The one thing I don't like about Custom House is they ask for a ton of personal information. They want two forms of ID. I'm not going to surrender that! They're not a bank or any entity that I trust. Maybe that sounds somewhat paranoid, but all I have to go on is a website that says stuff -- there are no physical locations.

It makes sense though they need alot of personal info, to avoid money laundering and such. It seems to be a pretty reputable company, I've had no problems and don't know how I would have transferred my $$ otherwise!!

These stories make me so mad. But, this girl is married to an American citizen. So I don't understand why he can't just file a petition for her as his wife? The story mentioned something to that effect, but in one mysterious sentence. LOL.

Maybe because she's illegal, they can't apply? But you'd think USCIS would bend the rules based on extenuating circumstances or on compassionate grounds. How can they treat every case by the book?

Yes, that's me!!

Have you seen the Oakville stuff on Facebook? Under the "You Know You're From Oakville When....." was this one:

I AM FROM OAKVILLE
(clears throat)

HEY…
I'm not from Mississauga, Burlington, or the "surrounding GTA".
I live in a nice house, with a white picket fence, and have a pool in my backyard.
And unfortunately, I don't know Jimmy, Sally or Suzy from Oakville,
Although I'm sure I could find SOMEONE who does…

I go to private school, not public.
I speak 5 different languages, not just 2.
And I pronounce it "CHATE" not "CHAT", "CHATE"!

I can proudly say that my parents pay for the majority of everything I own.
I believe in house parties, NOT bush parties.
BMW's, NOT Hondas,
And that "The Beaver" is truly an OK name for a newspaper!

The "Ghetto" of Oakville IS Kerr street,
Having to take the Lexus over the Jag 'cuz it's raining outside IS okay
And it is pronounced "BRONTEE" NOT "BRONTÉ".

Oakville is the second richest per capita town in Canada,
The only town that actually lives in a bubble,
And the best part of southwestern Ontario!
I AM from OAKVILLE!!!

laughing.gif I have not seen that before... huh.gif maybe I'm not from Oakville after all! laughing.gif

Hi Stiggy,

Sorry to hear of your troubles. I understand it's hard for parents to let their children 'go', but that's what happens when you grow up! You don't stay in the same town forever. My Mom misses me so much but she is thrilled I met such an amazing man who treats me great and makes me so happy, and he happens to be American! I'm sure she wishes I married someone 'local' too but life doesn't work out that way. I feel blessed to have the love and support of my family, without that moving would have been so much more difficult. Hopefully in the end they will reach out an olive branch because not being a part of your life would be a shame. Best of luck rose.gif

hehe yes you do have to subscribe to DVR, it's very handy. Basically it's like a VCR with no tape - you can record all of your favourite shows if you're out or busy, or just don't want to watch commercials like me. So I record my shows, and watch them later or next day. It's pretty great and you can record an insane amount of hours like 200 or so of TV. They are stored on your cable box.

Beaver tail? Is that like a bear's claw (a sugar coated pastry with almonds)? LOL

It's like deep fried pastry, sprinkled with a variety of choices.... for example, cinnamon sugar is the traditional BT flavour, it's shaped like a beaver tail!

It reminds me of my childhood, skating on the Rideau Canal and stopping for BT and hot cocoa !!
