Awww have fun! I'm not a big camping person myself, every summer I used to go to Banff "camping" but it was in my family's winnebago, not a tent.

It's horrible and disrespectful, their "defense" is that they were not booing America, they were booing Boston but that is so stupid!! Bob Gainey made a plea to the fans to please stop and respect both anthems, not sure what happened last night if they behaved themselves

think it all depends on the mood of the person asking. For safety's sake - why not have his employer write a note just as the Cdn SO's do when they go to visit the USA?

Good luck.

Same situation as me, my fiancee flew thru Pearson one way in order to drive the Uhaul back to the US, I gave him a copy of my K-1 just in case but they didn't ask anything at all.

This is not a good idea I don't think - because you need to apply for AOS/AP/EAD at the same time as it's $1010. I don't know if you can first apply for EAD without applying for AOS, I don't think you can do this.

Yes you can apply for EAD before AOS, but when approved it will expire concurrent with the I-94 (at a cost of $340)... Since it could take 60-90 days to receive it, the chances of getting it before it is ready to expire is slim.

So that's why you should apply for all 3 at the same time, why wait and then pay $340 extra when you probably won't even get it before it expires.

Thanks for the advice. Trying to get organized. Doing it all at once sounds like a good idea. Applying for our marriage lis. today. SSN next week. The situation with when things expire and when my Fiance can work is a little fuzzy. Some people have told me he can work with the K-1 and others say he needs to apply for the EAD first. We have only been here a week so we have time. Again Thanks!!

They were probably referring to the supposed "WORK AUTHORIZED" stamp that used to be given out at POEs.... maybe they're an urban legend, no one I know has ever gotten one, I don't think they do that anymore. If he wants to work, he must apply for EAD. Simple as that, no way around it. So I definitely recommend applying all at once! You don't need the SSN to apply for AOS.

Ok so lets me get this straight... When you file AOS you don't have to include prof of a bonafied marriage but you do if/when you have your AOS interview? I was under the impression that you had to include this information when you first file. But don't you need an SSN to get a US bank account and things of that nature? (sorry for completely hijacking your thread Suzuki!)

Yes, when you send in your AOS package, you only send your certified marriage cert. But no bills, lease, etc. If you get called for an interview, then you must bring proof then. Or if you're lucky and get approved w/o an interview, you'll still need that proof to remove conditions

Yes you need an SSN (most often) to get a US bank account, but you should definitely have your SSN by the time you're called for an interview, that's usually months after applying for AOS. However, you don't need an SSN for most things of proof, such as joint lease, bills, health insurance, etc.

CanadaI LOVE MY MIL!!!
My MIL is a pretty cool lady, she calls me her daughter now and is so kind and loving to me.... when I moved here she'd call me often and ask if she could take me around, show me the neighborhood and stuff she's sweet.... The only thing I could say is that when she found out I was vegetarian she was shocked.... I guess she never met anyone that doesn't eat meat before.... she asked me if being vegetarian causes blindness (as I wear contacts) and she asked what on earth I eat.... I explained to her you don't need to eat meat to get protein, iron, etc there are many other forms of food to get that are non-meat.... she was and still is flabbergasted. So everytime we go over for dinner, she always makes me this gigantic salad. I mean it would last me 4 meals. It's so big and she throws every vegetable in the world into this salad, thinking ALL I eat are veggies. One time they were all eating pasta, regular old pasta sauce and I was like "Ummmm I'll eat that!" She said you will? But it's pasta with sauce! laughing.gif Yes, there's no meat in that I'll have some! She said "I thought vegetarians only ate vegetables" OH LORDY!! Now I bring sometimes a veggie lasanga over, a homemade soup, I'm trying to introduce her to other foods.... But besides that she truly is a sweet woman!

You are having "relation" with the girl. You are having an intimate relationship with her, so much that you feel perosnally responisble for her wellbeing. THAT would be my problem if I was in your fiance's shoes.

The fact that you dated/saw/whatever with her up until you met your fiance is probably a hard enough pill to swallow for her. The fact that you cannot break ties with this woman is moreso a slap in the face.

Try stepping back and imagining if it was your fiance who couldnt let someone go and had dated them right before meeting you, then you found out that she was still talking to him, goign on trips with him ect ect... now, what would you need to "be happy again" and go from there

Good Luck

Cant' you people get it? I no longer have relationship with her! I cut it long time ago. I am just making it easy for her to forget about me.

That doesn't matter. The point we are trying to make is, the damage is done!!!!! Once the trust is gone, it's very difficult to get it back. So it's a little late now.

Lying or hiding anything about your involvement with another woman from your future wife is a big no-no. Exactly right. Once the trust is gone, it's over. My ex did the same thing to me, got together with his ex behind my back, I found out. Gave him a 2nd chance (STUPIDLY) and I ended up dumping his pathetic azz, the trust never came back. She has every right to be pi$$ed as hell at you. Lies don't make for a good relationship. I remember about 2 months after I moved my last item was crossed off and I felt so happy, the last item was getting the tags on my car! Just apply literally right after your wedding and you get your hands on the certified marriage cert... not sure how long it will take for NJ but for PA I got it 5 days after!! Fill out all the forms beforehand, prepare everything then as soon as the cert comes send in the package.... AP will hopefully come soon! I doubt you'll get it earlier even with an infopass appt, apparently it needs to be a real emergency, which it's not in your case. And keep in mind the fees for AOS anyway, tack of a few grand of lawyer fees on top of that you'll be flat broke LOL!

I didn't even read the guides or get familiar with AOS until after I arrived and married, I didn't want too much information overload!! But yes definitely read the guides, practice filling them out, etc. You don't need any proof for the AOS package except marriage cert, the proof will be needed later for the interview if you get called for an interview. Trust us all, save your $$!! Think of the nice family vacay you can take with that $$, sorry but what a rip off the lawyer is charging you!

Oh girl, trust me, it's a piece of gateaux! If I can do it, anyone can!! I read the guides a few times, looked at some sample forms, in my opinion it's easier than filing for the K-1! One of the apps, AP or EAD is only 1 page! Save your $$, do it yourself! We are always here for you to answer questions, after reading the guides you probably won't have toooo many questions, even if you do who cares! Ask away, most of us did this entire process without a lawyer and look where we are today!!

Also to note, I asked some AOS questions on the Canada forum, you don't have to venture into the wild jungle out there!

Do they send you info re: as to whom and where you go in Montréal? Anything one brings to this appointment...?

Sorry re: the tonne of questions... must be informed so as to maintain sanity... haha

Yes it's a pain, they used to have more doctors that provided immigration medicals but for whatever reason, they've whittled it down to a few cities. Causing lots of extra $$ for those who need to travel. If you have your MTL case # you can make the appt.... I know some people go to Montreal and do the medical one day and the interview a few days later.... Yes they do send you the doctor info, but if you do a search on here you'll find the Doc in Montreal who does it.... I don't know as I went in Toronto.... You have to bring passport photos, your case #, passport, $$, etc. to the medical but there is more detailed info that you will find out.

I did not/am not changing my name. I just find that old fashioned, I much prefer my own last name to his.... When we have kids, my last name will be their middle name (it's that type of name that would be OK for a middle name) and that's that. Plus, the thought of all that paperwork ugggg no thank you! CanadaWhat we do to keep our families close
The times I get the saddest is when I know my loved ones are doing something and I'm not included. Like when Mom has my sister, bro in law and 2 dogs over for Sunday dinner, I feel so lonely and left out. Also when my friends are having a girls night out, when I find that stuff out it hurts. I know I'm not being purposely excluded but I feel that way sometimes.

CanadaWhat we do to keep our families close
Well I'm used to living away from my Dad, as I moved from Montreal to Oakville at age 15, so it was always visits every 2-3 months with him. But Mom, we are so close as can be. When I moved out from her home into my own apt, we still spoke daily and saw eachother for tea or dinner 1-2 times per week. When she found out I fell in love with an American, she couldn't be happier for me. She wanted me to find someone special to treasure me, and loves her son in law. She never once made me feel bad for leaving, she always said follow your heart. I have unlimited LD so we talk every single night for 1/2 hour or so, since I moved not one day passed without us talking. I send her cards too, just "I love you" cards or thinking of you. She sends me alot of postcards. She looks at my photos on FB. Tomorrow will be my first visit home and she is thrilled, she has visited me here once. I tell her everything, she's so awesome. We can literally talk about anything and it's like talking to my BFF.

My sister, we're not superclose because she lived in Montreal when I moved to Ontario, so we're also used to living apart. But, we talk about 5 days per week, FB, e-mail, we do keep in touch well. I think keeping in touch is the best remedy for homesickness, I haven't felt terribly homesick since I moved and I think it's because of the constant communcation and planning to see one another. It keeps me going!
