How did you meet him?

That was it pertaining to the questions.

Philippinesphilippines internet
My fiance is from Mindanao, and she uses the Globe Tatto USB stick. I like it because there is no long term contract, if you have load for it then use it, if not then don't use it. The connection is pretty fast for the most part.

PhilippinesReasonably Priced Vacation Spots

Far north and south in cebu is nice and very reasonable. On a plane and can't remember the names, but two very small islands off of the north of cebu are very nice and quiet. Very reasonable too.

It is Bantayan Island and Malascupa Island. Me and my fiance went to Bantayan Island and stayed at a very nice, cheap place right on the beach. It was around 1500peso per room with breakfast. Look up Placid Beach Resort Bantayan Island.

PhilippinesDenied Tourist Visa before, Will that affect K1?
No, it will not affect it. I know this personally. My fiance had her tourist visa denied last year, and now this year her K1 visa was APPROVED. Just be honest and say yes it was denied.

PhilippinesDo i need to wait for a mail/email from USEM about the case number?
NO, you DO NOT need the embassy letter for the medical. But you will need to pay the interview fee at a local BPI before you can schedule the interview. They will ask for the letter at St. Lukes, but if you don't have it, it's ok. My fiance did all this in June and she did not have the visa letter.

You and him will both get a letter showing the case number. But there is no need to wait for it.

She is going to the one in Cebu. Due partly to all the weather troubles Manila has been having. She is pretty cautious and doesn't want to chance anything. Also flying in from Davao, it's cheaper going to Cebu than going to Manila.

PhilippinesWhen will my Fiancee receive the original document with the MNL case#?
My fiance only had the MNL case number as well not the paperwork. They will ask for it, BUT YOUR FIANCEE CAN STILL GO THROUGH AND PROCESS WITH THE MEDICAL. She didn't recieve the paper until after we had already done the interview and got approved. That is when she got the paper showing the NOA2.

PhilippinesAre there any Filipino's in Maryland?
How did you like Mindanao? She is from Surigao del Sur? I love Mindanao, I really do. Espiecally the whole Butaan, CDO, Davao Areas. My fiance is from Compostela Valley. Sorry I am not from MD though, NC here. But I am looking at job oppurtunities up there. But yes I started looking around for Filipinos in the area, and it is hard on the East Coast unless you are near Norfolk. Because most of them are in Western part of the US.

PhilippinesGoing to the USA

Everyone forgets about safety, american carriers are the safest. Delta has an impecable record. Enjoy your flight.

Just watched a special And Asiana Airlines was the best airline in the world currently, definitely a great airline.

Actually according to Skytrax, Qatar Airlines is the best. I am a frequent flyer through them, but this time they were $400 more a ticket to the USA. Detroit is not my final stop, it is my POE onward to NC.

Thanks everybody.... I know Asian carriers are ALOT better but quite frankly due to my budget I have to go with Delta. I know it sucks but it's what I have to go with. Just trying to get people's experiences is all.

PhilippinesLearning Tagalog?

Rosetta Stone and the wife/fiancee are the best ways. The only way to really learn is to submerge yourself in the culture and language to get better. All my friends there speak good english so while I was living there it was very slow. I was doing Rosetta Stone on the road and then practicing with GF at the time and was making progress. I started getting better when I was off for months at a time and conversing with Abs in Tagolog. I really starting doing ok when we were in her province and only 1 or 2 spoke english. When your Tagay redhorse and emperador, they want to talk to you so had to start throwing Tagolog out there. Of course there is laughing but its all a great time.. I have also busted some people talking to fiancee about me, not bad things, and spoke to them in Tagolog and what a look. And she would say ya, he knows Tagolog. Thats the rewArding side.

In Abs province everyone speaks visayas and a little Illicono, but I tell everyone I need to know Tagolog first and then can work on the others. They all know Tagolog in the Phils pretty much so its the best one to learn first in my opinion. I can tell you my taxi fare/ Trike fares have gone down since learning a little, lol!!

Yes that always help drinking alittle bit. I tell people I have Caribao Bisaya and they have Caribao English, when we start drinking we can usually understand each other hahahahaha. The best way is to submerge yourself in the area and the language. That is a big PLUS+. I difinently get looks trying to speak Bisaya/Tagalog, but everyone usually understands what I mean. Then laugh and smile at my accent.
cyberfx1024MalePhilippines2012-09-05 21:43:00
PhilippinesLearning Tagalog?
I am in the same boat as some of y'all. My fiance speaks primarily Cebuano/Bisaya where she lives in Mindanao and often times the only Tagalog you will hear is on the TV. So it is hard trying to learn. Plus when I went to get the Rosetta Stone to learn Tagalog her and her family were like "Why? We speak Bisaya not Tagalog". I guess its a whole culture thing going on. But I have learned basic Tagalog and Bisaya. Not conversational yet but getting there.

Just have your fiance/wife speak her language to you at home and have her teach you as well. My fiance loves to teach me while we are in bed just talking to each other or riding aroung on the motorbike.

PhilippinesFedEX to ship documents - OK

I'll be sending my I-134 packet very soon too, and I plan to use either FedEx or DHL. Yes, it's much more expensive than USPS, but I have had items get lost using USPS before and the $100+ that I'll spend at FedEx/DHL is cheap insurance when mailing a packet containing your entire financial landscape/history. Well worth it!

This is so true. That's why I always use DHL. Yes, it costs more but I like being able to track the package and see where it is. I have also heard of stuff getting stolen or go missing using usps/phil post. One good example is I ordered some simple raspberry keytone because my mahal thinks she is fat. Doesn't most women think that way? HEHEHEHE. But I ordered it on 7 August, and USPS says it shipped out of Jamaica NY on the 8th of August. My fiance still has not gotten it yet. It goes to show how slow USPS/Phil Post is.

PhilippinesPhilippines VISA and Flight
The limit is 21days if you just show up to the Philippines without a visa. If you decide to overstay that visa by x amount of days. Then it is a 3000php/75usd extension fee. The thing is no one can EXACTLY tell you such and such because we are not immigration. But NoyNoy has been cracking down on Immigration lately so expect them to be harsh with their policies.
cyberfx1024MalePhilippines2012-09-13 22:11:00
PhilippinesGood or bad idea?
You can either send yourself money or use the atm. My fiance lives out in the provinces of Mindanao and there are NO atm's or credit machines there. It is all cash. So I usually have at least 20-30,000 peso on me at all times. Just in case of a emergency.

But like the past posts said. Why not wait until the interview is scheduled and leave then. Because you are just wasting all that time earning a paycheck and money.

Yes, I would have loved to be with my mahal for 3 months, but economically it just wasn't feasible. But I was there for her interview and it went fine.

PhilippinesJust arrived in Colorado (September 02 2012 Usa date)

I am curious about how you pay the 1620 tax.

I just flew out of Manila on United.

I entered the terminal for international departures (Terminal 1) and got in line for United (I think counter 68 or 58). Before I could approach the counter I had to go to a person who asked me what was in my luggage. Then I could approach the United agent and give them my bag.

After that I entered an area where there was security and I had to pay 550p as some sort of airport fee.

So where did you pay the 1620p tax? I know that as I entered the main front door of terminal 1 there was a pretty long line of people with bags outside but the guard waved me past that into the terminal. Is that a line to pay the 1620p tax?

Thanks

Are you a foreigner or a Philippine citizen? The 1620php tax is for Filipinos only.

PhilippinesStamp @ NAIA Airport
Yeah I did business class last time I went to the Philippines. I didn't have all those lines either but I also didn't check any baggage as well. Espeically going to Manila, I hate checking baggage because it takes so long. So I just end up carrying it with me. If I fly economy then I try and get as close to the front of the plane as I can.

PhilippinesStamp @ NAIA Airport
That is so true. If you are worried about affording the $30usd visa fee in the states or the 3000php visa fee extension for those of us who can't do the previous one. Then you need to look into not even going at all. That is the sad truth. Because you are foreigner people will automatically assume you have money so they will up the price for you.

Also NAIA is NOT DUBAI it will not take you over 1 hour to get to the immigration counter. The longest it ever took me was 20mins, then it took even longer than that to get my bag. You just have to make sure you have everything filled out beforehand. It is not rocket science.

PhilippinesSending Documents to the Philippines

I have always used DHL and never had a problem with them. My wife is from Compostela Valley so the mail comes from Davao. It usually takes about 5 days. The only time I have had a problem was when I bought a watch for a friend from the USA. The company sent it by the USPS and they handed it over to Philpost. Philpost took a extra 10days to hand it over to my friend's family.

PhilippinesBringing a Dog to the USA

Hi, we will be bringing our dog from PH to USA also. Our dog is originally from California. The only airline we trust is Philippine Airline, for our 10pounds chihuahua terrier dog he's kennel will cost $300 (50lbs). Our dog needs to be vaccinated 30 days prior to leaving PH, and we need to get an exit permit of pets from the Bureau of Animal Industry (Animal health Division). Bring the certificate of vaccination to BAI at Diliman Quezon City to acquire the exit permit and that's it. The quarantine in the US won't be that bad at all.

How long are you queartining the dog for?

PhilippinesCultural Differences

Michelle is fluent in English. She and her sister would practice their English together when they were children outside of school. On the rare occasion she has difficulty with a word or phrase I just ask her to switch to Tagalog and we continue the conversation that way. Afterwards I will help her find the best way to express what she meant in English.

My wife is fluent in English as well. I have worked with her over the past 3 years to be "American Fluent". She has gotten alot better and people have commented her on her English. It's just small little things that she doesn't understand sometimes. I am learning Tagalog and I am getting ok with it, since when I am at home the majority of the time the tv is on The Filipino Channel.

PhilippinesCultural Differences

I love how my wife does the lip and the eye movement. I have started doing the eye movement a lot now since we have started living together. The biggest thing that gets me is my wife will be thinking of something and I ask her about it and she replies back "I don't know what it is in English". So then we have to google it and find the answer.

I have started teaching my wife how to drive and it was frustrating to me at first. How someone can ride a motorbike but not know how to drive a car is beyond me. But I taught her, but we live in California and she hates driving because of all the traffic.

PhilippinesBooking a flight to U.S. before Visa is issued?

You can always go through another airline carrier. Do you have to be on a specific date or plane? But I agree with the people above. You don't want to buy the plane ticket until the visa is approved.

PhilippinesVisa Delivery

Where does your fiance live? My wife lives in Compostela Valley and the closest 2go is a little trip away. They had her come and pick it up at the on site place. So yes she can go pick it up. But usually they will call and see if they want to pick it up or have it delivered. If that person wants it delivered then they give a date about when they will be in that area again. We have had to pick it up with 2GO and documents I shipped through DHL.

PhilippinesBehold Halo-Halo, the Filipino Dessert That's Taking Over New York City

I love Halo halo but like the person above says it is pretty expensive here. We usually go to chowking in Glendale at least once every 2 weeks because my wife wants some Chicken Mami. She usually gets the Naicha as well, so if you add up my meal and halo halo it's gets to be up there for one sitting.

Philippinesmoney transfer service to Philippines
I use WU, mainly because it is so simple to use, and I am in Afghanistan. So I can either go to the local base store or go online. I usually go online, due to there being such a long line there almost all the time. They do have moneygram here but it is in the Afghan bank on base, and they are hardly ever open. I kept trying to use the online option, and it kept getting rejected. So I said screw it. I hate WU online though. Because unlike if I send it in the store which is like a $15 charge every $1000. When I send $1000, I have to pay a $82 charge, so it really sucks.

But I found out about whole currency situation. How they pocket the difference, which is usually about a 1.5php difference per dollar. Which btw does add up.
cyberfx1024MalePhilippines2012-03-06 08:25:00
PhilippinesUPS, FedEx, LBC, USPS

Definitely use either UPS or DHL. I have always used DHL and never had a problem. NEVER EVER use USPS because they use Phil Post and I have had friends of mine who went cheap and used them. When an if the packages arrived it was either missing things or damaged. Sometimes the packages never showed up at all. I know it sucks spending a $100 dollar to send there but the peace of mind is great.
