K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsStill waiting on RFE??!??!?
Thank you Divine Mercy.......by the way......very cute family picture :) .........for your encouragement. To answer your question the RFE email doesn't tell you anything other than a hard copy letter was sent out supposedly the same day and in the hard copy letter it will tell you what evidence/information they want. When I sent a letter to USCIS over 2 weeks ago I also put with the letter what I think they might be looking for. I just contacted the state reps office so I hope we hear something soon. Thank you again for your encouraging words. May you continue to be blessed.

PS.....being from Philly YOU know our unpredictable weather......LOL.......I don't want my baby to get a cold as soon as he gets here if he has to come during the winter. ;)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsStill waiting on RFE??!??!?
Thank you Mrs. Akindel for your very encouraging words. I have been praying incessantly every single day and so has my Tani. That is the only thing that keeps me going through the day, prayer and knowing I have the deep love of my fiance. This has just been a very extremely frustrating process.......one I really was hoping we didn't have to go through but.........we're here and I know we will get through it. We just wanted to marry before wintertime here. Hopefully we can still do so. Thank you again. May you remain blessed. :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsStill waiting on RFE??!??!?
I'm at a lose for words now and beyond frustrated  I've been waiting for the infamous RFE since May 24th when I got the RFE email. As of today I've received NOTHING. Got more touches but no RFE. I've called several times requesting it to be resent and even set and went to an INFOPASS appointment and left there no more knowledgeable than I am now on when the RFE is to arrive. I was told by the agent at the local USCIS office to send a letter requesting it to be resent. I've done that and they have had my letter plus what I think they might be looking for, for 2 weeks now!!! And still nothing. Haven't had anymore touches since May 29th. Short of calling my state rep I just don't know what else to do. I guess we are suppose to just plain wait indefinitely until who ever is working on our case to get their act together...........I just feel helpless :crying:

Any USEFUL AND HELPFUL advice would be greatly appreciated. :help:

ok i am getting ready to put the docs together to register my car in Washington State. I just called the Licensing office and they said all they need is my vehicle registration from Canada. They do not need anything from Customs. Is this right? this doesnt sound right.... b/c if it was done this way, then why do I need to see Customs and go through all the hassle if all I need is my registration from canada. weird.

I didn't have to produce my Customs documents either. But I did have to make an appointment with their car import person. She had to look over the car and there was a form that had to be filled out before they would register the vehicle. But that's what they do in Florida. Make sure they get the mileage down as kms, though. They sure screwed that one up. mad.gif

I had to convert my KMs into miles, so they put down miles in their system. They didn't have KMs or something like that in their system. Anyway it worked so whatever!

Maybe that's how they do it in Wash state? Doesn't really sound right to me though, maybe the person you spoke to didn't know much about importing a vehicle

Hi, Do you guys plan on keeping your car in US? do you think you may be able to sell it being it's canadian model with KM instead of miles? My fiance plans to sell her car and then we will purchase another car here when she gets here.

I kept my car, but my Dad pointed out the resale value will probably go down here.... simply because the odometer is in KMs and most Americans don't know or want to know about anything else but miles, so I may have a hard time selling it. Even though miles is on there, albeit smaller LOL

My odometer is digital. When I had my car serviced at the Hyundai dealership down here, they told me that they just had to change a setting to get it to show miles instead of kilometers.

Maybe you can do that with your car too.

~ Catherine

If it's easy and won't cost a fortune, I'll definitely look into doing that! I figured they'd have to replace the whole thing and it would cost too much.

I heard that some Head Office manufacturers will not release this letter, until your Canadian Loan is paid out. They kind of hold it randsom lol!

First of all, do you need the compliance letter the day you cross the boarder with your K1? or do they let you through and you will need it within 90 days to register your car in your State?

If I need this letter the day that I cross, and Volvo is not willing to release the letter until I pay out my loan, how on earth will we qualify for a US loan for a car that is still registered in Canada?

Is there a grace period for the car import, or will I need it for that day?

I need to call Volvo tmrw....

I swear this car thing is becoming bigger and bigger sad.gif

If my car is less than 3 months old, is my bill of sale ok in any way?

Well they may let you through with the car and you can "import" it later.... but the problem about that is that you'll have to go all the way back to a POE to import it, as you need to get all the paperwork from US Customs.

I don't know about the loan thing, as when I called Mazda for mine they didn't ask a thing, like if I'd paid off my loan or anything.... they sent me the letter and my car wasn't paid off yet, I paid it a few months later.

Depsite the age of your car, old or new, you need a compliance letter.

Really??? I can come back to Canada and have a surgery and have my U.S. health provider pay for that??

How is that possible? If thats the case then that would be great as I do not want to lose my surgeons here in Montreal. We already don't have enough of them here in Quebec and the ones I have I trust with my life.

I meant more along the lines of emergencies. Your main/regular healthcare would stay in the U.S. - but honestly the U.S. medical system is great if you have coverage. They have the best Dr.'s in the world if you can afford it/have coverage. Canada loses amazing Dr.'s to the U.S. everyday I'm sure.

But who knows, maybe your U.S. health coverage provider would pay for an elective type non emergency procedure in Canada - heck it might even work out cheaper for them. You'd just have to check and look into it.

I agree with this. I've already seen so many pluses to the US healthcare system - if you have insurance obviously. But I notice the differences and understand now why so many Canadian docs leave to come here.

Just clarifying; I'm working up to a few days before I move, and will have my ROE and last paystubs, etc. I have kept lots, but my pay goes from the 1-15, and then 16- end of month, (30 or 31). It's been a while since I was collecting EI, and I can't remember if they only need my last pay info, or something else. My vacation pay is also part of my cheques, so I won't get a "payout" of that.

When I file for EI, I do it right away when I move, is that correct? Other than the ROE, they need the info on the I-94? Being how I'm moving in 4 weeks, I just want to be sure I have all the right info, before I'm Stateside. Ugh. And I thought waiting for approval, and the interview was hard. This is all too much like work! laughing.gif

Apply as soon as possible when you arrive in the US... I had to send the original of my ROE and a copy of the visa and I-94, plus fill out some forms (online).... You don't need paystubs, all info they need is on the ROE.

Ok, that's great. Thanks for the reply! I forgot to ask what letter is put in that box for reason to quit. I know my boss well enough that she wouldn't want to put the wrong one, in case it slows down or hinders my claim.

The letter "E" is on mine.... often people say on here that the ROE must state "quit to relocate to US to be married" but mine said no such thing and I was approved just fine

Did you send in the I-94?

Meh, I talked to Donna the first time a couple months ago, but I got a letter today from Service Canada basically saying that because I am a "non-immigrant" and do not have work authorization papers, that they cannot process my claim.

I don't think talking to a different person will help at this point in time. I will try and scan the letter when I can. I just wish they didn't wait 3 months to tell me this.

Just wondering........ if they were to continue collecting EI but didnt tell EI that they were moving to US, what would happen? would EI find out you've moved b/c you've notified (lets say) - your medical, no Canadian address, etc?

B/C a couple of years ago... my ex was dismissed from employment, he collected EI. But, he went to work for a cruise ship for 6 months. EI didnt find out about it, and he just made his phone calls and collected direct deposits.

Who knows if they'd find out, I'm sure they have their ways.... but the point is, IF they did you'd have to pay it all back. When you sign the cards you're declaring everything you state is the truth, and IF they found out they could garnish the money back as you lied. I don't think it's worth the risk getting caught, plus it's wrong to lie too and collect $$ you're not exactly entitled to.

Yes maam - happened that way for me. The way it worked out, the time between when the I-94 expired and the actual effective date of the EAD was only a couple weeks...so by the time I faxed the EAD in - they owed me a couple back weeks too- yippee! I got a job about a month after eceiving the EAD so once I'd received my first pay, I phoned in and cancelled it.

Oh I gotcha!! See my I-94 expired Feb. 13, so I figured my last payment came and went already. But yesterday I received a new report card for the last 2 weeks in Feb, and I have yet to fax in my EAD to them yet. Anyhoo, I did get a notice saying EAD was mailed to me so I should have it any day now.

Not sure how all that's going to fall into place when I have my interview and such. You have to apply from your US address, after your K-1 has been activated at the border.

You will need supporting documentation, but you do NOT need to wait until you get that documentation to apply. Apply as SOON as you land in the US and your K-1 is active, so you can claim EI for the full duration of the visa.

What documentation actually? I'm guessing this will be obvious?? wacko.gif

Don't apply while in Canada, but try to apply 1-2 days after your US arrival. You'll only get 90 days and the clock starts ticking the moment you arrive.

90 days to receive EI? or 90 days to apply for it? Just trying to figure out if I only have 3 months of it or not..

The documentation is your ROE from current employer and I-94 which you will get upon Visa activation. Also a copy of your Visa. They need the original ROE, but apply online first.

You get the EI for 90 days upon crossing the border, and they stop giving it to you after 90 days (they determine this date based on your I-94) until you receive your EAD or Green Card. Therefore you must apply ASAP upon USA arrival, or else you'll miss good days you are eligible to receive it.

Did anyone apply for EI before leaving Canada? Or are you supposed to apply after you move? I know you have to apply within 4 wks of last day worked. Not sure how all that's going to fall into place when I have my interview and such. Tim is coming up when it happens, ( I'm so happy!!) and then we'll fly back to the States together after about a week. Little early to tell though, exactly the play by play... laughing.gif

Don't apply while in Canada, but try to apply 1-2 days after your US arrival. You'll only get 90 days and the clock starts ticking the moment you arrive.

I was able to get mine online (end of feb???) a few years back!! Can't recall the exact site, and I'm soon out the door. I'm sure someone will speak up

You will receive a T4E. I was able to print it from this site last year.

You will need your EI Access code.

So I suppose the T4E is not yet available online? I just tried and it said I didn't have one, but I did have 1 payment of EI in 2008.

Wow, I just got a hard copy in the mail! Good stuff!

It was really good news for me too when I found out.... I can contribute to rent and bills!! I just transfer every few weeks. I believe trailmix started a wiki page for EI to answer FAQ's and there are websites for you to look at. Here are a few to get you started:
