I agree that working out is a PAIN!! I don't enjoy it, who the hell does!? LOL but of course, I do it for my health and well being. It's extra important for me, not to lose weight but I have high blood pressure and osteoporosis at age 29!! If I don't exercise to keep my heart and bones strong/healthy, I WILL have health problems in a few years, that is a guarantee. I want to be strong and healthy, I want to have kids and be able to live a long life and not worry about having a heart attack or breaking a hip. So exercise and of course, healthy eating is so important to me. It's not about weight loss, as I have always been a smaller person but that goes to show you, weight doesn't matter. Even though I'm slim, I have health issues so exercise is a way to keep them in check smile.gif

I've seen that video! I feel so bad for her. I would probably just cry! I hope they did pre-ceremony photos laughing.gif

I was reading all the comments about gifts and household appliances... We made a registry, simply because everyone was asking what to get us and I a. felt bad asking for cash, and b. didn't want people to feel like they had to give a lot of cash. I got some really nice stuff, a slow cooker, blender, toaster, some baking trays and things like that... but they're all just sitting in our room in a pile! I don't have my own kitchen yet, so what do I do with everything in the meantime? It feels like a waste. The best gift was the Dyson vacuum I put on there and figured nobody would buy me. Its pretty sweet.

Just keep it in boxes until you get your own place I suppose.... Even the stuff we get, I won't open until we buy our house. I have alot of stuff as it is from my old apartment, and this place is too small with not alot of storage. So even if it sits in the attic for a few months, at least when we get our house I'll have all this new stuff to open!!

I'm doing a registry at Bed Bath and Beyond for the US guests... I know alot of people prefer to bring a gift, so I figured may as well pick out stuff we want. The Canadian guests I presume will likely bring cash, I'm not mentioning it though. If they don't bring anything, that's fine too! They are spending enough to come to my wedding

haha cool biggrin.gif Thanks! I'd love to go to Europe. i'm hoping we can make it work, even if it's a slightly delayed honeymoon. lol

As for appliances... are any of you familiar with Pampered Chef?!?! Well, they do 'gadgets' and cookware I'd say, more than appliances, but MAN their stuff rocks!! I heart.gif their can opener! laughing.gif

My friends asked for money for their wedding, mostly because they were moving to New Zealand like 2 weeks later and couldn't bring their gifts. They did it in a very nice way on their website, but didn't set up pay pal or anything LOL.

We don't have much of a registry, but one of our honeymoon hotels will take monetary gifts and put it towards our stay.

I think it's OK if someone explicity asks what you want, you can say money.... But it's so rude to TELL people that's what you want, and not to give anything else.... One time I got an invitation that said "envelopes only".... how rude!

I think a band could be something cool, depending on what type of venue you are using. If I remember correctly, you booked an event center right? We had ours at a hotel, so I didn't think a band would be really fitting to the location, the room didn't have a lot of extra space, and the people staying the night at the hotel probably would have hated us the next day! But for a big event center that specializes in putting on weddings and big parties, a band might be something to look into. If the price isn't outrageous and you love their sound then it could turn out really nice! And rather unique as well.

Yes we're at a wedding venue place.... I might see if we could see them in "action" before booking them, like sneak into a party where they're playing. I wouldn't book it without seeing them first!

I think it's incredibly rude if you ASK for money in your invitations. I was invited to a wedding and it said on it "envelopes only". Excuse me? That is so rude! If someone politely asks you what you would like, you can say you prefer money but never explicitly ask for it. That's just my opinion anyway.

I totally agree. I've even seen bridal shower invitations that say "money shower" - which I think is tacky. If I end up not registering, I'll just put nothing. Because honestly, I think most people would just give cash anyways if there was nothing listed. Or they will call me or my Mom and ask and then we will just say that I would prefer money, but anything is fine!

Whenever someone writes "money shower" on their bridal invitation, my Mom always buys them Corning Ware! She cracks me up!

wacko.gif Mom keeps on trying to convince me to have a bridal shower! I am NOT doing it!!!

Yup! It was incredibly tacky and rude! "Please make your gift in the form of a monetary donation." on the BOTTOM of the invite! The ceremony and reception were in the same place and the ballroom was absolultely beautiful, but the food, well I think everyone was unimpressed. The reception was at dinner time, not a lunch reception, they had sandwich meats, buns and cold salads for the dinner. It was not even summer, it was freezing cold in December. Then 2 bottles of wine on the table. Not even a thank you card for the monetary gift after the wedding either. The time on the invitation for the reception said 6 pm, so here we are thinking that the actual reception dinner started at 6 pm, instead there was an hour long cocktail hour, there was quite a gap in between the ceremony and it was a Sunday, so we thought maybe everything is starting earlier due to it being on a Sunday. I think it left alot of people guessing on what was going on and when. My parents were so ticked at everything and to top it off the cheque that they gave them was cashed the day after the wedding! and off for their honeymoon they went!! blink.gif

OMG are you serious!? That is the tackiest thing I have EVER heard. And for them to not send a thank you note? That is utterly rude

Yeah if we do go, its not going to be until like Tuesday or Wednesday the following week, give us a bit of a breather and I am sure some family might stick around until Monday. I want to go to Vegas so bad! Brad went last summer, so he knows all the good places to check out and stuff.

Another question for all the currently married ladies or soon to be married. People keep on telling me that wedding guests will give a "physical" gift, plus a monetary gift for your wedding. Some people have told me that they have gotten anywhere from 1000-10000 dollars from guests. We are not having a gift registry because of all the people travelling, but we will not refuse a gift either if someone wants to buy us something, although we prefer a monetary gift, all by WOM.
How many guests did you have? and Did you or are you having a gift registry? This sounds absolutely horrible, so please forgive me if I offend anyone, talking about money is well...tacky.. but can anyone share any ranges of money gifts from weddings of friends, family members?
I swear there needs to be a college class or a everything weddings for dummies...I need one!!! laughing.gif edit....there probably is, I just haven't found it yet! laughing.gif

We're not having a registry... I find weddings around here, people have a registry for the shower (I'm not having one tho) and just give cash for the gift. It's not spoken of, it's just assumed you give cash. Oh and I told my close friends who will be spending close to a grand each to be here.... I don't want ANY gift from them! I just want them there, that's my gift!

I can imagine how you feel Rhiann! I wanted to have a small civil wedding when I first moved to the US, and then save the big celebration until I could go back to Canada the following summer but they wouldn't have it! They said they wouldn't support a wedding that wasn't "real." So then I found myself planning a wedding and doing the visa stuff at the same time... It wasn't impossible, but it wasn't ideal either.

Winter weddings can be really pretty! Where will you be moving again? Somewhere that gets snow? I've seen some really nice wedding pictures in the snow.

I am in the same situation, my family was a bit more supportive of the idea to have the civil wedding first, then the ceremonial, but his family was totally against it. So here I am planning a wedding from 1000 miles away and I haven't seen my fiance since April!! I am quitting work a few weeks earlier than expected to get myself organized and deal with some of the wedding stuff before I move down, because there is going to be ALOT of stuff to do once I do get there. I'm so excited to see our wedding pictures because of the fall foliage in October!

We are currently trying to decide whether to take a mini-honeymoon after the wedding to Las Vegas as there is so many great deals right now with the economy being crappy, or save that money for our real honeymoon to Maui next year. If we went we would have to go to Vegas a few days after the wedding for prob 4 day/3night. I just hope we have both recovered from the stress and exhaustion of the wedding by then, I wouldn't want to sleep the first day away in Vegas! Any advice? I am on the fence right now about it, we should be able to afford it and all, with his bonus and my pension.. I just keep thinking what if? It takes forever to get my EAD.

That's so funny, as that's exactly what we were gonna do! Vegas after our civil. We didn't end up doing it, because of cost. We were just worried about money and it ended up being the right decision. We're saving for our wedding and honeymoon instead!

And I really wanted an outdoor wedding in May.

Thanks alot mom and dad. sad.gif

I'd hate to double post, but I talked to my fiance about it and he's not happy about it either.
Has anyone had to deal with parents who try to ruin your chosen date?

It's my day, not theirs... and now they're trying to back out on the dress I want crying.gif

Well, my parents also really wanted to be at our civil wedding. They said it was the "real" marriage and wanted to be there to see the signing of our marriage cert. But I insisted they don't come, it took a bit of discussion but I won in the end, LOL. I just explained that this wasn't our wedding, it was just between him and I for AOS purposes. We wouldn't have married that soon if it wasn't for AOS, that's the truth. We would have waited a year or two. Anyway, I told them it was private for us 2, we had a small exchange of vows inside the JOP's house and it was nice.

I found out later from my sister that my Dad and stepmom ALMOST came and surprised us that day.... my sister talked him out of it, she said I would have been really mad!
