Hi gang,

I joined the YMCA last Friday and have worked out 5 times since. I still weigh the same /sigh. Hopefully results will start appearing soon!

Yes you have to be patient, results don't appear overnight! It can take weeks or months, but don't give up whatever you do or get discouraged, it's too soon for that!

No he's not and I fully understand why - he didn't have a nice day. No question he could do the work and some of the perks of the job were quite nice - but really, if you find that the people you are going to be working with aren't - great - yeah.

That sucks! But isn't the loser the one who is leaving, so he wouldn't have to deal with him ever? Or is everyone there losers. I'm sure he'll find something else!

I received one with my Canadian MC too. boo. Haven't used it yet, though. Though I just gave the number to my daughter in Canada. Her wedding dress has arrived so the balance is due. Yeah, the chip and pin thing can get pretty annoying when you're paying your dinner bill and things. You have to enter your pin the same as you do for your debit card and that means going up to the desk if they don't have a portable keypad. Not all of the cards have it yet, though.

Yeah, I think it will be a tad annoying too. Although, I pretty much always use American Express now - airmiles woot!!

Yeah, I guess it's silly to be scared of them, they are pretty cute - just some irrational thing. At the time I was living next door to my Mom, who grew up on a farm and I would call her if I thought I heard one and she would come over and check it out.

Good morning all

Carla, that does not sound like fun at all - why was the woman confronting you?? I think sometimes people who don't do something all the time really underestimate the job - like the guy we hired to rake the yard, which was large. Although I told him and asked him to drive by and I even sent pictures I think. The difference is he could not have been nicer.

I lived in an apartment once, a long time ago, that had mice (i'm scared of mice) - we used feed stuff in the cupboards, which I tied shut. It was awful. It's so hard in an apartment because you have no control over the miles of area outside your little cave! I believe I did eventually get them under control but I can't remember - either that or we moved!

I had mice in my apartment in college in Barrie. It sucked sooo much. Live traps are good I guess, but do you know how many mice there are? They breed, they have babies, they carry disease and I know they're animals but the whole live trap thing just doesn't seem to work and becomes redundant after a while. Also you have to take them pretty far away from their homes to make sure that they don't return.

I did the whole live trap thing and just found it tedious. After about a month I just began putting out the poison. I bought little cups and put the pellets in them. It was always weird, I'd put the cups in the cupboards and check back about a half hour later and the poison would be all gone. Within that time frame each cup was empty.

Also you could speak to the landlords, it's also their responsibility to get rid of pests and they may hire someone to come in and do it for you.

Good luck Jill... having mice is no fun.

Ugh.... I don't know how many there are, I hope it's not a little family. I found a bag of popcorn ripped open (bite marks) and the popcorn was dragged about in the cupboard... I had it on the floor of the pantry, not knowing there were mice or I would never put food on the floor area! There were no droppings or anything, so the only evidence is the popcorn bag. I haven't actually seen them. I also bought those "screamers" that you plug in so maybe they all ran away already?! (wishful thinking...)

Good idea re: landlord... I'm going to send her an e-mail.

Oh and from the weird weddings department.

My Niece and her boyfriend went to a wedding on Saturday. The groom works in the same department as my Niece's boyfriend.

So they get there and find out that the guests are expected to take turns bartending. To top that off, there is a tip jar on the bar and the money is to go to the bride and groom.

So tacky laughing.gif

They ended up working for about two hours. She would just like to go to a 'normal' wedding. Oh and btw, 'family' was excluded from bartending duty.

Oh my gosh that is so cheap and rude!

So I went to the CNE today, and thought of my VJ friends twice. Once because there were Llamas in the farm area and the other time because they had those hot waffles with ice cream in between, we were talking about those a few days ago. I really miss Canadian colourful currency and how you can easily tell the bills apart laughing.gif I went to Rite Aid and used debit, did $20 cash back. The clerk gave me 2 bills which I stuffed in my wallet. When I got home, I realized she gave me 2 twenty dollar bills - I assumed she gave me 2 tens when she handed me back 2 bills. So I drove all the way back to return the $20. Of course, if in Canada, I would have immediately recognized the bright bills and known straight away

We went to the laundrymat today - hmm, anyway, we hadn't washed any clothes in like over a week plus I wanted to wash the quilt and comforter etc - so off we went. It is only around the corner from here. In fact, the last time I went to the laundrymat it was the same one - when we lived in this apartment complex like 8 years ago!

Thing I like about a laundrymat - big machines that wash quite nicely and big dryers - so you get a lot accomplished.

Things I don't like - i'm sure you all already know.

There is a laundry room here in this building, would just take too long to do all that stuff, but we will use it from now on. I think our little trip cost us about $20.

The landromat at my old apt had little debit cards, so luckily I never needed coins. I do miss the large front loaders to wash my comforter that's for sure! I use my in-laws for large loads, since we do have a normal size washer/dryer in this place

Ever since Mel and I decided that we were going to get married, we've had an ongoing converstation about where we were going to live. I had initially volunteered to move to Canada, but seeing as my job paid quite a bit more, and the fact that she was completely fed up with snow, we decided that it would be best for her to move here. Outside of a couple of stintes in Derry, N.Ireland, Valencia Spain, and Clemson, S. Carolina, i've lived my entire life in Los Angeles. I love it here. I love the real cultural diversity and especially the food. But this weekend, we started looking at moving, seeing as our lease is up at the end of October, and our new irritating neighbor has been loud and obnoxious again, we started our search. Everything is so ridiculously expensive if you want to live near the beach. Then on a whim, Mel looked up what we could get for what we are paying now in London, Ontario where she's from. Good god, we could afford a 3 bedroom, 3 bath townhouse with a backyard for what we pay for our tiny apartment. So, we have expanded our search of where we are looking to move. For right now, we're going to stick in Los Angeles area..... my job's benefits are really too good. I like my job, and love the people, but we are looking more long-term at moving to Canada now. She has put her foot down though, NO to Churchill Manitoba (I love polar bears), No Thunder Bay (I just love the name), No to Moosejaw (Again, just love the name), and HELL NO to Yellowknife (I watch far too much Ice Road Truckers). But then again, we're also looking at the Atlanta area too. Who knows at this point laughing.gif

My hubby and I went through the same thing, he was also willing and fine with moving to Toronto but his job was way better than mine so that's how I ended up here. I think in the future we will end up in Canada too, we're waiting for me to become a citizen (maybe 4 years or so?) so I won't lose my PR status

My in-laws are like that too, I found it a bit wierd. They all just go into the kitchen and grab food when they feel like it, they never plan meals or sit down to dinner. I am structured and like my 3 square meals a day plus snacks, also we eat most of our meals at the dining room table. I don't like eating in front of the TV, because then we're not conversing and my hubby tells me about his day over dinner and vice versa, we have nice chats over meals. Once in a while if there's something exciting on TV then we will, but generally we eat at the table. I grew up not being allowed to eat in front of the TV, the family always sat at the dining table so that's what I'm used to. Also, I find when I do eat in front of the TV I don't pay as much attention and eat too much because I'm paying more attention to the TV not enjoying my meal

Does anybody else remember when full service gas stations were the norm? You would drive into the gas station and don't you dare touch those pumps! The uniformed guy would come out and wash your windows and check your oil while the gas was pumping. Then he would give you points towards your free dishes or free Tide with a free towel inside or whatever. lol

Or you would get a tiger tail for your bike for putting a tiger in your tank at Esso!

There's still one of those in good ol' Bronte! At the corner of Bronte Rd. and Lakeshore! A full serve, they check your oil, wash your windows, and the gas is usually cheaper at that! Called Pioneer, you don't find them around much anymore
