If you haven't received an RFE for your medical yet and already have an interview date, I wouldn't really worry about it.

I received an RFE for just sending in the vacination sheet that I received from the medical back in Canada. All I had to do was go to a local US Civil Surgeon and she transcribed it for me for $40. This was all before they would approve my AP or EAD.

So if you have received your AP as well as EAD and haven't received a RFE, I really don't think you have to worry about it.

Jenni received an RFE at her interview for the medical I believe.... Her GC approval was set back a month because of that.

Quick question for those of you who have received your EAD and had to send the information to Canada for unemployment compensation.

Did you have to send it to anyone in particular? My husband has been completing the cards he has been getting but they are not to anyone in particular. Plus do they back date the money from when he stopped working or does the money start from when he was approved for the EAD? Just curious, thanks for any info smile.gif

No one in particular, I just faxed a copy of the EAD to "out of country claims" at the fax number I was provided.... They only pay you from the date you received the EAD, they don't back pay unfortunately. They used to pay before EAD was received, but it's since changed

Yup, you wait to be called and then they spray water all over your hands and then scan every finger about 3 or 4 times. Then they take your picture. It's pretty easy. Bring your marriage certificate and SSN. The finger printing was pretty cool actually. They let you see the screen!

Thanks! I never would have thought to bring the marriage certificate. Sounds easy enough!

I didn't bring my marriage cert, but I didn't change my name so I guess I didn't need it. And as Chad says, this will be the photo on your GC and you're allowed to smile!! haha my GC is the best I have, I got all dolled up for it laughing.gif

Hey Poppy,

No, AP is for multiple trips.... they give you 2 copies as the first time you use it, the border is supposed to keep 1 copy, and stamp the other and give it back. You use it when re-entering the US, not leaving. Then everytime you use it again, you use the 1 stamped copy and they stamp it again, etc. If you use it 5 times, it'll have 5 stamps. Saying that, I used mine at Queenston and the dude didn't keep his copy, he gave me both them back. I said aren't you supposed to keep one (as I read on VJ they're supposed to) and he said no he photocopied it, LOL. I only used it once as my GC came soon after.

As for EAD, it's normal to get 2 e-mails, not to worry! I bet you'll have it in the mail next week, 30 days is worst case.

Damn the DMV! I hope you hear something soon

Just starting to do my paperwork for AOS - filling out forms and gathering all the papers we will need. iv got most of the papers we need already its just the forms that are taking a bit to do. need to get an envelope as well. Anyone suggest a good kind to get or just a regular manila envelope? I was thinking to get the bubble envelope in the larger size cus last time we used a manila regular it seemd to be damaged in the post quite badly.

also had a quick question, about the AP do i need that when i get the 2 year green card still? if not i wouldnt do the extra paperwork really.

I just used a regular brown large envelope. As for the AP, no you don't need it once you have GC in hand. But, the cost includes AP and it's only one extra page to fill out! Makes sense to get it, just in case! What if you needed to get back home for an emergency or something, what if your GC takes awhile to process, etc. etc. It makes sense just to apply since it's included in the cost. You never know if you'll need it!!

Does anyone know if you can make an infopass appt prior to the 30 day mark at your local USCIS office to inquire about it? I am off work Monday Aug 31 and would really like to be able to go with my husband for his biometrics since he has no clue where to go and I really don't want to have to take another vacation day to mess with USCIS.

Even though it's hard to compare yourself to others, try not to.... just because other people got their bios who filed the same time as you doesn't mean yours is lost.... Your NOA was dated August 6 that was only a few weeks ago, so give it a bit more time before making an infopass appt. Some bio appts take longer than others

So I just got back from my interview...only took about 15 mins and the guy was really cool. Seemed like a bit of a gamer like us (hubby is behind me saying "not a gamer, more of a snowboarding Bro"), though we were the first couple he's interviewed that met on WoW. Oddness..

Anyway, easy questions, we had more than enough evidence and he was satisfied with that. Then he asked if I had the I693 (vaccination supp)...I said no, I hadn't been RFE'd for it and I sent in the one from my medical which was less than a year old.

He leaves the room for a couple mins..

Comes back and tells me that they have to have that sheet, and they will give me the RFE to come back with it on the 9th or Sept. He says we are lucky because they have DENIED people AOS for not having that sheet lately O.o He buttered up his superior and was able to just issue the RFE though. So now I have to go get the last of my effing gardisil shots (my 2nd one bruised me internally so bad I felt it 3 weeks later) and get my form filled out by a civil surgeon.

So I'm envious of all you that got transfered to CSC..I don't know why I didn't but now everything else is pushed back (ie getting my damn license, getting my SSN changed)

anyway, thats my vent...I should be happy it's over with, but I'm left feeling a bit down.

Damn, sorry to hear that! I can't believe he told you that they have denied AOS just for not having the sheet.... so many people get away with not doing it. Anyway, why not contact Dr. Arnold in TX instead of actually going to a civil surgeon and spending all that money

It's definitely true that AOS applications are being processed fast - I just received an email from CRIS saying they've ordered production of my green card. Only took two months, no interview because my file went through CSC.

Just as an FYI - I only sent in a copy of the vaccination report from medical, I didn't have it re-transcribed. But I also didn't require Gardasil shots, not sure if that makes a difference.

Wishing you all speedy approvals on AP/EAD/AOS! And thanks to everyone for all the helpful advice and tips I found on this forum - couldn't have gotten through this process without you. I can't follow timelines, it makes me absolutely insane! The reality is that your case is going to take as long as its going to take... it depends on a million different factors that seem unique to each person and each situation. Seeing how quickly someone is getting their GC, or how long it is taking someone else, just makes you antsy. I used this logic when I was waiting for my NOA2, never paid attention to Igor's list and I ended up getting my approval notice way quicker than I was expecting... It was like Christmas! laughing.gif

Blah, AOS, I'm not looking forward to it. I'm actually considering not getting the last garadisil shot before I file... it would only be 1 week overdue, and it will delay my filing time. I'm not sure if its worth it or not... any thoughts?

You may get an RFE if they notice that your third shot is within filing timelines, but I honestly don't think you will. From what I've read they only care that you started the series. Personally, I like to take my chances!

It's true about timelines, although the AOS is pretty accurate and much more consistent than NOA2s from my research so far. Some in the June filer's thread for AOS just got their GC approved in 45 days! Faster than their EAD! Crazy!

When you get your NOAs you'll get case numbers... when you have them, log them into USCIS and you can trace all 3 cases.

As for the interview, some people get approved on the spot and the GC mailed shortly thereafter, and others are told a decision will be made within 60 days time. So I guess it just depends

Maybe under Obama or when Castro dies, these restrictions will be relaxed. I mean really, what exactly is the argument against it?

If you want a cheap-ish tropical vacation, I still say it's not worth the risk. Go to the Dominican Republic or Mexico instead.

If you go back and read the Nexus thread, you will see that when I went to my Nexus interview I was highly interrogated about my trips to Cuba prior to even meeting my husband. These trips were in 2004 and 2005, and even though it was a long time ago and I was perfectly legal in entering Cuba as a Canadian citizen, the BP Officer made it VERY clear that as a PR of the USA it is against the law for me to enter Cuba at any time and if I do so, I will be fully prosecuted to the extent of the law.

He was a jerk about it, but he was PRETTY darn clear.

QUOTE (warlord @ Aug 14 2009, 08:41 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I guess after reading all the responses it is a bigger issue then I had originally thought. The sence of betrayal to the fatherland and not really wanting to uphold the oath, still claiming the original nationality as your nationality etc, but getting the citizenship just for convience and not really standing behind what the oath is all about.

When I went in, I was prepared to give up my Canadian citizenship right there if I had to. It meant nothing to me and I was going in knowing I was going to become an American. Of course Canada doesn't make you lose your citizenship, but if it had come down to it I wouldn't have had a problem. I took the oath as it is. Would I bear arms to defend the US? Sure, if it came down to that (this is probably the biggest thing in the oath that people have issues with).

I guess I took the entire oath thing litterly and to the heart. I no longer carry a Canadian passport and not sure I'll even get it renewed again. When asked my citizenship, I proudly say Amercian. I don't even mention Canadian unless they ask where I used to live etc.

So yeah I can see people standing there taking the oath and really not beliveing or supporting what they say. One could always just stand there and not actually say the oath. In my ceremony there were 350 of us all trying to say the oath at the same time and it became quite funny with everyone at different parts. Some I know didn't even mouth the words at all. Maybe this was their way of standing there for it, but not personally committing to the oath, but it would have no impact on your outcome as no one checks if you really are saying it or not.

Everyone is different, and I know many Indian people seem to flock to get their citizenships, only to turn around and move right back to India. It's so common that many try and leave after they've filed the N-400 which they can't do. You begin to wonder about that and all they want is a saftey net in case something happens over there and they have to flee, so they use the US citizenship as a saftey buffer.

So you will always have people that won't take the oath very to heart or seriously, and then you'll have others like me who did take it seriously and had no problem mentally getting rid of the Canadian stigma at all. Since I never plan to ever move there again.

The US and Canada will probably never be at war with each other, so having to make a choice who to fight for (for some) would never be an issue, there won't be any trade embargo's or visiting embargos like Cuba with Canada preventing people from visiting if you are a citizen etc. So people won't have to worry about taking the oath and then thinking they would have to defend the US against the crazy mounted Canucks with their wool hats and cases of Molson Canadian strapped to their waist holding seal clubbing sticks or anything...

I would never go to live in a country where the government does not take uniting families seriously. As an American citizen I would have thought you would be proud of the fact that the U.S. does take it seriously (in the cases of minor children and spouses).

It's not to be taken lightly. On the other hand I see your point about refugees from war torn countries. However if looked at realistically - due to the sheer volume - it would seem that if spouses and minor children were to go to the back of the line, that they would be waiting say 10-15 years to join their American spouses (Fathers/Mothers).

In that case you would see a lot of very frustrated and angry Americans methinks.

Bottom line - it is not about the rights of immigrants bow - it's about the right of U.S. citizens to bring their families to their home country.

Excellent way to sum it up yes.gif

The only crummy part about it is that it takes 3 months to get it... if the store doesn't have it sitting on their rack already. Which I highly doubt they'd have the dress I want with the colour accents I want. laughing.gif

I at least want the dress, my fiance and my mother needs to understand that. I'd probably give up the date I would like to get married if I could have the dress... but I probably wont get either things.

My day my foot.
It's just depressing. sad.gif

When you say she won't "let" you, too bad for her! Your an adult, and she can't not "let" you do what you choose. Once we all become adults, we can listen to our parents opinion but we do what we want! That's what I tell my parents laughing.gif

Well, after some thinking and talking to a friend in the US and showing her the dress I want and stuff, I think I've decided to go ahead with a ceremony in May.
Even if my parents don't come.

I don't care if the ceremony's only like 10 people big, I dont care if I dont have professional photography.
I want to just find some secluded bit of beach and just do a small ceremony for friends.
I think it'd even be funny to do some vows that aren't very traditional, since we're not into tradition and I would want to make it fun.

I feel I wouldn't be happy with a normal ceremony. I want something so simple that I dont even spend 1000 dollars on it.

Who cares what my parents think. They can come down for the signing, but sorry mom, I'm having a ceremony in May whether you come or not tongue.gif
Even if I have to pay for it all.

Good for you! Do what YOU want, it's YOUR day. Enough with pleasing others, please yourself first! yes.gif
