it mean?

2nd update from today:

Marcos went into the medical clinic at 8:20 this morning, and I was planning on it taking about 2.5 hours, as the guard had said, so I left the hotel and waited outside the clinic for Marcos to come out around 10:45. Finally he came around the corner around 12:00, not out the front door as I expected.

This is what happened:

When he entered the building they immediately took his passport and his invitation letter, they wrote K-1 on a little piece of paper and clipped it inside his passport, and clipped everything together, and they kept it. He waited about 5-10 minutes when they called his name and had him get on a bus with other people. They gave him back his passport and attached papers. It took about 30 minutes on the bus to get from the new clinic to the old clinic by the old consulate. They did this because they couldn't handle the number of people that they had to attend to. Walking into the old clinic, he handed over his passport and attached papers again. He was sitting for about 20 more minutes, and they called him into a room with 4 other men and 2 women, where they drew blood. He said the other people they took blood from were already there, they weren't on the bus with him. They said that the men were to go to the 2nd floor and the women stayed on the first floor. He went upstairs and waited with other guys like 10 or 20 minutes more. Then they told the guys that they needed to take their shirts off and they took chest X-Rays. They went into another room and took blood pressure readings, weight and height. They then called him into a private room and checked his vision (he had to read some letters while covering one eye, then the other), then they made him take ALL of his clothes off. A nurse entered, and she asked him:

Have you had problems with the police in Mexico? The US?
Do you have an illness which requires that you take pills every day?
How many tattoos do you have?
Do you drink?
Do you smoke?
Do you use drugs?
Have you ever had an STD?

They checked his heart and felt his abdomen, and that was it. She told him to get dressed, and if he needed/wanted any vaccines to go downstairs and they'll vaccinate him, and if not, he just needs to pay the fee and he can go. So he got dressed and went outside and the bus wasn't there, and he waited a bit longer and the bus came and took him back to the new medical clinic. The exam cost $142 US.

We got photos taken at the mall across the street for $65 pesos (for 2 photos) and paid the visa fee at Banamex $171 dollars U.S. (no, I'm not kidding). They make copies in the same place they take photos for 1 peso per page. I copied the Banamex receipt because we only get one, and it was so expensive that I think it's worth having a copy. We're going to take a taxi to Office Max (it's close by but not within walking distance) to buy an accordian folder. The taxi to and from Office Max is $100 pesos round-trip.

Just as a side note: just because you have a tattoo or pierced ears doesn't mean they'll automatically have you see a psychologist. Marcos has a tattoo (it's a tasteful one, not huge or anything) and both his ears are pierced, and he didn't have to take a drug test or see a psychologist. That being said, he did talk to a guy who had quite a number of tattoos and while Marcos was there, the guy was having his second medical exam (guess they didn't believe his original drug test results). Marcos said he didn't look really crazy or anything but his arms and his back were tattooed so maybe that was a red flag, but who knows.

Ok, we got our invitation letter printed out. We took Marcos's passport and the CDJ case number written on a little piece of paper and it was extremely easy and painless. We were in the line at 6:45 AM and the information window opened at 7:30. When we started waiting there were exactly 20 people in front of us but some of them were couples and/or families. We got the letter at 8:00 AM. I stood in the line with Marcos and we went to the window together, but I'm not sure if the guard who let us pass was really paying attention, so don't be surprised if they only let the Mexican fiance through. We took the letter and his passport to the medical clinic next door and the guard would only let Marcos in (only the person who is doing the medical exam is allowed in). Marcos went in at 8:20 and the guard estimates that the wait is about 2.5 hours.

One thing: we asked a guard at the consulate whether we would be allowed in with a 3 ring binder (that's where all our papers are) and he said no, binders with metal are not allowed in, it has to be plastic (like an accordian folder). As we were leaving another guard with a megaphone announced basically the same thing. Cell phones (even if you turn them off) are NOT allowed. Apparently there are lockers across the street where you can put them but one lady had to throw hers away (we saw this) because the person who mans the lockers was not there to give her a locker. So leave cell phones in the hotel. You are also not allowed to take cigarettes into the consulate. I guess lighters and/or matches are kind of a given but cigs can't exactly light themselves. Oh well, rules are rules I suppose.

I HIGHLY recommend getting to the consulate around 6:45 or so if you need to print the letter out, because by the time 7:15 rolled around the line was really long. When we arrived there was hardly anyone waiting in either the line for information or to go into the consulate.

I'll write more later, once Marcos gets back from his medical exam. good.gif

Hi Guys! We're in Juarez now, at the Holiday Inn Express Las Misiones. It's pretty nice! There's a Denny's very close by where we went to eat and now we're just settling in.

Just a word of warning to those who are flying into Juarez (I know not every situation is like ours, but just so you know). If you are planning on accompanying your significant other to Juarez make sure you have your American passport AND Mexican tourist visa on you!!! My mom accidentally left her passport in Cancun (along with her FMT tourist document) and I called the airline to make sure she could travel with just her license and they said NO PROBLEM. We went through mexico city airport and merida airport with no issues whatsoever. Coming into Juarez (on a national flight, WITHIN MEXICO, mind you) they had (surprise!) an immigration checkpoint where they asked to see our documents. My mom pulled out her license and they were very much against even letting her leave the airport, but we talked them into it. So please, make sure you have on hand your passport and your valid mexican visa even if you are only traveling within mexico. We're having her passport and tourist document overnighted so we don't have a problem leaving juarez (they warned us that she will not be permitted to board a plane without them).

BEST OF LUCK to you and your fiance limejello. We will be praying for you, so that everything goes well. You're one step closer. good.gif GOOD LUCK!!!

Thanks so much, epi. I can't express how much I appreciate everyone's support. This has been a long process and it would've been a lot more nerve-wracking without the support of fellow VJ'ers. Please keep us in your prayers, we are so close! I actually feel pretty relaxed right now, like I've done everything I can possibly do to prepare for this, now my fiance and I are just going over the basics like dates, etc. just to reinforce everything. Tomorrow we're headed to the consulate to print out the letter, do the medical exam, and pay for the interview. Hay que dormir tambien! blink.gif

By the way, checked out the gym here at the hotel, they've got an elliptical trainer, 2 treadmills, a stationary bike, weight balls, clean towels and water dispenser, and 2 flat screen TV's mounted on the walls. I've passed by it a couple of times and haven't seen anyone using it yet. That might be how I kill some time waiting for Marcos to come out of the interview! good.gif

This is a Juarez-specific question, and I just want to confirm: all documents that are in Spanish DO NOT need to be translated into English FOR THE K-1 INTERVIEW in Juarez, is this correct??? I know in other consulates it is required, and it will be required for AOS, but at this specific stage, I haven't read anywhere where documents in Spanish need to be translated into English. On the specific instructions on the Juarez consulate website, it says that only NON-ENGLISH AND NON-SPANISH documents need to be translated.

I've posted bits of info about our experience last week so this post isn't going to be really long. I can't say much more than cici did in her post about the overall time line and procedures at the consulate. My fiance actually printed out her post to study while she was in Juarez. I'll give a little info about the questions that were asked at the interview.

1. Where did we meet.
2. How long have we been dating.
3. What state would she be living in in the USA. She didn't have to give the full address but I've read that they can ask and you should have your fiances memorize it!!!!
4. Questions about our son. Where was he born etc
5. Has she ever been to the USA. Not even illegally?
6. What was she going to do in the USA? She wrote work on the DS-156 and she had an offer of employment letter.

For proof of relationship, they didn't ask to see anything but pictures. That still seems crazy to me given this day and age of digital pictures and powerful computers. It's not that hard to doctor photos. She also looked at our son's birth certificate so maybe that was considered as proof of relationship too.

For those of you who are getting nervous about your upcoming trips, post some specific questions and I'll give you an answer(if I know the answer of course). Be prepared that things are expensive in the hotels and stores/restaurants close to the consulate. There isn't any sort of Wal-Mart close either. If you have extra room in your bags, pack some snacks and water unless money isn't an issue for you. Don't be so nervous about the violence. The locals told her that things have changed dramatically in the last month since the arrival of more military. Men should be prepared to be stopped at random by military and asked for ID and being questioned.

Good Luck to all!

One other thing!

After several times of referring to me as her fiance, the CO suddenly referred to me as her husband and my fiance said: "Don't you mean my fiance". She said the CO's reactions was sort of weird about that and my fiance really thinks she was trying to catch her calling me her husband. We have been living together for over 2 years so perhaps the CO thought we were already married. Drill it into your fiance's head that they need to refer to you as their fiance. I know in Mexican culture, it's common for people to refer to their significant other as husband/wife even when it's not legally the case.

Oh MY! The OC did the same thing to me too!!! Twice!! And he looked at me funny too (Very funny)!!!

I'm getting a "Constancia de negatividad" (letter from Registro Civil saying that there is no record of marriage) from Merida AND my fiance's home town JUST IN CASE this happens and it becomes an issue. Depending on how long it takes to get one from Cancun (and if we have enough time), we're getting one from there too, to cover all the places we have lived. I really hope this doesn't present a problem for us, my fiance has been introducing me as his "esposa" for ages, and my mom as "suegra". Now he says "prometida" and "futura suegra" but who knows, in a moment of nervousness he might slip up.

If you're staying at the Holiday Inn Express, rebook your room online versus extending it at the front desk. We had to extend our stay because of the random Wednesday closing issue and the front desk quoted us $80 USD per night. Expedia gave me a rate of $52 per night. While it's not a huge difference, 9 days is a long time...

Davys is at the Consulate now...he's been there for 6 and a half hours...waiting and not knowing what's happening is driving me crazy!

I know I'll be in the same boat in a week and a day, and I still don't know how I'm going to feel during the time he's in the embassy. Right now I'm trying not to psych myself out and just remain as calm as possible (plus, the more nervous I am, the more nervous he's going to be!). Well, I took the leap and booked the flights and part of the hotel stay today, we're leaving Merida on Saturday, staying one night in Mexico City, then heading to Juarez on Sunday. We're going with AVIACSA airlines, which has semi-decent prices and gets a lot better reviews than Viva Aerobus (which, based on everything I've heard, I wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole). We'll be at the Holiday Inn Express. I don't know, now that we've actually planned it, the real nervousness is beginning to set in! girlwerewolf2xn.gif I think I might have to take advantage of that happy hour at the Holiday Inn...

Good luck to you!! We go to Juarez this week as well. The nerves are starting to kick in for us as well!! I'll be sure to post the experience once we return. I don't think we allowed for enough time. I booked our flights before they started using DHL so we are scheduled to fly out the morning after the interview, but I bet we have to change the flights. There goes another $300 down the drain. She is going to ask if there is any way she can leave the consulate with her visa in hand, but I doubt they allow that. You never know unless you ask right???

I know we probably went a little overboard but we're arriving in Juarez sunday night, *hopefully* getting the letter printed and doing the medical on Monday, then interviewing on Tuesday. I was worried about the consulate closing at random which is why we planned extra time, plus we know it's closed at least on Friday because it's the last Friday of the month (then of course Saturday and Sunday). We've planned for 9 COMPLETE days in Juarez, including the weekend and the Friday that it's closed. So that's 6 days just in case of hiccups. We haven't booked the entire stay at the hotel, though, just through Wednesday. With AVIACSA it's 600 pesos to change the flights (per flight, per person), which is still cheaper than booking the whole 9 days in the hotel. I'd rather plan for longer and change the flights because it took less time than vice versa.

Viva: I don't think it'll hurt anything to ask if you can do it the same day, but just be prepared for them to say no. wacko.gif

Best of luck to you, too!

I just wanted to get some input on this: I'm putting together our "evidence of an ongoing relationship", and I have photos of myself with my fiance and our son, but in one of the photos we're at Carnaval and he's holding a can of beer (my fiance, not our son). It's a cute picture of the 3 of us but I don't want it to possibly be construed as him being a raging alcoholic. Would it be better if I just leave that one out?

I would leave it out considering the fact that you have other pictures that prove your relationship exists. In the end it may not matter at all, but I would leave it out that way I wouldn't have to worry about it.

Thanks for the input, I'm going to go ahead and take it out of the album. We do have a lot of pictures, and I'd rather not have to think about it. Now I just have to worry about the CO looking a the pics and noticing that I gained a ton of weight during pregnancy, and saying to my fiance "dude...!". I guess it shows the time lapse well. I started out skinny then got big (*cringe*), and now I've lost a good bit of that pregnancy weight. Not to mention my hair has changed (long, short, long, blonde, reddish, blonde again, brown, blonde highlights). Funny thing is, my fiance looks EXACTLY the same in his pics from the beginning of our relationship as he does now!

Hi everyone. It has been a minute since I posted, so I thought I'd give an update. Everything is going smoothly, actually even better than I expected. Diana doesn't speak English fluently yet and she already found a job! She started last week full time and she takes an ESL class 2 nights out of the week. We are days away from filing AOS and we ended up getting married on Valentine's Day (I will post pictures later, we had a professional photographer come out and snap some pictures but there is a $200 deposit to go and select which pictures we want so we have been putting it off). Anyways, I translated her birth certificate, as seen below. I'm assuming each birth certificate is different for each Mexican state but if you are from Guerrero and want me to send you the word document of the translated birth certificate that I used, just shoot me a message. I was just looking at it and for the last sentence I will probably put "I hereby certify that...." instead of ending the document with a comma followed by "I certify". I was bored and so I tried to make the translation look similar to the original. wink.gif
I still have to run up to Kinkos and make copies of her BC, passport, NOA 2, etcetera. And as a matter of fact, I am so bored that I am considering making an extra color copy of the BC so I can cut out the border and the stamps and glue them onto my translation so it really looks authentic. rofl.gif I think I might do that right now; I will be back in an hour or so to post the results!

When I got my birth certificate translated into Spanish in Cancun (at $250 pesos per page) the translator went all-out, even copying and cutting out the Pennsylvania state seal and the signature on the BC to paste on to the translation. It was a work of art! I still can't figure out why he changed the spelling to "Pensilvania" and didn't change the spelling of "Pittsburgh" (how could it phonetically be translated? Pitsboorg, as it is most frequently pronounced, I guess).

That is funny. I didn't know they they did it like that. Here is mine, if I put some more time into it, I am sure I could get it much closer to perfection:

Now THAT looks great!

Hi everyone,

I posted a new topic in the embassy forum asking for help on the I-134 and I got one answer but I was hoping that someone in this thread with specific experience with Mexico might be able to help a bit more.

I'm filling out the affidavit of support for my fiance now and there are a couple of things I'm not sure about. For those of you who were BELOW the poverty line as primary sponsors and didn't file tax returns, did you just write a letter saying why you didn't file tax returns or did you also have to provide "evidence" of your income? As I said in the other thread, I was working in Mexico and it would be really difficult, if not impossible, for me to get letters or any other proof of how much I made. I read in another thread that if you put "0" down on any of the blanks on the form that ask for income/assets, you are not required to PROVE anything.

The other thing is that I've been living in Mexico with my fiance and I'm not sure whether to put my permanent U.S. address on the form or my Mexico address. Someone told me to put my permanent U.S. address, which is not a problem, I just want to be certain that I don't mess anything up by doing this (since I already said that I live with my fiance). Opinions?

I used a sponsor but I did have a tax return. I would write a brief note just saying that you didn't file. I THINK that even if you work in Mexico aren't you supposed to file a tax return? I am not sure about that. But they are going to look at your sponsor for financial support. I think with the sponsor you will be fine! They are not the IRS and I don't think it is their job to find out why you didn't file! good luck!

Hi, thanks for the reply! I didn't file because I didn't make enough to file (I made less than the $8,950 requirement). I liked your comment about them not being the IRS, but for us super-paranoid it's all one huge scary big brother-esque system (gee, I hope nobody from the IRS or USCIS is reading this! blink.gif )

Hi everyone! Thanks for all your words of encouragement. smile.gif Sorry I haven't been able to give an update all day. I've been over at our new house cleaning to keep my mind off of the interview. Aldo got the visa!! dancin5hr.gif He said it was so simple. He got to the embassy this morning at 7 am. They checked to make sure he had all the documents he needed, and then they sent him back to his hotel room because he had brought his cell phone with him. headbonk.gif So he came back and they gave him a fast pass to go right inside. He said he was really nervous because the guy interviewing in front of him received a ten year ban. But he said the CO just asked him where we met, where I was born, the year I was born, the names of my parents and if he had met my family. The only documents he even wanted to see were my financial documents. And then he just said congratulations and sent him on his way! That was the smooth part, however we hit a snag after that. ohmy.gif The CO officer gave him a case number for DHL and told him his passport with the visa should be ready by about 3 pm (he was finished with the interview by noon). He kept calling and checking the online status, and told the people at DHL that he needed his passport back today because his flight was scheduled to leave tomorrow morning at 6 am. Well, their office closed at 6 pm and his passport wasn't ready, so he didn't get it. mad.gif He called to try and change his flight to go back on Friday, but they were all sold out so he is stuck in Juarez until Saturday. It's costing about an extra $300 for him to stay, with the cost to change the flight and the two extra nights in the hotel. I guess if SOMETHING had to go wrong, I'm glad it was with that and not with the interview! Everything can't always go perfect and really, up until now, we have had a breeze of a journey. I am SO incredibly relieved to have this over!! I wish he was coming up here right now, but we have to wait another month. Oh well, it's all worth it. biggrin.gif So there you go! Hopefully all of you will have a smooth ride as well! Best of luck to everyone!!

WOOHOO! I called the NVC today just to check on the status of our case with them and get the case number. Our NOA2 was dated 19 Feb so I figured that possibly it was still there, but NO! The operator told me that the case has already come and gone to Juarez, it left on 25 Feb! I got the case number, so I'm sure I can contact Juarez to see where we are. Any suggestions as to how much time I should wait to see when they've sent packet 3 out?

crying.gif We got our NOA2 Jan 28 and it arrived at NVC on the 30th then left and arrived on the Feb 02 at Juarez and we are still waiting for our package to be sent to us (We only want the package to be sent so we can go to Juarez we won't wait for it to arrive) The juarez phone people said it could take up tp 6 month in the worst cases but it mignt leave in about 4 more weeks.... I am hoping that that is not ture 'cuase i have heard that some ppl get thier package SENT in one months time.

Oh no! unsure.gif Wow, that's a long time, I can't IMAGINE waiting up to 6 months MORE! I'm going to give them a call when I'm home next week to see if they've at least received it. Do you call once a week or once every couple of days to check to see if they've sent the package?

I call them once a week (can't wait see my phone bill, lol).... hopefully it won't be thatlong til we get the package sent... Maybe the guy who I talk to was giving me the worth case ?? Anyways I have looked thru timeless from ppl on VJ and most ppl get there'si in a month and a half to two months (I am really hoping that's the case)

So you're going to wait until you receive it in the mail or just until it's sent? With a "sent from NVC" date of Feb 25th, I'm wondering if we can expect an interview around mid-April or so, assuming we don't wait for the letter, just for it to be sent out.

until It's "sent" from Juarez....

NVC forwards it to Juarez then they have "send " the package... you can't go to the interveiw unless Juarez has "sent" package 3 themself to you because they have to consider you coming in for an interview or someting like that...sometimes the package never arrives to your mail and that's why we call every week, so that way as soon as juarez tells me they have mailed it we will be on our way there!!

Note: it doesn't matter that NVC sends the package to Juarez you have to wait until Juarez mails the Package 3 to you crying.gif but you Don't have to wait until you get the hard copy in the mail...

I hope they ship your letter out soon! I imagine you should expect it to be sent any time now (although the timeline for sending it out is all over the place), just based on the average time that it's taking, as you mentioned earlier! smile.gif

Thinking now about how to get everything together... what are your recommendations on how to put all of our forms and documents and evidence, etc. together? Would it be ok to go with a 3-ring binder/sheet protectors? I know I'm being picky here but I'm the organized one, and I want it to be easy for my fiancee to sort through everything for his interview. Photos in a baggie or would it be ok for me to attach them to pieces of paper with captions?

Any tips or tricks for improving memory (apart from drills)? I have mentioned before, my fiancee has the worst memory on the planet (I have to laugh...My dad goes from being "John" to "Tom"). Strangely enough, he can remember a face that he'd seen 2 years ago on a bus for 10 seconds but he can't remember what year I was born.

4. Does anyone have recommendations, besides a paloma, on what I can take to calm my nerves? yes.gif I find myself getting so worked up trying to figure out exactly what needs to be done. She won't be going for the interview until the first or second week of April but I find myself hitting the overload point almost daily when I'm thinking about this stuff. My worst fear, and I'm sure for most others, is that the time and money and risk/danger of Juarez could all be for nothing.

This is my problem as well (you've asked some good questions by the way, and as someone whose fiancee will be interviewing in the first couple of weeks of April, I'm interested any input, too.) Sometimes I get to the "overload" point when I can't stop thinking about it. My fiancee and I have a genuine relationship, and we've been living together since May 2007 but I swear to you he has the WORST memory ever when it comes to dates. I was reading some of the consulate reviews of Juarez and someone was asked what her fiancee's ex wife's name was. I know that maybe it's ok to ask this but I've been divorced since 2005 and I RARELY ever talk about my ex husband, and I have said his name maybe 2 or 3 times since we've been together. Now I'm finding myself having to drill my fiancee on my ex's name and when we divorced and why we divorced, when this is not pertinent information in my current relationship. It bugs me. Maybe it's unnecessary but I'm worried that if he doesn't know this stuff it might lead to a whole new line of questioning from the CO on stuff he knows even less about. Argh.

I posted the following in a different forum but I'm hoping somebody in here can help me:

I really hope someone with experience can help me with this. The consulate's website does not mention anything about the I-134 in its fiance visa section. Instead, this is the information that they give. http://ciudadjuarez....wwwfof167k2.pdf
Does someone have experience with this? Should we do the I-134 or simply follow the instructions of the above information. I'm really lost as to what to do. We need a co-sponsor if we are doing the I-134 because I have been living here in Mexico with her and our family for almost three years so I don't have proof of any income for these last three years. I'm just confused because the information directly from the website doesn't mention anything about the I-134. I'm starting to see that things seem to be a lot different for Mexico and that the general rules and information that apply to the rest of the world don't seem to apply here. When I joined this forum, there was a forum dedicated solely to Mexico and now there isn't. If I follow the above document from the consulate's website, we will most likely follow the directions that say to prove that she will have employment in the USA. We are planning on her working in my mother's office anyway. Does anyone have first hand experience in doing this? Does anyone have first hand experience using the I-134 in Ciudad Juarez to satisfy the public charge information.

If I do an I-134 form, it will be my aunt doing the sponsoring but I have a specific question about that. Number 3 on the affidavit? Whose name goes there, mine or my fiance's? If it's my name on line three, then I assume my fiance's name will be under the spouse heading and then her daughter as well. If it's her name on line three then I don't really understand why they ask for spouse. Please help me!!! Someone with experience dealing with Mexican process.

tglea, I'm pretty much in the same exact boat you're in as far as this goes. I've been here in Mexico for almost 3 years now (the last 2 with my fiancee, and our son together who will be a year old on Feb 28th). I worked in timeshare for a bit but made very little money, definitely not enough to declare earning anything. I'm getting my mom to do an I-134 as my co-sponsor, and I'm going to try to get another relative to be a 2nd co-sponsor.

I told her that VJ saved my life because INS forms and directions are vague at best and sometimes they leave things out that you do need, and ask for things that later you don't need. My fiancee is not going to get a job offer letter from the U.S.. I think the 2 I-134 co-sponsors will be more than enough.

I was just talking to my mom about this... She can get a letter from her job saying how much she makes, and her bank account is good for the last year, but she said that if they look at her tax returns they're going to see that the income was low for the last 3 years. So I think we're going to try to get a 2nd co-sponsor, just to be on the safe side.

Maybe your right, vivamex. I don't want to screw things up by changing my address this far into the process.

Since I didn't receive the NOA1 and the mail here is notoriously unreliable, I can pretty much guarantee that I won't get the NOA2 OR the NVC letter. If that is the case, can I go to the Juarez embassy with only the NVC case number (no letter at all) if I call them and confirm that they HAVE sent the invitation letter out?

Thank you cici that was really helpful! We're planning on going to the SSP in Merida and Cancun to get the letters, along with a letter from Marcos' tiny little pueblo where he lived for most of his life. I've been living with him in Mexico (save for a few short trips to the U.S.) since 2007 and we have a baby together who was born here (and he does have his consular report of birth abroad certificate, along with american AND mexican passports). We've got a TON of photos of us together (and with our son), I have one boarding pass (I never thought to save my other ones. dangit!), and itinerary from a trip we took to the riviera maya with my mom, and a few other things. I'm not TOO concerned about evidence, but I am more concerned about the affidavit of support.

For the last year I only worked a couple of months and I really haven't made any money since moving to Mexico. I've been mainly supported by some very generous aunts and uncles back in the US and, of course, my mom and my fiancee. So since I'm his fiancee, I know I'm going to have to do an affidavit of support, and my mom is going to do one as well. The only problem is, my mom didn't make very much money until the middle of last year, so her income on her tax returns for last year and this year are going to be low, but squeaking by over the poverty line (plus assets of a home). I know that on the I-134 it asks for a bank letter, job letter, and tax returns. She got a fairly large settlement last year (but used a lot of it for bills and to fix the house) so that'll make the bank letter ok, and since her current income is higher than last year, that'll be ok, too, but the tax returns are what's bothering me. I'm just hoping that they take more into consideration the bank and job letters than the tax returns.

I'm also wondering if it would be worth our while to get bloodwork done here in Merida to make sure that my fiancee doesn't have any issues before we make the trip to juarez. When he was in the prepa he came down hepatitis A, which I've read is quite common, even in the U.S. Better safe than sorry, and if it's something that *might* effect a medical exam, it would be better to have a letter from a doc here saying that it's under control. Ugh, maybe I'm thinking/worrying too much.

My mom is coming down and we are driving from Merida to Ciudad Juarez sometime in mid-April (4-day drive)! I am a little worried about the crime and everything, but my fiancee and his friend are going to be with us.

Because it's going to take so long to get there I want to make sure we have EVERYTHING in order before we go. I'd rather have too many papers than not enough, and I think it would be horrible to go all the way there only to discover that you've left something out. We never did receive the NOA1 here in Merida, and I only knew about the NOA2 because of an email update I received. I'm thinking about changing my address with the NVC to my mom's address so that any correspondence will actually be received. Opinions?
