It was really good news for me too when I found out.... I can contribute to rent and bills!! I just transfer every few weeks. I believe trailmix started a wiki page for EI to answer FAQ's and there are websites for you to look at. Here are a few to get you started:

Flames is correct, I found out it has to be deposited into a Canadian bank account. That was fine, because I also signed up for Custom House and it's really great! Only downfall is it takes about 5-7 days for the transfer to go through, so you don't see it right away.

I don't yet have my EAD and I'm still getting EI....

I appllied for my EI from Texas about a month ago now. I received a letter telling me that I will be cut off in February as that's when my K1 expires. I still have not received anything from them stating that I will begin to receive anything to begin with yet. How long does it take to process an application for EI? I call and call and call but the voicemail box is full all the time.

Did you send in your original ROE copy, or fax it? I know they won't begin the application to send you EI until they receive your ROE. It did take about a month for them to process my application.

I emailed a scanned copy of it at their request. They haven't commented on anything since they received that. I still can't get through to talk to anyone there.

Here's a little secret, I have the direct line to Donna who is really helpful. I had the same problem as you, I kept calling to a full machine. Finally they called ME and I wrote down the # that came thru on the call ID. It is 613-969-3873. If you call there you should get thru to someone. Anytime I've called back Donna has answered. Good luck!

Thanks...same full voicemail message though. sad.gif

Darn it.... keep trying and trying, until you get thru! Maybe she's on lunch break or something.

YAY I finally got through and they approved me. Onmly problem is they have been sending my "cards"? to a different address. They messd up the street number with the apartment number. So what is on these cards that I have to fill out? Donna offered to help me with it over the phone but she decided it best if I talk with someone else as I have some self employment questions and how that relates to "hours of job search".

The cards is one sheet you receive, it's a report card. You basically have to scratch 5 or so "yes or no" boxes stating if you've been looking for work, are willing and able, etc. Then you sign the other side and date it, you can only mail it back on the date it says on the card. It comes with an envelope you can send it in. You send them every 2 weeks or so, once they receive the cards they will process it and within 2 days you should receive the EI in your account. I didn't get my cards either at first so Donna did them over the phone with me, she updated my address then I finally received them.

EI just called to ask me a bunch of questions, about if I was really work authorized etc etc and if I'd been looking for jobs... they wanted to know if I got the work authorized stamp at the POE which I didn't.... but anyway it sounds like they approved me because they said "the first payment will be deposited in your account on Monday" I was just worried they wouldn't because she wanted proof I was legal to work, like to see a copy of my EAD....

I just did my EI application online last night. One question though: since the immigrant visa in my passport states "Upon endorsement, serves as temporary I-551 evidencing permanent residence for 1 year", is this all I need to prove my ability to work, or do I need to wait for the actual I-551 card and/or SSN card? When I was admitted at the border I was told I could work right away.

You don't need a SSN card to apply for EI.

So I have finished putting my ROC package all together, just need to do my cover page.... It's so BIG though! we don't have much in both names except for a joint bank account & a loan...we are both unemployed at the moment so we don't even have health ins...I am waiting for a letter from my previous employer(insurance co) stating that my hubby was on my ins for 2 yrs prior to me being laid off.

so basically I have the tax returns, bank statements & a letter from my landlord...I sent travel itinerary & pics but obviously that wasn't enough.

I think the tax transcripts from the IRS as well as w-2's will help...I also printed bank statements from 2007-til now..instead of what I first sent which was only 2 statements(idiot that I am)

OK, then do as they request and send them the tax returns, and the important part of bank statements is to show that you have joint bank accounts dating back to when you got married.
Also, the loan will be helpful so make sure you send a copy of that as well. It looks like you are on the right track

I think the problem was I sent like 2 statements and I sent recent ones like an idiot wacko.gif I now have statements dating from the time we were married til now...those along with the w-2's and IRS transcripts should be enough..they were pretty clear about what they wanted so I am giving them exactly what they are asking for...I guess I was a little dumb when I sent in the original paperwork blink.gif

Ok...I will try to be as brief as possible! First hello to everyone....my peeps! I haven't been on in a while-sorry unsure.gif

IRS transcripts(I sent internet #######)
Bank info-from the beginning of the relationship til now(I didn't send enough-I sent just 2 statements wacko.gif )
joint ownership of assests(other than a rental agreement-we don't have much)

so...If I send...

letter from landlord stating that my hubby has lived here since 2006(when he came over on k-1)
official IRS tax transcripts from past 2 years
bank statements from 2007 til present

will that be enough?

I have 30 days to send back-any info would be much appreciated! star_smile.gif

Looking ahead I am wondering if anyone has had an experiance with offices in the Philadelphia area and early Biometrics appointments, are they possible?

Also do you need to have a Bio appointment letter to go for your bio appointment or will NOA1 do?

Also what else do you need to go for your Bio metric appointment?

Thanks

you will need the bio appt letter first! my hubby was in and out in 5 minutes....i do not think the NOA1 is enough....you should get your bio appt letter soon. I think he had to bring his passport & that was it

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionBiometric Appointment Question
Hi group,

I was wondering if anyone else has gotten something like this in their case to remove conditions for their step-children. My husband and step-son both got letters in the mail for biometrics appointments but my stepson is only 12 years old. My understanding that was that children under 14 do not need biometrics done but that you paid the fees for them anyway. Have the rules changed? We're all going to go to the appointment anyway, since he got the letter but maybe they just won't do it once he gets there and they realize his age. Good thing school hasn't started so it won't be a big deal for him to go along since its right here in the city.

Just wondering if anyone has any insight on this..

Thanx

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI-751 REMOVAL CONDITIONS PENDING IN VSC
Hello everybody. I submitted my I-751 petition and it has February 11th. 2009 as the official date. I have received every document like the extension status of 1 year more and the notice of the appointment for fingerprinting and taking of photos. The appointment of photos and fingerprints I already had it on March in Philadelphia, PA. Since that date I have checked frequently the internet processing times, unfortunately I have not received absolutely nothing else. I have just watched the last updated for that petition with my official date and the VSC service center, it appears within 6 months, the timeframe is of course on August 11th of 2009. My question is: What has happened with my case? I have not received anything neither a notice of appointment, neither nothing so far after the fingerprinting and photos. I have seen there are people that filled maybe like 4 or 6 weeks later than me, and it looks like their cases has been processed. Anybody think that is it possible another interview? (I have had just one with my wife exactly 2 years ago in Philadelphia). Please anybody can recommend me something? (I have just called costumer service in USCIS, they say that if I don't have any notice or someething until August 11th, I have to call them right away, and they tell me what I have to do. Please somebody give me maybe a comment, suggestion, insight, opinion; anything is helpful for me , thanks so much, J.C. good.gif

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionCall from Immigration officer
Hello Guys. I hope my insight help out a little bit. I am going to give everybody some advices or warnings that maybe not too much people know about. Guys, first mistake and I want to clear this up for everybody. NEVER, BUT NEVER, YOU HAVE TO GIVE IMMIGRATION MORE THAN 1 PHONE, YOU HAVE JUST TO GIVE THEM YOUR CELL PHONE NUMBER, IN CASE OF ANY CALL, YOU CAN HANDLE MUCH BETTER THE SITUATION. It is the same situation when you go to your husband or wife to any appointment in an immgration office, ok, I know you have to give them probes of the relationship and the whole of the bunch of the universe of what they ask for; HOWEVER, NEVER AND EVER, DO NOT GIVE IMMiGRATION TOO MUCH PHOTOS AND TOO MUCH DOCUMENTS; WITH GOOD QUALITY AND CONVINCING DOCUMENTS IS ENOUGH. REMMEMBER THAT THE COUPLE HAVE TO STUDY AND ANALIZE EVERYTHING WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO SHOW TO THE OFFICER IN THE IMMIGRATION OFFICE, OR ELSE, YOU ARE GOING TO BE IN A BIG PROBLEM. THERE IS A POPULAR SAYING : "YOU CANNOT GIVE AWAY TO YOUR ENEMY THE KNIFE THAT THEY ARE GOING TO USE TO KILL YOU". Therefore, the message is clear, it is fine to give some good convincing probes, but DO NOT GIVE TOO MUCH PROBES NEITHER TOO MUCH PHOTOS. The immigration officer can take out or pull out any any of the information that is on the phtos; from the failure to try to reject your case as soon as possible. ANOTHER IMPORTANT THING, DO NOT SPEAK MUCH MORE THAN THE NORMAL QUESTION ASKED. WHAT IS EXACTLY THIS IDEA? It means that when the officer asks something clear, PLEASE RESPOND AS MUCH AS CLEAR, BREVE AND CONCISE AS POSSIBLE. DO NOT RESPONSE NOTHING THAT IT IS REALLY MIGHT BE NOT CLEAR OR MAYBE A MISTAKE, EVERYTHING THAT ANY OF THE PERSON SAY IN THE INTERVIEW OF EXTRA DETAILS, IT WOULD BE USED AGAINST YOU!. Now, concerning to the ISSUE OF THE VISITING sometimes from Immigration, I am not really convinced that idea would be too accurate; ok, let's say, that maybe immigration presents to your door one day, let's put an example. You are the person who lives in the house, this statement has to be clear for everybody: DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR TO ANY STRANGER OR MISSIONARY, OR RELIGIOUS WORKER, OR BILL AGENT, OR REAL STATE WHOEVER OR SALES PERSON FROM DOOR TO DOOR. BESIDES THAT IDEA NOBODY IS FORCED TO OPEN THE DOOR TO AN IMMIGRATION OFFICER, BECAUSE YOUR ARE THE TENANT, OCCUPANTS OR OWNER OF THE HOUSE; GUYS, YOU DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR TO NOBODY THAT YOU DO NOT WANT, AND THAT'S IT. YOU ARE NOT FORCED TO OPEN THE DOOR TO NOBODY THAT YOU DON'T WANT. THE LEVEL OF INOCENCY OR NAIVENESS OF THE PERSON MAY CAN HARM OR HINDER YOUR CASE OF IMMIGRATION, SO IT IS BETTER ALWAYS TO GET THIS WARNINGS AND DETAILS. Now, there is another issue, that in case of any appointment of immigration, DO NOT LEAVE ANYBODY, NEITHER CHILD OR FRIEND, OR ABSOLUTE NOBODY IN THE PLACE THAT YOU LIVE. This is the explanation of this WARNING, there are couple who sometimes leave any person or child in the house; this scenario has happenned before and what is really is that meanwhile you are interviewing guys, another officer of immigration performs a little or much better A BIG WORK OF SPIONAGE and it is going to call to your place exactly the same time that you are in the immigration office with your questioner officer. Therefore, the other officer can make up and he can state that he or she is an agent of insurance or any kind of promotions, and it is when the people may screw up everything; from this information, USCIS through the other immigration officer can figure out and exact know that maybe if you are or you are not living right now with your husband, if you are actually really married with the person; any person or child who is in the house at that exact time where the couple is in the dreadful immigration interview might commit any mistake and give out information to immigration that you may not that they want and your case is going to be DENIED. HENCE, THE CONVINIENCE OF KEEPING ONLY JUST A NUMBER, THE CELL PHONE NUMBER OF THE BENEFICIARY OR THE CELL PHONE NUMBER OF THE PETITIONER, ANY KIND OF LEAKING OUT OF THE INFORMATION OR MAYBE A MISTAKE OR MISUNDERSTANDING, IT MIGHT BE USED AGAINST YOU AND UNFORTUNATELY, YOU ARE WELCOME BACK TO YOUR COUNTRY OF ORIGIN BECAUSE YOU ARE GOING TO GET A DEPORTATION. THAT IS TO BE VERY WISE, PRUDENT AND SHARP WITH EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE, I hope everybody have got understood all these nice ideas, thanks and bye,

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionSeparated during conditional GC
Hello my friend. I hope of this insight helps you out something for your knowledge. For immigration, they DO NOT CARE IF YOU ARE SEPARATED, the problem for them is that if you are DIVORCED. For them , it is normal that a couple has normal fights, even separations during days, even months. Of course, you have to tell the thruth in case you are interviewed or something. They watch a separation of days even just a few months as normal. Every couple has the right or duty to fight, discuss and argue about their own problems. Remmember something that for LEGAL TERMS, YOU ARE NOT OFFICIALLY DIVORCE UNTIL THE JUDGE IN THE COURTROOM PUT THE NOTE OR JUDGEMENT OF DIVORCED. THE REST MEANS YOU ARE MARRIED, so in case of a demand of divorce or submitting of papers of divorce, they cannot know that issue, you are not going to mention that neither, and you are not officially divorced until the judge issues the judgment out. I don't know if the officer in U.S. Canada border Costums, they put on the system something, I really do not know in that case. But, I give you and advice, act as it was written down something in your records, so you can be very aware of everything involved in your case. Thanks and bye,

Hello Lady, I have just to tell you, CONGRATULATIONS FOR YOUR ADVANCEMENT IN YOUR LIFE WITH THIS ACHIEVEMENT! it is not easy what you have reached, there are many who are on the way, but it is not easy anyway. For my case, my case is delayed, I submitted my papers of removing conditions of residence on feb 11 of 2009; I have received the paper of extension of status and the biometrics, everything has happened succesfully. My biometrics were on March 7, the case automatically had a touch on the next following business day; from that point to here, there is NOT absolutely nothing more so far. The case is like taking a little bit mroe than the 6 months projected (right now 6 months and 2 days and nothing more
). I tell you CONGRATULATIONS AND HAVE A GOOD NICE LIFE IN THE US. BYE,

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionDriver license expires the same day as Green card.
Hello friend, I don't know it depends on your state. What I tell you, it is that you have to drive in that way until you have the paper from immigration. I don't know if in your state you can get renewed your Driver's License with the NOA of immigration, if so, I think you have the permission during a few days. I suggest anyway that call or much better go to your office of License and explain your case; believe me, they might know what do, even better, they can give you a special permission where you can drive until your renewed green card comes up again. I hope my opinion helps you out, thanks and bye,

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionFiled I-751 late, now what?
Hello everyboyd, buddy, I don't know how it passed that BIG DETAIL FOR YOU. Anyway, I can try to give you what I think and I have heard (I'm not a lawyer, SO PLEASE CONTACT A LAWYER OR A PERSON WHO IS PARALEGAL WITH EXPERIENCE ON THESE IMMIGRATION ISSUES ANYWAY). What I know is that you HAVE to show to immigration that it was a big big reason or inconvenient that you don't submit those papers or I -751 on time. You have to show them that let's say for example: you or your wife suffered an accident or any kind of big problem that you have the physical excuse to probe it, but of course, it has to be something very strong and convincing. I think that automatically USCIS is going to send you a kind of letter of filling out of time and maybe your petition I751 is going to be DENIED. You have one resource I think is an appeal NOTICE OF APPEAL OR MOTION I-290B FORM, that you have to file, so USCIS reopens your case, of course, like everything in USCIS, they are going to charge you an expensive fee of $585, you know how is all the things in USCIS. I have heard that after that you can try to reopen your case and try to solve the case, but of course, DO NOT DO ANY MISTAKE AGAIN OR YOUR CASE OR PETITION IS OVER. I repeat you, consult with an attorney, I'm not pretty sure, but please HURRY UP! OR EVERYTHING IS LOST. Immigration likes to assume that if you didn't filled out the I-751, they assume your case is weak or false, or maybe you or the person interested on GREEN CARD prefers to not to come to live here in the U.S. I think that maybe you and your wife are going to be appointed again to an interview in USCIS service center that you live closed from. I wish you my best wishes, PLEASE DO NOT SLEEP WITH YOUR CASE, I TELL YOU LIKE THE SAYING IN SPANISH, THE SHRIMP THAT GOES TO SLEEP, THE RIVER CURRENT DRAGS HIM AWAY!, THANKS

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionMY CASE IS STILL PENDING, NOW, WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN
Hello Guys, My case of I-751 of Removal Conditions is still pending. I have everything included the letter of extension of status, I already took the biometrics and the fingerprints. My case date is Feb 11th, 2009, so I called twice after the 6 months, the first one, they told me that I have to wait more, but it looks like there is no problem with nothing. Right away, it appeared a TOUCH ON THE SYSTEM, I have not had any touch since the next following day to my biometrics and fingerprints appoint in March. Now, on the secon call about 3 weeks ago, a person in customer service in USCIS, they generate like a kind of order of review directly to VSC, they answered me back an email stating that I have to wait about 90 days more and it is going to appear a NOA or a decision about my pending case. My case is fine, I sent out good evidence, I am not sure if I am going to be called to interview for this process. I had the first and only interview on July 31st of 2007 that is more than 2 years ago. My case has right now almost 7 months on September 11th. Now, if anybody can give me an insight, what is going to happen? I have heard that the most of the people are not appointed to an interview, or anybody think that I can get the 10 year green card in a few months? Please I want to read any comments, suggestions, recommendations, insight about what could happen if I am going to be called to an interview or if I'm going to receive my green card in a few months, or any kind of other idea that is possible in this scenario? PLEASE REPLY ME BACK ASAP SO I CAN GET LESS WORRIED ABOUT MY CASE, THANKS FOR READING MY IDEAS AND BYE,
