I'm on both sides with this one. I can understand having it for long trips, but I've seen a 2 year old who screams and points at the stupid thing any time they get in the car, even if its just a 5 minute drive! That drives me insane! Since when are parents so afraid to say no to their toddlers???

See, that's the sick thing in my opinion. The pointing and the " I need this mommy" act. laughing.gif I hope when I have children I can stick to my guns and say no. I know I do this with my dogs at the moment laughing.gif
(although there is really no comparison there haha)

I hope so too... my parents told me I was a hellion on wheels as a child. Seriously, I threw the worst tantrums (maybe it's because I'm a redhead LOL). One time in the grocery store checkout I demanded a chocolate bar. My Mom calmly told me no, it's too close to suppertime. I pitched myself on the floor and started convlusing in hysterics, all the other patrons were GLARING at my Mom. I played limp and she couldn't pick me up, she said it was the most horrible thing ever. I feel so bad, I hope I don't get repaid by having hellions myself!

Sweet lord have people here never been in the wild?!

Would they die without food and drink for a few hours??? without direction? without loud music? without buying something????

I always wonder this. There is such a big to do about anything and everything these days. You see parents bring their kids to a zoo and they come out with ice cream and 10 toys.

You know what else bugs me along these lines.... And I aplogize to anyone in advance if they do this but it bugs me.... when people have those TV/DVDs in their car to entertain their kids on road trips or whatever.... when I was a kid, we sang songs, played I spy, etc.... now they plop the kids in the car and turn on the telly. What about other forms of entertainment besides mindless TV/movies!!

When I was a kid, we used to drive up to my grandmothers house near Lake Tahoe from Los Angeles. It was about an 8 hour drive. We would play games and stuff for the first couple of hours. Then at about the 90 minute mark, the walkmen would come out. After about 2.5 hours, we would be fighting to the point where my dad would pull over and get out the duct tape to deliniate the physical border in the backseat. After fighting for another hour about who actually controlled the piece of the backseat that was covered by the tape, we would pull over again and my dad would make a new border, complete with a 8" buffer zone in between that he declared was his area and anyone that went on it would get spanked.

Point is..... a DVD player in the car would have saved me from getting smacked in the mouth by my dad several times over the years tongue.gif

He'll be fine. Practice will help him. I had him in short track speed skating when he was 6 and 7 and thats the extent of his on-ice skating and he was really good at that at the time. But he's 10 now so it's been a while and speed skating and ice skating are two very different things. It's really my fault and stupidity for throwing him to the dogs today without really putting him on the ice beforehand to condition his legs a little more. You live, you learn. I feel really bad. Its really my issue, not his, he had fun. But I still feel bad. I need a couch to lay on and a therapist. laughing.gif

I don't know where they would have it. I'd say my brother is the go to the courthouse type or elope. But I think Stacey's family would want a larger wedding. I will be interesting how it all pans out.

Chris and I had planned a bigger wedding in Seattle. After 3 weeks of fighting about details we decided to elope and get married a year earlier. laughing.gif Sometimes (and just sometimes) I wish we had waited and had a bigger wedding.

That's how I feel... I love how we just had a small ceremony, none of the typical wedding drama. Even though I should be looking forward to our wedding next year, I already dread it. Because Glen's family is like you shouldn't invite this cousin, you should invite this person, my friends here want me to have the wedding in Canada, weddings cause so much drama I'm not into that. I'm doing it more for our families than myself, I could care less about the party and all that stuff.

heart.gif Coincidence?

I get this email from my mom this morning, she sent it to my brother, his girlfriend, Chris and I:

Good morning all,

Just wanted to say that I got chinese food this week and got a fortune cookie stating:

Soon wedding bells are in a family member's future.

Then I get this email from my brother this morning:

Well mom -- that is pretty funny because as of last night Stacey and I are now engaged. That has to be the strangest coincidence ever.

I'm over the moon for them. My brother and Stacey have been together for 5 years. And for the last 3 years my brother has swore that he doesn't believe in the institution of marriage, that its a sham, marriage is only a piece of paper blah blah blah.

I actually joked when I was home, that when they come visit in August, I'll arrange a sunset wedding for them on the beach.

That's sooooo cute, a real coinkydink if you ask me!! Would the wedding be in Edmonton? A Hawaii wedding would be awesome!

I got 2 bags of baked old dutch dill pickle chips, 4 bags of bits and bytes different flavours, jumbo bag of wine gums, 6 boxes of KD, 20 pairs of my favourite socks I can't find anywhere but Zellers, BBQ peanuts, hmmm what else. Failure to properly use an AP when departing the US can result in a technical "abandoning" of an alien's Permanent Residency application and further result in the denial of re-entry into the United States.

I thought you use AP when re-entering the US, not departing? I'm confused.

I'm heading off back to the land of palm trees and coconuts in a few minutes.

When I checked in this morning, I managed to snag a seat in the 6th row behind first class (meaning more leg room). And no one is booked to sit next to me. Oh please let this be the case when I get on the plane.

On the flight over, I was booked in the exit row near the aisle. Meaning tons of leg room. Just before we leave, this guys walks up and asks is we can trade seats, since I'm sitting next to his wife in the other aisle and their coming home from their honeymoon. Wifey-poo is looking all doe-eyed at me. I'd have to be the tin-man to say no. So I trade seats. I didn't even ask where he was sitting.

Window seat, next to the mom and nanny with twin 8 week old babies and a two-year old from hell. Though the family was nice and babies were cute, it was not a relaxing flight.

That was nice of you, I'd do the same! I'm a sucker. The worst flight I ever had was right next to the loo.... it was stinky and everytime someone would go in I'd cringe.... so nasty.... have a safe and good flight!

Thanks everyone! I am so happy, I forgot to say something which I wanted to originally. The thing that makes me so happy is that Glen could have put a ring on his CC like a year ago. But he is so financially responsible, which I love. He never charges anything, and if he does it's paid off ASAP. His attitude is if you can't pay cash for it, don't buy it. Obviously not meaning like a car or house but other purchases that are deemed "not necessary" like clothes, jewels, etc. So he saved up for awhile for the special ring, and paid cash for it. That's what I love about him and makes me proud, is his financial smartness. I'd prefer it be paid off than put on plastic LOL. I never cared about the "ring" because I was with the man I love and that's all that matters. But now, I'm super happy to have it laughing.gif

I did almost start crying when I hugged my little sister goodbye.. she is a little lady now and fun to hang out with.. i wish I lived closer so we could go on shopping trips together etc... sad.gif

before I left the airport my mom said they left us a gift and I was supposed to open it with the hubster but I couldn't wait and opened it when I got home tongue.gif... somehow they had found out where we had gotten our car repaired and paid half of what was left of the balance... I feel bad for them paying it because they already spent a lot of money while they were here taking us out to eat and buying me a new set of pots and pans etc....

I really hope that maybe I can fly up to Canada later this year... we will have to see how things go..

Deadpool, you have insulted us! We consider her VERY important and most of us have ties to Britain. Most of my friends do not have any ties to America whatsoever.

Ahem, Your Majesty, you must forgive Deadpool as he knows not what he says. Send her victorious, happy and glorious, long to reign over us! GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!

Maybe out there in the good ole West where you live you don't notice an influence, but many of us here on this board are god damn Englishwomen and Englishmen.

Do you know how I know this? I' will give you an example. Look at the types of food people put on the dinner table. I came to live in NJ and realized no one ate roast beef dinners and potatoes. No one had Yorkshire puddings or meat pies. These are things many Canadians eat!

My issue wasn't with tradition. Believe it or not, there are many American traditions and going beyond that, there are religious traditions as well.

My point was that the Queen has very little power and say in Canadian government and the average Canadian's way of life. Royalty was, at one time, very powerful and had a large amount of influence. In today's world, the Queen is little more than a figurehead (with no real power to speak of) and the British monarchy, as a whole, exists more for tradition than anything else (unless you count the occasional tabloid story).

I really don't see how my outlook on this matter is, in any way, insulting. If nothing else, I consider myself standing up for the rights of Canadians. Why should the UK have any input in Canadian affairs? Canada is its own nation, with its own laws and people. Canadians are not "British subjects" but citizens of their own country. They answer to Canada and Canada only. Maybe some traditions from the UK are popular, but tradition and governing power are two very different things.

Take it from one who knows, the royal family of Britian is in more than the occasional tabloid story, they are in the British tabloids almost weekly. The interest in them generates headlines and gossip that never ends.

Do you know how I know this? I' will give you an example. Look at the types of food people put on the dinner table. I came to live in NJ and realized no one ate roast beef dinners and potatoes. No one had Yorkshire puddings or meat pies. These are things many Canadians eat!

Here here! My grandparents are from Ireland and Scotland, lots of British influences in our household. Growing up, meat potatoes and yorkshire pudding was every Sunday if not more!

Marilyn, you can so just write back non-citizen and you'll not have to serve. good.gif

I'm off to Edmonton tomorrow. Got a crazy good last minute deal today on Alaska Air. My family is super-excited. I think in the past 7 months they forgot all the drama I cause. One week is just enough time to remind them. yes.gif

Just stopping in for a quick hello. Did a lot of shopping today with my mom and now we're getting ready to go see a movie. I introduced my mom to DSW shoes... my mom loves shoes... but not like regular girlie shoes... she loves sneakers! laughing.gif So she bought us matching pairs. tongue.gif

Then I took her out to Philly for a real steak sandwich at Jim's and she loved it! Its been a busy day indeed.

We're off to see the Watchmen. Byebye!

That's great! Glad to hear you're having fun!! My Mom really wants to try a Philly cheesesteak, we were too busy at Christmas but I promised her in the summer I'll take her into the city.

Enjoy the movie!

Good morning all! Thanks for pouring coffee this morning charles! I'll check before I post this week. Gene is in a training class at a facility about 5 min. from home all this week and so he'll be leaving at about 7 am or so. I usually post after he's left for work in the morning so I'll be late this week. If someone wants to post coffee that would be lovely, if not, I'll post when I log on.

So glad to hear that you're neighbours have left...or are they just quiet Em?

We had a lovely weekend this weekend. The weather was spectacular. We took a day trip out to a small German town a few hours away on Saturday and geocached, walked around in some antique stores and have a lovely lunch at the Vintage Restaurant (1874) at a local winery. Very lovely.

My week will be all mixed up this week due to Gene leaving later. I love the man dearly, but my schedule will be all out of whack this week!

Enjoy your day!

good to see you, i thought since there's been no coffee yet that something happened to you.
i spent all weekend painting the baby room. dead.gif

Awwww you're having a baby Charles!! Well not you, but you know what I mean.
