well I got up early and ran 3 miles on the treadmill and did some weights......right now I am highly motivated......have you any suggestions for when you are not feeling that motivated...just want to be prepared just in case....but so far, so good!!!!!! I kicked all the junk food out of the house.......I know I am doomed if it is here. Keep the inspiration coming...it helps good.gif

Good for you! My motivation for not over-eating/snacking is pasting a magazine picture of a bikini model (with her head cut off, just her body) on the fridge and pantry. LOL so I look at that and I'll like hell no, I'm not eating those chips!! laughing.gif

Where did you go to school? Most school boards require vaccination records, you can obtain them from the board for a cost (depends on the board of course, I know Halton and Peel in Ontario have them)

Because we're planning on heading down to the US in less than two weeks, as soon as my US passport gets here, and she'll be coming over the border seperately from me as a visitor, and she doesn't think she'll make it across....which of course there is a chance, but she's got a permanent address in Canada, she'll have a return ticket, various paperwork showing her clearly living in canada, and hopefully she'll have her NOA1, maybe even NOA2 before she goes, so the border guards shouldn't turn her away. Even if they do, it just means we stay in canada until she gets her visa in montreal, then go.

Ahhh I see! The return ticket and paperwork sounds like good evidence she's coming back Sean! Good luck with the move

Why wouldn't they let your wife across.... She's American isn't she? She'll be allowed into her own country smile.gif

QUOTE (LeprechaunSean @ Jul 3 2009, 05:26 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
So I'm planning the big move next week, most likely wednesday, and I'm wondering-besides the Passport/immigration paperwork, is there anything I need to know about bringing a Uhaul full of my household and personal effects across the border? I'm making up an itemized packing list right now, but I read something about a 48 hour prewarning to the POE you plan to use, only I wasn't sure if that was in reference to cars or what.....any input is appreciated.

You don't need to call ahead.... I just showed up at the POE (Queenston/Lewiston) at 5am on a Saturday morning.... I drove my car (was importing it) and my fiance drove the Uhaul behind me.... make sure you stay in the car lane, not the truck lane.... that is for commercial trucks.

The packing list with an approx. value of the goods is all you need! More likely than not, they won't even ask to see the packing list but it's good to have in case!

Good luck with the move!

What if you just sent the GST checks back to them as a return to sender once they arrive at your home?
Then would they know to stop sending them?

And if you write on your taxes that you no longer want the GST checks wouldn't that also stop them from coming to you?

That won't work though if you have direct deposit, as many do.

CanadaLeaving Canada/Who to Notify
I just made sure to cancel my GST cheques, as I didn't want to keep getting those and have to pay them back. I also changed my address with the government, just so my tax package, etc. would be sent here. I notified OHIP with a written letter to advise them I was no longer an Ontario resident, and I cut up that card along with my Ontario DL. As for other stuff, I just changed my address with my magazine subscriptions, credit card, etc. the usual stuff!

A couple questions for you guys who just applied for the SSN...

Question 3.. Are we "legal alien allowed to work" or "legal alien not allowed to work"? Because I'm reading here that if you select option 2, you need to show a document from the government enplaning why you need an SSN? Do we even have that available to us?

I'm sure this has been answered 100 times but I must have missed it

You check that you are allowed to work. The SSN card will say something on it about work authorized only with DHS permission or whatever.

I went to the SSN armed with proof I was able to get one, since I read so many stories on here.

Scroll down to Section C on the link below - Policy.... it specifies K-1's.

Luckily the girl at my local office was smart and knew I qualified to get one, but I had that printout just in case. I posted the link before in Poprocks thread about SSN, etc.

Bless the Broken Road by Rascal Flatts.

We both have some awful stuff and some crazy twists and turns in our pasts. One day I told him that it was all worth it because it prepared us for being together. He was quiet for a second and then told me I had to hear this song. I don't generally like country so I'd never heard it before.

Later he proposed on my birthday at a Rascal Flatts concert while Bless the Broken Road was playing.

We don't really have a song per se. There are a few songs that we both like and remind us of eachother.

For our wedding song we are going to use - Lucky by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat. It's very fitting for us (and probably a lot of people here doing long distance).

I personally had a great experience with the K-1.... all went well, smooth, so I would do that again if given the choice. If you go the K-1 route, you won't be in a long distance relationship with your hubby either (that's another reason I did K-1, I just didn't want to be married and living away from him)

You need to show the original at the interview... I don't think a photocopy would be good enough, even certified. You could always e-mail the consulate to confirm!

(i had no idea haha), if I've ever been married before. I am one of the only person who had all these questions though. Most people don't get any questions so I wouldn't worry about!

I was just more curious about if they would ask about money, because of the payments that have to be made before I leave I wont be going with a whole lot... therefore I wasnt sure if this would become an issue or not? Im just so excited that everything is finally happening that I over think things and worry. if that makes any sense?
