Middle East and North AfricaSomething in the water in Casa?
I sure hope so, my poor husband had a fight with his parents, they threw him out of the house. I need an approval real bad! I've filed last year, it's been over 14 months and they've denied everything before. Now it's back in Casa and they pretend no to know anything about that!

Middle East and North AfricaInternational Calling Plans

i use www.3u.net they give you an 800# and then dial the person's number in morocco. For morocco...i am getting $.31 a minute and some others i think are $.27 minute. I checked out idt.com as well firelion and i saw the same thing as $.72 a minute..didn't know where the $.18 was at..darn!! 3U also lets you view your bill and it updates it online every day. so i put myself on the budget so that if i know what im up to..then unfortunately i need to slow down on the calling to my baby...I hate that!! have a great day everyone!!!

melinda

Melinda, i checked 3u.net. lol, to call my husband's cell is the most expensive! everywhere! 32cents a min!

Middle East and North AfricaInternational Calling Plans

My husband and I are tired of buying phone cars to call Morocco. Does anyone know of any good calling plans? He wants wireless, but I think a land line would be better. Any ideas?

IDT Globalphone (www.idt.net - i think) It's abt 18cents/min and pretty reliable. You can also print records from online if needed.
easy breezy....
Noura

Nora, I don't know how you are getting 18cents a minute there! I wish I could find that!
http://www.idt.net/p...ntl/worldsaver/
tells me that:
for Morocco cell phone i have to pay this:

WorldSaver Everywhere 72.8¢ per minute
WorldSaver International 85.6¢ per minute
Basic International 103.5¢ per minute

I also went on VOIP.com that Jess recomended - 37 cents a minute to call a cell phone in Morocco. They do charge 26 cents but it has to be landline and my hubby only has a cell.

I'll try Skype which charges 27 cents or www.SaveOnPrepaid.com they charge 26 cents, don't know about the landline.

Middle East and North AfricaBabaganoush recipe
I know a good one with eggplants - learned it this May in Morocco. But it requires a little bit more cooking after the eggplant is baked/grilled/. It's chunky and spicy, Moroccans eat it warm! They reheat it every time. Tastes great for eggplant lovers such as myself. If anyone wants it - just PM me and i'll write it down for you.
And hummus? Where i'm from - we make it with garlic and put fried onions and the oil it's been fried in on top. It's great but you have to take 'beano' or something after, lol. They call it 'musical dish'.

I decided to forward the same e-mail to them every day until they either respond or block me!

Middle East and North AfricaMoroccan Consulate

I have a simple yes or no question and it seems as if they refuse to respond to you, they continue to repyl the FAQ or information sheet but this is not what I am requesting. I just want to know if they have the case. When I looked up on DHL there was no mail sent to Casablanca on the date that I was approved. There was some on the 31st and another person heard back from them. I do not like this part of the process and I am not sure if they are just pulling my legs because they want to or not. If I could punch one of them I would right now. I just want a yes or no, is that so hard. I think they could make this process better if they did what the visa centers here do, like track it and you can sign up for automatic emails or something. But to sit and get nothing this is not cool. I am truely upset becuase I replied back and told they did not answer my specific question and then they send an email back wanting more info. my case number is not enough? Why do they say email when they are not oging to responsed, that is crazy? I got an ext because they forwarded me to someone 4172, but I am sure this is a voice mail box that does not get answered. MEAN girls please give me something, I am not sure what I am looking for but if I can not talk to you then who can I talk to?

I think it is I am just oging with the assumption. Until I say someone else post, I do not know inshallah everythign will be okay, but I swear this is making me not want to do this anymore. My heart can not take this, it is too much. How does this to not be with your loved one. I am not sure why things are the way they are but I pray that America gets off of its high horses. I did contact two my representative and my senator.

I'm with you here, girl. I'm fed up with casa and nobody knowing s.... They don't tell me if they got his papers sent back there (after 6 months here) on Aug 16 or not, just tell me to contact NVC. Casa is terrible and there's only one person who replies on time, but still doesn't give enough info. Well, what else can we do?

I'm tired of buggin all the offices and just letting it all go the way it is until November, that's my goal. Then I'll probably either quit the whole mess or go back to Morocco for a visit.

Middle East and North AfricaOur Moroccan Cafe/Restaurant

I have some great, fun exciting news to share with everyone! Today I was talking to my mom and she knows we've sorta been going through a bit of a rough patch, with the immigration stuff, having to move and Youssef missing home. Well she's been going through some tough stuff too - she can't work at her old job anymore because of some health problems and needed to find something that would be more flexible and easier for her. Her dream has always been to have a cafe/restaurant so today she said to me "What do you think about going in and working on a Moroccan cafe/restaurant here in town" she even offered to take out the loans (with her husband of course) and we spent all day looking and calling places about real estate to house it. We want to have it open in the morning for tea/coffee and breakfast and have a lunch/early dinner menu to start (closing around 5 or 6). We live in a college town so coffee shops are cool and we also want to make it very family oriented so we'll have a little play area for kids with toys and stuff to do, so that moms can come and meet their friends and not have to get worked up about keeping the kids occupied or quiet! We are also thinking about opening it up to have a catering menu for local businesses and having a traditional dinner night once a month where people put in reservations in advance and then we have the full menu with a big traditional Moroccan meal (the food would change some every month), but only one seating at like $25 a person or so. Almost all of the places we found need quite a bit of work but that's ok we're willing to do that! So it was just a little glimmer of happiness here and my husband is sooooo excited. I'm sure he'll be the one pitching in the most!

I think that's a wonderful idea  . But to own any kind of business is a lot of work. I worked at a bakery - the owner was new and had to stay there all the time! Good luck if you decide to do it anyway, inshallah.

Middle East and North AfricaI'm worried... i need your opinion
You want an opinion? I'll give you one. My hubby applied for that too, they wrote down wrong thing and his file and we've been screwed up ever since. It doesn't mean that they'd deny your visa, it just means 'watch out'. You dont' know what they wrote in your papers, hopefully everything's all right, inshallah. But who knows. There's nothing at this point you can do, just wait and see.

And try to prepare for the interview as much as possible, even thought, i've heard women get their visa much easier.

Good luck!

Middle East and North AfricaK1 to K3
I doubt getting married would help. From what I've seen K-1 takes lot less time. Getting married would drain you (Moroccan beauracracy is unbelivable!) - takes a lot of money and leg work. The whole process takes 3 weeks, I tried for 2.5 - didn't work!

And now thinking back, I regret listening to my husband who told me that a marriage anywhere else is not recognized in Morocco and that we'd have to get re-married later on if we'd go for fiance visa. I'm kicking myself every day for actually getting married. It's been 14 months since I've filed and 16 months since we got married and there's no interview or any good news in sight. So, unless I'm terribly wrong, you shouldn't do that! The security checks in Vermont took 6 months and now nobody knows where's the paperwork and what's going on.

Good luck anyway whatever you decide!

Middle East and North AfricaMy husband lives in Morocco
Hi, my husband lives in Morocco too, in area of Fez (a day of traveling distiance from there, actually). We've been married for 1.5 years. Out of all that time we've spent maybe 3 weeks together. This process sucks big time! It's always something that's not working. He had an interview in February (k-3), they've sent the papers back 221(g) - no explanations, as usual. They do it to a lot of people.

Then he had another interview (CR-1 visa) that was basically a joke, not an interview! They looked at his papers and sent him home asking for ME to find out where the K-3 visa papers are! And they are the ones who have all the power, not me! They were the ones who sent the papers back!

It's been 14 months since I've filed and at this point I don't even know where his papers are (I have an idea, but no proof). So, your hopes about which visa works faster made me laugh now (sorry). I was thinking the same thing last year, but I'm not thinking that now.

Well, maybe for you it'll work faster. Hopefully.
I can share my experience, but it's all bad so far. What's good about this site is that you can get moral support from people who know what you're going through. Not a lot of info though. But support helps, people here are wonderful.

I am the original poster, firelion65 if that's your question. And i have 1 ID. I didn't feel like reading anything before, but i came back this evening and it's just mind blowing. Now i know why some people stopped posting. But then again, i got some very nice responses too.

And if somebody didn't like me not being too clear - try being in my shoes for just a tiny moment. I wouldn't recommend it, but clarity is not one of the things you'd worry about.

Well, i just had a lovely chat with my husband (not)! It was a 2-hour chat in 3 months! And all he did was fight and blame me for this stinking process not working! He has to come from far away to chat with me and it cost good money, so he's skipping that too.

Now i'm so READY TO GIVE UP! I was hoping for a good nice chat, but got blamed instead! Who needs that?

I give up! And he wants HIS MONEY back! :crying: :crying: :crying:

What about me getting in debt to go visit him?
I can't take this anymore!

I've been 'almost there' since September last year! And still nothing!

Whatever happens - happens! I'm not lifting a finger anymore!!!
I'm done!

Yeah, he wants his money back! The money he had to spent when we were getting married (legally, no wedding ceremony)! Cause i didn't bring enough with me.
That's all he wants! For all the money i've spent i couldn have gotten another used car when i had a car accident, but he doesn't care. I'm in debt for He wants his money back! Now I had to get another car and oh man! it sucks so much - the money i have to pay every freaking month!

"Also I have found many many very common ingredients like basil, sour creme, marjoram, oregano are very hard to find here... not widely use at all...

Hmmmm my question is... esp for the NA girls here... have you found your SO is very out of the loop food wise? ( i understand not everyone is as enuthastic about food as I am, but I am curious, so plz indugle me ladies)"
**************
OH yeah, Henia! YOu're so right! My hubby has no idea what sour cream, butter milk and cottage cheese are! I had to try some real cheap bolonia and it was terrible but they were kind of crazy about it. And in supermarket when i showed the deli meat and stuff like that to him, he didn't even look at it - i guess, it's just too expensive for them to eat. He didn't like Mozarella cheese either. But they love yogurt and soda! There's no dill either, mushrooms or bay leaves!

Surprise, surprise! I made a Georgian soup (russian-georgian, not from states) and it's hot and pretty good. Everybody said it's Harira!
Now i made Harira for Ramadan (for the first time), and my kids said, it's that georgian soup!

But my 'georginan' soup takes 3 times less time, spices, ingridients and effort!!! Guess, they're still similar. (Tomatoes, meat and rice still there in both of them).
