Kathryn, did they take your 10 year GC at the citizenship interview, is that why you cannot go back to Canada (or I suppose, get back in here).

Of all things to go missing, why can't it ever be bills? Bills always seem to make it and never get lost, don't they

Grrr - it looks like my US passport has gone missing in the mail! It was sent to me on September 18th by priority mail at the same time as my passport card and my citizenship certificate. The tracking report from USPS said to expect delivery around the 23rd. My citizenship certifiicate (thank God) and the passport card have both arrived - but my US passport is no where to be found. I filed a complaint with USPS online tonight and I will be going to the post office on Monday to complain in person. I am not impressed and will be really annoyed if I have to refile all over again submitting the report of a lost or stolen passport with my application. Grrr - I am not going to pay the fee again - the Post Office can pay for that since they are the ones who have lost it.

Oh god! For all the things to be lost in the mail, passport is the worst!

So when we moved in here, as soon as we saw the place I said - this is too small - this 850 sq ft apartment that looks much smaller.

After we had been here about 5 days I called the manager. I asked her if there were any larger apartments available as we had noticed one looked empty (in fact it is the apartment we lived in like 9 years ago) - that faces the view of the city.

She told me no - it is not empty, it is reserved for the company 'big wigs' and that she did not have any 2 bedroom apartments with a view available, in fact she had no bigger apartments available.

I said this place is really too small - she said, well, I can put you on a waiting list, I said, how long is that waiting list? She said we were 5th, but we might not have to wait that long as people changed their minds about moving sometimes.

So I have been thinking about this. You can tell from the lack of cars in the parking lot that this place is not full. So I set up an email account and wrote asking about vacancies.

The first thing I noticed from the list, based on our rent is that she rented us the 'compact' apartment which is 750 sq ft not 850 - now that was verbal, so even if I give her the benefit of the doubt on that - there are 2 bedroom apartments in 3 different sizes available right now - including one that faces the city!!!!!

What a lying witch!!

That's crazy! You'd assume the larger apartments are more expensive though, so why would they lie and say no to making more money/renting out a more expensive place? That's not smart on their part.

Are you gonna confront them!? I would LOL

I'm pretty sure that they laid him off because of one particular jerk that works there. This guy has even called to harass us at home because he dislikes Phil so much. Unfortunately, he's got his head stuck so far up the owner's backside that he gets whatever he wants. Heck, he's been getting away with taking credit for other people's work for years.

That is really awful. I hope he finds a new job with a better work environment soon. good.gif

My vent:

My employers have instituted a new software package on the servers. Not only does it restrict a vast number of websites that were previously allowed, but it also logs your activity and sends a montly log and report to all the supervisors here. It's surreal, almost like working in an Orwell scene. As a civil libertarian, this appauls me, but I like the people that I work with, and I like my job so I will keep quiet and hope they don't block this site.

Bermy, I'm SO sorry to hear that. rose.gif

Rob, my company did the same, I don't really see anything wrong with it... after all, you are on a company owned computer, and company time.... why should you be allowed to browse the net all day at their expense? (not you specifically, I mean employees in general). My company blocked every website out there except ones required for work, and it definitely made you work more. If I'd been able to get on VJ, cnn, etc. I would have wasted lots of time on the web instead of working. They also kept a log of what you were doing on the company computer. Again, I saw nothing wrong with that since it's THEIR property and I had nothing to hide

So I spent Thursday and Friday looking for new jobs, and only found three that I was qualified enough to do.
This is going to be hell I just know it.

I had to ask my boss if my next two paychecks were going to bounce (he's already bounced 2 on me this year, which was NOT fun to deal with).
On monday I'm going to ask my boss straight up why he didn't just put me on unemployment. If he needs the hours, he can take mine, while I collect and look for a new job.

This week has probably been the worst in my life, and I'm hoping it only gets better...meaning, I hope I have hit rock bottom so I can make my way back up again sad.gif

Here is my problem with American healthcare. I went to renew my birth control prescription last week. The doctor decided that he didn't want to do the full-pap because mine from Canada was done at the end of September. But I was out of BC, the reason for my visit. So he gave me a refill for 3 months and said, come back in October and I'll give you a year's worth when we do the pap. Fine. . . . . .

But before I saw the doctor, the nurse had me take a pregnancy test to see the results with the doctor before he could refill my prescription. Okay, maybe that's normal but in the 13 years I've been on orthro, I've never had to take a pregnancy test. The doctor just always asked if there was a possibility that I could be pregnant and if I said no, that was enough.

So I get the bill in the mail yesterday. $35 for that freaking pregnancy test and $95 for the "exam". Now my insurance paid for all but $30 of it. But was the $35 pregnancy test really necessary? I mean I knew I wasn't pregnant. Heck I could buy my own test at Wal-Mart for a heck of a lot less.

Bern, I SO HEAR YOU! I have to wear long sleeves and long pants to go out to harvest vegetables from the garden other wise I am eaten alive. Even wearing insect repellent doesn't work and I have tried a wide variety of them. Avon's Skin So Soft doesn't work either. I can't sit out back on our patio when the weather is nice anymore because of the mosquitoes. We have a lot of foliage in our back yard and with the rains we have been getting that seems enough for the mosquitoes to thrive.

I should buy the anti-itch cream with antihistamine by the caseload because I need to slather it on after every time I have been outside in the garden. Fortunately, it does work and I highly recommend the product. I don't know if it is available in Canada - never needed it then - but check the pharmacies near by - they should have some sort of home brand if they do. The ones I use in the States use 2% diphenhydramine which is the active ingredient in Benadryl.

I wonder if those OFF fans work, have you seen the commercial? You click this little fan on your belt or pants and it blows away the mosquitos or something like that

One food item I really missed from home was Arrowroot baby cookies. You know, the yellow box with the baby on the front. They are so yummy dipped in tea! Anyhoo, Wegmans has alot of Canadian products and I happily found Arrowroot cookies there, whoohoo! Blue box, but seemed the same. So I have a blue box in my pantry, and last weekend at home I picked up a Canadian box of Arrowroot. The point of my story is, today I opened the blue box of Arrowroot and check out the ingredients and what's in them? HFCS!! In BABY COOKIES!! For pete's sake, these are for babies!! Then I compared them to the yellow box and of course, no HFCS. They are both made in Canada but the blue box is made for a US company so HFCS is put in there. I promptly tossed the blue box and opened up my yellow Arrowroot, HFCS free. Sheesh!

I remember waking up at night to "snap"!! ick!! How do you empty a live trap though? Where do you take them? Can't you just leave poison or something out and have them eat that and then die? Maybe they hide to die and then disintegrate!

Well the live traps are pretty easy, I'll even empty them! It's just a little box, on a slant with a door. So I put peanut butter in the back, and they run in to eat in and the weight makes the door close. There are holes for air, then I pick up the trap and bring it outside to the field and open the door and the poor guy makes a run for it. The poison ones are a good idea, but I'm weary they will hide and die in our place and I don't want mouse corpses hiding about laughing.gif

Ok so this apartment we are living in, our patio runs out to the stairs which are the entrance to this building (grrr)

So periodically people just look in our patio door - People, avert your eyes - you are sooooooo rude!!

I actually waved at one of them.

Oh and the day before yesterday someone actually came up and knocked on the patio door glass - we couldn't see who it was as we had the blinds closed on that side (we now have our desks on that side for some privacy).

So we go - hello? And she moves to the open side and says hi, is Dustin here? Well I don't know who the hell Dustin is, but he isn't here - use the front door you twit.

Same with the maintenance guy the other day, he came to replace some skirting board. Walks right up to our door and says hellloooo - he said, can I come in this way - I said sure - if you take your shoes off lol - I have no idea why I even said that, it's just the first thing that came to mind. So anyway, that backs up the fact that I am not too shy/polite to ask someone to remove their shoes.

He said something like - of course!

Two vents for me today.....

1) Why can't our new puppy seem to go to the bathroom outside? We take her out very frequently, and without fail, when she gets back into the apartment, she'll take a big steaming dump on the carpet. To make things worse, she's adjusting to new food, so it's really really really gross and messy blink.gif

2) Now it seems that some people on here have shed themselves of annoying neighbors...... and now Mel and I have inherited them. It is a small apartment complex (3 units), and she moved in about two weeks ago and showed signs of being annoying right off the bat. She sings out on her porch, and is loud all day long. The worst part is that she gets home from work between 1:30 and 2:00 a.m., and isn't very quiet when she gets home. There are two good parking spaces and myself and the other neighbor park in them, so rather than park in one of the spaces in front, she parks illegally, just under our window. I'm seriously considering calling the police to get her car towed this morning. mad.gif

We inherited some annoying neighbors too.... but I feel bad venting about them, because it's a child. The lady downstairs was always quiet since she moved in, but about a month ago her grandson who is about 2 yrs old moved in as well, not sure what happened to his parents. Anyway this kid is SO loud he screams non-stop and runs back and forth really loudly. Every Sat/Sun morning at 7 the kid is shreiking and throwing things, the floor even shakes and we can't sleep in. Sometimes the thumping is so loud the pictures on the wall rattle. But I feel bad saying anything because she's always been really quiet and it's just a kid, what can you do.

I had a Sunfire back in Canada and I loved driving it... on the other hand, my husband has a full size Pontiac Grand Prix, its a nice car, but it feels too big. Its not as fun to whip around corners and throw into small parking spaces. I want something small but a sedan with 4 doors. My 2 door sunfire got really annoying when I was lugging around people (especially my grandparents, ugh) The 6 is a little bigger then what I want. I'm also considering a Ford Focus, but performance wise, I hear the 3 blows it out of the water, and price wise they are very comparable. At any rate, I want to wait until I can actually buy it myself. My car, my name! tongue.gif

Yeah the 3 is nice and small, yet roomy! Large trunk and backseats, I just love it. The 6 is too expensive and big, I mean you probably don't need that much room in a car. And I think the performance is excellent, it's not like I'm street racing

Now that the question is answered and I won't be hijacking the thread... How do you guys like your Mazda's? I'm considering purchasing a Mazda 3 in the next few months. They are super cute! biggrin.gif

I have a Mazda 3 too, LOVES IT!! It's so cute, runs super well, and I have nothing bad to say about it! Mine is an 05, I already have 130,000 KMS on it, such a great vehicle. Highly recommend!

CanadaInterview date missed...help please
It's quite alright if your NOA expires by interview time, mine did. Montreal automatically extends it for you.
