CanadaI QUIT!! I did it I did it!! and it felt good!

wow that is tough, I kept asking myself if I could hold out too but your case is diff knowing you want to use that time for when your wife comes...... that would be tough.

This guy was the most messed in the head  person I ever worked for. He inherited the company, and didn't want to run it. He enjoyed causing chaos and I was supposed to be his assistant! He kept saying I needed to "watch his back", but I couldn't because I had no respect and it was making me sick inside when I would hear him lying to all the employees..... then having me cover the tracks. Pulled me under the bus twice in 3 mos. to save his butt too. Life is too short man!!

Didn't sound like a fun place to be.

My wife's here, but the day or two for those appointments might be harder to get for a few employer. Plus, there's the whole employment letter, etc.

CanadaI QUIT!! I did it I did it!! and it felt good!

No more :diablo: Mr. passive-aggressive micro-managing borderline sociopath lying manipulative pushy boss. TA TA!! Have a nice life!

Do we work for the same guy? Everyone, and I mean everyone wants to quit where I work. We think it should be the best place to work(a cable sports station) and everyone who doesn't work there think it's cool, but sometimes... :bonk:

I keep thinking of waiting at least until my wife gets her green card b/c I have four weeks of vacation, which is hard to walk away from, and that will allow me to take off for her interview/bio.

CanadaHow do I plan a wedding from up here?
My wife and I tried to get as much done in advance as we could. That didn't work like we were hoping. She did a lot of looking online as far as caterers/photographers went. She would ask how far things were and we went from there. Once we had the interview set, we booked things. My church was the most flexible out of anything as we changed the date a few times. As we got prices for the caterer, I would go and visit. A lot of things were me taking pictures and her deciding if a place looked nice enough.

CanadaMontreal Interview
There are things in packet, like the letter and instructions. We forgot the letter and went to the consulate the day before and explained the situation and asked if a fax would work(the gard outside told us this as we were in line). Anyway, she said we didn't need the letter, just our passports. As it turned out we were able to get the letter faxed to us and they didn't blink an eye when we handed it in. I'm guessing it helps the process go a little quicker.

CanadaRescheduling Interview
Wow, this is quite a thread! It seems your situation is resolved, for the most part, but I find it odd that you didn't even have a warning about the medical. We got an interview date for last November and my wife(then fiancee) emailed the consulate abot the chances of changing the date to some time in December when I would be visiting. She didn't want to change it, but she was just seeing if she could. They replied with a new date in December. In the end we were glad they did, instead of us having to make a choice.

You can call them or email them. My wife called and it wasn't a problem to change her addy. In fact, I thinkI did it for her without any questions. If you email, make sure you put your case nu,ber in the subject line.

How long did it take you to get your results? Did you have to pick them up or did they mail them?

My wife's were courrired to her. I forget how long it took though... Congrats!

I can't help you there.. Was told once as a youth pastor in South Carolina that I wasn't allowed to invite kids of "other colors" to our YG. They said "they have their churches and we have ours.. leave it at that".. I was stunned.. Could not believe it. WHAAAAT?

Racism is wrong in any circle, but it's things like that that give Christians a bad name.

Read Col 3:11. I did last night.

Sorry for going OT there.

Oh and going back, what in living hell is Easy Cheese?

Easy Cheese is a canned processed cheese, similar to Cheeze Whiz. It looks like and dispenses like a can of moose. And it's very good on Triscuits, as someone said earlier. It's all over in the States.

Nini & Bee, what part of PA are you moving to? We're in the Philadelphia area.

My fiance (Bee) lives in Devon, near King of Prussia. I'm originally from Vancouver, myself.

We live in Media, which is 15 minutes west of Phila, and probably 20 minutes south of Devon, if we take 252.

There's also a Wegmans in Downington/Exton which isn't close, but not too far either. I've never been there, but they're like TJ's...a lot of original stuff/whole foods, etc.

Nini & Bee, what part of PA are you moving to? We're in the Philadelphia area.

My wife was dealing with a bit of home-sickness last week. She knew people from my church before we were married, but she feels she only knows those people on a surface level. As she's gotten to know them more, I think things are getting better. She feels she'll never know anyone like she did in Canada, but she's only been two months.

On a lighter note, my wife went to mail something today and couldn't figure out the mail box. She eventually did. I guess they're different than Canada Post boxes. Someone asked her to babysit in case of jury duty and she never heard of that. I guess you all don't have that north of the border.

I still haven't learned to convert from Celsius to Fahrenheit. Nowadays, I just guess at the temperature...

I like pronouncing "route" root, but here it's r-out. "Buoy" is boy to me, but booey to everyone else here :)

Route being pronouced "root" ot "r-out" is a regional thing. I'm from Philadelphia and if varries for people. Most of us say it like "root". We also say creek like "eek" or "ick" depending on which part of PA you're from our which stream you're talking about, but that's not what this post is about. :)

I have a quick unscientific way to convert farenheight to Celsius. It works both ways. 50F is 10C. For each degree of Celcius you go, figure two degress Farenheight. ie: 15C = 60F, 5C = 40F. Keep in mind this is a rough estimate so it's not quite those temps but close enough.

Anyway, GENERALLY speaking, MOST American coffee is too bitter for my taste. How's that? better?

Thanks Kathryn! :)

My shock with Canada post came when I went to mail a large envelope from Ontario to Alberta for my fiancee. $10 for something that would've cost $3 from the States!!! For the next hour I thought "$10?!?!?!?, until I had to say it out loud.

I don't like all this bashing of American Coffee. ;) If you could only try Wawa coffee(Philadelphia area, South Jersey, etc). My future father in-law likes it better than Tim's. He said, "So when I come to visit, I can get this fresh brewed, right?", instead of out of the bag I brought him. Now Wawa(and I know, it's an Indian tribe's word for Canada Goose), is just a convenienve store, but it kicks butt. I like Tim's but for the atmosphere of the store. I don't like that their medium isn't much bigger than their small.

CanadaInterview Is Thursday, Help Please!
From whaat I recall, you'll need duplicate copies of everything(I-134, birth certs, everything they ask for in packet 3). The sealed envelope is your medical info. Even thouhg they probably won't need them, bring your chest x-ray. We had a situation where we forgot our letter(we had one faxed) but we stopped at the consulate the morning of and they said it was fine. Double check yourself. I think there's also so many passport-style photos, other evidence(photos, etc). I'm sure there's more. Basically check and recheck packet three.

Oh yeah...$100 US Cash and passport.

I know this is an old thread, but I had to revive it. My wife and I were at a church youth retreat this weekend and I drove up instead of taking the bus with eery one. CanadaCanadian Grocery List....

A few items that I haven't been able to find down south:

Oh Henry chocolate bars
Rolo (i'll call it a chocolate "bar" but they are really round chocolate pieces)
Ms Vicki's chips

Its already been posted, but definetely worth saying again: Tim Horton's or Swiss Chalet

......and I definetely don't miss bagged milk, but if anyone remembers it, powdered milk was so much worse!!!

Those candy bars are readily available in in the States. Mrs. Vicki's I've only seen in vending machines and have recently been showing up at my Wawa. I found a knock-off recipe for Swiss Chalet sauce that my wife made(I think I posted the link somewhere...if not in this thread, then the one about culture shock). I thought it was okay. Since she's the Canadian, and knows better, she didn't like it a whole lot and wants to alter it.

As for the bagged milk, I didn't know about the cutter on the container and used a knife, making the hole awkward and had to hold it a certain way to prevent spillage.

I know I'm months late here, but Skor bars can be found everywhere in the States. My wife was also happey to see crumpets at Trader Joes. Pesonally, I like Tastycakes' butterscotch Krimpets.

http://www.tastykake...mp;ChannelID=73 Don't know if they're quite national, but it's Philadelphia, regional thing. That's one of the things I took with Canada as a gift to my wife's family, along with Wawa coffee.

Found this recipe fow Swiss Chalet's sauce. It won a contest in the Toronto Star.

I was also going to mention Herr's Ketchup chips, but someone beat me to it. My fiancee(wife if reading this past 2pm on Saturday) doesn't like ketchup chips, so it's okay. Oddly enough, she did mention dream whip yesterday.

All this talk wants me to email Tim's and suggest they sell their products(at least the coffe) through Wendy's in the States. This will get their name out there and then allow them to branch out to stand alone stores.

That's too bad. DD is the chain around me. In fact Krispy Kream opened up a bunch of stores and within a year or two, they were gone. Keep in mind this isn't too far from where the south, we're they're everywhere. I think it was the location more than anything but what do I know. I told my wife we should start writing to Wendy's to see if they're going to carry Tim's products in their restaurants. Then again, they screwed up the last two Frosties I've ordered so I'm sure they'd mess an iced-capp as well.

I would say all looks in order, but I didn't move with two vehicles. We didn't use the customs form and the person at the border seemed to only look at the list because we had it. I opened up the back of the truck and he barely glanced in. Best of luck with the move!

Me(the USC) work for a regional cable sports network. Its a fun job for the most part(covering Flyers, Sixers Phillies, Eagles, etc.), for the most part. A lot of BS from mangement, but I don't go in until 10am and most days don't do anything unil 4pm. I'm considering a career change once we get the interview...maybe not.

My wife worked at a few different places, as she could get work, living in Coutts and then Bala, ON. She doesn't have a degree/career and she'll get some kind of work once she gets her GC. Our plan is for her $$ to go towards a house/savings and then stay at home once kids come. In the meantime, she's happy taking care of me and cuddling until it's time for me to go to work. She's also working on a book and toying with volunteering at a nuring home up the street.

My wife heard the when Americans are in Canada, they all like their pizza better than any they get in Canada. My wife, the Canadian, likes US pizza better than Canada. I haven't had any in Canada, so I can't say. Although American pizza differs on the restaurant/style, etc.

Anyway, she'd like to know what people preferr, notably the Canadians. Thanks!
