The Calgary Herald

CALGARY - It is barely October, but Calgary is expected to see its first snow this fall over the weekend, forecasts say.

Environment Canada says the current stretch of sunny but cool weather will give way to rain this afternoon - and then changing to wet snow overnight.

The wet snow and showers will continue Saturday and likely Sunday, the forecast says. Lows will reach 0 C tonight and will only hit a high of 4 C on Saturday and Sunday.

Temperatures have been slowly creeping downward in Calgary since the heat wave in late September pushed the mercury to above 30 C. Last night, lows reached -4 C, and highs only reached 13 C.

Hmm having second thoughts of leaving Florida Tmix laughing.gif

Tornados touched down in Toronto last night... It was really scary. I was at a restaurant with some old co-workers of mine and the power went out, it was pitch black I guess they had no generator. The thunder was literally shaking the building and the lightning I had never seen so frequent and large before. The sky went so dark and purple and I saw no funnel clouds myself, but some trees got snapped in half and many homes destroyed in the Vaughn north of Toronto area. I never saw a storm this bad in my life!

When is it going to be summer? mad.gif We had some nice days in June that were 25 C and above...now July....raining and cold and can't even get above 20C!! I've only worn my capris 2x so far! The low last night 3 C! Its windy and cold right now 8C!!!!! I feel bad for those suckers out at the Craven Country Jamboree in their tents...maybe a camper wouldn't be so bad! I would have loved to see all the big headliners like Taylor Swift Kellie Pickler and George Strait! A mud bath and wrestling...maybe not so fun!

Ugghhh that sucks Minnew!! I can't believe it was only 3C. We had some pretty bad thunderstorms last night

I miss having seasonal weather changes. It gets kind of boring watching the same weather report every day.

Having said that, however..... watch us get some really exciting weather and I'll be terrified and eating my words. lol

Yeah I'm not sure if I'd like warm weather all year round.... I like the season change and love fall! I dislike heat and humidity so much. I wouldn't adjust to FL too well I don't think.

It's probably the coldest day we have had so far- down to 16 overnight and only up to 30 right now with a really really stiff wind blowing. Still, it is warmer than back home for my friends visiting from Kingston. I have been introduced to the hobby of geo-caching - 17 so far in and around our area. They are not deterred by the weather! (Carla, I think we also found the one you guys were looking for after lunch recently!). Warming up by the weekend, thank heavens. I have had enough of this cold weather - it has been far colder than usual this winter starting way back in October.

I was reading about the unusually cold weather in the southeast, and it's really affecting the citrus growers.

It's pretty cold in Philly.... my poor Dad left Quebec to get away from the bitter cold and snow, he and my stepmom rented a house in Lake Wales FL for 2 weeks. He called this morning to say it's 0 degrees and he can't even go golfing, so he's off to the movies!

Oh wow. LOL. Well, hopefully this is only their first week here because it's going to start getting warmer by the weekend. smile.gif

hehe yes it's their first week there, they are staying until the 30th so hoping it warms up for them a little bit!

It's about 75 F (24 C) here at the moment, but is supposed to get up to 85 (30 C).

I have a question about Celcius and Farenheit. How long did it take for you to start using Farenheit when you moved to the U.S.? Mel doesn't know the Farenheit system, and wasn't really interested in the quick equations to roughly convert. I don't mind, I just learned Celcius. I even got my car's external thremometer on Celcius.

I've been here 2 months and have a hard time with F.... My husband got me a conversion sheet because I couldn't figure it out, I much prefer C. That was good of you to learn C though!!

CanadaJust wanted to say so long & thanks!
I completely agree, having you and Nev as Canadian friends here has meant the world to me and helped me so much. Sometimes our get-togethers would literally be the only thing that kept me going that week or month. I can't wait to get together when I'm in Toronto, we can meet up at Timmy's

Thanks guys!

Let me tell you, I met two ladies off this board in real life and if it wasn't for them, it would have been so much more difficult. It was such a pleasure to have a few Canadians to tell you how you are feeling is okay and listen to your aches and pains! Thanks Nev and Jill!!!

Kimbear - he still doesn't get the "double/double" thing but I will have to teach him some more! haha

Colleens - we will have to keep in contact to see how the process is going. I'm not thrilled about doing this all over again but what can you do?

Ok - we ended up going to a new Mexican Restaurant that had sent a card and flyer in the mail to us - the card had a free dessert on it smile.gif . I had mesquite chicken quesadillas and Joe had 2 poblanos - the food was good, so we'll be back. We split a flan for dessert - think creme brulee- and it was excellent. The decor was nice - like a hacienda with murals on the wall showing what you might see if you looked out the windows. The service was excellent - and they had a birthday party going on next to us. Halfway through our meal the staff all came out, plunked a big red, gawdy sombrero on the head of this guy and sang the Mexican version of "Happy Birthday". Now I know where to take someone to embarrass them on their birthday! They were getting set up for some sort of a band entertainment when we left and people were lining up so it seems like a pretty busy place.

That sounds really good and fun!! I love Mexican restaurants, the atmosphere is always pretty cool!!

It's strange, but I have never thought to make my own baked chips. Are they good? On a potato scale of 1-10 with 10 being delicious and one being - not delicious, how would you rate those baked chips?

Homemade chips are sooo good. I make them alot. I rate them a 9!! I put them in my slicer then sprinkle them with garlic salt. They come out super crispy!!
