PhilippinesPolice clearance
She got the fingerprints done at the NBI in Davao, then had to have them shipped off to the DFA in Manila for certification. She got that back within a week. Then you have to send all that stuff to the Qatar embassy in Taguig, they will send it to Qatar. Its about a 6-8week process which sucks

PhilippinesPolice clearance
A checklist? My fiance got it done 3 weeks ago. They have to go to NBI to get the fingerprints down, then send them off to the DFA.

Then DHL the packet to Qatar. You can NOT just go to the embassy in Manila

PhilippinesThe Good Daughter
Yeah my fiance doesn't want me to learn Tagalog to much. She only wants me to speak Bisaya/Cebuano, because that is what they speak where she lives. They only call it Cebuano on Cebu, everywhere else calls it Bisaya. Where is your wife from?
cyberfx1024MalePhilippines2012-06-03 08:18:00
PhilippinesDoes your wife know how to swim?
My fiance and most of her family don't know how to swim, which to me is astounding. I have been able to swim since I was 4 years old, and my fiance now is 31 and doesn't know how to swim.

But to give her credit, her parents never wanted to teach them since a incident when she was alot younger. Her sister died in the deep end of the pool, and her parents never wanted them near the water after that. I am trying to teach her now, whenever I go back she gets alittle better. But I agree with the stereotype alot of pinoys I know don't know how to swim.

Of course. I schedule the interview for a time I knew I would be there. Because she said it would greatly help her out emotionally wise for me to be there. So of course I will be.

Does the US Embassy in Manila allow the petioner to be with the fiance for the interview? I scheduled the interview so that I can be there for my mahal for the interview. But I have read some places that the embassy won't allow me in.

PhilippinesManila too dangerous for my fiancee to stay there...

Quit being so cheap and fly her back and forth. So she can maximize her time with her family before flying to the US.

I agree with this comment. This is what I am doing. I fly my fiance back and forth from Davao to Manila. It isn't that much, you only have to fly her up there 3 times, that's it. Medical, the Interview, and the CFO appt.

Philippinestwo weeks in the philippines
I am a contractor in Afghanistan and I am able to stay for a long period of time. I stayed 29 days in September and loved every minute of it. Yes I overstayed my visa, but all I had to do was pay 3100peso at the airport before I was able to leave. Don't worry about getting extension bc you will just pay the same. But be sure to schedule a appointment for the "Legal Capicity of Marriage" at the US embassy.

I am curious. My mahal and I are wondering something about our interview. Her interview is on Wednesday and I am going to go as well. We are just curious about the visa pictures. She put photos with her medical packet and we are wondering do we need to bring any with us to the interview.

Sorry for not including this earlier. But it's all in what you want to do and where you go. For me it is alot easier just to pay the fine than to actually find someone who can renew the visa for me. Plus I would probably have to pay the same amount anyway maybe more. This is due to because I go to Mindanao up into the mountains of COMVal. So yes it takes awhile for me to go to Davao.

All you have to do is show up. You will be given an intial 21day visa. After that period of time has ended you have 2 choices. Either to renew the visa or just pay the fine on the way out at the airport. It's only roughly $75 or 3000php.

PhilippinesNBI Clearance
My mahal got her NBI in Davao. It took about 10 working days. She got 2 of them. One of them was the sundry card, and the other was the one for "Immigration purposes". We used that one for getting her police clearance from Qatar, and the sundry card one for the interview.

They at first wouldn't give her one for "Immigration purposes", but luckily her brother had a "friend" who worked there. So just went straight there.

I understand that. If you read it again. I go to say that I sent the money to my fiance and SHE paid it, while I called and scheduled the interview.

I just money to my mahal and she paid it at the bpi branch in Davao. Then sent me the picture of the reciept and I scheduled the interview for her. They didn't give me any ####### bc I am the petitioner. Good Luck

PhilippinesA big Thank YOU...
I know this is kind of old but I just returned back from the Philippines. But I wanted to give a brief assesment of what happened at her interview. My fiance's interview was on June 20th, I scheduled it for when I would be there so I could go too. I went there with her with extra of everything needed file wise just in case. I spoke to both the Filipino Official and the American CO. They were both happy to see that I came along as well, so that they could talk to me and see how we reacted to each other. But the filipino co got a really big kick out of seeing my dear and me laugh at each other. Because she is from Compostela Valley, which used to be apart of Davao del Norte when she was born, her birth certificate says Davao Del Norte. He asked her where she was born at and she replied "Compostela Valley, but it sounded like Compostela Valet". Then I laughed I told her it is Valley not Valet and we were joking and laughing. The CO said that he could tell that it is legitimate and then passed us forward to the American CO. The CO then said that she is "APPROVED for the K1 visa". We were so happy and just plainly ecstatic at all this. Because we were so nervous and scared.

I am going to Manila and we are flying to the USA after my contract here in Afghanistan is done. So we CANNOT wait.....

I just want to thank everyone on here who have helped me out by answering my questions no matter how stupid they were. Now all we have left is the CFO seminar.

PhilippinesExpiring Philippine Passport
It's all the Maroon ones now. If she is working abroad tell her just to go to the Philippine Embassy in the country she is working. It doesn't take long that's what my fiance did in Qatar. Her passport was about to expire and she just went to the embassy and got a new one.

PhilippinesIs this typical for a Filipina?
My pinay is also tight lipped alot of times when I talk about the future and share my goals. Basically she is counting on me to make the right decisions for both of us. The only thing she thinks is about what if this or what if that.

Her main goals are for us to be together and start a family, just be happy in general. Also financially secure, not rich but decent.

PhilippinesFlying from Manila.
Thank you all for your comments on this. It is truly a learning experience. Delta is the cheapest for me. Because it flies to Tokyo/Detroit then North Carolina. I also like Qatar, and I might fly them bc it's only a $300 more per person than Delta. They fly into Washington DC, then its 1 hour flight to North Carolina. But either way I look at it. I am flying all the way on the other side of world. I really hate layovers, I would just rather fly straight thru to the destination.

Wow, thank you for your responses. It does look like Delta is the cheapest and the least number of layovers which are a good thing. I am really sketchy about flying PAL such a long haul like that. I have heard some horror stories. But I am still checking it out.

I have a question for my fellow VJers.. Dealing strictly with the flights. What airline did you choose to fly to the USA and for what reason? I am thinking about either Qatar Airlines bc I am a FF or Delta which has a good time of us getting to my home in NC.

Ok... This is for the part about the aswang. My fiance still believes in the aswang or the wok wok and all her friends/family do too. I laughed so hard because when I was there last month the neighbors had a newborn baby boy. According to superstition the wok wok loves the smell of newborns. Well she called up her best friend who is a bakla, and he lives in the house with the newborn too. She called him and told him that she heard the wok wok outside and he should be careful on going home. Needless to say she was joking but her friend believed her and didn't go home but slept at a friend's house.

But my mahal is exactly the same as jena. She loves to walk behind me so she can dart in somewhere to look at stuff. Because she hates me coming with her shopping hehehehe. My fiance was a nanny for 3years in qatar, and she took care of a Western family baby. She had to learn all the European/American techniques of raising him. When she came back to the province she actually showed people new things on taking care of babies. They were amazed at some stuff. My fiance is Bisayan and from the province, she knows English pretty good but some of the finer points get lost with her until I explain them out.

PhilippinesDo I call US Embassy to get interview dates or wait for them so contact me? Got my Case number from NVC already.
No. You don't have to wait for the letter. You have to give them you case number which should be MNL###### and also your reciept number from where you paid the fee at BPI. Then schedule the appt.

Either the you can do it or your fiance can. I did it for my fiance.

PhilippinesTotally Awesome Day!!!!

How you gonna afford to the new job, after all that bling you were making in Asscrackistan? I was thinking about doing that after the military, but contractor work seems iffy right now. Congrats on all the good news. Wish it was always like that!! You guys are definitely moving forward now!

Yeah, I started doing it after I got out of the Marine Corps myself. I saved up some money after over 2 years here. Yeah contracting is starting to get iffy now. The companies are starting to lower pay, and cut people. But I am happy to be leaving now so I can be with my mahal. That is the biggest thing right now.

PhilippinesTotally Awesome Day!!!!
Ok. The last 2 days have been completely awesome. My fiance got her Passport with K1 visa in her hands yesterday. Then I get up this morning and look at my email at work to get the news that I got the job I really wanted in SoCal. We were starting to stress alittle bit about me finding a job back in the states once my contract was done here in Afghanistan. But that is fine now, we are so happy and just ecstatic.

God is good. Thanks everyone for their help in all this.

I use DHL ALL the time. It is quick and efficient. I want to reiterate what another op has said. Once it gets to Manila it could take 1-7 days to get to her, it all depends on where she lives. My fiance is from Compostela Valley, Mindanao. They have a certain schedule when they deliver their because it is out in BFE so to speak. So they call her and ask if she wants to pick it up or give her the day when it can be delivered to her. Usually on average she goes down to Davao to pick it up, and she makes a day for her out of it.

BUT NEVER EVER ON YOUR LIFE SHIP STUFF USPS/PHILPOST THERE. I ordered a watch for her on amazon. The company shipped it USPS International, which goes to Philpost once it gets to Manila. It literally took 3-4 weeks to get to her. Also Philpost is known for stuff to "VANISH" in the box before it gets to the destination.

I had a cleaning and a filling earlier this month down in Mindanao. It was done at my fiance's 1 dentist in town and we had to wait until she got out of working at the local health clinic. But all in all was very good. I was pretty surprised actually. The best part was it was only 800peso. Which is really good.

You have 2 options. 1: Go to traveldocs.com/ph or 2: Just the call embassy to schedule the appt. I called the embassy for my fiance's interview. It took about 10 minutes and it was all set up. While on traveldocs.com it kept timing out on me.

PhilippinesCFO: 12 slots per day?!
Well this whole CFO process sucks in general. It is real inconvenience for people that live down in Mindanao or out in the province. They should open one up in Davao and it would help the process work alot smoother.

The 70 slots is for a different catagory, I believe that's for the immigrant workers. Fiances and spouses are limited to 12/day.

Someone woke up cranky... :energy:

No, just a long day at work right now. I don't like stupidity. If they actually did their current up to date research then they would know.

But not rude, sorry if it came out to be. Just a stressful day at work.

There are 140 slots per day, 70 in the morning and 70 in the afternoon on a first come first served basis according to the Commission on Filipino Overseas workers.

Are you dumb or can't read? Because I am looking at CFO website now. 12 people a day at the Manila, and 12 people a day at Cebu. So what can't you read? Here is the website so that you know.

PhilippinesJob in Philippines
How old is your fiance if you don't mind me asking? She is her on person. It isn't up to her parents if she needs a job or not. She is going on to another step in life, that is being with you. So why should she have to worry about getting a job? My fiance wanted a job so bad when she quit working in Qatar, so we can start the K1 visa. She was used to making her own money. It took alot for me to convince her that getting the visa IS HER JOB.

Also depending on where she lives at, there is ALOT of hassle trying to go up to Manila and back for certain stuff. Do you think her "work" will allow her to take off that time? Probably not is my best guess. So it's up to you, but I would definantly tell her NO.

I find all that rather suspecious myself. Most family members are pretty happy and excited that she is working on her visa to be with you. So for her parents to do that, it doesn't make sense at all.

My fiance does speak Bisaya to me sometimes on accident other times she is doing it to TRY and teach it to me. I have picked up alot of Tagalog mainly from Rosetta Stone and being here in Afghanistan. There are alot of Pinoys here, so I am picking up alot. I can read more than I speak. The thing I hate here is that most of Pinoys here in Kandahar are from Luzon/Pampanga. So I will speak to them in Tagalog, and then they will speak to their friends in Pampangan. It's really frustrating. Also there are not alot of pinoys here who speak Cebuano/Bisaya here, so I can't readily practice Bisaya.

I can generally follow a conversation in Filipino, unless they start talking really fast. Then I am lost. But I love surprising my friends, because I never let them know how much or how little I do know.

I had the same thing happen to me recently with my Smart Roaming Sim. I have been using for 7 months now so my mahal can text me here in Afghanistan. I tried 3 different phones and it STILL wouldn't get a signal if it was set on Automatic. So I finally ended up buying a pos phone for like $25, and having to do it manual set up with network.
