K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsDo Congressional Reps Really Have Clout with INS?
QUOTE (coyote @ Feb 22 2008, 11:12 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Has anyone had the experience that their Congressman (or Congresswoman) has made a difference in the wait time? At which stage in the process?

Thanks --

They wont do anything unless your case is outside of normal wait times, or if you might qualify for an expedited case.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsQuestion about residency for I-129 filing
You might qualify for DCF if you marry in Indonesia. Its a faster process than most other visas.

If you are going to stick with K-1, You should file based on NH and any official proof showing your temporary residence should work fine.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJakarta embasy interview

I have more info. I called the USCIS here in the US and they said basically its in Jakarta's hands now. They said the May 25 deadline cannot be extended and she must get the visa by then; at which time a new 90 day clock will start meaning we must marry here in the US within 90 days. Believe me, that part will not be a problem. She emailed Jakarta embassy about what they want (as of now she has not recieved packet 3 in the mail yet) and they said among other things they want the 2008 tax return, not 2009. Now, I am completely confused, as I was under the impression that the current year(2009) was what they wanted. 2009 was better for me than 2008, I would much rather use that. I am self-employed. I do have assets. Anybody have recent personal experience with the Jakarta Embassy? Please help us.

Provide both years. There is no harm in providing extra documentation.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJakarta embasy interview

Thank you so much for this. I am new here and so much goverment red tape is confusing. WE got this far (uscis and nvc approval) with a great deal of info from this site, and much work from my fiance (thank you Lena), and the last stage, approval from Jakarta, is the one we are most concerned about. So you are saying the May 25 deadline means she must interview by then? It does not mean that the visa must be issued by then? And if we hit a snag, (I hope not), the date can be extended? Who does this, the USCIS or Jakarta? And its no problem?

I am making a 2nd visit, and being at the interview will help you say? She was not so sure that it would. I have heard both ways; it would help; it would hurt. I just want to get this done without problems. I am self employed and will bring 2009's tax info, and a list/proof of my assests. Any other things to bring to help get this done. We have letter of intent to marry, many pictures, many receipts from last time there in Sept '09, receipts for engagement/marriage rings, cell phone bille, hundreds of hours of skype conversations, letters of congradulation, I have made her the beneficary of my life ins, and its a good policy, and would it help to tell them I will put her on the house title when we marry?

I am concerned to see just what Jakarta wants, as I hear they are not all the same and even different people at the same embassy can have different criteria. Any info GREATLY appreciated, and thanks in advance.

Once the embassy in Jakarta receives the packet from the NVC, they will send out packet 3. Your fiancee will need to get a medical done, and any documents they request. Birth Certificate, police records, passport, etc. Its all in a list as part of packet 3. Bring all that in to the embassy, and you will get packet 4, the interview date. Which in Jakarta could be as soon as the next day, there is rarely much of a wait for an interview.

You can find more information here: http://www.visajourn...amp;cty=Jakarta

Being at the interview does not matter for Indonesia. I'm not even sure they will allow you to be in the interview room even.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsApplying for a new K-1 visa after a former application was rejected

Ok. I applied for a K1 in 03 that was delayed due to a request for more information.
This is the scenario. I lived with a woman for 6 years in Texas and we never actually applied for a marriage licence. We split and I decided to try and marry a foriegn bride. I listed my "common law" as my wife on the application. I explained that we never ever actually had a marriage licence but they still asked me to produce a divorce certificate. I never followed up because my foreign fiancee and I decided not to get married.

My question is do I have to list this on my current K1 application as a rejection.? Also how do I get past them asking for a divorce certificate if we never were actually married?

Yes you to have to list it.

Common law marriage is recognized as a legal marriage in some states (including Texas). However, getting out of it can be difficult. You will have to look at your state laws for that.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsRFE

Hi anyone in here received an RFE for I-129F. Just got my letter from USCIS re RFE 1. meeting in person 2. foreign documents translation. Just wondering why they were asking those documents. When i submitted my application I had several photographs of us together and the documents that i submitted like boarding pass, passport have english translation of it. Why do you think they are asking those things that I already submitted. Thanks

In addition to including proof of meeting, you also need a letter explaining how and when you met. That meeting must have occurred within the past 2 years.

Usually foreign documents translation is needed for documents like a birth certificate or other official documents included with your petition that are not in English. Did you send copies of any documents that were not in English?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsPre Wedding Before Leave US

Thanks guys for the feedback. Before we plan to get married in US, and just have farewell party here but seems K1 process takes longer now, so we plan to get married and file CR1. Just in case. We will have second wedding for all of his family once we get there. What you think guy?. I am still confuse.

If you are already waiting for K-1 I don't think its a good idea to start over. It certainly wont be any faster.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsPre Wedding Before Leave US
You can have a ceremony in Indoneisa as long as you don't take the steps to recognize the ceremony as a marriage. Weddings are conducted within each faith in Indonesia, with the exception of Muslim marriages, you would have to register your ceremony with the government to be considered married (I think its called Catatan Sipil). If you are on a K-1 visa, you would not do that step.

For a Muslim ceremony, you would normally be issued a Buku Nikah (Marriage Book). In that case, you would want to inform the imam performing the ceremony not to do that.

You may be asked questions upon entry about your marriage status/plans. Just use common sense, if you do a ceremony but do not follow through with the legal recognition of it, you are not yet married. They do not need to know about a ceremony that did not change your marriage status. If you do tell them about it, it can cause confusion and problems.

Once you are in the US, you will have to register your address with the local Indonesian consulate/embassy to keep your citizenship. You may also optionally register your US marriage to be recognized in Indonesia. That part is only really necessary if you intent to move back to Indonesia later.

It really depends on the airline you take. Some airlines will probably transit through JFK anyway before going to the west coast. If thats the case, you may be able to stay in New York without getting an expensive ticket. I don't think they there should be any problem with staying in NYC for a week as long as you have the ticket to your final destination.

Middle East and North AfricaOnline translating
No machine translator is capable of producing the quality of translation a human can. Language is complicated. A lot of words have different meanings depending on the context. Most people don't necessarily follow formal language rules when writing. Slang and style will easily trip up a machine translator. Alot of languages dont always consistantly follow rules. Just look at English, for every rule. there are a dozen exceptions. At least for now, the quality of translation by machine is limited, that could change in the future.

Make sure you are viewing the page as unicode. With other character sets, it will just show gremlins.

Middle East and North AfricaVisa Fee?
QUOTE (k & o @ Apr 26 2008, 02:39 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi guys,

This is a question that I've been pondering: how much is the visa fee? The way it sounds to me: just taking out a few money bills at the "window" to pay, but I read somewhere else that it costs $400 or something? Can someone clarify this?

(Yes, I realize it takes time and money and that it's worth it in the end, but still... yikes... gotta save up more!)

Thanks!

For K-1, the visa fee is $131. How and when you pay it depends on the embassy you will have your interview at.

CR-1/IR-1 visas have a much higher visa fee, since its considered an immigrant visa. But i think its paid directly to the NVC instead of the embassy.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWhat does it mean when you have a priority date printed on your I-797C notice of action

So that mean what again? ?
All I'm trying to figure out is if my request for expedite haas been approved.

Priority Date has more meaning for other family petitions. Spousal petitions have no cap and are effective immediately. For other family members, the priority date would determine the wait time to be eligible for a visa.

The visa bulletin, published monthly, has the priority dates for each category: http://travel.state....letin_1360.html

Yeah. The waiting part is stressful. Not to mention when all of sudden my mind is attacked by negative thoughts, mostly at nights. That's why I get sleep deprivation problem and a bit hair loss. I hope I would still have my hair attached once this process is done. My process is not even that complicated yet like others here. But still stressful is stressful.

Fill out and sign the DS-230 (OF-230) Part 1 biographical data sheet and send it back to the Consulate
Hang on to the DS-156 and 156K application forms. Fill them out but do NOT sign them until the interview itself, as the signatures must be witnessed by the Consular official.
