You should also provide them with a credit card statement. Just black out the information that is sensitive.

They don't always ask for proof of purchase, but it is better to beat them to the punch IMHO.

Asia: East and PacificCancelled application and starting a new one for a different relationship
QUOTE (selder @ Aug 8 2008, 09:28 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I appreciate everyones responses to my dilema.

At this time I am planning to visit my Fiance for 10 days in early Sept. I will of course keep all my travel documents and we will simply enjoy our time together and Im not going to get too concerned about how difficult the process will be getting her K1 visa approved.

I have written a formal letter of cancellation for the relationship I spoke of in my first post and I imagine it will take weeks for that cancellation to process. In the meantime I will just enjoy the new relationship I have begun.

If we are meant to be together as I feel we are then I will just be patient and follow the laws as necessaary. I will submit for the waiver and explain exactly what happened with the resolution of the first relationship.

What is the worst case scenario for me?

That I have to wait 2 years and before applying again?

I will reach out to Mark Ellis and see what he thinks, thank you for mentioning his background to me Lucky D.

Finally, I know I screwed up starting an app and having to cancel, I had no idea how heavily scrutinized subsequent relationships would be. So for now I will just wait a few months and let Phuong and my relationship grow and hopefully next year begin the process anew.

Selder
Take care all,

Being there for only 10 days would probably be a problem as well. If it were the Philippines it would probably be O.K.. Evidently fraud doesn't exist there.

We've been using meebo.com for about 6 months. It saves the chats automatically and is a web based application, so you can give the messenger program the ole' heave ho from your computer and still use your Yahoo screen name as well as a few others. I started using it after my old computer crashed and I lost 2 months worth of chats. God Yahoo sucks.

I'm currently taking the TEFL course online, but since you're in NYC you can take it in one week end:

I have seen articles online that said that online courses are frowned upon, but I have no choice.

I'm leaving at the end of December, so ask me how it is teaching there in February or March.

I just want to know how long after they have what they are asking for can she get a visa? Anyone know?

No guarantee, but Ellis has got people through AR (Administrative Review) in a couple of months. There have been others that went and turned in the requested evidence and got the pink within a week, or even on the spot if memory serves me correct.

I too am in a different situation than most, because like Chuck, I married into a professional family. All of them are doctors and engineers. I came back from Vietnam with substantially more money than I brought in.

The woman always holds the money in Northern Vietnam. If the man were to pay for anything publicly, it would be against accepted social custom, and people would at the very least look at you funny. Oddly enough, now that she is here, Mai has let go of this custom completely. I usually pay if we are at the supermarket or the mall (or wherever). She would NEVER tolerate that in Vietnam.

Interesting. I didn't know that. I had Thuy pay because I didn't want to get screwed, but I held on to the majority of the cash.

I'd be very reluctant to use a credit card or a ATM there. I'm reluntant to use them here. I get cash with my debit card at Wal Mart exclusively, and pay cash everywhere I make a purchase. That was if there's a problem there's only one store that could be responsible.

Regarding sending back money I think it really depends on your situation.

Someone posted this over in the off topic section:

Hey, hubby and I are looking for a cheaper way to send money home to Ethiopia (Best right now is Moneygram at $14.00 per transation- too high!). We're thinking of getting a separate checking account giving them a debit/atm card, but we want to see if we can eliminate fees all together. So I've been looking into banks with no ATM fees. I came across Bangor Savings Bank. Anyone hear of them? They are offering no ATM fees world wide, and will reiburse when other banks charge.

Anyone know of any other banks with free ATM usage world wide?

http://www.bangor.co...itChecking.aspx

http://www.visajourn...p;#entry1928843

and I posted:

I did a little investigation on them and didn't find anything unusual:

http://www.google.co...lient=firefox-a

They had some counterfeit Treasury checks passed there and were the target of a phishing scheme. That's normal stuff.

I would have 2 questions for them:

1.) How much they charge for wire transfers.

and 2.) Does Visa charge for the ATM use. My Visa check card requires me to pay 1% for overseas transfers.

That was my thought. I was just going to leave an ATM card on an account I have here in my city. When I wanted to send money I would just deposit money into the account and tell them they could withdraw however much it is. There will be an ATM fee and international fee of a total of $3 for the bank I use myself. For now though when I have needed to send Xuan any money we just use Western Union. It gives receipts of who from and who to and it has that information on the web site too. It does cost more but the quick access to money and receipt are worth it to me.

Just a thought

Jack in Whiteland there is are 2 Pilot Travel Centers and in Seymour there is a Travel Center of America. Western Union has a special program called Direct Connect. You call 877.984.0473 and give them the information. They will then give you an 8 (or maybe 10) digit code. You then take the cash (and it must be cash, as stupid as that is these days) to either travel center (to my knowledge only Pilot and T/A participate) and pay them. It is only a $6 fee for up to $300 I think. It is cheaper than the regular Western Union service. If you do it make sure and ask if you can get a gold card. That way you just give them your number every time and they pull up the information.

QUOTE (chuckandkim @ May 13 2008, 11:49 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
For folks who think they need to notarize everything, do you understand the purpose of public notary and the extend power of it?
Why do you believe you must notarize your "timeline"? What purpose does it serve? How would it help your case?
If you try to answer these questions, the conclusion would probably be: no use!

Public Notary serves only one purpose no matter how you try to twist it: "I, XYZ, see with my own eyes the person whose signature here did sign the piece of paper, and I verify his ID to make sure it matches his name" Done! nothing more!

My question is do the C.O's or the employees at HCMC know? 50 percent of this process makes no sense, so why would it surprise you that people think they need everything notarized? As sure as you don't do it they will ask for it (or something else) to be. Then the response is typically "They can't do that". Well evidently they can, because they just did. Better safe than sorry in my opinion.

My wife and I stayed at a pretty good place in District 7. I will have to ask her the name of it. It was $12 a day and not bad at all. They had Cinemax, HBO and I think MTV. The movies were in English with Vietnamese subtitles. I was VERY surprised that they had these channels. No tub though and I don't think it had air, just a fan. I'm not sure if you would have a problem registering there though. We had just got married, but they never asked to see the papers. You can also look at craigslist. I think it was a foolish question now that these points have been made. It just never occured to me to short circuit the system. My reason for asking the question is because I am out of vacation and can not go back again soon, so the next best thing I though would be for her to visit me. I try to anticipate problems and bad outcomes to situations I guess I just do not think about the dishonest aspect of items. It just does not occur to me most of the time that many people have no honor and would lie about anything like a visitors visa. When I told Xuan that I ask this question she was on the web cam and could not type for a min because she was laughing so hard. whistling.gif

We are both fools then, because I researched it at the beginning of the journey!

Yes I agree with you about me going to Vietnam. If I had enough money I would just live there. One of my goals is to try to save enough money to buy some land and just live there. However, I have made 2 trips and I am out of vacation with my company. I thought it may be an option for us to spend some time together. I guess I just do not think about the fraud aspect. It just never crossed my mind. Thanks for the info, I guess I will just have to wait. Now that I think of it, if it were possiable I am sure others would have done it and there would be advice on here about how.

Getting a vistor visa for your fiancee isn't a good idea for a couple of reasons, one is the HCMC Consulate....... The other is she has to be able to get the visa on her own. For someone from Vietnam that means they have to show that they want to return to Vietnam, have conpelling reasons to return (ie, business, family, etc). In the case of a K1 visa, it is not likely that she could convince the Consulate she would return since you have filed to bring her to the US.

Most vistor visas to the US from Vietnam are granted to older Vietnamese who have enough money in the bank, land, homes, family, etc in Vietnam to convince the Consulate they would return. A 47 year old Vietnamese woman, I met on VietSingle tried to get a vistor visa to the US. She was trying to get to the US because she thought if she got here she could find a husband and stay. She had no relatives in the US but does have many friends who have moved here. From what she told me about the evidence she gave to the Consulate and that she was denied, it leads me to believe they check everything you submit very closely.

If you have the time, it's better that you go to Vietnam, that would make her family happier since they will get to know you better (remember you're taking her away from them) and strengthen your case to HCMC Consulate.

A foreigner can't own land in Viet Nam. I have wondered whether the Spouse gives up their right or if you are married there, like Thuy and I were, if you could then.

Rumor has it that Visitor Visas and Student Visas are nearly impossible for a Vietnamese Citizen to get. The excuse is, you guessed it, that Viet Nam is a high fraud Country.

Welcome to America Mai! I noticed that the weather is taking a turn for the worse around there. Hopefully a good old fashioned Iowa storm doesn't scare the hell out of her!

I was wondering about the proof I needed to show that I can take care of my soon to be wife.
I understand maybe I need the last 3 years tax returns, bank statements, life insurance.

I want to know if I make enough to cover for her or do I need a co-signer?

I make U.S. Military pay, and I have $400,000 life insurance, and about $ 10,000 in the bank currently. is that enough or how much to I need ?

thanks!!! kicking.gif

Military Personnel only need to meet 100% of the poverty level if I'm not mistaken. So look at your number of Dependents (including your Fiancee/Spouse) and you'll have your number.

Look, a typo on the Dept. of State website!

100%) for an active member of the U.S. Armed Forces sponsoring his orher spouse or children.

awesome, Just what I was looking for, I make over $20,000 a year so there should be no problem!!!! Thank you ZeeNusah and WideAwakeInTheUSA for the quick responses!!!!

No problem. Always willing to help a member of the Armed Forces. Thank you.
