Hah! we were lauughing about her accent too! When my husband and I first started dating, we would watch Battlestar Galactica together, and my husband kept going on and on about Colonel Tye's canadian accent, and I was always "what are you talking aboot??" And he'd laugh even more. But now I guess I've been away from Canada long enough that I can totally hear Jillian's accent! Makes me a little homesick!

Although all the shots of my hometown Vancouver with the the low-hanging rain clouds and grey perma-drizzle cured me pretty quick!

Me too! It bothers me that I notice EH and aboot, when I would never have before! Also my husband said I say eh less and less, I don't want to conform crying.gif

No, at the end they get engaged! Only one of the bachelors has sucessfully been married, so she likely won't get married! It will be more difficult, of course to move in together and see how things work, like most past bachelor/ettes....

laughing.gif I was just thinking the same thing! How are they going to go about the immigration process?

Hey! I never thought about that! They showed her leaving her Vancouver apartment with her wheelie bag, and then the next shot she's walking around the streets of Los Angeles. How the heck could she have got past the CO when she would have to answer the question "What is the purpose of your visit? with " "To find a husband."

LOL I'm sure she had a visa of some sort, ABC got her a work visa perhaps? After all, she is being paid to be on the show, so isn't that considered work? (I know she's being paid as read an article in EW about reality show stars and pay). So did she get an SSN? So many questions haha

I must say though I was really dissapointed there were no Canadian men to choose from... all Americans and one British

I am new to this site and have some questions...Please I appreciate any feedback

My finance is from the US and I am from Canada....we are thinking about getting married in September in the US....

Can I stay in the US for a few months after we get married or do I have to come back to Canada immediately? How long can I stay in the US legally??

Can we immediately apply for K-3 visa regardless if I am in Canada or the US once we married?

thanks again for the feedback and aswers

Bump.... You can stay in the US legally for 6 months, then you have to return to Canada to avoid an overstay.

I know someone, a few years back that also got a stamp saying they HAD to return to Canada within a certain timeframe. It sucks that it will screw up their vacation, but if they plan on being married and going about immigration she doesn't have a choice and must return by that date. I wouldn't risk getting the 10 year ban sad.gif

As Sapphire said, why not have a simple civil/courthouse wedding for legal purposes? That's why we did, our parents did not attend. Then, when your parents can come back even if it's a year later, have your wedding celebration. Then you have time to plan and save money too. I know it's not ideal, but you may not have a choice really.

If you HAVE to give away your pet, I'd recommend your nearest SPCA if you can't find someone yourself. My wife and I volunteer with the BCSPCA and they take fantastic care of the animals and have a very thorough screening process for potential owners.

That's not always the best option though, as the SPCA near me is putting dogs to sleep, even young ones as they have no room for them and are overwhelmed with people bringing in animals

CanadaGiving away a pet...
Aw. I don't know if you'd consider this, but my sister adopted a lovely pooch from a family like yours. They were overwhelmed with the dog, the cost, didn't have time for him really. Free to a good home, so my sister adopted him. Their only request was that it would be an "open" adoption, they still wanted to see him sometimes, maybe spend a weekend at their home now and again. Also get e-mail updates with pics when they can. So around once every 2 months, the old family picks up Charlie and has him for the weekend, then brings him back to my sister's house. They still wanted to be part of Charlie's life in a way, but didn't have time for him full-time. So it made it easier on the family giving him up.

My bank is a credit union, PFFCU (Police and Fire Federal Credit Union) I think they are only in the Philly area though.... You need to have a family member in the police and firefighters union of Philly. They are really great, never give me a hassle about anything. When I got my SSN and was able to get on the account, they gave me a debit card on the spot as well as a Visa.

Sorry to hear about the troubles at your bank, what a joke. I can't believe they did that when you asked to speak to a manager.

You only need to send back the checklist and DS 230 pt. 1. You also need to fill out the DS-160 online before you send back the checklist (or shortly after) and print the confirmation page to bring to the interview. You can either upload a picture or bring an extra passport to the interview. The DS 156K is to be filled out and brought with you to the interview. They make it confusing, I know!

Well my best Timmy's memory involves my Granny.... We lived across the street from eachother in Oakville, so we'd often go for a walk to the nearest Tim's. She'd always get coffee and a muffin and I always got tea and a cookie since I don't drink coffee. Anyway, when she died the family was having a private moment with her casket at the funeral home and we were allowed to each place an item in the casket with her. My Mom put in a Tim's cup with a few coffee grinds inside the cup so she'd always have her Tim's coffee with her smile.gif

When I went for my medical I was rather nervous as well and he commented that my blood pressure was extremely high. I believe it was 155/90. I calmed down a little and they took it again and said it was still high but lower, but still high. He said it that they would just attribute it to anxiety and that I should ask my family doctor about it. I never did, I know I don't have high blood pressure... I'm 21 and have no symptoms, I was just a nervous wreck. Anyways, it never caused any issues for me, so I don't believe the blood pressure issue will even come up.

As far as the ADD goes, it doesn't make you inadmissible, like the others said. Getting a note from your doctor will be annoying and take some time, but after that you will be good to go! I was missing a shot and had to wait over a week to get it from my doctor, then she faxed confirmation to Seiden and I received my medical results the next day.

Huggles, just so you know, high blood pressure is known as the "silent killer" as there are often NO symptoms... so when you say you have no symptoms, that doesn't mean a thing. I'm not saying you actually have high BP, but your reading at the medical was pretty high even for nerves.

Well as for the BP, I had high BP since age 21. I was on 3 different meds at the time of my medical in Toronto, I had no letter from my doctor. I just wrote down the meds I was on, that's all. It was controlled at that point so the reading was fine. The interviewer DID ask me about it though, he asked why such a young, seemingly healthly lady had high BP. Luckily since moving here and I found a great doctor, I am off all medications and my BP is normal smile.gif

Hey to_hope,
Since I know you IRL, and we were at similar stages throughout this whole process, and continue to be, I thought I should comment.

I'm glad to hear your adjustment to the States is coming along nicely. I totally hear you about needing a break from the whole visa information overload, after the process has been completed. Visa Journey is GREAT! but when you finally make it, you do need that break. Hopefully you coming back to the board will inspire me to check in more often. I really do need to find ways to get my Canadian fix in, every now and then. Is it just me, or can it be incredibly lonely being the only Canadian around?

I'm so jealous of your opportunity to spend the summer in Florida. It must be amazing! Say hi to the ocean for me smile.gif I have yet to make it down to the shore since I've moved to the States.

It's good to hear that things are coming along swimmingly with your husband. Isn't it nice to finally be living the way we should have been living ages ago?

And I'm totally with you on the taste of American milk...it's just weird. I want the milk bags back,.... please?

Anywho, just wanted to say it's good to see you back on here! smile.gif

I dreaded and hated to get this vaccine. I didn't feel it was necessary or tested well enough, in my opinion.

I only did 1 of the 3 shots before my interview. I have been in the States for 6 months now and never went back for my 2nd and 3rd shots. And no one mentioned it at the interview either (only needed something saying I had had the first shot). laughing.gif Shout it out!! I'm glad to hear it worked for you, Sapphire. I considered Accutane, but my doctor didn't think my skin was bad enough. To me, it was hell but everyone around me said it was just a few pimples, barely noticeable. Also my family was concerned about all the bad things they heard about it, like nosebleeds, dry mouth, dry skin, the pregnancy tests you have to take (not sure if that's true?) but I got scared off it. Also I heard it can cause serious depression and suicidal tendencies. So I went on Tetracycline instead, it did work well for me. It's an antibiotic though and I didn't want to be on it forever, so I just stopped it one day.

The first derm I went to told me my skin wasn't bad enough either. I was the one that noticed it most, most people didn't even think my skin was that bad. But, the second Derm I went to was more in the mindset of, 'well if you think your skin is really bad, then that's what matters most... you have to live with it' and she said it was borderline, but said that Accutane patients with borderline skin get the best results.

Anywho, I did take a preganancy test each month - it's a blood test that tests your liver as well. Basically if you get pregnant on Accutane you would have a deformed baby. So not getting pregnant is VERY important. But, we've always been careful so I wasn't worried. I did get a few of the side effects though, extremely dry lips (like I had koolaid chapped lips for like 4 months straight!) and I had a really dry nose inside so it would get sore, but I would never bleed. I also had a really dry scalp. But other than that, I had nothing bad happen to me.

The depression and suicidal side effects are pretty rare and only a small percentage get them and it's mostly people who have suffered or already suffer from mental health issues that are affected. I think I definitely had my days where I was down in the dumps, but as soon as my skin cleared up my outlook did a complete 360. I also did it last winter, and I'm always a bit affected in the winter.

It's definitely a strong drug. A lot of dermatologists seem to be apprehensive about giving it out.

That's good to know. I heard sometimes when you get pregnant, your skin either gets really bad or clears up wonderfully, I'm hoping mine goes the good way! I hate the thought of using all these products forever. I wish I could just use some soap and moisturizer and be done with it! I'm so jealous of people with wonderful smooth skin devil.gif

Best suggestion as someone who comes from an arid area... go light. Something without lots of heavy gucky stuff. Stay light. That's my best recommendation. I actually found that although I tried to stay "light" here in the GL area, I actually had to go "heavy" in order for my skin to stop freaking out.

Just a suggestion..... I WISH I was moving back in the next couple of months, like you are. Enjoy!
