I don't know if this has been added to the thread yet but here it goes:

Hubby calls to order pizza...."I'd like to order a jumbo pizza with light sauce, italian sausage, pepperoni, extra cheese and tomatoes on one side"...

Pizza guy, "which side do you want the cheese on, left or right?"

Hubby, "huh?"

lol....my son said, "when you get the pizza, open it up turn the pizza around and tell them that they put it on the wrong side...you want your money back!"

Too funny! NEVER have I been asked that in Canada!

Actually it was a Guelph thing, didn't live in Windsor until College and that's when I noticed Canadians pronouncing it as Zed instead of Z.

I've lived in Guelph almost my whole life and I say "Zed". My daughter had to do a vision screening test here in California for school in August, and when she read the Z's she said "Zed" and the person marked her wrong for every one. If she had failed the vision test I would have said something but she passed even having been marked wrong for the Z's.

On another note, I was wedding dress shopping last month at David's Bridal in Modesto and was waiting for one of their salespeople to help me. She was taking a long time so I asked the greeter where the washroom was. The woman looked really confused and said "the what...?". I said "washroom". There was an awkward moment and she said "I don't understand....". Then my daughter said "THE TOILET". To which she responded "Oh... the RESTROOMS... they are through that hall on your left." Wow. blink.gif

That one gets me.... is it hard to figure out what we mean when we say washroom? Bathroom, restroom, etc. they all end in room, and washroom makes more sense because you wash up after. I don't go to the toilet to rest, thank you very much! Restroom makes less sense to me

He was pissed that this guy knew how to speak English but refused to do it in a English speaking city and province. Sorry for knocking on the french, but this previous post reminded me of that...

It's incidents like those that give the French-Canadians a bad name. I was once at a service area in Quebec when an english-speaking person came in and tried to order something. (I got the impression they were American but I could be wrong.) The employees all pretended that they couldn't understand or speak english, even though they could. I know this because they were talking about it to each other in French (while he was standing there). I ordered for him. So uncalled for.

My girlfriend in college wanted to go to Quebec as she liked visiting there. She knew I spoke no french what so ever and said when we went (we never did get around to it) that she wanted me to pretend like I was an American. She told me that if they knew I was American and didn't know french they would be a lot more understanding and would speak English in most cases. She said if they found out I was canadian and didn't speak french then that was a whole different story and I would be treated very rudely. So she kept saying, remember if we go, you are an American...

I bet you loved that, didn't you Warlord laughing.gif

We were at a car dealership the other day on a car search. The salesman asked if there'd be a trade-in. I said yes if we get a good price for it so he asked me what it was. I said "A ZX2." He said "How do you spell that?" I said "Z. X. 2." unsure.gif He went blink.gif . My husband looked up and said "Zee X2." laughing.gif

That's hiliarious! My new last name ends in a Z, so I constantly have to remind myself to say Zee when spelling it out. I know Zed is going to slip one of these days!!

The other day at work I said, Mobile like Mo-bye-le and my 2 coworkers looks at me like I had 2 heads... so i was like, sorry I meant 'Mobull' - and they were like, haha we knew what you meant, but it just sounded so cute!

laughing.gif too funny, I actually had the zed zee convo with my hubby yesterday driving back to the US. I was listening to my favourite Toronto radio station Z103.5, but on the radio they say zee 103.5 and I was wondering why, since it's a Canadian station

^^ Me too, but you'd think they'd figure it out. BathROOM, restROOM, washROOM, I don't think it would take a genius to figure out what we mean when we ask where the washROOM is.

Didn't happen to me, happened to my best friend who was dating an American at the time.

She was at a convention for her boyfriend's university and one of his best friends kept following her around, asking where her pet moose was. She tried to tell him she didn't have one, but he wouldn't listen. My friend is an INCREDIBLE actress and, frustrated, she finally turned around and burst into tears. The guy asked her what was wrong and she said "My pet moose died right before I came here, okay?"

The guy turned BRIGHT red, apologised, and bought her a bunch of plushies from one of the vendors at the convention.

Know what's strange? Heinz ketchup in the U.S. tastes completely different than Heinz ketchup in Canada. It's saltier and tangier, not as sweet. I find it strange because Heinz is known internationally for its unique taste...yet it obviously has a different "unique" taste in at least two different countries! I'm going to miss the Canadian Heinz ketchup...to the point that I might actually buy a couple of jumbo Costco-sized ketchups from a Canadian Costco and bring 'em down with me.

Yup, I like my ketchup...and it's gotta be Heinz! Canadian Heinz!

If you're moving somewhere with Trader Joe's nearby, they make an amazing organic ketchup, sans HFCS. Tastes just like Canadian Heinz!!

I looked it up, for some reason, I was interested in reading everyone stories again. The first time I read it I didn't really know anyone very well, but after hanging around here for about a year now I feel like I can identify everyone a lot better. Anyways, there was a couple in there who met getting cancer treatment (pg.3)... and I just notice that he died last month sad.gif So sad!! Their story was so lovely. I get really, really annoyed when people don't vote!! Usually these are the same people who complain about the politicians, etc.

Thats what bothers me too. My husband votes for the nation but not his state.

But hey he doesn't have to work here, whereas I do. He goes to Philadelphia every day to his great job, he has no complaints really and doesn't understand what it's like to see a huge portion of your pay cheque just go. I have never been taxed so hard.. and I'm Canadian. laughing.gif

Too bad you couldn't vote on behalf of him since you work in NJ laughing.gif The NJ race got alot of attention nationwide!!

I don't even know who I would have voted for. I don't identify with either party really. Who's the lesser of the two evils is what most people around me were asking.

I am all for social programs, but I think they need to be regulated and governed. You can't just throw money at people and organizations without really looking at where it's going. Hey there's some more jobs right there... tongue.gif

I don't know too much about either candidates, but I do know that the guy that won publicly discussed his, ahem, distaste for same sex rights. He wants to keep NJ's "moral" compass in check, idiot. So, I would have voted for the Democrat, based upon that.

$30 for a reusable bag?! blink.gif They are usually a dollar or two, where I shop. I have like a dozen reusable shopping bags in my trunk, so I never need to worry about bags. I love Trader Joe's though, because they give nice sturdy paper bags.

As for hospitals, all the ones I've been to you have to pay for parking. When I volunteered in the Oakville Hospital, they gave me a parking pass though, as of course I wouldn't pay to volunteer.

Well, things were getting desperate so we ventured outside to see if we could fix the water situation (in the pitch dark). Ashamedly, we brought two buckets, and we were going to fill them from the horses water trough so we could flush the toilet. Yes we live in the sticks. . . . . .

So as we were walking with our lone flashlight and two buckets we heard some water running. We searched through the 8 foot high grass and found the leak. Fixed that. And ta-da we have water at the house.

Apparently, our plumbing is tied into our landlord's horses plumbing and if they get most of the water, we get none. Yup, we live in the sticks. good.gif
