CanadaCanada....what a place!
I still say Wawa is better(Philadelphia area) than Tim's. Now I may be biased because that's what I'm used to and what I like. However, my fiancee's parents and grandparent's liked the Wawa coffee I brought with me more than Tim's.

Canadaevidence of support
A letter from your employer stating how much you make/how long you've been there, a letter from your bank with the amount of money in your account, tax returns, pay stubs, etc. It says on the form what's required.

CanadaWe're home!
Hello all! I wanted to say my fiancee is settling into her new home in Pennsylvania. The trip was uneventful if not long. I flew to Buffalo Thursday morning out of Philadelphia. I had a little weekender bag but checked it in because I had a razor and shampoo. Needless to say, I wore the same clothes for three days. In fact we were out grocery shopping and I got a call and my bags were outside our door at home.

Anyway, I got the truck in Buffalo, and drove to cross at Peace Brisge/Fort Erie. I pulled into the Bus/RV section and a woman came out and I told her why I was there. She asked where my citizenship and then glanced at my passport and asked me to open the back. When she saw it was empty, she sent me on my way. I met Ashley at her grand parents' house and we went on to ala from there. Friday we moved her family's things out out of the storage unit and went back for her stuff. We left Saturday morning, stopped at the florist, went and visited her grandma at a home in Toronto for a little bit and headed south.

The crossing at Fort Erite was smooth. Someone from the border said to cross at #13 because it would be closest to the building, but it was labled #1 and said RV's, I think. The guy looked at our passports, and asked if her visa was in the envelope. She said it was in the passport. He asked what was in the truck and I said clothes and furniture. We went around back to open the truck and he asked again f it was just household items and if anything was new. We only had a bookcase that was new, but he said it was fine. He barely glanced inside and that was that. I asked if he need a list of our boxes and he said he didn't but to take it inside for the interview. We pulled up and waited to be processed. They asked her a few questions and she could tell they were looking for specific answers(we guessed based on our previously submitted paperwork/interview). Her envelope was already opened so she didn't ask for a copy of the medical. Off we went and a million hours later, we arrived home. The roads were fine but the drive was brutal. Mapquest said 10 hours but it was 18 for us. Partly because of visits, partly to rest, partly because I was going 55 in a truck that reved like I was going 70.

Thanks again for all your encouragement along the way!

CanadaMy baby landing in Montreal in 3 hours....
Good luck with everything! Mi fiancee and I went to the airport last night to get a friend of hers who is in town for the wedding and we realized we weren't there to see each other off. It's a nice feeling so I can relate. Anywho, best of luck with everything and enjoy.

CanadaWEIRD?! -- Canadian crying for some help
Yeah, my fiancee moved during the last steps of the process. We called Montreal and they changed it without incident. It was pretty simple.

CanadaGrrr...

, and Timmy's (YIKES.... do I miss those Ice Capps)

Dunkin Donuts Coffe Coolata(sp?) is similar to Tim's Ice Capps, but not the same. Yes, I'm recomending a place for coffe besides Wawa.

CanadaBuffalo/Fort Erie Peace Bridge POE
Thanks for the post! My fiancee heard Peace Brige was a good place to cross. Mapquest suggest Niagra Falls, but we'll use the Peace Bridge unless someone else has a better idea about it?

CanadaHow much did you bring with you?
A few people have mentioned a company called u-pack, http://www.upack.com/ From what I understand they drop a pod or truck off and move it. People in this group seemed to like it.
jg_amMaleCanada2007-01-19 11:37:00
CanadaHow much did you bring with you?

We'll be renting a truck (in 28 days!!!) and loading that up.

If ur renting from Uhaul, ensure u book early, as not all their trucks can cross the border. Best of luck.

Thanks flames9. I'm actually flying to Buffalo and renting a truck from Budget and then driving up to Bala before headed back south to Philly. The nice thing about Budget was that it was cheaper and they give you unlimited milage, unlike uhaul, who barely gives you enough miles to go from point to point.

CanadaHow much did you bring with you?
My fiancee is bringing everything with her. Fortunately she still lives at home and doesn't have a lot. That is, we don't need to make decisions on things. She moved in May from Coutts, AB to Bala, ON and got rid of a lot of things then. And most of her stuff is packed. We'll be renting a truck (in 28 days!!!) and loading that up. Whatever is hidden in the back of her family's storage unit will be making its way with them when they come down two weeks later for the wedding. Actually, her bed is staying behind until we have a house.

CanadaWedding day today!
Been out of the forums for a bit, but wanted to say thanks to one and all for the congrats. Wifey is having a meltdown looking at AOS, but I'll help her when I get home tonight and start posting in that forum. :)

And Flames... thanks for the coffee! I went for a 20 oz instead of the 24oz to save you a dime.

CanadaWedding day today!
It's here! Ashley and I are finally getting married this afternoon. We were talking last night how everything seems so surreal: waiting for an interview we thought would never get here, doing a million and one things in the last two weeks, etc.

Quick question: was she supposed to receive a "welcome to the US" letter, or will that arrive after she applies for a SS card? We decided to wait to apply for one because it takes a bit to get into the system and this way we don't have to hassle with a name change.

AOS/EAD/AP, here we come.

Thanks again for everyone's help over the last few months!
jg_amMaleCanada2007-03-03 08:13:00
CanadaThe work thing...
My wife(then fiancee) didn't get a stamp at Peace Bridge, however when we went to get a SS# there was some kind of work authorization on the computer. We delayed getting a card because it was after we got married and we don't want to go through a name change w/SS.
jg_amMaleCanada2007-04-12 15:18:00
Canadawhat a day!
Good luck! The move wasn't as hard for my wife as knowing she just can't pick up and go see her family whenever she wants. It's harder for her to know her family misses her than she misses them.
jg_amMaleCanada2007-04-13 13:23:00
CanadaFiling AOS on Monday
We're hoping to have our AOS in by Monday. My wife never got her DS-whatever that you get when you cross the border, so we called the different offices that had tested her before her medical to get her history faxed to us(her yellow book only had a tetnus shot). The doctors she spoke to said she needed the whole medical but she knew we only needed info transfered to the supplement. After much time on the phone, we went to the doctor this morning and the nurse filled everything out we needed, like they knew exactly what they were doing. All the doctor had to do was sign the paper. Why the headache of the phone call? Ironically they called yesterday to cancel her appoinment because all their medical paper work gets returned because the regulations change. We said we just needed the supplement and as previously stated, everything was cool. We even took the insturctions from the I-485 just in case. So yes, we're sending everything this weekend. Since my wife wanted to save a few $ and not get a travel doc, we're not sending in an EAD either, which I'm fine with.

Oh, the doc's office said it'd be $75, but only charged us $50.

CanadaAbout to file AOS
Yes we did. We had all her bloodwork faxed, since she had tests for the K1 medical, and the doctor transfered the info to the I-693. They sealed the evnvelope, but also gave us a copy.

CanadaAbout to file AOS
Hey gang,
We're about to file AOS and I was wondering if we submit a copy of the long form or regular birth certificate for my wife? Can the long form be shrunk to 8.5 x 11 or should we just send a legal paper sized copy?

thanks!

CanadaPacket 3
From what I recall/read Montreal can get pretty finiky about using their paperwork. At the end of the day they're all the same. It doesn't hurt to fill the forms out in advance so you know what you'll be filling out whrn you get package three in the mail.

CanadaI QUIT!! I did it I did it!! and it felt good!

wow that is tough, I kept asking myself if I could hold out too but your case is diff knowing you want to use that time for when your wife comes...... that would be tough.

This guy was the most messed in the head  person I ever worked for. He inherited the company, and didn't want to run it. He enjoyed causing chaos and I was supposed to be his assistant! He kept saying I needed to "watch his back", but I couldn't because I had no respect and it was making me sick inside when I would hear him lying to all the employees..... then having me cover the tracks. Pulled me under the bus twice in 3 mos. to save his butt too. Life is too short man!!

Didn't sound like a fun place to be.

My wife's here, but the day or two for those appointments might be harder to get for a few employer. Plus, there's the whole employment letter, etc.
