What a long day sleep.gif

One civil surgeon in Media wanted $250 for that damn sheet. Hell, no. Another place wanted to schedule me in for next month - and when they heard I just needed the form, the same damn argument of "oh well you need a medical". I told them to read their instructions dry.gif

I finally found a doctor in nearby Norristown this Friday. I asked them about cost, and I think they quoted me for the actual vaccinations - so hopefully it'll be extremely cheap. If not, I'll suck up my pansy fear and send in a copy of the worksheet whistling.gif

Oooo, I must've missed that link while using the search feature. rolleyes.gif

Those suggestions that Krikit mention in her post are worth considering. I would definitely try submitting the vaccination worksheet (DS-3025) to see if I could slide under the RFE radar, but I'm too much of a pansy to risk it. Plus, I'd be fretting the entire time about getting an RFE and going to the back of the line again, which would make me rather antsy dry.gif

If anything, I'll see whether I can twist some of those stubborn civil surgeons into reading the instructions on the I-485. It's ridiculous that we can't call USCIS to complain about some of the doctors who they certify as being competent enough to do AOS medical examinations.

Okay, so today I call the nearest civil surgeon by our house so that I can get my vaccination supplement transferred for AOS.

I kid you not, this is the exact conversation I had with the lady:

"Hi, I understand that Dr. Stadlen is a civil surgeon for USCIS and I can transfer my vaccinations over for adjusting status?"

"Yes, you mean for the I-693A? Well, we can get you in on November 26th for an appointment. But you'll need to come back in for the tuberculosis test since the doctors aren't in on those days."

"...um, tuberculosis test?"

"Yes, it's part of the medical exam that you'll need to adjust status."

"Well, I'm exempt from a medical because I've already been asked to have one this year."

"By who?"

"USCIS asked me to have a medical exam before I immigrated here. They'll have records of it."

"Do you yourself have any records?"

"...um, excuse me?"

"Do you have any records of taking this medical?"

"No, but USCIS does."

"Well, we don't know that you've had this medical, so we'll need to give you one."

"...but I just need the vaccination supplement. I don't need another medical, I've already had one this year, it says on the instructions that I'm exempt from having another one. I have the x-ray from that medical exam..."

"Where did you have your medical done? Here?"

"No, overseas in Canada."

"Do you have records of taking this medical?"

"No, but USCIS knows I've taken the medical."

"Well, you have to prove that you've taken this medical before we can exempt you from it."

"...you know, I'll call you back."

ARGH. I am not shelling out a gazillion dollars for another exam. sleep.gif

I have the vaccination worksheet that the panel physician gave to me in Vancouver - but as far as I know, I need to have that copied over to an I-693A before I can mail in my AOS papers. I'm guessing that either I'm going to call every single civil surgeon in the general area, or I'm SOL and biting the bullet. I'm quite frustrated, to say the least.

I'm kinda annoyed at how they changed the rules, even though it's way easier for Canadians to get it done now. I was going to ask Bee's just-became-a-lawyer friend to guarantee mine since he's a US citizen (and it gave us a great excuse to visit him in NYC whistling.gif) but with that I'm going to be scrambling around during my Vancouver trip getting all that done.

CanadaUS Dollar Accounts at Canadian Banks
I managed to snag some time at my local RBC branch today, and spoke to an incredibly helpful financial services officer there who talked to me about RBC Centura. Even though he admitted that he didn't know a lot about the service, he managed to score some info for me.

Amongst other things, it's a $3.95/month fee for their RBC Access USA Service package, unless you maintain a $700 minimum monthly balance in the account. You also don't have to be a US permanent resident in order to qualify for the service. And of course, no fee to transfer cross-border funds. smile.gif

I haven't quite managed to swim through the pile of information, but he also suggested that I check into HSBC as they do have a global package as well, which might be more convenient for me since their closest branch is in Philadelphia proper.

Ooo, I just caught this thread and the mentions about RBC Centura. I know when I discussed my bank accounts with an officer at my local RBC branch they mentioned US banking, but this makes it so much more clearer. Definitely an option for helping to pay off my student loans, even though the nearest branch from PA is in Virginia. smile.gif

If DH doesn't have the full record of immunization then you must have your Td shot no more than 2 months prior to the physical as the normal Td immunization schedule is three shots within a 12 month period.

I don't believe that's right - as far as I'm aware, only one shot is administered for the TD booster shot.

QUOTE (IR5FORMUMSIE @ Aug 24 2007, 09:00 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Once DH gets his shots, get the immunization record book (yellow card) filled in by the doctor or nurse.

If you need to get the booster shots once the results of the titres test is in, a letter will suffice from the doctor stating that he's received the booster shots and won't need them again at the medical exam.

With doing the blood test and chest x-ray ahead of time so there are no surprises... definitely a personal choice, but I wouldn't put myself unnecessarily through the x-ray machine.

CanadaGetting vaccination records
When I got my shots done at my local doctor, I had her write a letter for the medical exam stating that I didn't need to take the vaccinations, since I'd been confirmed by blood testing to be immune to chicken pox and I'd been given boosters for MMR and TD. smile.gif

And how long to get the results once you are tested?

Depends on the speed of the laboratory in your area - I know in BC it usually takes about four days or so from MDS Metro to get blood test results.

Criminal record checks with fingerprints often take longer to process. Depending on where you currently live, you can go to a Commissionaires to get fingerprinted, but I'd definitely call your local RCMP detachment for more info.

This is the RCMP link for criminal checks: http://www.rcmp-grc....c/finger2_e.htm

Vancouver issues the visa for next day pick up. If there's a lineup outside the consulate door when you go to get your visa, ask the security guard at the front and she'll most likely let you bypass the lineup. Make sure you have an umbrella in case it's raining - that envelope is huuuuuuuuuuge. happy.gif

Be sure to get your deposit paid at a Scotiabank branch before you go to the interview - there's a branch located on the corner of Robson and Bute St if you're staying downtown.

Make sure that you bring very little with you to the interview - you'll have to go through two security checks, and there was a girl there that had to come back because she brought a cell phone with her. You're able to go into the consulate at 12.45pm so the earlier you get in there, the better. Don't forget to bring your case letter as they will want to see that at the door.

You'll do fine, so don't fret about it too much! Good luck! biggrin.gif

I know there have been people who have contacted the MTL consulate to get their petition transferred to Vancouver, but I'm not sure whether you can do it prior to the petition reaching the original consulate.

Since you'll be in AB for an unspecified amount of time, it's more than likely that they'll approve your transfer - cross your fingers! biggrin.gif

Canadadate for interview at Vancouver
QUOTE (dearheart @ Sep 5 2007, 04:20 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
We received Packet 3 today! We are debating when to say we are available to come for the interview. I have left 3 messages with the Dr. in Calgary. He will be doing the medical for my husband on Friday, the 7th. The results will have to be couriered out to us, here in Sask. Do you think allowing two weeks sufficient time to get those medical results. I wish the Dr office would just call back! I was hoping someone had experience here. I am thinking that if we say we are available anytime after Sept 24th would be OK??

Thanks a bunch!

That sounds fine, dearheart. Two weeks is reasonable time for the medical results to get to you.

One of the other VJ'ers just received her interview date for around September 24th, so it's more than likely that you'll get a very late September date or even an early October one. smile.gif
