US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMarriage license as a proof of relationship
The only issues I could see with a marriage license being used as proof of relationship are these:

1) whether the consulate officer would see the marriage license and assume that you were already married

2) the validity period of the marriage license (I'm not sure about Florida, but in Pennsylvania once the marriage license is issued you have only a certain amount of time to use it before it's invalidated)

3) whether it's possible to obtain a marriage license without both parties present (in some states it's required for both applicants to be present at the time of application)

So far I haven't heard anyone use a marriage license as proof. I don't see how it can help to prove that you both are in a valid relationship, other than that it proves intent to marry. IMO, the consulate officer could see it as a physical indication that you both wish to enter into a marriage, which is honestly the same thing as a letter of intent.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMedical ~ Vaccination
QUOTE (Kim&Will @ Oct 18 2007, 02:03 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I am in Vancouver BC Canada and Dr. Ian Morgan's office told me that they can send me for the rubella or MMR (measles, mumps & rubella) on the day of the exam if I cannot get to my family doctor. I will have to pay for it and am not sure what it costs but it can't be too much.

BC MSP (or other Canadian provincial health care) will pay for the cost of vaccinations so it's best to get them done from a family doctor, as the panel physician will most likely charge you for the boosters.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMedical ~ Vaccination
If you're missing vaccinations, you can always get them from your family doctor. Just get a record of those vaccinations so that you can show the panel physician that you've taken them when your medical comes around.

I'd agree that the only time it may come up is during the interview at the consulate. My fiance and I were questioned about how our families felt with our different cultural values.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussioninterview sept 5 in vancouver

Hi everyone,

I received my notice today from Vancouver that my interview is SEPT 5...................thank god!!!!! Does anyone know the best hotel to stay close to vancouver consulate. Is the consulate easy to find? i am soooo excited and still a little nervous regarding my denial per sec 212a7A back in Nov 2006................please pray for us that we will not be denied.

thanks, mary lou

Some places people have mentioned in the Canada Forum before have been the Century Plaza and the Days Inn, which are both close to the consulate.

My fiance stayed at the Century Plaza Hotel twice and we were both really impressed at the service, and on off-season their rates are amazing for the downtown area (in February it was $85 per night).

WellW,

You can also go look up reviews for the consulate here on VJ - usually there are a lot of details there about the interview as well.

Good luck on your interview! :D

Definitely make copies of the financial evidence you're using for your interview. My now-husband gave me his original copy of the 1040 that he filed in 2006 and forgot a photocopy it for my interview at the embassy. Luckily my father-in-law had a .pdf file on his computer! laughing.gif

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionUSCIS Form I-134
Yes, since your household size will only be two (you and your fiance) and you've said she makes $24k a year then that'll be fine for support. Minimum guidelines for a household size of two is $17,112 a year. smile.gif

Note that these guidelines are more for adjusting status but you can get a basic idea of what guidelines you're looking at from here:

http://www.uscis.gov...form/I-864P.pdf

Your fiance will need tax returns, an employer from her letter and paystubs to prove that she can support you when you turn in your I-134 at the consulate interview.

i'm sptember filer we are wating to get aproved the probleme is my fiance lives with her familly in the states so i'm wondring if that wouldn't be a probleme for our k1 hope to hear from you

That's not a problem, the concern is whether your fiance can financially support you. If she doesn't make above 125% of the poverty guidelines she'll have to find a co-sponsor for you.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionInterview experiences
Click here for review on consulates - just tag "Finland" to refine the search. You can also click here to find examples of interview questions that have been asked. The best piece of advice I ever received was that the consulate interview was more of a friendly conversation than anything - that should help dispel some of the interview jitters.

Hopefully that helps you out. Good luck smile.gif

My husband attended the interview with me at the Vancouver consulate. It was painless and easy - the interviewing officer even asked him a couple of questions about our relationship.

And, if i need a co sponser, this form confuses me. Question 3 of form http://www.uscis.gov.../form/I-134.pdf says "affidaivt excecuted on behalf of..." Does this mean my co-sponser should fill that out on behalf of ME or on behalf of my fiance.

The I-134 would be executed on behalf of the non-USC fiance, since the co-sponsor will be completing the form to prove that he/she can meet the minimum requirements in order to support your fiance.

I have a few digital pictures of my journey to poland when we met this summer. Maybe only 3-5 of us both in the picture. Is this acceptable as proof of meeting and having an ongoing relationship in the last 2 years? There are no dates on the picture....im not sure how else to proove it. Otherwise all i have is my passport stamped and dated.

Proof of having met within the last two years is given through primary evidence such as boarding passes, passport stamps, hotel receipts, etc. Photos are taken as secondary evidence and cannot solely be used to prove the two-year requirement.

Proof of having an ongoing relationship can be collected for the interview at your fiance's embassy - for now it's not necessary to send that type of evidence to USCIS with your I-129F petition.

At what point in the process is it safe for me to leave my mailing address without worry of more forms coming? I believe after the second notice of action, there is no more input required from me after i mail the packet to my fiance...is this correct?

The reason i ask is, because once this process is started and going , i want to go back to europe to with my fiance for a few months until she gets her visa.

Possible? At what point of the process?

You won't be receiving any further mail about your I-129F petition after the NVC mails you a letter stating that the petition has been forwarded to the appropriate consulate. The letter is simply a notification letter and doesn't usually require a response.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAnyone get an RCMP fingerprint check?
QUOTE (GrenadianCrix @ Sep 6 2007, 01:50 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I'm not posting this in the Canada forum because Canadians don't usually need to go through this process while living in Canada.

Actually, all Canadians who are going through at least the K1 process are required to obtain a police certificate for their consulate interview. Most of the time one can get a basic name check which takes a very short time, but those who have had prior criminal records are also required to submit their fingerprints as well, which stretches the process out by months.

From what I've heard, anyone who's submitted their fingerprints will need to wait an estimated time of 150 days - sometimes shorter than that, but that's their standard wait time.

Did you submit through RCMP?

Hee, welcome to VJ and good luck with your process.

My fiance and I met through WoW too. (World of Warcraft, an online role-playing game, for those that are scratching their heads.) Now, here come the geek questions.

CanadaCulture shock for Canadians in the US

Nini & Bee, what part of PA are you moving to? We're in the Philadelphia area.

My fiance (Bee) lives in Devon, near King of Prussia. I'm originally from Vancouver, myself.

What I've been really grateful for is Whole Foods and Trader Joes, which produces both organic foody and a wide selection of cheeses. Funnily enough, the last time I was over here, my fiance and I managed to find this amazingly tasty sharp white cheddar. Turns out that it was from Vermont. :D

I didn't mean to sound so despondent in my last post, because I am finding things that I like about the area, but it's definitely been a bit of a shock sometimes when I do the usual daily routine. I'll probably never get used to the highway system, though!

Luckily my fiance agrees with the organic/recycling thing, and he's been very happy to support the local farmer's markets. All we really need is to find a recycling depot like they do in Vancouver, and we're a little closer to what it's like for me at home. :)

CanadaCulture shock for Canadians in the US
I'm worried that I'm not going to adapt once I move to PA, too. I felt like such a foreigner when I asked a waiter at a restaurant where the washroom was and he said condescendingly, "You mean the bathroom, right?"

I mean, there's a lot of other stuff too, like the recycling around here (non-existent) and the high fructose corn syrup. I read labels to see whether HFCS is in it and it's become a joke around my friends and family. And I can't get used to not seeing the French labels either. :(

I guess it's just worry about finding a job too, since I only have an associate's degree. I worry that I'm just not going to adjust, but I'm trying to find the good side in everything. (And I really do like the fact that PA sales tax is half as much as BC sales tax, and that things seem to be slightly cheaper over here.)

CanadaFINALLY...our NOA2 !
Congrats on your NOA2!

My suggestion is, not making any firm plans for the wedding. Always be optimistic that you'll get a speedy process, but if things get delayed, it would suck more if you had to lose money on your special day.

Other than that, good luck in the last half of your journey! :D

AndreaK,

This RCMP site may help you about the police certificate stuff: http://www.rcmp.ca/c...c/finger2_e.htm

I know in Vancouver, I have to go directly to the RCMP office with paperwork from the consulate to prove that I have a reason to obtain a certificate. If you're also going directly to your local RCMP office, I'd assume it'd be a similar process. As far as I know, they'll have the form on hand to take your fingerprints.

I'm also not sure about the cost, since it says on the RCMP BC site that it costs $40 and on the general site it says it costs $25.

Congrats in getting your NOA2! I'm also waiting for my Packet 3 from Vancouver right now. I'd give them about three to four weeks, really, but I was also wondering if there was any way to get email notification from NVC or the consulate so that we're not so antsy? :D
