K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNeed help regarding EVAF DS-156

Thanks but this is the site that doesnt open for me. What time should I go on so it works? Also I have internet explorer does it work on that or only on fire net thing?

Its the only site there is, the DOS site, what is it saying? You have to meet the adobe reader and browser standards, is your software pretty recent? I was able to do it just now. Can you get to another computer?

P.S. Is the formatting of the page coming out right once you hit the continue button?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNeed help regarding EVAF DS-156

Hello,

I am new here and I need help regarding the EVAF DS-156. My Fiance had his interview and everything was going great until the DS-156 form barcode came up. When my fiance filled it and print it the barcode doesn't come up. The interviewer said we need to go to EVAF DS-156 and fill and print it and send it to the courior. After the courior receive's it we have to wait for 90 days for the process to take place. Can anyone please help my fiance and I find a working EVAF DS-156 link.

Thanks!!!

This is the link: https://evisaforms.state.gov/ds156.asp

It works but it seems to be random, try at times of the day when there's not so much internet traffic. You can test it out just by hitting the continue button and see if the it generates the barcode. It works for me. Good luck.

Last time I posted something people responded quickly. I didn't want to offend anyone.

I just want an idea of how long the wait time will be.

Last time was a much easier question. Theres no answer to this one. Do a search on here about AP, people from MENA countries and see what you find. Some of them are scarier then you want to hear about.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDid not cancel last K-1

Thank you... are there any good examples of a waiver letter?

There may be some posts in the IMBRA section. There's no set format or anything, mostly just like a letter in your own words explaining things like who you filed for before and when, and why it didn't work out and all, also why they should let you file before the 2 years and all that. Send a copy of your previous NOA2 with it.

I think there's not much to it.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDid not cancel last K-1

I had an approved K-1 in the past and it didn't work out after it was approved. We didn't cancel the K1. We basically let it expire. Is there going to be a problem when applying for another K1?

No it was approved, so to USCIS the case was completed. If your new K1 filing is within 2 years of the last filing you have to send in a request for a waiver on IMBRA filing limitations, basically a signed and dated document explaning why you should be allowed to file again within the 2 years and any supporting documentation.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedurespetition approval will expire in october

Our K1 petition was approved in June and said it expired in the middle of October. We are waiting for our packet 4 and our appointment. Do you we have to have to get an extension if the appointment is past the expiry date on our petition approval? How would we get the extension? Thanks

As long as the Embassy knows you have a case with them it will be extended automatically.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresno interview date from the embassy

hi

i hav one more question they have mentioned that medical appointment is on 10th october 2011.what does it mean?

They made an appointment for you with the doctor. The results of the medical are needed at your interview. I have no idea how it works there, was there a doctor listed on your packet 3 instructions or on the embassy web site. Well I'm sure somebody else can tell you where the medical is done. Good luck.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresA question that may seem strange...

VJ has been around for a lot longer than four years... This is proof that lawyers are clueless

True but USCIS and lawyers were around way before the web and all you would have had is the G-325A and I-129F instructions which would have told you to fill out the I-134.

P.S. Oops I should have said the INS not USCIS was around before the web.

ummm.. no, my first i-129f was in 2004... was not standard even then

Well I don't know some websites, lawyers etc were saying it cause I got the info way back when from the web. Lawyers told you to do it before the existence of VJ. Ok whatever, but anyway they get approved either way.

A while ago, like I know 4 years ago, it was standard to include the I-134 with the I-129F.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan i change jobs as the benificary while my K1 is being processed

Hi there, just a quick question. We are into the 3rd month of waiting for USCIS approval and I would like to know if I change my job if it would have any adverse affects on the visa processing, either from the USCIS or the embassy. Do I need to fill out change of address paperwork. I only ask as it would be different from the original Biographic info I supplied when we started this whole process.

Thanks

Ray

No you are fine as the beneficiary, especially at USCIS stage, as its all about the petitioner.

You will get a chance to mention your new job on the DS Forms that you will fill out at the embassy stage.

Good luck.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow soon can I fill-up DS-156?

Hello Vjers,

I am trying to collect all the forms/requirements I needed before paying visa fee, getting medical & scheduling interview appointment and so on [since I am currently overseas & will be home on October ].... Part of these are filing out DS forms, is it okay to fill it out online at this point in time? Does the barcode expires?

Appreciate your insights & experiences. Thanks!

You are fine, go ahead with filling out the forms and collecting all the documents required. You didn't mention birth and divorce certificates, police reports from places you lived for more than 6 months since age 16, passport photos, the I-134 from your USC fiance so just mentioning them in case. Good luck.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresG-325 question

Ok, since we are sending it off in the same month that he will be returning to Australia, here is what I did, let me know if this looks right.

{{Australian Address}} From 9/2011 to present
{{American address}} From 6/2011 to 9/2011
{{American address 2}} From 9/2010 to 6/2011

Etc.

How is this? And thank you, I will use a separate sheet for the job explanation :)

That looks good. Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresG-325 question

Just a quick question about the G-325, Ben (the beneficiary) is currently living in the US with me and will be at the time we send the packet off, but in less than two weeks he will be going back to Australia, should we put his current address on the form as his australian one or the one where he is living now in America?

Also, he had a couple of temp jobs in australia before he came to America, one of them was working as a drink server at an annual event (the Clipsal 500) which he did for 3 years. But since it wasn't a permanent job would they want that listed on this form as well? Should we include an extra sheet explaining about that job? It was while he was in college, 2008-2010.

Thank you

No don't list his address in the USA, the address should be where the embassy would be sending him the packet and usually to interview at an embassy you should be a resident in that country.

They don't really care whether the job was temporary. He's the beneficiary and it doesn't matter what kind of financial benefit, if any, he got from the job.

He is not going to be in the US for long, right? He has to leave right? I wouldn't list him as being the the US cause by the time they see that he won't be in the US and has to interview in Australia.

P.S. I mean you can list his residence in the US, but it shouldn't be his permanent address.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresIntent to marry within 90 day form

Supposedly there is a form that we are supposed to bring to the interview that says we intend to marry within 90 days. Where is this form? Is it the page that's part of the DS-156 that we sign or is it a separate form?

Its not an existing form, you write it yourself. Didn't you do one for USCIS? Its the same wording only you can do a new one with new dates. Its not necessarily needed but you never know. An example of it is in the k1 guides.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFiance (e) mailing address

Hello,

just wondering if the address that is indicated in form I-129 for fiance(e) used by embassies as a mailing address where they send package 3,4? Can this mailing address be different from the address of fiance(e) place of residence? Can this address be changed after I-129 was already submitted by petitioner?

Thanks a lot for the answers.

I can't tell you exactly which address is used by the embassy for sure but... You fill out the DS Forms for the embassy, after your NOA2, in which you have to put down the beneficiaries address and where she will be living in the US. So yes the beneficiary's info can change and you'll have plenty of chance to update the information on the DS Forms. Good luck.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresEvidence of relationship

Hello,

I have just sent off my package three and in readiness for getting an interview (hopefully soon!) I am looking into compiling the evidence...I have passport stamps of being together in the same place, two previous employers wrote letters confirming our relationship (we met whilst working together)and I have film dated photographs. What else is good? We have a million cards, letters and emails but I don't know if they accept that? I have so many keep sakes and mementos but I think they want very specific things.

Does anyone have and advise please of the things that they like and don't?

Many thanks,

Embassies are diffent than USCIS, they want to see your overall relationship even if the letters pictures are old. They want to know about how much you know about each other. You don't need a million cards and emails etc just a choice few which span the dates of your relationship. The second thing thats extremely important is the I-134 Affidavit of support and supporting documentation. Some people say its important to have fresh letters of intent but I guess that depends on your embassy. Its probably good idea also not to talk about sending money between each other, cause fraud is another thing they are wary of.

It really depends on your case, for instance if your case is already beyond a doubt they may just ask you a couple questions and then approve you and you won't even get a chance to present all those other things. Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresIs our case lost?!?

Every time I call my call is escalated to the second tier of service which sometimes access the computer logs and sometimes they are jerks. The last person told me that they have not had any documentation that our case has even been touched since April when we got our NOA1. He also told me not to wait a whole month but to only wait 2 weeks because my case should have been adjudicated by now. The man was very intrigued and seemed shocked that my case was still 'just sitting there'.

So I'm confused is your case in the system or not. I guess from the above that it is in the system. I believe you're case is eligible to be expedited at the end of September as 5 months is the stated average and you will be 6 months at the end of September. Either that or they are doing extra name checks on you.

P.S. If they don't let you know at the end of September then you need to contact a congressman and ask them to find out what is going on.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresIs our case lost?!?

I'm starting to get very frustrated that our case does not show up on the USCIS case status website and every time I call the service center they don't seem to have any information and nobody understands why our case isn't showing up online. The service center informed us in April when we filed that it should only take a few weeks and our case would be online, but here we are well into September and we haven't heard anything. I've noticed that people who filed their K-1's a month after us have already received an NOA2 but we haven't.

I'm starting to wonder if our case has been lost or if having a lawyer makes something look bad? Either way we had planned a wedding for November which we have now canceled due to the slow processing times and I am 2.5 months pregnant. Does anyone have any advice for what we should do next?

2 weeks ago when I called I was transferred to a higher level of customer service and the nice man submitted a work order to have our information put online and gave me a ticket number but apparently that didn't do anything either. :(

Thanks for your time.

Did you ask the higher level (second tier officer) if your case has been accepted into the system and is being processed? It probably has but the 2nd tier people can get computer access and give you the same case status that you should have been able to see online. About your case status not showing up, for some people it just doesn't show up, somebody or something probably screwed up from the beginning.

I would call again and ask for a second tier person and ask him to check the status of your case in the system. Knowing that is important. Good luck.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCase received by embassy?

I got the NVC letter about a week ago, and I wanted to know what number I can call to know if the US embassy in London has received our case or not. I looked on the website but I could only find UK numbers.

Secondly, can my fiance schedule his medical now, before he gets the letter to get a head start?

And for those of you who have already got your K1 visa, how long did it take you from when the embassy received your case, to when the foreign fiance entered the U.S? I'm really hoping we have Christmas together, but I don't want to get excited about it just yet. What do you think the chances of that are?

You can call DOS to find out about your case at the embassy and if it made it to the embassy. Here's a link on how to get thru to an operator:
http://www.visajourn...he-nvc-and-dos/

As was already posted, you can schedule your medical if you know your NVC case number. Good luck.

Yes I know this situation and it's my situation.the one who wrote above is my friend.I asked her about my hubby put that we are married by proxy in the application form applying k1 visa and I keep asking him if it's good idea he said he know what he's doing and just trust him but I think its not but I don't wanna argue with him so my friend tell me just follow him atleast u did my part and I said whatever it takes wrong for us that's his fault not mine.hayy I dnt knw wat to do...

I don't understand, why ask for trouble? K1 is for a fiance that wants to marry when they get to the US. You don't even want to give them the thought that you might be married. Even though proxy marriages are mostly not recognized as marriages, someone, either at USCIS or the embassy, if it gets there, is going to question this. Certain embassies might deny you outright. If you want to be married, get married for real and file CR1. Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat case number should i write on the instructions list from embassy???

Hello everyone! I read the instructions i got from US embassy in my country and on the back it is a declaration i have to complete and it say this: case number, signature, name and current adress. Now my question is what case number i have to write there? :bonk: Thanks for the help

HELP!

Yes like Tim/Mav said it is the same as the NVC number and I imagine you would have got this number in the email or letter from the embassy which had the instructions. The first 3 letters of it probably could stand for an abbreviation for your embassy/consulate.

In my case they also send the case number on the subject line of the emails from the embassy.

Good luck with your interview.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion 18

The instructions state that you must have met within the last two years prior to the filing. Any meeting within this time period is what they want evidence of and what is described in short in this question. If you first met more than two years prior, they don't care about that and dont' want you to describe that.

Thats more about how you first met for IMBRA and all that like whether you met online or marriage broker etc. Kinda makes no sense to me, you only meet each other once, the rest are planned. All your evidence and everything is about meeting within the two years so thats covered throughout.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion 18

^ 2007 isn't in the last two years though (though I suppose it was when you applied)

We met for the first time in 2008, then in 2009 and then in 2010 he moved to my country and we lived together for 6 months. So if I do the math, I should explain the 2009 get together?

Question 18 does not ask you to state how you met in last 2 years.

It asks you to write about how you met for the first time ever.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCalling card fiasco!!!

I've always called my fiance with a calling card. I called the calling card company today and they told me I could not get records, if I wanted them I would have to contact an attorney. I immediately set up an international calling plan with my cell phone company (they provide records online), but I have no way to prove past calls from calling card. I have the calling card and proof that I used it on my cell records, but it does not show who the calls were actually made to. My petition is at NVC now, how long will it take until the interview? How many of months of phone records should be provided at the interview? Will the calling card and proof of use on phone records count for anything??? I'm so stressed!!!

Do you have anything else to show ongoing relationship? I don't really understand, you must have know you couldn't get any call logs from this calling card company when you were working on the I-129F petition. There are other cards that do provide call logs like some of the cards from Zaptel.com

Don't really know what to tell you, I guess provide them a combination of what evidence you got and explain why you failed getting the call logs. Good luck.

The DS-230 has a Part 1 and Part 2. Most consulates only require part 1 but some ask for part 2 also. So it should say in you letter.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNeed Help!! pls..

Thank you so much for your reply! What would be a good proof we've met in the last 2 years? Old emails or pictures with dates on the back of it hmm?

Thanks for your honesty. If my brother in laws, brother makes 85,000 a year will that be a good enough co sponsor, or will it be better to find another as well?

You need to prove that you two have met within 2 years of filing. If you two are planning to meet in Spain then don't forget you need evidence to prove you were both in Spain at the same time. If she has an EU passport remember that within the EU, EU passports don't get stamped and a US passport only gets stamped at your first point of entry in the EU so even your passport stamps may not get stamped in Spain. So you will need other receipts and things to show you were both in the same place. Even if you could get both your name on a hotel booking and/or receipt. Get pictures of both of you together with dates on them.

You don't really need to provide a lot of evidence of relationship for the USCIS petition. Also for the USCIS don't provide pictures older than two years cause theit concern is 2 years ofr less. But for the embassy stage you will need to stress on your relationship and ongoing relationship. So there you can show them old and new pictures.

Your brother in law can be a co-sponsor as long as he's a US green card holder or citizen. You and he will both have to fill out a I-134 each. I suggest you read the K-1 guides posted here on VJ.

Good luck!

P.S. I believe Lithuania does not process K-1 visas and your fiance will have to do the interview in Poland. It used to be that way for a while but I still believe Latvians and Lithuanian K-1s are done in Poland.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresRenewing passport before visa interview yes or no?

Dear VisaJourney community,

We've tried looking up this information using the search function, but I can't seem to find one solid answer, so I'd like to put it in front of you guys and se if anyone can help us.

We recently completed and sent the DS156/156K and DS230 forms as well as the "visa interview checklist" to the embassy. So we are basically waiting for them to contact us for (hopefully) an interview date.
Now the thing is, that my (I am the beneficiary) passport is valid for another 8/9 months, so deending on when the interview date is, this could get kind of tricky in terms of still being valid for 8 months when receiving the visa.

To avoid this risk, I'd like to renew my passport BEFORE the interview, but I am now wondering if this will mess up the files they have on me. (Since I filled in my old passport number on everything up until now)

What's the smart thing to do here?

Do I renew my passport, bring both to the embassy and get the visa in my new passport?

It seems most logical, I'm just worried that the new passport numbers are gonna screw up the files with my old passport number.
Or (since it is 2011 after all) is it just a matter of, them checking my new passport and them seeing somewhere in "The System" that I have renewed my passport and that it went from "old passport number" to "new passport number"?

I know, I know a long and (probably) boring question, but I am one of those "worrying" people and this right now has me a little worried.

Thanks in advance for all your help, it is very much appreciated!!

You're just waiting for your interview date in the Netherlands. I don't really know but they might give you the interview date pretty quick. You probably want to check with others to see how long it takes them to get you the date. You'll need your passport for the interview. So I guess it depends how quickly they could renew your passport and get it to you. They say your passport should be valid for 6 months around when you enter the US.

So I guess it really depends, I mean they'll probably give you 2 weeks notice before your interview date. So I imagine even in the worst case you'll probably be able to get it renewed in the time for your interview. But you'll want to ask them how quickly they get your new passport to you.

I started my own thread on this topic. I'm going nuts!!!! 200 days or less from NOA1? Not bad.... I want so bad for this to go right. I knew nothing about this AP at interview stuff. I thought you would get APd at NVC and no where else. Dumb me!
The only thing that has kept my head above water is that no CO in their right mind would deny us, you can tell we are in love, it is hard to miss. When we are together it is like nothing else. I'm sure you know how that feels.

Well then have faith in him and your love for each other. You are imagining the worst, I know it, I have run across it way too many times, But the worst happening is usually pretty rare, Why you're so convinced you'll be in AP is beyond me. But you have no choice, what will be will be, and you will get thru whatever happens. (F)

I did look, before I replied. Many of them are 200 days or less, thats a little bit more than 6 months, some are at 3 months. There's 1 or 2 that may have taken 11 months. I don't see them having any right to judge you on whether you were married before. These people have to follow the US Department Of State rules. The AP happens if they are suscpicious of your relationship, as in is he or both of you just collaborating to get him in the US. Or if his name somehow comes up in some criminal database or something.

But since that, I think, is probably not the case you should be fine.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresapplying for k1 visa for fiance in Pakistan

I went a did some research of my own. The consulate in Abu Dhabi has varied results. I'm a bit worried. It seems that others from middle eastern counries are put on AP, but females from the Philipines go right on through

I am so scared!!! I have been obsessing over this all day! My fiance is a Pakistani National, but he was born and raised in the Emirates. He has never spent more than 2 months in Pakistan. Also, we both have previous marriages, I have kids, and I am older than him (only by 5 years). OMG! I am so convinced we will get AP.

Can anyone calm me down? I need sleep and we still have over 2 months until our interview! :(

You shouldn't worry like that. So far you have received your NOA2 in 3 months, according to you signature! I looked over the UAE timelines actually they are not too bad. What possible reason do you think you have for being put on AP? Your fiance being born in Pakistan poses no issue and your being five years older is not a reason for AP either. USCIS saw no issue with your relationship as they approved you so quickly.

Stressing yourself out over this will not do you and good! Take the 2 months to search this site for interview questions and go thru them with your fiance. This is the time when you need to brief him on all of this so that you two can get through the process with flying colors. Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresapplying for k1 visa for fiance in Pakistan

Which point are we talking madatory APs? Before the interview or at the interview. Your comment "more like what you would expect out of an embassy", what do you mean?

My point is there is no mandatory AP after the interview and I showed it by example of recent approvals which several showed only 3 days or less wait after tthe interview their timeline shows they received the visa, also many showed approval 200 days or less since receiving NOA1. You can check that out for yourself as I showed in my next to previous post.

I also gave you a link to the Islamabad embassy nonimmagrant Visa page wich said some applications may go under AP.

I don't really understand what pre interview AP is. If there is mandatory pre interview AP, then that would mean a 2 month delay at least, but as I saw several cases had their Visas 150 days or less after NOA1. But what makes sense to me is that there has to be a reason that AP was triggered such as Name checks possibly matching ther criminal or terrorrist database, suspiciaon of fraud, relationship etc.

So what I think normal is, is that AP should only get triggered when there is reasonable doubt. You don't put everybody in prison assuming they are guilty and then make them go through trial to prove they are innocent.

You are awesome thanks for researching the info for us. So just to clarify people have gotten their visas 200 days after NOA 1 was sent correct? Hopefully my fiance wont be the one getting her visa within a month or 2 after the interview :hehe: Anyways this deff looks like great news since I`m hoping to have my fiance here by January or February if all goes well.

Yes and several people got it in even less.

You can see for yourself. Hopefull this timeline link works the way I want it to.
Pakistan

You see the column (I think next to the last one) with the number of days, if the number of days has an * by it, they received their Visa. Then you can click on the persons profile and click on their timeline to see the actual dates they put in.

Alright I have checked several (approved visa) VJ Pakistan timelines, especially the most recent 11.

Good news for the folks applying, no need to worry at least 4 or 5 got their Visa within a 3 days of the interview and the average looked like it was 200 days or less from NOA1. The others got their Visa within a month or 2 after interview. I flew thru the others and there were a couple that waited nearly 2 years.

But looking at it I would say for recent petitions anyway, it doesn't look like mandatory APs, more like what you would expect out of any embassy.

Well I guess I couldn't leave this one alone cause the Cyprus embassy is just south of Turkey and if there was even a possibility of something like a mandatory AP it would annoy the heck out of me!

Some countries have mandatory administrative processing. Pakistan is one of them. It all depends if it is done before or after his visa interview. We were in AP for 17 months (several years ago, it has now sped up) because he is from a country considered to be a sponsor of terrorism.

Ok I looked up the Pakistan embassy page: http://islamabad.use...rant_visas.html

"Some visa applications require additional administrative processing, which requires some additional time. Most administrative processing is resolved within 60 days of application."

That doesn't sound mandatory to me. Just out of curiosity, where did you get that info that it was mandatory?

Well I assume you've got your Visa now, sorry they put you through that, and congratulations!
