*waits for all the Canadians who provided phone records to appear*

*pokes his head out of the dirt*

I may have provided a printed list of every phone call longer than 1 minute to from our cells (via phone card) and home numbers. Chronologically sorted...

Also... It's scary up here!

For Varba - why not add Peachey as of Jan 1? Since they won't add her until you're legally married it sounds like? Usually you have 31 days after a 'life event' to add the new family member.

For some reason they will only add her on the actual day. They are being dicks about it too, I'm very tempted to shop around but I know the price is pretty decent for the coverage.

We will be looking as well, we had "wonderful" news that my health care would enjoy billing us for all of December as our civil ceremony will be on Dec 31st.

Granted, they won't cover Peachey during the 4 days leading up to the ceremony that she doesn't have coverage from her canadian insurance becuase we're not married...

But they will bill us for the whole month happily, anyhow.

I believe, if we can find some temporary insurance to go until the end of December, we can honestly and truthfully tell them that her insurance will lapse and then add her to my plan.

4k is pretty rough though Dark. Is it like a super awesome plan?

Many folks on here have waited for interviews for 3 months, or LONGER. We understand it's frustrating, but after just 3 weeks (almost 4) don't go too overboard complaining yet or someone will get very grumpy at you.

Also... he will of course be going home on January 4th as the border guard demands. tongue.gif After this, his next trip would be a much shorter two week stay. You guys think that would help his chances, since it isn't by any means an extended visit?

Thanks to all for the thoughts and help shared.

You always can contact your congresspeople, it's part of their domain - and presumably it's part of why they were elected.

If you're expecting a magic bullet, I'm afraid you'll be sorely disappointed. As people on these forums have found out, not many people fully understand the immigration process, and this is not excluding immigration lawyers or congresspeople and their underlings.

My uncle helps people with many types of visas, and mentioned to Peachey and I during this process that he's never seen a congressperson be helpful when dealing with immigration woes.

Just a warning, my mother is quite skilled at cooking, and says these are the hardest cookies she's ever made. Selling these cookies at the local market paid for most of my childhood Christmas presents, something I didn't know until recently.

This is our secret family recipe, complete with all my mom's tricks to make it slightly easier to not burn/destroy them.

Grammy's Lacey Coconut Cookies
2 and ¾ cups grated coconut (one 7 oz. can of Long Angel Flake)
1 and ¼ lbs. brown sugar (approx. 3 cups) (light brown sugar if possible)
1 cup molasses (or King Syrup)
1 and ¼ lb. flour (approx. 4 cups)
12 oz. melted butter (I melt 8 oz. real butter and 4 oz. Crisco)

Mix all ingredients.
Refrigerate.
Shape in to balls to put on pan. [See Tip #1]
Bake in 350 degree oven for 7 – 9 minutes.

Tips:
1) Balls should be a quarter in diameter or smaller. Flatten ball slightly before baking. The secret is, flatten them, then push your thumb down in the middle to make a thumb-sized dimple.
2) Rotate tray half-way through baking.
3) Let cool slightly prior to removing cookies from sheets. This lets the cookies slightly congeal - do not let them completely cool or they will shatter instead of peel off!
4) Cool trays entirely between baking!
5) Heavy trays and parchment paper can help if you're having difficulties.

Yield:
16 Dozen

Getting them off of the pan successfully is the most challenging part.
If you do it correctly, they are flat, golden, and look like snow flakes. When they cool, they harden and turn crunchy.

YUM.

Obviously I have no intention of trying to leave the country without AP, but still, was I given a correct I-94 or is this something I should be worried about?

Congratz and glad you made it safely! good.gif

Peachey's I-94 says the same thing and we were very confused by it as well. I'm unsure if they are giving the wrong stamps, or what is up with it - I don't think anyone Peachey talked with understood K-1 visa's well enough for us to bother asking at the border either.

My version of it is shorter and quite amusing as well.

I pulled up after Peachey and her mom had gone through.

BG: ID please.
*hands passport*
BG: Where are you from?
Me: Lancaster PA
BG: Where are you headed?
Me: Home
BG: Why do you have so much stuff in your car?
Me: Err.. I'm with my fiancee Peachey, 2 cars in front of me. We're activating her K1 visa and moving to Lancaster...
BG: Oh.

BG gets out of car and wanders around the back looking at the boxes.

BG: Ok put on your 4 ways, and go over there and park. Then you can go in with her.

Me drives over, parks. BG2 comes over.

BG2: Ok, you can stay here, but DON'T get out of your car.
Me: I'm with Peachey, she's my finacee and we're activating her visa I'm allowed to go in door 2...
BG2: SIR, DO NOT EXIT YOUR VEHICLE.
Me: Ok.

Me sits and waits.

A full sized tan van pulls up on the left, no windows except the front.

Guy gets out and goes in.

3 BG's swarm it, and start swearing when the doors are locked.

BG3 comes out of building with a key and manages to get 2 doors open, grunts and swears some more.

BG's 3 and 4 try to force the back door open, with no luck.

BG5 gets out a massive flashlight and start crawling around in side... I see lots of wires and piping.

I try to think of happy thoughts that aren't related to a giant bomb sitting beside me.

BG5 gets out a test kit for (I assume) gun powder/explosives and goes back into the van.

I hope it's negative.

2 BG's wander past, and ask BG2 why 2 cars are sitting there with people in.
BG2: I-94
BG6: Oh
BG2: They are moving
BG6: No ######.

They chuckle and walk past.

Peachey's mom's car starts up, I look, and there is Peachey gliding magnificently down from the heavens holding a I-94.

HORAY!

The end.

CanadaShould I close my Canadian credit cards...

I've been in the US for a week now, awaiting an approved credit card in the mail from our bank and am wondering if I should close my Canadian credit cards now that I've got a US one secured.

I have three Canadian cards, none of which have balances or annual fees (as of yet). I have no intention of using those cards ever again. I have the cards themselves with me, so I'm not real worried about them being lost or stolen, but at the same time, I wonder about the impact of having unused, active accounts. I looked into all three and none of them charge inactivity fees, but can that change later on? How long will a credit card remain open without me using it? Silly as it sounds, I'm worried that en years down the line, I'll find out that I owe fees on new policies that took place on accounts I've long forgotten.

At the same time, I'm worried about closing the accounts. Is there a possibility of negatively impacting things I do here in the States if I destroy my cards and accounts there?

I've looked through all of the "things to do before you move" threads many times, and though many talk about paying off balances best as possible, etc, no one ever seems to mention what they actually do with those accounts, so... what did everyone do? Haha.

As always, help and input is greatly appreciated.

It's my understanding from a credit score standpoint it is very much better to leave the accounts open. Especially if you do something like put 5$ a month on them and pay them off on time.

You can get yourself in trouble as far as credit score and affect your future loans if you do not have a certain amount of debt - or at least active accounts. (Like I did.)

Just something to think about.

I don't think the cat food will actually harm the dog. Typically, they are very similar.

As for getting him to stop, the easiest method is to elevate the cat food. The cat shouldn't have problems getting to it, and the dog won't be able to do a drive by on it.

Eventually, the dog will get used to it being there and his food being the one to eat.

It may be challenging to use other methods, especially if you're giving wet food to the cat and dry food to the dog (I'm not exactly sure from your post).

Many animals seem to prefer wet foods, and even view it as more of a treat.
