I had to pay $6 when I activated my K-1, but not when I used my AP and they gave me a new I-94. Hmmm, I wonder if they'll remove the I-94 on my way home? Will it stay in there forever? As I only show them my GC, not passport apparently.

I have had numerous problems and bad luck with my windshield on my car.... my Mazda is a 2005 and I'm on my fourth windshield. The last one I got right before I moved, so I could claim it on insurance. So yesterday when driving on the 95 to the airport, a rock hit the windshield and left a pretty chip in it, that will probably lead to a crack before I get home and get the chance to fill it ranting33va.gif It annoys me SOOOOO much that my windshield needs to be replaced at least once per year sometimes more!

I'm having the same problem! I was sooooooooooooooooo annoyed when, two weeks after buying our new car, I was driving along the highway when a rock flew out of nowhere and made a chip right in the line of sight! Of course, I wasn't nearly as mad as when the glass guy and husband pretty much accused me of causing it myself. mad.gif

Oh gee, ya we purposely throw rocks at our windshield to cause damage! laughing.gif The first time was also 2 weeks after getting my car too.... Three times it's been a pebble on the highway, one time was a huge chunk of ice that nearly caused me to get into an accident. That smashed the windshield so bad it was not driveable. I hope I can catch it in time before it spreads, what a pain in my rear.

We just returned our Packet 3 and now the next waiting game begins!

We are thinking of waiting to schedule the physical until after we receive the interview date so we can do it just a day or two before the actual interview - so we don't have to make an extra trip to Montreal.

Anyone think this is a bad idea? Sounds like Medisys is pretty easy to schedule so I'm thinking we shouldn't have any problems at all.

Chris

That's a good idea, many people do that so you're all good! No reason to make a trip twice to Montreal, unless you live really close by

Milk in bags in amazing. I miss bagged milk. Here I buy those stupid plastic jugs, and you know what always happens? When I go to twist off the lid after using it a few times, there is crusty dried milk pieces that fall off into my tea/cereal/etc. It SUCKS. I hate milk here, or the cartons that is.

Canadafiance recently told he is diabetic
I think the letter from the doctor was a great idea.... It really shouldn't be an issue, as they are mostly concerned with contagious diseases, I.E. HIV/TB. I had serious high blood pressure when I went for my medical, I had a doctor note about my meds, etc. It was perfectly fine. I'm sure others may know specifically for diabetes, someone may have specific experience with that but I doubt it would be a big issue!!

Something happened in Toronto last night that really upset me.... A friend of a friend (I didn't know the victim personally) was beaten to death and run over by 4 men in the Entertainment District. He happened to be gay, and it could *possibly* be a hate crime but the police will not yet speculate that it was in fact a hate crime, but it's possible. To hear about something like that in TO.... I mean you hear about hate crimes against gays in the Southern US, but rarely in Canada. It really made me so sad sad.gif and for my friend too, who lost a good friend.

CanadaAbsolute Worst Timing Having to Lease a Car
QUOTE (DeadPoolX @ Jul 30 2009, 05:12 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I really dislike American cars. If there's one thing the U.S. sucks at, it's making a good automobile.

Don't get me wrong -- most American cars have some awesome features. Unfortunately, they tent to drive like $hit. Last time I checked, it's more important for the car to drive well than have OnStar or video screens in the back seat.

The only American cars I've ever liked are the Chevrolet Corvette and Dodge Viper, both of which are very expensive. It almost seems like all American automotive skills went into those two cars and the rest got whatever was left over.

I prefer German or Japanese vehicles. German cars tend to be very expensive (trust me, I know!) but are incredible cars. Unless you're purchasing a Lexus, Japanese cars usually cost less. Oddly enough, Japanese cars seem to have fewer mechanical and electronic issues than German cars.

As a side note, my grandfather refuses to buy a German car, but he has no problem getting a Japanese car. My grandfather fought in Europe during WWII, but never went to the Pacific. That's probably why. We're also Jewish, so maybe that pesky Nazi ordeal made him a little biased. tongue.gif

I agree, I'll never buy American again. I've had problems with my old GM vehicle, family members have as well with Ford. My Mazda and sister's Honda are great cars and have lasted well through the years will little problems. My husband has a Toyota and it's great as well. I'll always buy foreign from now on

Hi everyone!

Is there anything specific I need to know when I go through POE at the Trudeau airport in Montreal this weekend?
I am bringing 2 luggages, a backpack and the sealed envelope I got with my visa. Also i will have all the paperwork I originally did for the interview itself (just in case) whistling.gif

I guess my main question is what do they give me after they look at all my paperwork in secondary? The I-194?
Do I have to make sure anything is stamped or given to me?

Thanks so much guys. I will totally write a review of the POE once I get to Florida.

Hey Domegal,

Congrats on the big move, you must be excited!! You sound all set, the most important thing is the brown envelope and passport, obviously. Of course have a small list or be able to advise customs what is inside your luggage and stuff.

So they'll take your brown envelope and then give you an I-94 stapled to your passport, this cost $6 USD. That's really important, as you need it for AOS. That's all I can think of, since you're not importing a car or anything you don't have to worry about that! All you'll get back is your passport with I-94 and a stamp on there....

GOOD LUCK!!

CanadaMy Cat
QUOTE (Kathryn41 @ Jul 27 2009, 08:39 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hmm, someone has some wrong information. Canada is definitely NOT a rabies free zone. There are ongoing problems with rabies throughout the country with some bad pockets here and there. A few years before I left there was a raccoon acting very strange in the middle of the day - walking down the center of the street, rolling over, batting at its face, running backward, acting almost like it was drunk. The police came and shot it. Because I was concerned about possible rabies as this happened right in front of my house I asked the police to let me know if the results came back positive for rabies. They called a few weeks later to tell me that the raccoon was indeed rabid.

Rabies is also prevalent in the US and it is mandatory in every state that I know of for cats and dogs to have regular rabies shots - whether they are older or not. Older cats may not require regular vaccinations for other illnesses since they will probably have immunity to them after years of vaccination- panleukopenia ("feline distemper"), feline leukemia, herpesvirus, calicivirus - but rabies is not one of the ones to which they develop an immunity.

While there are no federal requirements in the US for cats to have rabies shots, it is because rabies management is a state issue and not a federal one. There are State requirements for rabies vaccinations. You should definitely check out the requirements for the state to where you are moving or in which you are living.

They shot the racoon!? sad.gif You think they could have called the humane society so the racoon could be trapped and put to sleep humanely

I follow this blog called Ms. Single Mama. Anyway she is from Ohio and married a man from Quebec, it turned out badly. This is how she described it:

When you Know

by mssinglemama on July 8, 2009

My aunt and I were talking on the phone about my French-Canadian fiance.

We would be getting married in her back yard in just a few days. I was frantically planning the wedding so we could beat an INS deadline to kick him out of the country.

“So, do you have that feeling?” she asked. “You know how people say ‘when you know, you know.’ Do you have it?”

“No, I don’t. It’s not there. Is that bad?”

“Oh, I’m sure it’s fine. You know you want to be with him, right?”

“Yeah. And that’s crazy anyway? It’s all a risk, a leap of faith, how can you just know?”

I was 25-years-old and I was really good at talking myself into things.

After we took our vows we were standing in a dark corner of my aunt’s gorgeous yard, the laughter of my friends and family echoing, me in my wedding dress and him wearing one of my father’s old suits.

It had been a last minute adjustment. My mom had hated his rental tux so she found one of dad’s suits for him to wear. I clung to that for the two years we were together, thinking that it was a sign from my father that we should be together.

But here in the darkness I looked at my new husband and suddenly felt like I’d just jumped off of a cliff with him.

“Well, this is it. We’re in this together now.”

I expected him to hold me tight and tell me how wonderful it would be, something to that effect but we both stood there shuffling our feet not quite sure what to say or do. And it was then that I knew something was off, very off.

If your BIL is having doubts like he is now, that's a sign there is something seriously wrong and he needs to make the right decision before it goes too far
