wow.. i'm stunned by the news these days.. is it just me or are people becoming more and more intolerant each and every day? It looks like we are merging into a society of 4 or 5 issues, and if you happen to fall on the wrong side of the popular opinion or you hold a dissenting view you are publicly humiliated and scorned. Wow.. I'm just kinda stunned really over the whole Miss America thing, and now even Jackie Chan is being strung up.

I dunno some of this feels very akin to witch hunting Salem-style. Are we looking for bigots, communists etc. under every rock & cranny these days? *sigh..

* i realize I'm going to get flamed for this.. but I'm just wary of what I see (regardless of how anyone feels about the issues at hand).. If someone makes a completely ridiculous and illogical comment why can't we just let the words stand (or fall) for themselves?

That's media today, and it will never change!! As a celeb you have to watch every word you say or you'll get roasted. One word out of context and you're screwed. Like when Obama was on Leno and said the special olympics comment, he didn't mean it that way against disabled people but was skewered for it. With the media hanging on their every word, it will never change. Mind you I agree with Miss America whatever being lambasted, I think she deserves that for her comments. And when you're in the public eye, watch out! As one judge put it: "She lost the crown because she wasn't able to convey compassion for ALL the people that, as MISS USA, she would be representing," Moakler writes on her Celebrity MySpace blog. "And if YOU like it or not, gays and lesbians make up this country as well. THIS is why we have judges, so they can find the RIGHT woman who obtains these qualities." I agree with that judge 100%!!

When you discriminate, people are gonna hate on you.

What I don't understand is why people are upset about getting a ticket in the first place. YEAH it sucks, costs us $$ but most of the time, if we get a ticket WE are in the wrong. They don't hand out tickets for nothing. The 3 times in my life I received a speeding ticket I was polite and cordial to the officer, I was speeding so it was my fault. Why would I be rude to them? They're doing their job and making the streets a safer place. When I went to my medical in TO and my car was getting hooked up to the tow truck, I ran outside profusely apologizing for not reading the sign correctly and begged them nicely to let it go on a ticket. They did and the Toronto parking enforcement gave me a $70 ticket which I paid the next day. I thanked them. They were also doing their job, it was my fault clearly. So why get mad at people who are doing their job when it's YOUR fault in the first place you were ticketed.

A size 12 also isn't plus sized. I'm a 12 and sometimes even a 14 but I've never had to shop in the plus size department. I'm on the taller side for a woman I guess, even though I'm only 5'7". I definitely could be a lot thinner than I am, this is true...but if she's a 12 she's not plus sized. (in my opinion..I certainly don't feel that way)

Regardless, I'd be calling corporate or writing a letter. Disgusting customer service.

I think because sometimes at Winners and stores like that she finds clothes in the "plus size" section but they have so many different sizes in the "plus size" section it's hard to put yourself in a category like that.

Good idea about writing a letter to corporate!

Aww Jill that's too bad. I have been there and done that. Some people will say whatever they're thinking and aren't very tactful. I think for me, the worst is when they're sneering at me down their nose like "nothing in here will fit you honey!" Those are the kind of stores I don't even like to go in. Some people are so rude! As a side note, I had a thyroid condition for awhile, and I heard of a natural supplement called Armour. Docs down here in the US are using it to raise thyroid levels instead of traditional meds cause it works better. I'm not sure if it's available in Canada, but if I still had a thyroid problem it's definitely something I would try because of all the good results I've heard.

Yes I guess her Momma never taught her "if you have nothing nice to say, don't say it" LOL!! Thanks for the info about Armour, as nothing has worked for her thus far. Will inform her about this!

This vent is on behalf of my sister, I'm upset for her mad.gif Well she went to Winners last night trying on clothes and she's a plus size. Anyway she was bringing back items to the fitting room attendant and the customer ahead of her returned 2 dresses my sister thought was nice. So she said "oh can I see that dress it's nice" and the attendant said "no honey, this dress is way to small for you, you seem to be a size 16 or 18" she was shocked the girl said that to her so she left and bawled her eyes out in the car. WHO says that especially to a customer!??! (plus she's not even that size she's a 12 but that is irrevelant!) Her husband was so mad he called the store manager today to complain about the attendant. The manager apologized profusely and sent them a $25 gift card, but the damage is done to her feelings.

Ah, E, the hurt of what is supposed to be a good friend.

I'm having similiar troubles at the moment. I had a really good friend here in NJ who was more like family then friend. We used to live in the same town and hang out on the weekends.

Then he got a girlfriend, one he had dated before, and I've hardly seem him since. He makes plans with me and either doesn't call me before we are supposed to meet or doesn't show up. He has known my husband since he was 1, too, so it makes it even worse.

He texted me yesterday, on my birthday, complaining about how he was at a dave mathews band concert with sara he didn't want to be at after he jilted my on Friday when he was supposed to come with me to see my brother.

He didn't even realize it was my birthday.

I decided I'm not even going to acknowledge him at this point. It's not worth talking about because he doesn't like talking about anything below surface level so I'm just going to let it roll off my back.

So I know how you feel E. It sucks.

Grrrr! That's one of my pet peeves - when a single person starts dating and suddenly drops everything/everyone around them that made them the person they were when they were single. No matter whether I'm single, dating or married, I ALWAYS make time for my friends! Then if you break up, you've lost your friends and your life will suck.

Try CCLEANER, It's a free registry cleaner and gets rid of all the temp files you may have gotten. HitManPro is a great free scanner for malware and virus'. It uses a bundle of free scanners to remove stuff. MalwareBytes is a great scanner that finds stuff that others haven't. It's free to try, but it will eventually prompt you to purchase it. So, just use it, then uninstall it and re-download/install when you need it. I wouldn't use geek squad or any of those that they have at chain stores. I don't want children nor do I need them. However, in the unlikely event I did have kids, I wouldn't allow them to run all over the place, yelling and screaming and messing with anything they can reach. That's not only incredibly rude, but it can -- and most likely will -- cause problems between family and friends. Being so permissive could potentially harm the children as well, considering that a large part of a person's growth and development is dependent on their parents.

Kids need to know that the parent is the boss. What the parent says is the final say in matters. Whether or not the parent's ruling is "fair" is irrelevant. Parent aren't there to be a child's "buddy." If that means playing the "bad guy," then so be it.

I'm not completely without a heart, so I know young children need to be given some leeway. They don't always obey (who does?) and more often than not, it's their lack of an attention span and increasing boredom that causes problems. There's a difference, however, between acting up once in a while and doing it on a regular basis.

I realize this may be a sensitive topic for some here. I am not commenting on your children or your parenting abilities. If you love children, then that's great. I'm not suggesting anyone should change their viewpoint.

I don't care for children when they're a nuisance. Unfortunately, we can't always dictate what kids will do, say or how they're respond to certain stimuli. Because of this fact, I don't want children. The very last thing I want to do is become what irritates me so badly.

It sounds like you're talking about a dog, not kids. Everything you state is "easier said than done".

I agree with Nevada. It's really easy to criticize and get angry with the kids/parents, but walk a day in their shoes. Then you might see how difficult it is to raise and discipline kids. I don't have any yet, but have great respect and sympathy for parents.

My car is cursed. It's a 2005 Mazda 3, and 2 weeks after I got it, a rock smashed into the windshield requiring me to get a new one. 3 months later, it's winter and I'm driving to Montreal on the 401. A giant block of ice flew off the roof of a truck and hit my windshield, it cracked it so hard I swerved and nearly had an accident. Had to replace it in Kingston as it was too damaged to drive safely. A year later another rock, crack, new windshield. I swear my insurance company got suspicious. I finally replaced it right before I moved, I'm now on my 4th windsheild and *knock on wood* so far so good....

Oh and about the $25,000 average cost of a wedding - that's nuts! We are budgeting $10,000 and that's all our own $$. If our parents are kind enough to contribute something, that's great but we are NOT expecting a dime from them. We are grown adults and can save/pay for our own wedding. I already bought my Martha Stewart invites at Walmart for $10 a box, got 2 boxes! I do them on my computer! They are lovely. No need to spend tons of $$.

Wow, alot of venting and good discussion going on today!

Nev - I cannot believe Ethan's teacher. Really. What he wrote is insightful and I don't understand what is wrong. Maybe his teacher is an extremely patriotic person or something, but I also wonder why "God Bless America" is said all the time and on bumper stickers and painted on houses (yes I've seen that). His point of view is very smart for a child of his age.

Amanda - I love reading your bridezilla stories, because they are shocking! If my sister said those things to my friends, I'd kick her a$$!! I can't believe you're all expected to pay so much for the shower, what ever happened to a shower at someone's house with tea and sandwiches!? And the McDonald's thing is SO out of line, is that sort of sarcasm necessary!? Now when you say 2 girls have been fired or whatever from their duties, was that the bride or MOH's decision? And will it ruin the friendship b/w them?

Re: Telemarketers - yes they are super annoying, but that's why I have caller ID. I just don't answer if I don't recognize the #. I can't bring myself to be rude or hang up, because they have a job to do even if it's annoying.

I started going grey in my early 20's - colouring your hair is no fun. Hopefully it was just a - one off thing - and you won't have to colour your hair until you're 70 good.gif

It was pure white, not even grey.... my Grandma on Mom's side didn't ever turn grey, it was wierd. She died at age 80 with a full head of raven hair. I hope to take after her!
