Well I decided to go against the grain and I'm not having a wedding party. Besides my sister as MOH and Glen's brother as best man. I was going back and forth about it. I would have asked 4 people to be bridesmaids. One, my sister in law who is 19 and a spoiled brat who acts 12. My MIL actually asked me (more like pleaded) NOT to ask her daughter to be a bridesmaid, as she will "ruin my day" (her words). Then I had 3 friends to ask. One of them, was not really that supportive of my move here and ever since I moved, NEVER has once called me. I always make the effort, call/e-mail her, etc. I'm fed up of making the effort, why would I ask her to be a bridesmaid? She's not being a friend to me. The other 2 friends, last time I was in Canada were complaning about how much they hate being a bridesmaid as it cost too much $$, too much hassle, etc. One recently turned down the request of another friend to be a bridesmaid as she said she couldn't afford it. Well obviously I don't want to ask them now. It sucks because I did want to have a bridal party more for my husband. I think he's disappointed because he has some close friends he wanted to ask, but what can I do. I just hate DRAMA.

Wedding Party drama is among the worst! It ranks right up there with 12 & 13 year-old drama! HA!

Here's the thing... if you don't have a wedding party, then you don't run the risk of having people back out on you with a month left (AFTER you (the bride) bought the dress for your friend to help out as much as you could) and then your fiance tells you the SAME day that one of his friends won't be coming over b/c he has had over a year to get a passport to come to the US from Canada and now (with 32 days left) says he can't afford to get a passport.

*sigh* I hate drama too. Wedding drama is the worst. I'm frustrated that my friend from Idaho didn't start saving for her ticket last summer (when I asked her) and that Duncan's friend didn't plan ahead for a passport a year ago (when he was asked). When people have a year's notice, there is almost no excuse, if they said YES back then.

Here's the ironic part... neither person would have to worry about food (rehearsal dinner - paid for, breakfast - included in hotel room rate, dinner at wedding - paid for b/c it is the reception, day after breakfast - again included with hotel, day after lunch - provided b/c we're having a luncheon at the house so we can open gifts & hang out with family/friends & chat & share pics), the hotel is $105/night and the rooms would be shared so actually $53/night, and I bought her dress and Duncan was going to pay for his tux.

ARGH.

Exactly! There are so many things that could go wrong, so many reasons for drama. I am not into that at all, I don't want anyone's ####### to ruin anything. The only way to make sure that happens is to forgo the bridal party. I just know I'm gonna hear about how they can't afford it, etc. and I just don't want to deal. I understand that being a bridesmaid can get expensive, so I just won't ask. Now, watch them be offended because I didn't ask laughing.gif You can't win, you know?

I had my last shower today. Yea! Those are over! lol But, now we're getting boxes delivered in the mail. Should I start opening them now so I can send Thank You notes right away or should I wait until the day after the wedding and we can do all of the thank you notes then? Perhaps we could open the boxes/gifts that are being delivered from friends/family who will not be attending. The gifts that come in from people who will be attending, we hold on to???

Hmmm...?????

I think you should wait to send thank you notes after the wedding. Then you can thank the person for the gift and coming to your special day! Even if some people aren't coming, you can even just do all the notes in one shot.

I got a thank you card once like a month before a friend's wedding, as she picked up the gift from the registry that I got. I just thought it was odd, getting the card before the wedding

Question for those of you doing 2 'ceremonies' even if one is just a civil one. Do you plan to 'dress' up for the civil ceremony? I am still trying to decide what I want to do. lol

I didn't dress up too much, just a skirt and sweater. Nothing too fancy!

I'm not even sure how it's going to work with me walking down an 'aisle'. We haven't entirely decided how formal we're going to make our bigger celebration. We're not sure if we want to have another ceremony or not... The legal ceremony in the U.S. will be us and our parents, and I think at that point I'll have my dad walk my down the aisle. I'm his only daughter, and I think he'd be sad to miss the opportunity.

I have a niece and nephew... both really young (niece is just over a month old, and nephew is 2 and a 1/2), which I thought would be neat if they could be ring bearer and flower girl, but I don't think they will be at our big family celebration as they are moving to Cambodia later this year and probably won't be back for the wedding. I wasn't able to attend my brother's wedding (my only sibling too), and now it looks like he won't be able to attend mine... great.. huh.gif

Sorry, went off a bit... lol

Has anyone found a good wedding planner that ISN'T all about "traditional" weddings? I like to keep notes/lists, because my memory is HORRIBLE, but I haven't found anything suitable to my tastes. I want something that will give me interesting off-beat, creative tips... but I don't really want a planner that says 'you have to do it this way!' sad.gif

I don't think any wedding planner should say "you have to do it this way"! So many weddings these days are not traditional, and it's all up to you how you want it done. I'm doing lots of things that aren't tradtional, but I don't have a planner I'm doing it all myself.

Yeah I definitely said no to the bachelorette party then everyone got really upset, especially my MOH. So I gave in and said OK, but I said no strippers and no crowns! I got away without the strippers but I couldn't get out of the tiara. I believe my friend Liz said, "you said no crowns, its not a crown its a tiara!" So make sure you are really specific with your friends! I took the crown off several times but I kept getting yelled at. All in all, It was a very fun night! We went to the Fallsview casino and a couple bars inside. I'm not a drinker at all but everyone kept buying me drinks! It got a little out of hand. When someone brings you a drink you can't really say no...

No strippers ohmy.gif J/K laughing.gif We took my sister to the Fallsview for her bach, and ended up at Peppermints blush.gif But damn, those guys were hot!! haha we had a lot of fun.

I mailed off my invites today! It cost way more money then I thought. Thanks to the ribbon the envelopes were too big and I had to pay extra postage, and then sit there and affix 4 stamps to each envelope (the ones going to the US of A). To make it better, they were lickable stamps. Welcome to the 21st century Canada Post! Oh well, they ended up so pretty the extra money was well worth it. Even though my invites now have butterfly, caterpillar and dragonfly stamps all over them... laughing.gif

Here is the website with pics! http://www.celebrati...com/gallery.htm

The bottom pic is where we'd get married outside....

That's such a gorgeous place!! Ahhh, you're wedding is going to be so lovely! And its all inclusive too, even better! Less headache for you.

That's one of the main reasons I loved it - how nice it is, but the all-in factor is the best! Most places you have to add on tax and gratuities.... also this offers 5 hours open bar, the other places I've seen all offer 4....

so is that $2800 for all that??.. that is a good deal...

No crying.gif That's just the ceremony fee $2000 for outside and $800 for inside wacko.gif

But the way I look at it, we have a very small guest list. If we had 200 people, we could never afford this place! But with approx. 80-90, it will be OK!

OK ladies, advice time! So for my dress, I am not wearing your 'traditional' wedding style dress, with pouf, bustle, or crinoline. I just like simple, so I was thinking I may not even need to go to a wedding dress store.... I found these 2 online which I totally pictured myself in, elegant and plain. I really like them both, and the price is way under what I was willing to spend! Which one do you like more? I think it has to be ordered online, but if it doesn't fit I can return it in person at the store.

Sorry I'm not good at posting photos so here is the link:

Thanks for the website, will check it out.... so since you're supplying them, do you have to put them on yourself?

I asked if I could bring them in myself and she said that it wasn't a problem and there wouldn't be an extra charge, so hopefully not. Something to ask when I go down there on the 17th and before I buy everything. Worse case scenario they will charge for labor or I'll have some friends go there and do it. I'll still be saving some money! I wish I could go there and do it myself since I'm a little bit of a control freak, but there probably won't be time for that.

Our site quoted us a lower price for the chair covers ($4) then upped it to $6.50 in December when they decided to increase all the costs. We went and saw the site, then by the time we went to sign the contract they had already upped the price. I was willing to pay $4, but not $6.50! Its almost the principle of it. Its also annoying considering we are not exactly cheaping out on the menu or the bar. Its pretty standard stuff to have chair covers be an extra charge, but their charges are a little crazy. I actually wasn't planning on using chair covers at first and I don't really want them but they're banquet chairs are so darn fugly its a must.

laughing.gif I hear you there, in fact I've yet to see any nice banquet chairs.... I think fugly is a pre-requisite or something

A lot of the places that we looked at that charged extra for the chair covers ended up working them into the price once they realized we were getting an upgraded menu.

Jill I think you should really try to get them to include them. If you don't go for the most basic package, they should really be more willing to include them. If they don't include them, I wouldn't pay more than $3/chair cover. Most places that I went to that did charge, did it for $2/cover. If they aren't willing to include them, see if there is a local decorator that can do them for you cheaply - they will probably want your business and do a nice job, especially if you need your head table done up too.

Thanks for that tip! We are going next Saturday to put the deposit down, so I will try and get the cost included. I mean really, we are spending so much moolah there, you think they'd throw in some chair covers wacko.gif

Why do most places not offer chair covers as part of the regular cost? I don't get why they charge extra for chair covers. After all, they have them sitting there, why not put them to use?

My guess is the labor-intensive part to put them on, take them off, and launder them. Yeah, what a pain. The place where we're going to be doesn't even have any. We had to contract with someone to get them! But, I figure, the black and white linens are "standard" for where we'll be and no extra charge for specific colors. So, extra cost for specific colors will be spent on chair covers. The gal we're using for the chair covers added in the satin for no charge b/c we reserved so early. In addition, she's including plate chargers for the head table at n/c. All the tables will have white linens with black chair covers and white satin ties, while the head table will have white with black ties.

That sounds nice! I haven't asked yet how much they are at the place we're booking, but I know it's extra. Hopefully not too much extra, as I really do want the covers. Makes the room look so much nicer!

It's such a waste of electricity, plus this is not whisper quiet, so you go in there at night to brush your teeth, or go in to put your makeup on and you must listen to that fan. When we buy our next house, if it is wired like that, I will pay money to have it rewired.

Hey remember when I was telling you guys about Ethan looking up boobs and bums on dictionary.com? Well I was telling my husband about it on the way to DC on Wednesday and he said: "Oh yea he likes using the speaker part so that the computer says the word... I saw him do that he was pressing it over and over so all you'd hear was: ####### BOOB ####### BOOB.

I don't know why but I found that even more hilarious.

Oh yea... good morning.

Any big plans for tomorrow guys? I think we're going to the inlaws but the inlaws haven't returned our emails or phone calls. Which is only slightly annoying because I don't know whether we should plan something else or not... I love it when people assume we have nothing else better to do. Well.. we don't really but maybe we could find something better to do if I knew what was happening. tongue.gif

laughing.gif Have you had "the talk" with him or is he too young for the talk I guess right? That's so cute.

Well tomorrow going to the in-laws in the day, they are having a pool party/BBQ. At night, I'm hoping to catch some fireworks!

Good Morning all! I'm so homesick today, I remember last July 1 was so much fun. Went to a street party in Oakville, went to fireworks, etc. My Mom's birthday is tomorrow, and sad it's the first birthday of hers that I'm missing.

all she talks about is the Jonas Brothers ..lol

That was me, back in the day.... I was obsessed with the Backstreet Boys, saw them in concert over 10 times.... Actually the most recent was last summer, so maybe not really back in the day laughing.gif
