No, everyone knows it isn't going to benefit us. My boss just got over breast cancer and has medications that cost her 700.00 a month. She basically says she has two months and then has to pay 1000.00 and then the plan kicks in. She's a single mom, she doesn't have 1000.00 laying around.

It isn't my bosses who decide this, its actually our members, the board of directors. I would like to ask the president of the board if he would like this plan for himself and his family. Buuut I don't think that would go over well. tongue.gif

Our last plan was going up... apparently this is common right now. My husbands insurance was just raised too and they had to drop his eye care. ####### happens... or rather ####### is happening.

I love how the people from Aetna are here though acting like it benefits us. laughing.gif I can't wait for my turn to meet with them. Do I look like I was born yesterday???

That's really horrible! We have Aetna too, and as of now it's a really superb plan....

Anyway, I'm not on twitter but FB is a nice way to share photos with friends and family. Who wants to e-mail 60 pictures, when they can look at your online album? Also, if you just want to say something quick, you don't always want to pick up the phone. FB is good for lots of things, obviously it shouldn't replace actually getting together and seeing your friends to catch up in person.

Sometimes my mother has a way of really hitting me with a low blow, and it usually happens around my birthday. She either goes a few years without acknowledging my birthday and then sometimes she does but when she does... she does it in a way that just kind of hurts.

This year she sends a card with a loonie attached to it with this written underneath: "I would have given you more but you already seem to have it all down there so here's a loonie to add to the insanity"

Oh. Well thanks.

I sometimes feel like I need to be sorry that I am happy around her.

Well.. that was a mood killer.

Ouch. It sounds as if she still hasn't forgiven you for moving.

I saw this episode of 20/20 last night, which was about this missing girl in AZ, presumably killed... anyway they were talking about how common it is to have sex offenders in your neighborhood, and you have no idea. Now it must be public, so I went to the website to put in our zipcode just to check. The amount of offenders disgusted me, I actually feel sick after looking at the map. You can click on the thing and it gives the offenders picture, name and address and what they were convicted of. Just looking at all of these people leaving very closeby, I probably pass them in the grocery store, etc. It just sickens me to know these predators are roaming around here, and everywhere. I was very surprised to see how many are just really close to home. I don't even have kids yet, and it scares me to death!

You probably have worked with some and you didn't even know it.

There are so many sex offenders... its crazy. People think I am insecure for not allowing anyone to babysit my son, but it could literally be anyone who is doing that stuff. I even get worried about him going to school, you hear about teachers sleeping with their students. It is a scary world we live in.

Yeah and it's not just sex offenders against children, the yellow box on the map means the person was convicted of rape and a red box means an offence against a child. So there are also known rapists roaming around here, it's so freaky.

my vent of the day. - BAD HAIR DAY
i went to get a hair cut yesterday. i get really nervous with new hairdressers. im always loyal to my stylists that save my hair. i always have the victoria beckham short bob. so i asked the lady if someone in the salon can do that style. they say yes. i sit down, i tell her "see the texture i have in all sides of my hair?? i want exactly the same style but shorter". so she cuts my hair shorter. but does not flat iron it to get the full texture style. she wets my hair with her spray while she's cutting it and when she is done w/ my cut, she takes the robe off and said im done. i have wet hair!!! its a $25 for a wet hair! i was so irritated, i just wanted to leave and not have it fixed the way i wanted it. i figured she will just butcher my hair. i have never walked out of a salon w/ unstyled hair and pay that much. yeah i didnt tip her. i should have picked the lady with the purple hair. at least she has personality and cares about her hair.

Did you go to a Supercuts or one of those chain places? Because I know usually at those places, it's cheaper and they just cut, no blow dry (unless you ask, but they don't normally) it's strictly hair cutting there, not really hair styling.

I had to move my pop over to the other side of my desk so that it's nowhere in the vacinity of these now contaminated tickets. I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to pass these tickets to the winner without touching them.

OK, I have been testing the waters regarding casual dress at work. I had worn a polo and khaki pants a couple of times, albeit on fridays and it was ok. Well, today, I wore that, and decided to wear casual shoes. They aren't sneakers, but kinda look like em. I don't know how to accurately describe them. Anyways, It appears that the shoes are the breaching point. As I walked in, I got the comment "soooooooo you're pushing how far you can go with the casual look" several times. Now i'm paranoid and avoiding anyone with any real authority. I work for a police department, which by it's nature is a para-military organization. Some take the military aspect of it a lot more literally than others. I really don't want to get sent home for inappropriate attire. So it's a big game of hide and seek here today blush.gif

Two things...

First Vent
My brother-in-law pisses me off. mad.gif

My wife and I went to Victoria for a weekend getaway and to see her sister. Well, my wife's sister (my sister-in-law) is pretty cool. Granted, she's a little preoccupied with her three kids, but she has a good sense of humor and actually engages in a conversation with you.

My brother-in-law (my wife's sister's husband), on the other hand, is damn difficult to deal with. First of all, he doesn't have a conversation with you -- he lectures. He'll talk about in great detail whatever it is he knows or thinks he knows. When he's wrong (and he is fairly often), he'll refuse to admit it and keep talking. The worst part about all of this is he won't let you get a word in (he's too busy lecturing, remember?) and when he's finally finished, he won't pay attention to a word you say.

I remember one time he was telling me -- in great detail -- about how Houston is and what goes on there, since I'm from that city. Well, he's never been to the U.S., let alone Texas. That seems a little presumptuous to assume you know all about a place you've never visited.

Second Vent
While I was instructing an "Introduction to the Internet" class, one woman was making small talk. I forget how it was mentioned, but I must've told her I'm originally from Texas. She seemed surprised and said, "You must've been here a long time. You've lost your accent!"

I told her that most Texans -- especially those living in the major cities, like Houston -- don't have an accent anywhere near the Hollywood stereotype. I then added that assuming Texas is all desert, cowboys and saloons is like imagining Canada is completely frozen, polar bears walk down the street and people live in igloos.

She didn't want to listen and kept with: "But I've seen Texas on TV!" wacko.gif

Not to worry, Canadians in America deal with stereotypes all the time too! Someone asked me if we had grocery stores in Canada, or did we shoot moose/deer to survive. And they were SERIOUS! Ignorance is everywhere!

Ok...this is a vent so I can be a little off topic.

Today I get a phone call while at work. Our phone system has a different ring if it is an internal call vs outside call. It is an outside call. I am always a little bit surprised when someone from the outside calls me directly since in my job position I don't get phone calls. Normally it is just the person has called the wrong number and is looking for a different department.

I pick up the phone, and say Hello, this is M....and I am 100% freaked out by the voice on the other end of the phone.

Imagine the creepiest voice you can imagine...Hello M, it is your "uncle". I freak out and hang up the phone. I instantly recognized the voice.

The creep is a mentally disturbed individual who stole my identity, tried to run me over with his car, broke into my apartment and while in my apartment an altercation ensued. I was stabbed but was able to hold him, while my ex called the police. He was convicted and sentenced to jail. I moved from the Northeast USA to Hawaii. Get as far away as possible from this nut job. It has been 10 years - which was the length of his jail time. I guess his free and now I feel like I am being stalked.

Right now I am so freaked out, I can't concentrate on work.

That is so freaky crazy.... If you moved so far away to Hawaii how did he find you.... A trace on the call would determine where he is, hopefully not on the island....

Also sometimes when you are released from jail you're on parole or something... contacting you is surely a violation of his parole so it must be reported.

Here's something I need to vent about.... Not sure if any of you have heard of the wildfires happening near Santa Barbara.
This website seems to have some good info: http://www.thedailysound.com/News/

Anyways... Loooong story short, there's a BIG f'ing FIRE burning like 4 miles from my fiance's home... he's about 2 miles from the evacuation warning boundary. Now... since they are not yet within the evacuation warning, he and his family are of course, not doing anything about it yet. Just keeping an eye on things. The fire is less than 48 hours old, so there's room for expansion, as it is ZERO % contained. I'm worried (duh)... and my fiance was supposed to come here for a visit on the 15th anyways... so just over a week from now. I'm trying to encourage him to just get the F out of there and come here early, but he won't. And to be honest, I'm a bit pissed off. I don't understand how he can not realize how HORRIBLE and frustrating this is to watch on the news, and see the pictures that he's taken FROM HIS BACK YARD of maaaassive plumes of smoke filling the air.

Is my pissedoffedness justified, or should I just let him be? I haven't seen him in 3 and a 1/2 months, and f'ing hell, I don't understand why he's got to be stubborn and just sit around WAITING for the stupid fire to come even CLOSER. I can't be there with him, I can't help him, I can't do ANYTHING, except wait for a horrible situation to get even worse before he does anything about it. He doesn't seem to understand why I'm so worried, and even more so since I'm so far away and helpless in this situation. Like, am I really the only person that would think to just get out JUST IN CASE?! Especially when a loved one is freaking out about your safety. Wouldn't you want to put their mind at ease??

WOW that's horrible, I heard about the fires and I hope it doesn't come any closer.... of course you have every reason to be worried, but at the same time it's his home so it's normal for him to want to stay and make sure everything is OK.... he is coming on the 15th which is really soon.... It's horrible for you but it's worse for him, as he's there in the immediate situation.... I think it makes perfect sense that he'd want to stick it out until the last possible minute. If it gets bad, there will be an evacuation warning but since there's not yet, I understand his position.... but I also get your concern!

This is not good at all, because your car has to be in good working order, so that means I'm going to have to magically come up with like $500 to get the check engine light turned off.
Also, it has to have a smog test since I live in CA, and probably do the driving test since I still have my Canadian license.

QUOTE (SapphireDreams @ May 5 2009, 09:18 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
It's really starting to hit me too, so when people ask me I have to swallow carefully and hold back my tears.

Today my sister and I went to the mall to switch my cell phone to her name (her contract ended this month and she's taking mine over like a nice sister so I don't have to pay $350 yay!) and on the way home she started asking me if I was happy I was leaving and then she started to cry and I really had to fight back my tears because I really didn't want to cry in front of her just yet. I feel like I need to stay strong at least until the last week or so. But yeah, I think my sister is really really sad and feels like I'm abandoning my family. It's so hard because obviously I want to leave because I'm really looking forward to being together with my fiance, but on the other hand, I'm really sad to know that people think that I'm just leaving. I just really hope it doesn't change the dynamic of my family too much... but maybe that's selfish of me to think that way. What an emotional roller coaster this is going to be!

Ahhhh that's exactly how I felt! My sister had just moved to Oakville from Montreal the year before I left, so it sucked because we had just gotten close and were spending lots of time together. I felt so bad leaving my Mom because we went grocery shopping every week together, I had her over to my apt every Sunday for dinner, etc. I wanted to leave too but I didn't want people to think it was so easy, just getting up and moving. So I tried to be strong too, holding back tears, etc. Then the morning of my move, got up at 4am, woke up Mom and sister, when we went outside in the pouring rain to say goodbye I started bawling, I think it was the first time I actually cried.... In the car I had to get myself together because I was arriving at the POE in 1/2 hour and I didn't want to be a mess! It's so, so hard.

The teller at the bank made me soooo mad! ARGH!

She's an older lady that has been working in the bank across the street from our family home forever. Sometimes she makes small talk with my mother, as her son was in the same university program as me for a couple years. Whenever I go in on my own she never talks to me... But today was different for some reason. She asked me if I was graduating and what I wanted to do. I told her I'm getting married and moving to the US, so any career aspirations will be delayed for the next 6 months or so. Then she started asking me weird questions that were really none of her business. She wanted to know where we met and I said we met online and she made a judgmental old lady face. Her reaction: "well... have you checked him out at all? Have you even been to Colorado?" Have I CHECKED HIM OUT?! Excuse me, we've been dating for 4 years, I'm pretty sure if he was a serial killer I'd know by now. And no, I'm going to move to a place I've never been to.... That seems logical. Then she says, "well your mom can't be happy about that." Excuse me lady, don't presume to tell me what my mothers reaction to my engagement is, like I haven't been living with it for the last 9 months. Its one thing to get this from people you're close to, Its another to get it from a stranger at the bank who thinks they know you but wouldn't know your name if it didn't come up on their computer!

I bit my tongue so hard it hurts! GAWR!!

Oh I know what you mean Huggles. Don't worry about people like that... they don't know any better. The first question I get every time I say I'm moving is, "How does your Mom feel?" Like yes people, of course she is sad, she's definitely not jumping for joy or anything.

Me too girls! I got, and still get so tired of people saying "Your poor Mom" or whatever, or asking how my parents felt. I don't need to feel worse than I already do/did by leaving my Mom! No need to state the obvious or ask nosy questions.

Exactly.

A couple of years ago in school he got mad at me for making him a turkey sandwich telling me he hated turkey.. the next day I gave him two slices of bread and that's it. laughing.gif He never complained again.

He chose the damn turkey, but decided after one day he didn't like it. Doesn't work like that kiddo.

He'll learn. I have never seen him throw a tantrum like this in a long time, but it was first thing in the morning and I just finished making him waffles, HOMEMADE WAFFLES and thats the thank you I get? Oh hell no.

Wow homeade waffles on a weekday!? You're a good Mommy star_smile.gif

It's too bad we all just didn't move to the same area. Then there'd be no time for thumb twiddling! laughing.gif

laughing.gif I know, we could sit, drink coffee and reminisce about the good old days in Oakville

I haven't heard back from the company I had the job interview at last week.... I'm still looking but there are some real slim pickins' out there. I am definitely starting to get restless after 6 months of unemployement, it's been a good 6 months but it's time for me to go back to work. I really hope to find a job soon, the boredom is bringing me down sad.gif I can only exercise, read, clean, cook, etc. so many hours of the day. Then there are alot of hours left in the day to twiddle my thumbs.

And now we have 2 out of 4 servers crying due to said mob...that makes me mad. I wish the restaurant was my department, I'd handle it wink.gif

How rude!

Sigh, the weather is ####### today, rainy and dark. Glen was supposed to have his home-opener softball game today, I was looking forward to going. Anyway, now he's sulking around that he's bored, I laughed and said imagine how I feel, I've done this every day for the past 6 months! There is no way he could go through 6 months of not working if he can't go through 1 day of relaxing around the house. Sheesh men laughing.gif

Rats - the fridge and freezer has stopped working! It looks like it has been not cooling for much of the day. I went shopping this morning of course and put in fresh milk and everything was fine then. Then, while making dinner I 'heard' water dripping. I cleaned it up, opened the freezer and saw everything in varying degrees of thaw - including the ice maker - that is what was dripping. Check of the manual shows nothing I can handle, so I called a repair guy and yes, he can make it this evening. Now I am just waiting for him to show up. I've moved what was salvageable to the big freezer in the garage, threw out some stuff that wasn't salvageable, and have a whole bunch of meats to cook up tomorrow before I can refreeze them. NOT what I was planning on doing - grrr.

I hope it's not too $$ to fix!

OK my second and last vent for the day is that I must be getting old! I used to be able to eat spicy, spicy food. Like I could eat jalepenos on it's own, I could handle the heat. Lately, a little bit of hotness makes my mouth burn! I don't enjoy it like I used to. I used to put hot sauce on everything, even eggs!

Mel and I have had several arguments that were about nothing. I think it's just a trying situation for us both and its compounded by the fact that she isn't able to work, or do much. We both know its hard and just try to keep going with things. My family is really trying to not smother her. LoL, my sister though, has completely failed at that part. It's OK I think they are becoming friends.

Understandable! I actually liked being smothered in the beginning, my in-laws would call every day, sometimes twice a day, take me out for lunch or shopping, show me around town.... I enjoyed all the attention because it kept me busy and made me feel happy! Mind you, the smothering has quieted down after 6 months laughing.gif Now I'm on my own LOL
