AND my current dentist JUST got digital exrays.. ummmm it's been that way at my dentists in canada for YEARS! smile.gif

My dentist in Canada had a tv too right above the chair - I loved it! (except of course when the dentist leaned way over and blocked the view or the water sprayer thing misfired and got water all over my glasses!). Our dentist here doesn't have that - but one of the offices has a bird feeder attached to the window so I get to watch birds instead! laughing.gif

Krikit, that is normal for me too - I call to make an appointment with a new doctor and they tell me someone will call me back after they confirm that they accept my insurance - and then they tell me how much 'extra' I need to pay over and above what my insurer covers. I have an ongoing argument right now with the gynecologist. They said I needed to pay extra after they talked with my insurance company - but the insurance company says that I don't- and the difference between their price and the negotiated insurance price is what they charged me so they are basically violating their agreement with our insurer.

Ah, the JOYS of US healthcare!

Ugh speaking of dentists, I had made one 6 months ago for my son. Anyways I went up to Canada and completely forgot about it. They called me while I was up there and told me my son had an appointment at 4:00 that day, so I asked if I could reschedule because I was in Canada and forgot about it. The lady said: "No" and told me that because Ethan missed his appointment I was basically banned from that office. She even said that someone called me to confirm a few days prior and I said confirmed... well I most certainly did not confirm #######. smile.gif

I mean how ridiculous is that? Whatever, he's still somehow on my mom's dental plan up there so we got him in and taken care of.

Ohhhhh. That makes sense, Jill. I went to a new dentist appointment a while back and they kept me waiting for ages. I finally went back to the desk to ask what was the hold-up and they told me they hadn't finished verifying my insurance yet. This was 1.5-2 hours later. I told them to cancel the appointment and I left. For that, and other reasons. The place was ICE cold and they had a huge screen with a movie playing where men were beating the ####### out of each other in a very graphic way. I thought that was very tasteless given that the place was full of kids and seniors. I never went back.

Oh gosh, how lovely unsure.gif I guess this is what we have to get used to down here, not being accepted somewhere until our insurance is verified. No insurance, no service! That reminds me of no shirt, no service laughing.gif

She took down all my information.... meaning name, address, insurance information and said someone from that department would call me back within the next day or two to schedule an appointment. blink.gif Does that seem normal to the Americans in the crowd.... or anyone with experience with the American system? unsure.gif

She was found 100 blocks away from the house. But upon arrival, the vet examined her and is pretty sure she has mammory cancer with a poor prognosis. CanadaUS to Canada calling . . . Cell Phone Providers?
We use Sprint here. We don't get charged for sending texts to Canada (I didn't realize others did! ohmy.gif) But the option that works the best for us is to use Skype on our cell phones.

We have an account with Skype called Skype-To-Go. (http://www.skype.com/allfeatures/togo/)

It's $2.95 a month, and you can call using your cell phone to Canada (unlimited). We just wait until evenings or weekends so we don't use up our cell plan minutes, call the skype-to-go number, and then it asks you to dial the international number you like.

It has been the best option for us.

In Canada though, we have a plan with "Win-tel" for landlines, and its 25cents a call to anyone in Canada or the US, it doesn't matter how long you talk for, its just 25cents a call.

Anyway, that's the way we roll, and it works out pretty well for us smile.gif

all down to money, my friends. Well, the "distribution" of money, actually. In Canada, the transportation, road management, design and construction, etc. budgets for cities and municipalities is huge. Our tax dollars are well spent in Canada.

In the US, good luck knowing where the money goes but I can tell you it's not to your roads, transportation, signage, etc. It goes to paying for lobbyists, schools, state vehicles, etc.

How many times have you waited at a traffic light here in the US for 2 minutes...3 minutes? In most of the areas I've been in, unless it's a large city, they have very little transportation management so..nothing is properly programmed. It is pre-programmed and never changed, n o matter if an area grows over time and has increased traffic.

I agree with you sister! And what's up with the lack of street lights? I'm so used to Toronto where you can walk down the street at night and see where you're going. I never even really thought about it or noticed it. Here it's so darn dark at night I can barely see where I'm going. I'm going to have to get a flashlight or something. It makes driving difficult too. I'm just not accustomed to it.

That's SO true! When my Dad came to visit, he pointed out how dark the streets were! Even on our street there are only maybe 2-3 streetlights and even on the main roads it's really dark. That's odd.

wow.. i'm stunned by the news these days.. is it just me or are people becoming more and more intolerant each and every day? It looks like we are merging into a society of 4 or 5 issues, and if you happen to fall on the wrong side of the popular opinion or you hold a dissenting view you are publicly humiliated and scorned. Wow.. I'm just kinda stunned really over the whole Miss America thing, and now even Jackie Chan is being strung up.

I dunno some of this feels very akin to witch hunting Salem-style. Are we looking for bigots, communists etc. under every rock & cranny these days? *sigh..

* i realize I'm going to get flamed for this.. but I'm just wary of what I see (regardless of how anyone feels about the issues at hand).. If someone makes a completely ridiculous and illogical comment why can't we just let the words stand (or fall) for themselves?

That's media today, and it will never change!! As a celeb you have to watch every word you say or you'll get roasted. One word out of context and you're screwed. Like when Obama was on Leno and said the special olympics comment, he didn't mean it that way against disabled people but was skewered for it. With the media hanging on their every word, it will never change. Mind you I agree with Miss America whatever being lambasted, I think she deserves that for her comments. And when you're in the public eye, watch out! As one judge put it: "She lost the crown because she wasn't able to convey compassion for ALL the people that, as MISS USA, she would be representing," Moakler writes on her Celebrity MySpace blog. "And if YOU like it or not, gays and lesbians make up this country as well. THIS is why we have judges, so they can find the RIGHT woman who obtains these qualities." I agree with that judge 100%!!

When you discriminate, people are gonna hate on you.
