Thanks trailmix!

I'm going to be going through the same process. I came to California on a J-1 only intending to stay for a year which wouldn't require me to import my car... but now that I'm getting married (in 22 days!) I will have to import it. I've read that I can go to any POE (I'm thinking Sacramento Airport) to import it, which is good because I crossed at Buffalo and drove all the way across the country to get here and I NEVER want to do that again smile.gif

What do manufacturers charge for a compliance letter? Will I need to get the car safetied first or are they just commenting on the car as it was manufactured?

Mazda's letter was free, some companies charge. They comment on the car as it was manufactured, but there may be issues that need to be addressed (I.E. running lights) but all that info will be on your letter

Thanks guys....man, I just want this car thing to be over!

Bermy...it's not an EAD situation....they recognize that I do qualify, but because I am an immigrant, the system flags me for further background check to verify that my immigration status is indeed legal...it's their SAVE or SAFE system, whatever it's called....I have heard some DMV's have them on site, the one I went to and at least our state says it goes to Harrisburg...

Trail, thanks for the advise....It makes all good sense trail...but I am too much of a wimp to chance it sad.gif I am going to the DMV this week coming!

Jill, my hubby just went for his registration here in PA, and they do this app thing...it takes a few days, they then call you when it's ready to go pick up...then right after that you have to do an inspection.... oh man....all this red tape is draining me sad.gif

Damn I forgot about inspection, that's right... I did the inspection then went back for my plates. Well at least with a brand new car, they better pass you on inspection laughing.gif

I personally would be too scared to risk it Pop... you know how alot of BGs can be arseholes! They might think you're being sneaky and trying to keep 2 residencies.... even if you explain WHY you have an ON plate and license, they could think you're making it up, I dunno.... Go back to the DMV soon and see why the 10 days passed and you have no info.... Once you are approved, you get a temp DL on the spot and you can get the plates same day, I did! They give you temp plates here for 90 days...

QUOTE (bradcanuck @ Sep 11 2009, 04:34 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
No offense, I get that many people lost things and it shook Americans confidence and all - but many born and bred Americans agree with me that perhaps it's time to stop asking these questions every year. Haven't 8 years of unjustified war helped quell those feelings yet?

I get it, I really do. It's tragic. But worse things have happened and worse things will continue to happen all over the world (sometimes on a daily basis... IE check the daily child starvation/aids deaths daily worldwide)

You can still remember those events while feeling for other world events as well. Just because there is other tragedy going on every day, means you have to forget what happened 8 years ago? Not everyone wants to forget what happened and stop discussing it. Everyone deals with it differently.
JillAFemaleCanada2009-09-11 15:50:00
CanadaWhere were you when the towers fell?
I was in second year at McMaster, didn't know my hubby back then.... but I had Tuesdays off and that was my volunteer day at the Oakville Seniors Citizens Residence... it was my first day at work, and I was in the co-ordinators office getting my duties for the day. One of the other employees came in and told us what happened, so we went to the lounge where all the seniors were watching the events unfold.... I felt sick and wanted to go home, but she made me stay to comfort the seniors as many were upset. I stayed until 3 when my shift was over and rushed home to watch TV coverage....

Side note: I was in NYC in May 2001 for the first time on vacay with my sister... we went to the WTC and I have some amazing photos of us in front of them... one shot in particular I have where I was standing undernearth the two and I aimed my camera upwards.... the sun was shining, it's a glorious photo. I have it in a frame now on my wall, and I shudder when I look at it! I am so happy I had the opportunity to visit a few months before and take those photos.... We also took a circle line boat cruise and I have some great harbour shots with the WTC in the background. I really treasure those photos I took, if I had only known 4 months later, they wouldn't be there anymore... I wouldn't have believed it.

Hi Laura! I am in the eaxct same boat right now. I feel awful because I can't fully tell my husband about it and if I attempt to, I break down. I have an 8 year old daughter but it feels like all of a sudden I want us to have another one - SOON! It's crazy but I do want to be a mother again and would love to share that feeling with my husband. But right now, we do not even have enough financially...

Sucks... I truly understand.

Thanks...
I'm sorry you are going through a similar situation.

My husbands knows I want a baby and he wants one too, it's just not the right time.

I just feel like....I almost shouldn't have a baby because of how my family would feel, I know my Mom would be heartbroken, she's even expressed to me that she wouldn't really know her Grandchild....that hurts me.

I wish both our families could be close...I wish so many things...but that's just not how things are.....I don't know how to stop feeling this way.

I feel the same way alot of the time.... last weekend my Mom was in Philly visiting me and we went to my in-laws for dinner. They get along so well and said to her, we wish you lived in the same town! We would have such fun together! It really sucks to only have visits with eachother and not live in the same country.

I've often thought of how difficult it will be when we have children.... only being able to have visits now and again. But I look on the bright side which is we're only an 8 hour drive or so from our parents, which isn't too bad. We can make lots of summer trips with the kids when we have them, and lots of other people live alot farther and can only have 1 trip or so a year to visit their families. And hopefully when the kids are older they can spend summers in Canada. I guess I just try not to dwell on it and look on the bright side, because there is NO alternative. If my husband and I move to Canada, like you said his family will go through the same thing. So it's a no-win situation, unfortunately sad.gif

Many of us know how you're feeling, Laura rose.gif

Maybe the angry lady is interviewing too! Everyone was very nice to us until the interview and this lady was rude and mean. She finally approved my husband, but we were so stressed out and exhausted from the experience, we were not able to do anything for the rest of the day. She was easily confused and several times admitted she couldn`t remember if she asked a question or not. Then she asked me to leave the room and grilled my husband for a few more minutes before she approved him. She was not really interested in our relationship and only asked a few questions about that and didn`t want to see any of the evidence I brought (pix, email, etc) ...she was only interested in the time he spent in Canada as a student, which we were totally unprepared for. I`m sure if he had not been Iranian she would not have been so suspicious, but regardless, she was not nice to either one of us.

Oh yes, the infamous dark curly haired tyrant at MTL. I'd heard about her many times here in the Canadian forums, then got the opportunity to witness her temper first hand when I was in the Montreal Consulate. She was putting a man with a heavy accent through the ringer for missing a document that he needed. She is um...different, but most likely you won't even have to meet her since there are a few windows (can't remember the exact number,) you can get called up to, which means your chances of having to deal with her are pretty small.
If no one else suggested it in your previous thread, I would recommend making an InfoPass appointment, and just explain what happened and see what they say. good.gif

The list that I saw, actually lists what the person has been convicted of. I.E. Rape, possession of child pornography, etc. I never saw anyone on the list that urinated in public or mooned out a vehicle, and if so I do agree they shouldn't be on the list. However the original debate was not about who should be on the list, but whether my/our comments were warranted towards pedophiles and rapists and that they should be given sympathy or not be judged, I don't take back my comments about that and I have zero respect for a child rapist

Why is it sick to know 3 sexual offenders? They are people too. It's their behaviour that you don't like, I would hope it's not the person. There is nothing "scary" about having them live near you. I'm sure you run into them everyday. It's not like they have this huge SO tattooed on their forehead. Sex offenders are brothers, fathers, uncles, nephews, sometimes sisters, mothers, and nieces. They are your neighbourhood butcher, baker, delivery driver, landscaper, or dog walker. They are not "others". There is no commonality to any as well. They are black, white, yellow...they are rich, poor, and in-between. They are educated and some poorly educated. They are young and old.

I don't really get your reasoning here. I didn't see anyone trying to say that all sex offenders were one-type of person, only that they wouldn't feel comfortable living by them. I think that's completely logical and normal. Unless the person got one of those stupid charges where they pee'd in public one day and got thrown on the list, I'd never feel comfortable living near a person who was on that list.

Exactly. I don't feel comfortable knowing that a man who was convicted of raping a child lives 2 streets away from me. Do you think I want to have my kids running around playing outside with a pedophile living nearby? Hell no. I have no respect for convicted sex offenders, people that rape women and children and are violent. It's the person and behaviour I don't like nor respect. How can it not be scary knowing a rapist lives nearby, when many sex offenders commit these crimes more than once?!

So my husband goes around here, since there are no cars coming at all! Anyways, so the crazy woman gasses it and starts coming towards us and basically tries to force us off the road. So at this point, were both laughing like crazy because she's obviously a very poor driver, is irrational, and has a ridiculous temper. So she gets back in her lane and we drive up the left, I look at her and she's giving us the dirtiest look and is yelling something. So what to I do? I point at her, and start laughing like crazy laughing.gif Very mature. And then we get up to a stop light, and she's even more upset now, so I continue to laugh, my husband joins me, and I swear to god, she was a bright shade of red. Southern ON - hands down. Sure stuff happened where I lived, but not the same stuff as here, near DC. I lived in a smaller town obviously (Kitchener)

The number one thing on the news is who and how many people have been shot in DC overnight. 1 or 2 is light night. Many times 5-8 shooting deaths in an evening is standard.

I have to say that not once in 37 years in Kitchener did I picture pulling up to a light and having someone pull a gun out in the car next to me because they're PO'd........but this is a weird new fear I have. someone with bad road rage with be carrying a gun that day and I'll have somehow pi$$ed them off. And the gun will be legal to boot! - Don't even get me started.

There was a couple recently who were beaten (the husband killed) when they were out for their early morning walk with their dog...it was gang-initiation related. It's freaked me out that although my neighbourhood is friendly, what if they'd taken a trip down my street instead?

A little irrational perhaps, but I do not feel as safe here even though I live in the average, all-american, people-who-don't-even- know-me-wave neighbourhood....I just don't feel safe.

Another reason I felt safer in Canada (which has been discussed before) is the lack of streetlights in the US. Sounds silly, I know but in Canada there are many more streetlights. I felt safer walking at night. Here, on my street there is 1 or 2 streetlights and it's SO dark. I don't feel safe at all, due to the darkness everywhere.

Definitely Canada, hands down!!

I lived in Oakville, Ontario which is a very safe little town. Low crime, hardly any and I never hesitated to go for walks at night, alone and never felt threatened.

Here, in Philadelphia the crime rate is so high. I don't feel safe at all, especially at night. It's odd but I hear so often about sexual crimes here than I did back home, you hear about a new rape almost every day. Even female joggers in the trails around here, in broad daylight get attacked. I would never go for a walk in the trails alone here, but I did at home all the time. Here I am fearful of being attacked as it happens so frequently. My husband doesn't like me to be in the city alone at night, he'll always come pick me up or whatever. So it's more sexual crimes I fear here, than robbery or shootings although you hear alot about those too. Sometimes I wish I was back in my bubble living in Oakville where I feared nothing really!

Side note - I don't even live in the city, about 30 minutes north. Even though I live in the burbs, I still don't feel safe here. One time I looked up the registered sex offenders in my town and I was aghast.

So does this mean you guys just submitted the vaccination sheet from your medical here in Canada with no 693 or 693A form? Just the copy the medical office gave you?

Yes, that's correct. I also attached a letter to the vaccination sheet (posted in earlier in this thread)

Uggg yeah the forms are so boring! At least with the biographical form, you can basically copy and paste the old one you did (if you still have it saved, that is) and one of them (either AP or EAD form) is only 1 page, so it's not too terrible. If you want, I will give you my cover page to the entire AOS package if that will help, let me know!

RE: DS-3025

To Whom It May Concern,

Please find attached my Vaccination Documentation Medical Worksheet (DS-3025).

Please note that all of my vaccinations are up-to-date and were completed before my Visa was approved. All of my medical records were in the sealed brown envelope submitted at the POE in Buffalo, New York on November 15, 2008.

Thank You,

My name and signature

Well my opinion would be go without it, only because I did and was fine biggrin.gif I did include a letter attached to the vaccination worksheet stating that all of my vaccinations were up to date. You could do the same and mention the gardisil too. So many Canadians here told me not to bother with Dr. Arnold, I heeded their advice and got lucky.

Your medical was under one year ago, correct?

Mine too =( 4-6 months... =(

The letter says that, to prepare you for worst case.... but it's usually not 6 months!!

I know, but I was just wondering where the "2-4" waiting period was from, cause I never heard anything that low.. lol And with people not hearing back from Montreal for 3 months, ... yikes. Ah well, I'm just getting discouraged. I thought the LONG wait part was over (for noa2), but no!

Oh girl, the long wait is NEVER over, LOL until you become a USC laughing.gif

As I stated earlier, my bet is to say one is PREGNANT!! Pregnancy = no shot!! just a guess though, and of course the Dr would have to go along with it.

That's a great idea, but I doubt many doctors will lie for their patients, since it's against their ethics to lie

its the same amount of liquid as all other vaccines (or so my nurse told me today) but the syrum itself is quite stingy. She said she gave her daughter the shots and each time her daughter cried...I haven't cried, it doesnt really hurt that bad anymore but when the syrum went in it felt like there was tons of it. I'm just a big baby when it comes to any needles though. Terrified for the medical when they take blood as I pass out when I get blood drawn ><

Whenever I get the flu shot it hurts alot more than a regular injection for some reason. I have a bad pain in my arm for days and bruising around the area too. The nurse even says be sure to get it in the arm that you don't write with
