CanadaWanting to visit fiance in Florida while K1 is pending? What do I need?
QUOTE (domegirl1978 @ Mar 30 2009, 09:53 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Somehow I ALWAYS get asked the question: WHO are you going to visit when I say visiting to the agent.

I obviously want to be truthful so I guess I will have to just take my chances of possibly being dragged to the back room....lol

I hope it won't be an issue though. I plan on going with alot of stuff to back me up on the fact that I am returning just in case. Doesn't mean some #### won't ruin my vacation though. UGH.

You'll be fine, but tell the truth.... You don't want to get caught in a lie, and lying can lead to your denial.

When I went with my Canadian fiance for his pics, OMG, it was entertaining. Went to a photo store in the local shopping center and we told him 2x2 or 50x50. He didn't believe us and went through his little notebook of various country passport sizes. Then, when the guy finally found the proper sizes for the US, he kinda chuckled. He was amazed that we actually knew the size that it was supposed to be. whistling.gif We had done our research BEFORE going in to the store. Oh, well. We got the pics - finally.

BTW, if you think about how many pictures have to be sent in... 2 for USCIS... 3 for Med exam... 2 for interview... there are a lot of files sitting somewhere with his pics on them. Guess that's for security? To make sure that it is the same person every time??? Hmmm...

wacko.gif Wait until you file AOS, there you send in 6 more photos. I wonder what they do with them all.

And if you think about it, does the immigration officer sit there and take out their ruler to measure the pics? I mean by the naked eye, I bet they look the same size and they don't bother to measure to check.

What?

Please point out another thread I'm currently posting in where I'm taking out "whatever" on "whomever" today. I'm doing quite well today thanks.

And, do you not see every one else agreeing with me and why I think her post was silly in the first place and uncalled for? I was sticking up for those who do what she was criticizing. I never realized that was a negative to stick up for people.

Ok, back to being the "typical" and "stereotypical" Canadian now...love, sunshine and gummy bears please.

Pass the gummy bears.

I actually see her point. Plus I think if someone wants to start a new thread they should - it just doesn't matter.

Okay that makes you the first.

So I guess I'm going to start complaining about what I don't like on this board and see the reactions I get from fellow posters.

I also guess The Vent thread is pointless then, right? Suppose we should dismantle it. No need to keep all vents in one place, let's make a new topic every time someone wants to talk about something they don't like.

OMG could you imagine if we did that... got rid of the vent thread and started complaining individually..... that would be insane, the number of new threads started daily..... we all vent alot laughing.gif

In an email, I too have titled stuff, "Quick question". Sometimes, in the right format it can be efficient.

In a forum though such as this, where people come to see if maybe they have similar questions, concerns or situations etc., I find a Quick Question topic useless and inefficient. Upon reading it, I have no idea if I have the same "quick question" as this person. And yes, of course I can click on it, however, seriously, imagine if all these topics had the topic, "Quick Question"??? Would not be very efficient.

I didn't think it was hypocritical, because I wasn't posting about people who ASK quick questions (I INVITE it!!!!!), if people were to actually read my posts before making comments, my complaint was having it in the TOPIC title was not very effective.

Apparently, I am not allowed to post/complain about useless stuff smile.gif

I don't think the topic title is important. Whatever it says, if it's a quick question or whatever we are all here to help and what the topic says won't help or hinder someone from clicking on it and replying if they choose to. I don't think the topic is important in the grand scheme of things.

You can complain about useless stuff, that's what the vent thread is for laughing.gif

LOL the Montreal Police have been wearing funky clothes for awhile now, on purpose. They are without a contract and are doing odd things like wearing street clothes to work, and are purposely letting drivers away without tickets so the police dept doesn't collect the $$. They are doing this to try and pressure the city to give them a new contract. But it is funny to see the cops wearing pajama pants and the like

Wow! That was super fast!

You won't have any trouble using your AP, Jill. The same thing happened to me. I was in Canada when the approval and my gc came. I should have had my husband courier it to me (except I didn't trust them) because when I crossed the border they made me miss my flight. Link to longer version of the story. Stupid Lewiston. I hate crossing there, and I keep telling my Dad not to, but he won't listen. mad.gif

Anyway, my point is, they can't tell if your gc has been issued or not. They just process you through like they would normally. That is, if they haven't forgotten you're there.

Thanks Krikit! It was fast wasn't it?

So this morning went SO well, got to the border round about 7, was a bit busy so waited 1/2 hour. There was one guy ahead of me PISSED because he had a truck of horses and Canada wouldn't let him in, not sure what the US border guard was going to do about it. This other lady's Visa expired 1 year ago and she was trying to use it, he wouldn't let her in so she started hollering. Anyhoo then it was my turn and the nicest gentleman processed my AP, we chatted about Philly as his daughter lives there. The only thing is that he gave me back both copies, I know he's supposed to keep one but whatever, my last time using AP! And like you said, they couldn't tell my GC was issued as they didn't mention a thing. Happy to be back here!

Yeah I'm a little confused about the whole AOS/Medical thing. I know as a K-1 we don't have to get a new medical done, but we need a form that we don't have... the I-693A or something like that? And we need to find a civil surgeon that will fill out the form without actually charging us to get a new medical done? I've head that some people get away with just sending in the vaccination supplement form from the medial... but what if you have a shot that isn't completed yet because of time constraints (ie. Gardisil). I'm assuming you need to prove you completed the cycle for AOS? Bah. Confusing. The concern here is that I can't actually get my last shot until mid-august (It's due on the 6th but that's the day of the wedding! so after the wedding and honeymoon), so that would give me a grand 3 weeks to put the medical forms together before my 90 days run out. Am I pushing it a little?

I'm pretty sure there is a civil surgeon in Texas that you can send your vaccine worksheet to and he will transcribe it for like $20 or something like that. I have to do a search and try to find the info. I'm pretty sure you give him the copy of the vaccines you get at the medical (they give you a copy to keep).

You can always get the Gardisil shot a week or two before it's due as well. Doesn't have to be exactly on the date.

True... I'm just scared there will be some funky adverse effects and I'll be walking down the aisle on my wedding day with a giant rash on my right arm... Have you finished the cycle yet? Any weird side effects? The only thing I've had is a sore muscle on the arm where the injection was. I wonder if its better to get it earlier than you should or a little late. I was a week late on the second shot but that was the Dr.'s fault (she's always on vacation, must be nice...)

But I'll look up that doctor, thanks! I don't even have the visa yet so I think I'm jumping ahead of myself a little... But I like knowing what to expect next.

Just so you know, I didn't do the civil surgeon route, I just sent my vaccination worksheet. Since my vaccinations were all up to date, I did not get an RFE for the 693. It seems that most people get approved w/o the 693 as long as your up to date with vaccines.

This co-workers son of mine, she wanted to set us up years ago.... well he lives at home at age 30 with no job, he impregnated this girl he hooked up with, not his GF. So when she's 7 months pregnant, he impregnants a different girl. So how he has 2 daughters not far apart in age, and here's the kicker - both women don't know about the other. QUOTE (Sprailenes @ Apr 8 2009, 05:46 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Haha that was my reason for not wanting kids too Rhiann. I used to tell people: "Raising kids in this world is abuse"

When I found out I was pregnant at 19 I was going to give him up to a homosexual couple.

I figured I could do something nice with something that was unplanned and unwanted. Then I looked at the ultrasound, I was told not to look but I did. Something just clicked, and it wasn't me thinking that I could change the world with one person or anything like that. What was I feeling all of a sudden? Pure love. I can't explain it. I just fell in love and I just suddenly got the urge to protect, nurture and love this being inside of me. So I decided to keep him. I don't regret it at all. He looked like a peanut in that picture, but that was my peanut.

My mother was amazing during this time too, we explored all of my options including termination. She had not one ounce of judgement towards me and she was truly my rock during that time and the years ahead. I guess it was then that I began to fully understand my mom.

My only regret is that I failed with the family aspect of it... I always wanted to get that right, but after two years of fake love his father and I decided to stop playing house and part ways. He hasn't talked to Ethan since.

Sometimes things happen, and they change us... for the better. But I can respect the decision to not want to have kids, because I have been there and I have had that mentality. But just never say never because you really "never" know.

Awwww that's such a sweet story, Nev!! Think about how life would be so different without Ethan.

Sentinel, your choices are yours and glad to hear your wife knows how you feel. My last relationship before this one, I was in for 2 years. About 6 months into, we started talking about stuff like kids. I made it clear I wanted a family, he made it clear he did not. For the same reasons as you in fact. It hurt me but I thought he might change. So we dated 1.5 years longer, I hoped he'd change. Of course, I learned now you don't change stuff like that. He was adamant about not having kids that he was getting a vasectomy at age 26. The day I found that out I broke up with him and never looked back. There are some things you accept in your partner but I'd never accept that. Not too long after we broke up, I met my US love and here I am today biggrin.gif fate works in funny ways!

Hello!! Welcome smile.gif
I'm new too, and over the past couple months had been debating back and forth over what route to take. I'm also from Ontario, and my b/f lives in California. We thought about me just going there, getting married, and filing for AOS, but after some great feedback here, and some further research, we are going the K-1 route. As people have already said, going there without a visa with the intent to marry and stay is totally illegal and visa fraud, and you really have to think about whether it's worth the risk of being deported! All in all, in the future, once you ARE there and settled, I think it'd be much nicer knowing you did things the 'right' way.

Good luck to you, whatever you choose smile.gif Keep us updated on how things go! It sounds like your time lines and my time lines are quite similar (though we'll be processed at different centres). I'm hoping to be able to move around Christmas time, or shortly before or after (to avoid the insanity of traveling at Christmas. lol) *crosses fingers*

Going to the USA and getting married if fine, as long as u head back to canada when ur time is up

True, but it seemed pointless to drop everything in Canada to go to the US and get married only to not be able to stay anyway... either way you have to leave the US and be in Canada at some point, so with the K1 you can start the paperwork process right away if you're not already married. That was my theory at least. Get this ball rolling... lol We can visit each other in the mean time.

That's why we went the K1 route... be apart while engaged instead of apart while married. That route sounded good at the time... I'm really starting to think we should have gone another route for our particular situation. But, we're doing K1 and we're sticking with it. We're so stinking close; it's insane to change now! headbonk.gif

That is exactly why we chose the K-1 route too, kind of sucks that I won't be able to work for 3 months but thats why I've got plenty of time in Canada to prepare for that, and EI sure will help too.

offtopic45vn.gif Sorry, but you can get EI??? I thought people don't qualify if they -quit- their job (which is what i'd be doing to move there)? sorry... I should probably read the 'EI' thread, but this caught me off guard... whistling.gif

"Clever one that she is, she saw that the NOA2 is good until Sep 09, she said she could schedule the interview in Sep 09 and then have 6 months to enter the USA which would give her until Mar 2010."

She can't "schedule" The interview, it's not your choice. They assign you the interview date, you don't get to pick it.

CanadaWhat about after the move?
July, is there a Wegmans grocery store where you live? Wegmans gave me great comfort when I moved here, as I quickly found out they stock MANY Canadian food items that are not sold at any other store. It seems small but even little things like finding Tim's coffee or Arrowroot baby cookies at Wegmans made my day!
