CanadaWhat about after the move?
July, is there a Wegmans grocery store where you live? Wegmans gave me great comfort when I moved here, as I quickly found out they stock MANY Canadian food items that are not sold at any other store. It seems small but even little things like finding Tim's coffee or Arrowroot baby cookies at Wegmans made my day!

I think the most important thing is - listening. It might be different for guys, but I just wanted to talk about my feelings and if I felt homesick get it off my chest. Cry if I felt like it and not feel embarrased. Just talking helps SO much. Also I brought alot of pictures and stuff, even though I moved into his place it is now our place because I have all my stuff.

Did you hear about the blonde who was in Tim Hortons? She rolled up the rim on her coffee cup then started to jump up and down shouting "I've won a motor home! I've won a motor home!".

The manager of the store came out, perplexed. He said "Madam, you can't have won a motor home. We aren't giving away a motor home. We are giving away bikes and tents but no motor homes".

The blonde shouted out excitedly "I did! I did win a motor home! It says so right here!" and show him the rolled up rim.

The manager takes it and looks at it "See," she says, "Win a bagel!".

SO yesterday I went to buy hubby a chocolate bunny for Easter, and I went to Target to get something yummy to put out for him from the Easter Bunny (who we all know is REAL)..

Anyway, I'm down in the Easter aisle, and all I can find is baskets & toys, no candy or chocolate at all.. and I panic, and have one of those "holy cow I'm not in Canada anymore" moments, and I'm all discombobulated..

Do Americans not eat chocolate at Easter? Should I have had a bunny sent from Canada.. I left the store totally befuddled, and then went to the hair salon where the girls gently reassured me that Americans DO in fact eat chocolate bunnies but that Target was simply sold out! laughing.gif Ahh

There's your problem right there. You simply don't go to Target for food. At best, Target might be decent for toiletries and a few electronics items. The clothing, food and most other products are simply subpar. It's a lot like going down the chocolate aisle in Wal-Mart and wondering "where the good chocolate is." You're in freaking Wal-Mart! There is NO good chocolate!

If you want good chocolate (or any other item), go to a decent grocery store. Whole Foods, for instance, is a great example. If you're in Texas, Central Market is another fantastic choice.

Bottom line: if you shop at ####### stores, expect to find ####### products.

CanadaBest Ontario-NY border crossing for K-1
Hi Bauser,

I always cross at Queenston, never had a problem there. (Oakville-Philly) I activated my K-1 there at around 5am on a Saturday, it was a good time because no one else was there. I had to also import my car so it took a bit, but I find the staff there experienced in visa stuff since it's a busy border. Then I used my AP there last week, also went really well. So that is the one I would recommend, only because it's the only one I've crossed and also it went well for me.

As for your Dad, there shouldn't be a problem. To_Hope had her father also join her and she said it was no issue, Southern Canadian also had her father come with her and she said it was fine. You should have nothing to worry about!

Best of luck and look forward to hearing from you on the other side!

That is right - all they need is their uptodate rabies certificate. They used to ask for them all the time years ago, but the last 30 times I have crossed the border with my dog noone on Canadian or American side asks for the dog. The only thing they worry about entering the US is if you have dog food with you because that is contraband.

It appears there has been a change regarding dog food crossing from Canada into the US. This is from the U.S. Customs & Border Proctection site:

The U.S. Department of Agriculture recently relaxed rules for travelers entering the U.S. with pet foods that contain ruminant meat or meat by-products from Canada. This includes pet foods made from cattle, bison, deer, elk, caribou, moose or camels. Pet food containing meat from those animals are now allowed entry in the U.S.

Commercial pet food that lists lamb, sheep or goat in the ingredient list is still prohibited.

Thanks for that info! My sister is planning to come visit with her pups in the near future so I'll let her know that. She buys organic dog food so who knows if it has lamb in it.

What I wanted to know is - in your experience when is it best to get all of the paperwork together? Do they change the forms often enough to where I should wait - or would it be fine to begin prepping everything and putting together lease documents, photos etc now? We were told during the GC interview that we would have to send in "additional proof" once our 2 year GC was up.

I am getting excited here and I want to make sure everything is tight and put away for the big day.

Brad, I think the interviewer was talking about removing conditions to get your 10 year card, not citizenship. First you have to apply to remove conditions, then one year after that, you can apply for citizenship.

True...and a major rip-off as far as I'm concerned as you have to apply for ROC, and less than a year after that (if you count in the 90 days), you apply for citizenship, thus some MORE money.

Yeah really!

Here's a thought: Why don't they give us a 3 year conditional GC so we can just skip removing conditions and go straight to citizenship? It would streamline the process and help with the backlog of cases. They can make the conditional GC process equal to the removing of conditions process and huzzah! I should work for USCIS right? I think so kicking.gif

What, and lose the $$ they make off removing conditions from all of us? Not before hell freezes over! If they did that, think of all the $$ we'd SAVE and they'd LOSE. You should work for them and change the rules tongue.gif

and also what is the I 94 # (what is the I 94?) Is it the little cardboard paper in my passport?

I've read through the instructions on all the forms and this is what I still need cleared up. Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, you have to fill out the form 325 again. It should be different, since you live at a new address now.

K-1 is your class of admission.

Your I-94 is the paper they attached to your passport at the POE, yes.

Every University has an Ombudsman, their main function is to resolve conflict within the organization. What I don't agree with is the people who end up having truckloads of babies because of it. Sure one, okay two... but passing three gets ridiculous.

I find it ironic that the people who can't have kids go in for some treatment and come out of it with 2-8 kids.

Yay for defying nature./sarcasm

What bothers me more is when they call it a "miracle" when it is nothing close to miraculous.

I think she's a wackjob, no doubt. But I think that if you can't conceive naturally, it's OK to try other options like IVF. But obviously not implant 8 embryos at a time and if you are mentally/financially/emotionally able to care for the child. Not everyone can have children naturally and get a little bit of "help". This is just an extreme case.

Register at the Post Office - meaning you go in with your hubby and register as a resident of that address. It's a small 5x7-ish form I think and costs about $7-$8 now. Ask at the counter. Note down both your maiden name and married name if you plan to change it. The idea is that the PO apparently only delivers mail to the registered residents. In theory - but sometimes I get junk for other people still.

Do this in the week or 2 after you move. I heard about the need to do this when I visited the SSN office and the lady said - we can't mail your SSN to you unless you are a registered mail recipient at that address.

Frankly for the small amount of money it's peace (and piece innocent.gif ) of mind that your mail is going to get to you during this stressful period

Good one, I forgot about that and didn't get my mail for the first month I was here! That was SO annoying.

I love all these stories.

A few years back Jared had come to visit me at my parent's house. You know how it is when you don't see each other often..the FIRST thing you think about after about 5 minutes is.."so can..we ..do it now?"

Well after saying hello and how are you to my parents, I took him into my bedroom and onto the floor! (sorry this is a little racy now that I think about it...)

Well, as the action is happening my mum is knocking on the door, "Can I get Jared something to eat?"

and I'm a little out of breath and I'm like, "No, he's fine right now.."

She doesn't take that for an answer and continues to ask about 5 questions and by the fifth question I just yell,

"Ma! PRIVACY PLEASE!"

and she starts to laugh and goes away.

Needless to say she killed the moment as I was embarrassed she knew exactly what was going on by that point.

Oh my gawd, that's funny! And you're gutsy girl to be doing that with your parents right in the next room, I'm too scared! HAHAHA

Ahh had to bump this thread... so I don't know very much about golf or brands but I was trying to call a member to tell him that I found his golf bag which was branded: Titleist.

So when I call him I was telling him the brand and I said.... TITLIST.

Yep. Only I didn't realize what I had said until after the fact and after the awkward silence coming from the other end of the line. Where's the hole where I can crawl into? Someone get me a shovel.

rofl.gif I always see the pros on TV wearing hats that say titleist and always wondered how to pronounce it!
