CanadaMedial Question related to Pk. 3
Hi all. My fiancee has received package 3 and it says to have everything completed(icluding medical) before sending in the checklitst. I've been noticing people's signatures have said they sent package 3 on such and such a date and their medial is on a date after it was sent. Can we do this(send package 3 while only having a medical appointment scheduled but not done yet)? Thanks.

You need to call between 2pm and 4pm ET. If you are on hold and it's 4pm, they won't take that call. When you call, it will give you a list of options, I think. They will say call back between 2 and 4...but if it is between that time hold for the next operator." If you don't hear that, push sero for an operator and tell them what you want to know and they can transfer you to the right extension.

CanadaMoving Van?
Uhaul was around $500. this was for the smallest truck and for 4 days and about 1600KM. I think it's a 600 mile drive. She has about 22 boxes of stuff and a dresser a desk and a china cabinet. Again, the truck is more space than we need, but if I can't find a cargo van then that will have to do.

CanadaMoving Van?
Hi all, I've looked around at one way moving van rentals(for a self move) and U-Haul looks to be the only company that does cross-border one-way rentals. Has anyone else tried anyone else? The smallest thing U-Haul has is a 10' truck and my fiancee really only has about a van's worth of items and three pieces of furniture.

thanks!

CanadaMontreal Interview!!!!
COngrats! It's encouraging to see at least someone is getting one. I just returned from visiting my fiancee in Ontario and she called before I left and the woman said she didn't have a date. She also didn't provide a time frame but said they weren't backed up, whatever that meant.

I spoke to my fiancee and she said she went to Medisys Health Group on St. Clair Ave in Toronto but she doesn't remember her doc's name. Hope it helps!

CanadaToronto Medial/POE
Hey gang. Just wanted to let folks know my fiancee had her medical in Toronto on Thursday. She got there around 12:50 for a 1:30 appointment. The lady commended her for being early. She said the doctors and nurses spent very little time with her, not even really looking in her ears/eyes, etc. In fact the nurse took more time explaining how to get to the xray place than what she needed done(she needs to fax proof of MMR). They took her word that she had chicken pox. I guess the phrase "good enough for government work" applies here. :P

While she was waiting there was another couple there. The wife was getting her medical. The husband is a customs officer. He told her Peace Bridge was the best place to cross(we'll be going from Bala to Philadelphia) because of the personnel.

Today is a phone call to Montreal and then I'll be with my best friend and Love for a week on Thursday.

My fiancee is calling again on Friday. She was going to call tomorrow but she has a new job that she won't be able to do that with. Leafgal, I'm glad they said November for you since she sent her list in a couple of days after you, and we're hoping for a December wedding.

On a side note, will Packet 4 have instructions about a second letter of intent, or can I send that to her and say I am still willing and able to marry her?

Thanks. I called on Friday and the woman said 4-12 weeks. I'm going to visit Ashley in Ontario this week and she's going to call again on Monday before I elave Tuesday. We're praying to know soon so we can go ahead with wedding plans for December 9. Timing wise, everything has worked out for us with everything(I was away when RFE for IMBRA came which worked out for her to get things more in order). We are hopeful God will allow our plans to succed, but if He doesn't, we'll still praise Him and know He has other plans. As Job said, if we accept good from God, shouldn't we also except the bad? Or something to that effect.

Thanks for the info. I read your post last night and relayed the info to my fiancee and we both got a little worried. She sent her checklist on Sept. 5. We're hoping for a December 9th wedding. After worrying, we prayed about it, knowing everything is in God's hands.

But the voice of Truth tells me a different story
The voice of Truth says, "Do not be afraid"
... out of all the voices calling out to me,
I will choose to listen and believe the voice of Truth

...Casting Crowns.

CanadaMontreal Appointment Date
Well, we're an hour away from Ashley calling Montreal. We're really praying about this call. If we hear something we have to hustle for wedding plans. We don't have as much in place as I'd like. Oh well. I got this verse today and thought it was pretty encouraging:

Isaiah 26:4
Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord is the Rock Eternal.

I'll cover Friday. It might not be until Sudnay afternoon/Monday morning because my home computer is whacky. If my fiancee calls on Friday and lets me know before I leave work, I'll let you all know what the scoop is.

CanadaMontreal Appointment Date
ljs, Congrats on the interview date. I'll be watching leafgal as she sent her info a few days ahead of my fiancee. I was a little discouraged for me(not for ljs) by seing your interview date. But like jersey girl said, ours is the beginning of September. I'll let you all know(in a new thread) what she hears.

The thing is, we were hoping for a December wedding. We'll have to decide something soon, because I have about ten days to put in my vacation for next year. I'd like t know one way or the other, for a date so we can at least plan some thngs.

CanadaMontreal Update
Thanks jerseygirl for the encouragement. We've decided to all but give up our wedding date and we would be happy with any date at this point. We're going to call and ask if they can guesstimate with the emphasis on having to have my vacation requests for next year in at the end of the week. Again, we don't care about when at this point, we would just like any date.

Boboroad has a CR-1/IR-1 visa. Are appointments issued based on what kind of visa you apply for?

CanadaMontreal Update
Hello there. My fiancee called Montreal and the woman was very helpful. She said they're booking interviews for December and those people are July/August. Needless to say, we don't have an interview date yet :crying: and don't know when. This stinks because we were hoping for the December wedding date. She'll call again next week because that's when my vacation requests are due for the following year. It's hard to even think about that now. :bonk:

CanadaI want to pull my hair out!!!
Hey folsk, just got off the phone with Montreal. The woman told me something completely different than my fiancee or I heard before, which is also different than what all of you have heard. The lady said they are booking for December, and that people from MAy are still waiting, like the girl who the woman spoke with just before me. She suggested not going along with any plans until we have the interview/visa, blah, blah blah. I even asked about my fiancee and I hearing different things(and bilssgirl...congrats again) but she repeated what she said about booking people from May. I guess I'll have a snack while I wait. :pop:

In other news, I have peace about things, so that's good.

CanadaWhat foods are the Same in the US
I've had brown and clear cream soda and I didn't notice a difference. There's a Philly based beverage company that makes the brownish kind(looks like a darker ginger ale or diluted cola) and Canada Dry makes the clear kind. Being I don't drink cream soda too often, I don't know if I'd notice a difference.

When I first visited Ashley, I brought back a bottle of Heinz ketchup as a 'bilingual' gift for a friend of mine who loves ketchup. She said it tasted sweeter than what we're used to in the States.

CanadaMontreal Waiting Room Reflections
I know what you mean Jerseygirl. Two years ago when my fiancee and I were just acquaintances, we stopped emailing(we met while serving at a handicamp). Then I had a schedule change at work that turned everything upside down. I was convinced it was God telling me it's time for a new job. In this time Ashley started emailing me again because she heard of the schedule change. That time in my life was one of the most frusrtating things I experienced. Yet I don't doubt that helped lay a foundation for where I am today. In that time I learned to wait; learned to trust His timing; learned to hear His voice; and saw that "my best" wasn't "God's best".

I read something by Os Hillman that said to embrace the time in the desert. That's where God can do his deepest work. It stinks because it's a time of isolation and a time of questioning, but it refines us.

People in my small group at church have remarked about my example of faith. It's not like I have a choice here. :) This is whole process is 'peaceful anxiety'(I forget the author), where we're worried because there's nothing we can do, but we can have peace because there's nothing we can do.

Go to La Milsa for the celebration dinner. It's pretty close to the consulate and so worth the money! Bring your appetite!

I just looked at their website! I hope my fiancee has her interview when I visit in December so we can go there. It looks tasty. Do they have a tredmill so you can walk off your "10 types of meat" when you're done?

CanadaHow long is K1 visa valid
Hello all,
I remember reading somewhere my fiancee will have six months to enter the US once she gets her K1 and then 90-days for us to get married. When she called the consulate, she thinks they said she'd have three months to cross and then the 90-days. Does anyone know which is accurate? Thanks!
jg_amMaleCanada2006-10-28 18:26:00
CanadaVisiting
We've visited six times in the last year. I'm going again in December. She had a problem coming to see me once, because she had a one way train ticket and the US border patrol didn't feel she had enough funds to return. They wanted her to call when she got home, which she did. When I visited her I said I was visiting friends(her whole family) for fear of the Canadians putting up a fuss about visitng a girlfriend. This normally wouldn't be a problem except they lived in Coutts at the time, which is in Alberta on the border. Nothing is there. The guy said, "Your're coming from Philadelphia to visit them and go to Leth and church? That's it?" I thought about coming clean but he let me in. Of course they have their computer which shows crossings and I'd imagine reasons.

CanadaCool new things you have found in the US

I will sneak in here though that I really, really, really would like a Tim Horton's Coffee.

If any of you are in the Philadelphia area, give Wawa a try for coffee. It's just as addicting to us as Tim's is to you. In fact, I took a bag of it on my first visit and my fiancee's dad said it was better than Tim's, and we all know coffe is never as good when you make it at home than it is at the store.

Thanks for everyone's reply. Maybe we'll get to those one day. It looks like I might get to Montreal after all now. The short version(I'll post the long in the main forum) is she might be asking for a date change. Maybe we'll go to that previously mentioned place.

CanadaOT: Fun place to eat in Toronto
Hey gang! I was wondering if anyone could recommend a fun place to eat in Toronto. After looking at the website for La Milsa in Montreal, I got excited, thinking I'd be going there with my fiancee. Now that her interview is this month, we won't be going to Montreal. Anyway, are there places in Toronto that are comparable to that, or maybe a place that has a more romantic feel? Thanks!
