A senator might help if it takes along time, months or more. But all you can do is call the consulate weekly to keep tabs on thier progress.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionself-sponsoring without an income

Hi all, I am a student, and therefore dont have an income. I do however have a large amount in bonds etc. Will they want to see enough to = 125% above poverty line for the 3 years or what have you or something else? I can get a co-sponsor but I'd rather just do it myself. Thanks!

From what I understand you would need about $50,000 in assets in order to use assets solely as a means of support. $16,000 x 3 years.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionNew case number when transferred to the embassy??
NVC does assign another case number. Ussualy the first 3 letters idicate which consulate is getting the case. You can only track it by calling NVC, but for the most part K-1s are in and out of the NVC in a couple days.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionwhat counts as income?
Primarly your income would include what you make from a job. But if thats not enough, you can include other assets such as investments. Im not sure I would count investment income as income, but rather the value of your investments as assets.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 or I-864 for K1?

Which Affidavit of support is needed for K1 interview - I-134 or I-864? The guide says I-134 but I read packet 3 checklist sample somewhere on the net and it seems to suggest I-864.

Can someone please confirm?

I-134 for interview

I-864 for AOS

Is there a link that shows exactly what we are to provide to the Fiance for the interview relating to, bank info, work lettter, tax filing, etc?

Thanks in advance

It varies a bit by consulate and what you are using to justify your support. Not all consulates use the I-134.

Your mom might get a form called 1099-R. That should report any pension income. If they have other assets, such as stocks or bonds, a statement from the holding account should suffice.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPoverty Guidelines/Life and Medical Insurance
Yes you can have a co-sponsor and it doesnt need to be a family member.

You may not be able to get insurance until your fiancee is in the US. Life insurance isnt really nessary, but helpful if you have children. Your best bet is to probably get short term medical insurance when he arrives and then after you get married put him under your own plan.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionage difference of couple
Significant age diffrences are more acceptible in some cultures outside of the US. Although an age diffrence is not a reason to deny a visa, they will probably be looking closer at your relationship. Large age gaps, are a possible sign of fraud.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionReschedule K1 interview due to lack of co-sponsor?
You may be able to reschedule, thats up to the embassy. You can only push the interview date up so far, if you dont follow through, they will cancel the petition and you would likely have to start over.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionEmployed fiance but...

Hi,

Myself and my fiance are just about to start the K1 visa process but one part is particularly bothering me. When it comes to the Affidavit of Support form, my fiance (who is American) is under the stated poverty level because she only works part time so I guess we would need to get a co-sponsor. She works as a nanny looking after a couple of families kids but she gets paid under the table, would this completely mess up our application assuming it gets to that point in the petition? and if so what would the best course of action for us now if that was the case bearing in mind that we would most likely have quite a few months before even getting to that stage in the petition?

Your help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers,
Paul

It would probably be best if she finds work where her income is reported and can earn above the poverty level on her own. But if nessary she can use a co-sponsor. Although the I-134 (used for the interview) is not legally binding, the I-864 (used with AOS) is. If you have a co-sponsor, they are legally obligated to support you until certain conditions are met. You can use a co-sponsor at the interview stage, to give your finacee time to meet the requirement on her own, to sponsor you at the AOS stage.

There may not be much you can do to delay the interview, but you wont have to use the K-1 visa right away, its valid for 6 months.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionlima interview- document tranlations
If you dont need it translated for the interview, you will need it translated later for AOS. So getting the birth certicate translated is helpful.

Jakarta provided a list of certified translators with packet 3. And we used someone off that list. But you will probably be fine if you have a friend do it. You might run into trouble if you do it yourself.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionOutdated medical forms (DS-XXXX)
Hi,
The U.S Embassy in Jakarta sent me 4 medical forms that has expire date on 05/30/2007. I used them for my medical on June. So far no problemo. But if you want to be assured you could always make an inquiry via email to the U.S Embassy in Thailand regarding your question.
Good luck on your medical :)

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 Affadavit of Support Form
1. Gross income. I only included my base salary. I am part of a profit sharing program at work, which does increase my overall earnings quite significantly, but its subject to change and varies from month to month.

2. Find out what the consulate wants to see.

3. The question doesnt really apply to K-1 visa since your fiancee will be immigrating, But I put something to the effect of: I intent to support (fiance name) as my fiancee and then my wife once we are married.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMedical exam and Police Report

My fiancee got a police report done in here city about 1 1/2 hour flight north of Lima, when we have the interview date will she need a new one done from here city and/or in Lima? Also what about a medical exam I have been hearing about. I know we have few months to go but I was just curious. Thanks.

You may or may not need a new police certifcate. It depends how long its valid for and when you will likely have your interview. Normally police certificates are valid for 3 to 6 months.

With packet 3, you should get a list of doctors were your fiancee will have her medical at. You will schedule it or the embassy will. But you have to have the medical completed before a visa can be granted. You may only be able to get the medical scheduled once you have packet 3.

Does she need an appointment to turn in the documents? In Jakarta you can go in 3 days a week for document screening. If everything is good, they give you your interview date right there. No Appointment needed.

There is no information on the Embassy info page for Kenya, so I have no idea what the instructions may have said.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPregnant, Philippines, Interview Date Received, Scared

MISC Complications: Fiancee has a 5 year old son who was listed on original petition submitted by me. Son will not be coming with Fiancee initially (speaks no english plus need to prepare US situation and get fiancee comfortable here before having a new baby + 5 year old non-english speaking son).. Newborn baby girl will be coming with. Son will be following in the next couple of years.. (Fiancee has 11 bro/sis. Son will be well taken care of)

children can usually easily adapt to a new situation, probably more so than us adults. My wife and I were also considering having her daughter follow to join. After much consideration decided the most important thing was being together as a family. I know everyone's circumstances are different. I wish you well in whatever you decide to do.

So they can issue a US passport at the embassy in manila? I am a little unclear. The child will most likely be born after the interview or right before. Regardless of that what about the medical exam? She will have that while she is still pregnant. How is this going to effect the interview and or timely issuance of a visa? I think my thread got moved for whatever reason but there are several questions I listed originally that I am still very unclear on :(

Thanks for everyones help in regards to the child though!

Yes, embassies and consulates abroad can issue passports. I'm not really sure about the complexities of having a medical exam while pregnant. The consulate may require another medical again after the child is born, or they may just require the medical to be completed before applying for AOS.

Wont work for originals.

EMS via USPS is probably your cheapest option, if EMS service is reliable in the country you are sending to. I haven't had any problems with it sending to Indonesia. Takes about 5-7 business days. But its trackable.

If you need it there faster, than UPS, DHL or Fedex are your only options.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionQuestions about Medical Exam and Passport Photos
If you can get vaccinations done for free or cheap through national healthcare, or any health care plan, you can definetly do that. Just bring the records with the the medical appointment. Its likely that your fiancee already has at least some of the required vaccines and may just require a booster.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionQuestions about Medical Exam and Passport Photos

First of all, I really appreciated all the information Amanda posted about the Dublin Consulate at the following link!
http://www.visajourn...e...&cty=Dublin

I have just a few questions if someone could help. I'm from Minnesota, USA and I'm trying to help my fiancé who's from Cork, Ireland to prepare for her medical examination and interview.

Here are my two question topics:

1. I saw that that the doctors she could contact were listed. When she goes to one of them, will they perform a medical examination that satisfies the need for the examination? Do they administer the vaccinations that she needs at that point? Is there any documentation or things she must do when she goes to the med exam, like paperwork she needs to make sure they fill out and give her a copy of?

2. I saw that it was listed that 2 passport photos for the med exam and 2 passport photos for the interview are required. Since one photo is required for the I-129f application itself, am I right in believing this means my fiancé needs 5 total passport photos? Or does she just need 3, one for the I-129f and 2 that she uses at the med exam as well as at the interview? Also, do all of those photos need to be identical, as in, the one we send in with the I-129f and the ones she uses at the med exam and the interview?

Thanks for any time you have in answering these questions. I appreciate it greatly.

Sincerely,
Seth

1. They will do an examination as required for the visa. If you dont already have certian vaccinations done, they can be done at the medical as well. Some may be postponed if your fiance is pregnant or may become pregnant soon. Paperwork is ussualy taken care of by the doctor. Its either delivered directly to the embassy/consulate or your fiancee will have to pick it up.

2. She will need 5, but as long as they meet US passport photo standards, they dont have to be the same.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionImportant Question! SOS!

Hey guys.
The situation is this. I was studying in Bulgaria for 4 years so I got a Police Certificate from there on February 7th. It will expire on August 7th. Due to this 2 years home residence requirement I will have an interview sometimes in October probably but I left Bulgaria in May when the certificate was still valid and never went back.
Do you guys think that it will be a problem if i'm gonna show them the one I have or do I have to get a new one just so it would be valid on the interview itself?
Thank you. I will appreciate any answer

Lenka, if i am not mistaking the P.C. should be valid for 1 year. Why is yours valid only for 6 months?

It varies from country. Indonesian one is only valid for 6 months.
