Welcome LGG!

I tried, but my skills at finding a picture of a hedgehog and frog together, so I could put something witty on it.... failed.

This is the best I got.

CanadaWhat do you refrigerate?

That's what I do, Carla. We eat so very little bread that I keep it frozen and take out a slice as I need it.

And it tastes different than refridgerated?

CanadaWhat do you refrigerate?
I actually refrigerate bread too.

I found out a long time ago that, if I don't I can't make it through a loaf before it gets moldy.

If I do, I don't have to throw it out.

CanadaMontreal Consulate Payment
I'm assuming you mean the money for your K1 interview, and if so then yes - they take cash.

If I'm remembering right, it was 131 (USD). One of the guides said exact change only, but when we talked to the lady who took the payment, she said they do have some change.

Hope this helps.

Oh believe me, I have them!

Nothing but dark clothing and white pups... I've got a whole drawer full of lint rollers. yes.gif

You'll also be happy to know, they make paint roller sized (like 10" wide) lint rollers now too.

My best friend uses them constantly to keep the sofas clean.

Oh PS...

MY 20 year old Nephew's girlfriend sent me a friend request yesterday... I have never met this girl, she's 20, I have no desire to have idle chitchats with people I don't know so...

I declined it. Is that rude? Am I going to internet etiquette hell?

Some people might say yes, but I'll stick my opinion in here.

Heck no.

If you don't want to talk to someone, or have them snoop at your pictures, ect. Perfectly fine to ignore. If they throw a tantrum just say you never got the invite. :)

Before she moved, Peachey was about 700 miles away.

I made the drive in 11.5 hours once, usually it was much closer to 13.

Hyphenated names ensure that your offspring have zero chance at ever playing professional sports.

Oh, and they will be the cause of the destruction of the rainforests. What will happen when people with hyphenated names start marrying other people with hyphenated names. Soon people will have paragraphs for last names and wedding announcements and obituaries will take full pages. Think of the trees.

CanadaCanalien Houses

I mean usually my husband would have a large say in all of it, he feels that because he is a designer that he has better taste... which may be true because my style is kind of wonky. Our tastes are different. I love whimsical, midcentury stuff, and he loves contemporary. I know he doesn't like want to live in Smurf village so I go with the contemporary look. I don't mind it.

Until now, I didn't think I cared at all about decorations...

Now I know how I want to decorate!!!!

Not really sure how to answer so I picked some.

Typically we are involved in decisions together completely but from different aspects.

As an example, furniture, I get hung up on stuff like: size/spacing, feature comparisons, and cost. Peachey thinks about things like: do we actually need it, will it match, doe it fit in the car.

Decorations.... I have a hard time caring about. As long as there are some pictures around, and a calendar so I know what day it is - I'm happy. So I tend to leave that soley to Peachey.

Most other things we at least talk about to have some level of agreement before we get anything.

Our last couple "big" purchases were the TV and fishes. For both of those, we agreed before we got anything. Again, we weren't looking at the same things - but we balanced each other out and agreed and all was happy.

Cept for the fish tank base not quite fitting and I ended up sitting outside a closed fish store for 35 minutes or so till Peachey could come back with her car to pick me and it up.

I really gotta remember to take into account the small opening on my car trunk, and not the overall volume.

Traditionally around here, you scoop that stuff out and make it into the gravy to serve.

Hence gizzard gravy's name.

Sometime though, since my mom didn't like gizzard gravy, she'd bake it and let my dad and I eat them for snacks while the bird baked.

I know, I'm weird.

CanadaIn these Olympics, Canadians only paid attention to Canada.
Next they'll want to stop showing any flags, cease playing the national anthem of the winners, dress everyone in all grey, and disallow any sort of celbratory actions or vocalizations.

I mean.. come on.
VarbaMaleCanada2010-03-03 14:02:00
CanadaIn these Olympics, Canadians only paid attention to Canada.

People take things as they wish and even my fiance agreed with my point on the hocket thing (again same thing as this with the arrogance).

That's the point of the article though, is it's not that normal..

Usually you see all nations fairly represented and the olympic rings everywhere to be seen. In Vancouver though, it was a sea of red and white w/Maple leafs everywhere. Hell, it had been that since almost a year prior. Even when I was in Toronto 3 times this past year (starting with May) it was all over the place.

The Olympics are supposed to be about togetherness, not nationalism.

You may want to go back over footage. To me, it has always been VERY apparent what country is hosting. There always is a large celebration of nationalism that surrounds the games, and it's a good thing.

It's not taken to the extremes of violence or hatred (at least most times), but it's always there - and typically just as blatant as it was in Vancouver.

As for the Olympics, they're actually ALL about nationalism. It's about the host country putting on a spectacular show and awesome face to the rest of the world and I really think Canada did a great job.

I agree completely. There was nothing wrong with the celebrations, decorations, or people's attitudes that I saw.

CanadaIs it an AMERICAN thing???
One variant of it that I had a hard time getting used to was a group I stayed with down in Birmingham AL. They taught their kids that the respect prefixes were "brother" or "sister".

But again, it was only for people that were their elders... I was brother Varba the whole time I was there.

The whole Miss/Ma'am thing, I often do, especially if I don't know the person or am talking to them on the phone. My brother in law (from NC) calls everyone ma'am up here.

CanadaHealth Insurance Help - Non-Employer?

That's actually a good point. Most employers only let you in opt in and out of coverage during their 'open enrollment' which is usually once a year. I forgot about that.

There is also "significant life events" that allows you to change. Weddings count, I think most places give 30-60 day windows around these events... if that helps.

CanadaHealth Insurance Help - Non-Employer?

I guess it's really hard to compare plans because does anyone know what the employer is paying? I think in the case of Sam and in our case, the employer just wasn't paying very much (well they were probably paying a lot but that does not necessarily equate to a lot of coverage).

Yeah, price compares only work when you factor in employer costs. If your insurance is through a job, I'm betting that they are paying quite a bit for your insurance Huggles.

One thing to bear in mind especially is the rising rates. Every year at our company this is a painful event, over the past 4 years the lowest increase in price has been 50%.

That might sound exaggerated, but it's really not. My company typically ends up changing insurance once a year because of it.

I honestly do not understand how the rates can keep climbing like that, but I can't find a better deal anywhere else either.

CanadaThe Vent - Part Trois

Grrrr. Four years ago one of my front incisors shattered. It had had a root canal previously so the tooth wasn't in great shape. So I went in and they put a crown on it. Last friday, the whole crown came off - the remaining bit of tooth that was holding it was very fragile and had just broken off. So, they put in a post, took an impression and made a temporary crown while they prepare the permanent crown. I was in the dentist's office for 4 hours. Tonight, the temporary crown just came off even with the post. I am so annoyed! If the post doesn't work then the only option left will be an implant and crown -which are very expensive and not covered by insurance. Grrrr.

Yikes, that is never fun. I hope they can get it fixed for you soon, and as pain-free as possible! (F)

Only thing that fixes a urban infection is a good dose of outdoors, maybe a weekend camping trip with some good old fashion cooking over the fire.

You wanna do it quickly or the infection can fester and spread. Other symptoms can include clothing style changes, enjoying the smell of smog, installing bizarre devices into cars, and holding guns sideways.

(edit: I am kidding, all you urbanites don't sick your gangs on me, yo.)
