aftanoon massive!

when ppl have 2 different ideas about raising children, im not sure what can be done besides trying to find some middleground..

i had this problem even w/ my kids biological dad, he stayed on them, sometimes unnecessarily in my eyes, and my idea was that "they are good kids overall, you don't have to be so strict"

we fought sometimes about it, but not enough to cause a major rift.. well not that issue anyway lol

roger believes i should punish my youngest more than i do, he has mentioned it a few times, "steph needs a whooping" . and in those instances he was right, i don't notice until she is out w/ others.. becuz she is such a smart and mature child, i try to give her the benefit of the doubt, but in the end she is still a child and i can't let her act so dyam grown.. i may not put my hands on her as much as roger would on his kids (HE SAYS) but i am gnna start laying the smack down more often..

good luck finding ur middle ground irie

Morning/Afternoon Yardies!

Just in & out real quick....we are back from the AOS interview & we are approved! God truly blessed us even with a really nice officer....Officer Thomas who just so happens to be married to a Grenadan man. She's also a Florida gal so she understands how it is to be from a warm place. We seemed to chat more about food, weather & what not more than interview questions. Lehi ended up answering the bulk of questions & the lady was really understanding of his lack of knowledge of details on things like dates. I'll tell the full story & review this evening when we get home. We are back out to have some lunch before poor honey has to have a root canal at 1:00. Thanks Yardies for all your encouragement! You all are the best!

Ells God is good Sis I knew you would get through!

i'm not a professional in any kind of therapy..i'm talking about kids and behavior..based on my experience with my child and my husband her bilogical dad..i recognized alot of my faults..and he did what he felt was the best thing then and that was to allow me to parent her thinking that would take care of the issue..of course it did not..i'm just saying we cannot dismiss the step parents parenting..we should always give the backing..no one is perfect...and alot of us spoil out kids and we feel no one else has the right to speak to them any kind of way..and that affects a step parent

I totally agree Chiney , its important for us to recognize our faults and individual parent, communicate and stay consistent together.

Chiney, I know it may not solve everything one time. But I can only take it day by day. I would love to go to family counseling but that is not in the budget right now. I also now how stress can effect Louis' attitude.
Louis has no children so this is all new to him. We will have to work this out as a family.

right! but dont u see he has a different view on how a child should behave? stress is no good for anyone..does Tierra say any after he speaks to her or are u the one feeling the "hurt" for her? so ur reacting on his words many children are resilient and until they develop the understanding they will let things "roll" of their shoulders..I see it with Kimora..and she is the only child..and so is Shems daughter

Tierra told me she feels like he does not love her. She has even talked about it to her counselor at school. She is in a group for kids with divorced parents/step parents.

Awwe Irie, my son feels that I don't love him so I know what you are going thorugh.....

On the real, I love my children, they just don't show me as much respect as they should. They are at a "selfish, gang up on mom stage" They know not to go too far because they know im "touched". They try to pull together to gang up on me. Its all good though cause I have faith in God and a good bat! Im a realist, I tell them what they aint ready to hear sometimes, but there it is. My children are going to have to learn their life lessons the hard way and when they do, I will tell them "I told you so" but I will also be there to let them that it will be okay.

Steve is the one who sits down and talks. I can only do that for so long, then "Rashida" comes out and its ON!!!!

OMG! I just had the best sandwich for lunch... fresh mozzarella, mesculin, sweet onions, yellow peppers and this spicy apple pepper chutney! I want more!!

Philly... I am sorry about your family stuff. You know Louis and I have been arguing about Tierra lately. He gets on her about EVERYTHING and when I ask him to cool out it usually ends up in a big argument. I am not sure what to do. I have tried to tell him that he needs to show more love, patience and caring... dont sweat the small stuff. Of course he thinks my way is all wrong... * sigh * .... one day at a time!

That sandwich sounds sooo good, I just ate steamed carrots and squash with jerk seasoning ( BORING)

I'm sorry Irie, I know its so frustrating with these family issues, one thing I try not to do is let the boys come between Damian and I. I know it's extremely hard in your situation but you both have to sort it out come to an agreement and be consistent cause if not it will cause a rift.... I pray everything works out Cat, the family drama is the worse! luv.gif

QUOTE (Chiney*Eyes @ Dec 8 2009, 02:10 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
in this American culture its easier to say dont sweat the small stuff..we have to remember the step parent is looked at as the outsider..ur child will play on the fact UR MY MOM and HE"S NOT MY DAD..u have to set the rules and make sur eshe gets it..if he "gets" on for something..make sure u speak about it..don't dismiss his discipline...in the future ur going to need his backing and he wont give it because u have set the pace of "its not that serious"..one day it will be THAT serious..Tierra is a big girl..she understands..

My son (remember I sent him away to Louisiana after he was acting an azz) will be back for good in 2 weeks.....hmmmmm, so I may be with you in the frustration soon.... He was supposed to stay all school year but there were "issues" so home he comes! He did improve his grades and he does realize that home was really not so bad...so we will see....

Thanks Jamerican, LOL about the 3 months its been 8 months since Hubby arrived and it seemed for a brief stint it was easing up a likkle but it just got 100x's worse! I wanted to send him to either JA or Haiti with family but timing was all messed up and I realize I need to deal with these issues here...

That is great your son improved his grades that means he is trying and that is a great effort on this part. I hope that when he comes home he doesn't fall back into the same cycle.... rose.gif

Good Morning Everyone! I wanted to thank everyone for their well wishes and congrats. I wanted to give you guys and update on his arrival so I apologize in advance for being so long-winded....

Airport
Ivan made it in on Friday around 5pm. It took almost a hour and a half for him to emerge out of the terminal so I was starting to get a little worried that he was held up in immigration. But he told me that the plane landed and did not have a gate so they were stuck on the runway for a while. Anyway, my brother and I just waited patiently. Him and my brother had never met, so he kept pointing at every dark-skinned brother asking if that was him. He finally emerged with his white t-shirt on looking so lost and my brother knew immediately it was him. I quickly ran over and we hugged a kissed. The whole experience was surreal because I could not believe my honey was finally here.

We walked over to baggage claim to find that his bags were not there, so we came to the Delta baggage claim counter to see what was up. That was Ivan's first gay male encounter in the US. This guy was flamin' times 10 and Ivan couldn't even look him in his face to answer the questions. In the most feminine voice ever, he was like "Where is your baggage claim ticket?" Then he started humming negro spirituals!! Ivan is looking at my brother like WTH blink.gif ! I had to step in and save the day! I answered all of the questions and found out that his bags could be arriving on the belt within the next 45 minutes. After we left out of the office, everyone fell out on the floor laughing because he was way over the top. Meanwhile, he was starving so we decided to grab a bite to eat while waiting. Of course, Ivan was looking perplexed at all of the menus unsure.gif . There was Wendys, A chinese restaurant, Domino's pizza and a soul food restaurant. He opted for soul-food and had his first experience with many more to come....After, we ate, laughed and talked. We were finally able to get his bags and walk to the car. Luckily, I had bought a coat, hat and gloves because when he walked outside to the car, he was like wow.gif It was about 40 degrees.

Friday Evening
After we left the airport, we went to Atlantic Station. This is an area that has restaurants, shopping, movie theatres, bowling alley etc...We walked around to look at the Christmas decor. Then we went to Fox Sports Grille to have some drinks. After we left there, it was well after 9pm so we had to rush off to get my daughter by 11. I think he was really amazed by all of the buildings and scenery. He would often try to get me to describe what things were like, so I think he was just amazed to finally see it. We then drove home and on the way stopped at the liquor store to get his favorite drink, Appleton Rum.

After we left there, we picked up my daughter from daycare (they had parent's night out from 6-11). When she walked out to the car, she was like, " I thought Ivan was supposed to be coming." Then mid-sentence, she looked up and saw him. She walked up to him, looked up and said, Hi! You are from Jamaica." "My mommy said she is going to take me there." He picked her up, kissed her and that was the sweetest moment. heart.gif They had never met at this point and only talked on the phone so I couldn't believe they were finally meeting. After that we got home, he had his first encounter with the dog. We were laying on the bed and the dog jumped on his chest and stared him done. He started freaking out, like get him off. The dog finally jumped down. I guess that was their male bonding moment. Although, I don't think Ivan has gotten used to the idea of having da dog in the house.

Saturday
We woke up around nine and was immediately greeted by the kids (my daughter and the dog). Ivan opened the blinds to look outside and It was snowing!!! He was like OMG!! ohmy.gif I was too...Because we don't get much snow in Atlanta. We then cooked breakfast together. We didn't get a chance to get to the grocery store, so we had to put some things together for breakfast. But, it was so nice to be able to eat as a family. My daughter is a very picky eater, but seems to like everything he has cooked thus far. After we ate, she then harrassed us about putting up the Christmas tree. I told her that we wouldn't put it up to Ivan arrived. And she had not stopped worrying me since he stepped foot in the door. We put on a reggae CD and put up the Christmas tree. Later we went walking through the n'hood in the 32 degree weather. After about 15 minutes, he was ready to bring his rass in the house. We hung around the house for the rest of the afternoon and watched movies. Later, my brother and him got out on the weight bench in the garage, took off their shirts and the testosterone kicked in. They are flexing, comparing back muscles and seeing whose smedium shirt fits the best. My daughter and I were looking like WTH!!
That evening, we packed up in the car to get out. We found a local Jamaican restaurant that is attached to a grocery store. We ended up spending like $35 on a few things, but I was so happy that he has a place close by to get groceries. We later ate at the restaurant and the food was ok. We later took my daughter to Toys R Us. Which Ivan thought was way over the top. He then got his 1st experience at the mall, which was very overwhelming. After we got a couple of sweaters, shoes and visited Sephora to try on all of the colognes. He was ready to roll!! We got home chilled for a minute and decided we were going to hit the club. We had planned to go to Club Intrique where Serani was performing. It was free before 11:30. But we ended up making it there too late and the cover was $25. I was like hell-to-the-no. So we ended up, going to Club 426 next door. When we got there it seemed kind of dead, but Ivan was happy that they sold Magnum Tonic...After about an hour the club was packed and jumping and all you could hear was blop, blop, blop... We had so much fun and it felt so good to hear him day several times that he felt like he was in Ochi. We left about 2:30.

Sunday
We woke up and realized that we were late for church. Ivan made peanut porridge for breakfast and we decided to go the noon church service. Everything was good there and he seemed to enjoy the service. We missed our "Marriage Without Regrets" class so we will have to catch it next Sunday. I'm a little nervous about that because he seems a little hesitant to take the course. Its the typical black male mentality that, "no one can tell us how to be married. " But we will see how that goes. Well I have a meeting coming up so I need to get back to work. Sorry to be so long-winded, but I probably won't get to be on hear as much so I wanted to give everyone an update.

Enjoy your day!!

Char thanks for sharing, I know you are on cloud nine now that your fiance is here! LMAO @ the flaming Airline rep, that is too funny he will definitely have many more encounters of that nature in your travels haaaa

Morning Ladies!

So sorry Philly for your loss. I am sure your friend understands that you cannot be there.
Blessed… thank goodness you are ok, that sounds pretty scary. Hope you are feeling better…
Jess … hope your foot is feeling better and don't work to hard!

Hope the ladies with their men fresh on arrival continued to have a great weekend!!

We finally got snow this weekend in Maine. It was just enough to make everything look really pretty. Tierra and I headed to LL Bean for new snow pants and boots. She looks cute in dark purple and brown. I steered her clear of PINK this year… LOL

I was so excited to sleep in this Saturday.. Louis didn’t have to work Friday night so no reason to get up early… Well 5AM!! the neighbors upstairs had their grandson and he was running back and forth the length of the apartment for HOURS!!! Now I can understand the child getting up early… but c'mon! Can you not let him run around WITH SHOES ON at 5am? Oh man Louis was so mad. He finally called the landlord yesterday after it sounded like they were rearranging furniture ALL DAY! The landlord just called (after speaking to the people upstairs) and told Louis they were being "effing aholes"… landlords exact words!!! haha… he is such a "Mainah".
I am the 1st one to empathize and say… well its their grandson, they don’t have him all the time, or… the guy is HUGE and walks heavy. But I think it is beyond that now. I really think they don’t care, or don't like us. Louis even wrote them a note once explaining he works nights and just would like a few hours sleep in the mornings.
Its so weird how they can just not care. I would feel so bad if I were upstairs making all that noise. Now I feel all uncomfortable when I run into them outside. UGH…

Oh Dang Irie, that ain't right just inconsiderate. mad.gif I understand its a child but hours on with the running back and forth can be nerve wracking to say the least! I know how you feel with inconsiderate neighbors ughhhh and the landlord seems fed up too hot mess!

Hi Yardies...

Always Blessed I'mj so glad you are ok. God is great and he kept you safe.

Friday: Well Garfield came into JFK @ 9:25pm (Air J was actually on time) it took him about 45 min to get out. When I say him I was jumping up & down waving my arms so he cane see me. He gave me a kiss and said see I made it. Well I put on his coat but did not zip it up. When he step outside and felt the NY cold air he FROZE...me and my sister fell out laughing at him. I zipped his coat up and gave him a kiss. The reunion was off the chains......

Saturday: We got up ate breakfast and then went to see my sister, aunt, dad and a few friends all the time it was raining in NY then we headed home around 3:15pm. When the rain changed to SNOW his mouth fell open. I said baby its snowing. He call JA and told his mom he looked like a big kid. We got home after 9pm (after we went to see my daughter at her college, pick up another daughter, went to see my friend and did grocery). We finally went to sleep after midnight and did not wake up until 10:30am.

Sunday: we went to the laundry and then I took him to the mall...when he saw the inside of Arundel Mills Mall he was floored. I have never walked the entie mall but I did today. The man wanted to buy everything but I talked some sense into him. Now we are home and he is cooking us a late dinner.

I sooooooooo LOVE my Hubby heart.gif

HI Lady C thanks for sharing, LOL about the snow. Sounds like you 2 had a great welcome home to the US weekend!

Is that cute or what?????? Louis @ 9 or so....1st communion!

Awwe he looks exactly the same!

Congrats on the Louis Tierra news that is wonderful! luvs it :luv:

want some more good news???
well the ex had a talk w/ our daughters and saw how much they wanted to be back in their house.. my youngest grew up in that house.. this is what i tried to explain to him since day one but it was a brick wall situation.. so anyway.. he said that he would sign the house over to me !!!!! i was skeptical BUT we couldn't find a renter anyway by the due date, sooooooo I WENT FOR IT!!!!!

we moved in on this weekend, me and mister all by ourselves.. we did the dyam thang.. and i am soooo happy and SOOOOOO grateful to God for putting this all in place in the right timing..
it will have to grow on roger because he does not like the idea AT ALL.. but i told him i was not willing to risk forclosure and thousands of dollars down the drain for a male ego.. i love him to death, but i have sacrificed alot because of that love.. he has to meet me half way.. besides this is best for our whole family.. we can't have his kids over for the summer in a two bedroom apt.. now they will have their own room!!
thanks to all my yardies who lent an ear during this time.. a
nd jamerican! big ups to you for telling me bout the obama program!! you are an angel my girl

Praise him!!!!! God is Good Q I am so happy for your Sis!

irie.. girl it was soooo very hard..but i have to make some decisions for what QUANA want.. i thought i was gonna have the shortest marriage ever in yardie history, no lie  ..
i know my baby wants us to make our way together with nothing from the past, but like you said.. i have told him we can make any changes he wants, even sleep in another room if he preferred.. he said why can't we just save to have another house.. well, w/ jamaica trips and trying to rebuild credit for how strict these companies are gonna be on me w/ a foreclosure, how soon do you think that will happen???
he is coming around i think..

Q sometimes I have learned in life its not always about what you want but what you need!! God knows this is what you need. This house is only a structure your marriage is stronger than bricks cement and sheet rock! This is what is going to put you on the right track with your credit , saving and future. Rog will see this and know its best for everyone. I am really so happy for you, just to know the POWER OF THE CREATOR and how he always has a PLAN!

thanks tee baby..
roger is like any other man and likes to think of me as being a virgin b4 him, even tho i have 2 children :bonk: :bonk: LOL.. he said he would always think bout what was "done" in the house and he would be miserable
i finally told him.. "well lets go "cleanse" every room before we move, will that make it better?"
he was so mad i thought he was gonna give me the side eye, but he said "ok, lets go"
   :bonk: :bonk:

I know that's right and you should do a cleansing Bless this house for you and your family that is what i'm talking about we do that ritual as well ! LMAO @ the side yeye, he is gonna be ok Quanna trust me :luv:

hey everybody..
ms tee.. its not really that ells shouldn't be upset.. heck she should feel anyway she pleases like you said, and she should tell her husband how she feels about.. BUT, should those feelings be the deciding force in a mutual decision?
i believe as a wife, we sometimes can use our feelings to manipulate our husbands to doing things WE want them to do, even UNKNOWINGLY.. NOT SAYING ELLS IS OR WOULD EVER DO THIS,
this is esp easy to do w/ our husbands, men that are here away from everyone they know and love , and all he has is his wife (whom he loves as well LOL).. he will want to do what she wants, how she wants to make her happy and for life to be peaceful in the house..
this can cause problems down the line.. so i think what most of us are saying is she should take Lehi's feelings into consideration which she very well may be doing and try for both of them to come up with a solution together that BOTH his and her best interest in mind..
i hope ells or nobody else feels bad about things that are said, this is your venting spot and if it sparks a discussion, please don't take anything personal

Thanks Philly! Here is an update for you guys...

He is out of ICU which is a good thing. He hasn't had to receive anymore blood and it seems that it has stopped. They found out that it isn't coming from the esophogus this time but rather the stomach. He has gone through A LOT of tests at the Mayo Clinic in Phoneix this past September to determine how serious the liver damage is and if he would need a transplant. It wasn't bad enough at that time so he was just on the standby list. However since this has happend they have moved him to the donor list and have been working with his insurance company regarding the transplant. Hope one come available for him and he gets one soon. Thanks for keeping him in your prayers the are working!!!! rose.gif

Dillon, I am praying that a transplant becomes available ASAP, so glad he is out of ICU! I have faith everything will be just fine! Are you going to visit?

From my view point - not saying she doesn't have a right to be upset - But she has to allow her husband to make the decisions - To make him call his father back last night and tell him not to come is treating him like a child - I probably would have been annoyed to, and thought how ridiculous this is - But at the end of the day, my husband is a grown man and he has to make his choices - if he doesn't decide how much of a relationship he wants with his father, whatever - there is a potential that one day he could flip it and resent Ells for interfering, which would cause bigger problems down the road -

We also don't know the full story of why his father didn't have contact for all those years - There could have been a zillion reasons why - including that possibly he tried and hubby's Mom blocked it - We can't place blame on the man when we don't know why -

But ultimately, the decision needs to be up to her husband to decide how much of a relationship he wants with his father, and to speak up to his father for himself - He is a grown man - Sometimes our SO does something in a way we don't agree with - but they are grown - we have a right to share our concerns with them - We don't have a right to tell them what to do - they aren't our child.

Well said Sus none of these issues are so straight forward we have to look at it from all angles star_smile.gif

Nice post Dens -- I think sometimes (speaking for myself here) when we have seen SO much negative stuff / scams / pure phockery - it's easy to jump and see the bad possibilities = I pray and hope that it works out the best for you

Philly, sounds like your kids (or at least one) and hubby are really trying - happy for you.

Well said in regards to Dens post!
Thanks Sus ( hugs)

Well I'm going to rock it like this...I'm grown and a big girl...I know what's what...at the end of the day, I will be okay no matter what...that's just how I'm built. I've prayed over the situation and given it a lot of thought. I love Den but was never so blinded by the love that I could not think reasonably and make a good decision. I think he is a very good man and he has been working himself crazy to do what he needs to do for his son. He is an excellent father...I can't say what the Mama will or will not do in the future, all I can do is handle myself and hold myself up to do what I need to do as a woman. If I do that, I will never go wrong. I'm going into this with the best intentions in the world. I'm keeping God as the head and everything else will be alright!

Well said Den's I wish you the best of luck
