CanadaCanadians Facing Delays in Renewal of Passports by Mail
QUOTE (Karly-n-Bruce @ Nov 4 2007, 09:25 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I was planning on renewing my passport to change my name (married name) and address (passport for Canadians living in US), but I might just wait because my passport doesn't expire until 2011. Do any of you think I'll have problems with the border if I don't change my name/address any time soon?

Till your passport expires, you can always book tickets in the name that appears on your passport, and bring your marriage certificate and/or green card with you.

CanadaCanadians Facing Delays in Renewal of Passports by Mail
My passport expires in July 2008 and I'm hoping to get it done in Vancouver over March during a friend's wedding, so that I can come back in August 2008 for a family wedding. Ugh, I hope they're not going to give any of us non-resident Canadians grief when we go apply in person on our "extended holidays" sleep.gif

It's so silly that MTL uses form letters. Even the Vancouver consulate takes the time to type out a short answer that pertains to the subject of the email. sleep.gif

CanadaCanada Revenue Question
http://www.cra-arc.g...eaddress-e.html

A week or two after I'd moved, I called CRA over the phone to let them know that I'd moved away from Canada. I remember calling the number listed on the webpage, which directed me to another phone number. The lady I spoke to was great in taking down my new address and assuring me that my tax package would be directed there come tax season.

Hope that helps a little bit, Len!

edit: oh, and I found this page on CRA's website about non-residents. It's all mumbledygook to me, unfortunately!

finally, a bit of good news!!

I managed to talk to the radiologist directly, and explain my situation. When I explained that I will also be calling every day to check on cancellations (cause they don't do waitlists), an appointment magically opened up this Friday.

Shew!! That should give them plenty of time to get the results back to my doctor to review before my interview smile.gif

I don't really go for the pre-medical chest x-ray myself. All that radiation might make your bones liquefy, you know. laughing.gif

In all seriousness, I'm for preventative medicare myself, but there are instances where you can go too far with it. I agree with Emancipation when she says that people shouldn't subject themselves to pre-medical physicals. Pre-medical vaccines, I agree with - we get them for free, why not get 'em done while we can? But theoretically no one should have to do pre-medical blood tests for the sake of "finding out surprises" if they're maintaining their health.

Everyone is definitely allowed to their opinion though. Us Canucks are allowed to disagree every once in awhile. And yes, I do go for my annual each year. I'm sure that's more info than all of you wanted to know laughing.gif

</derail>

MandE I hope things work out for the best. All our best thoughts are with you.

When it comes time to file for your AOS, all you need to do is include the vaccination worksheet in place of the I-693a form that they request. It will save you time and trouble.

Mind, there have been reports that some cases are getting RFE's for including only the vaccination worksheet instead of the I-693A form - I think Krikit is referring to the other numerous cases where submitting the worksheet has resulted in an approved AOS. Personally I didn't want to risk the RFE (and getting thrown to the back of the line!) so I searched high and low for a civil surgeon. He submitted both a copy of the DS-3025 and the I-693A in the envelope. Now that's #######-retentive. wink.gif

what do i need to send with my EAD thats going with my AOS?
I was told 2 passport pictures and thats it..

anything else I need to include?

P.S

Im also dreading having to go through Baltimore.. Im praying for some reason they send it to Delaware.

You're good with 2 passport photos only. Usually they also want a copy of your I-94, but if you're filing under c9 (the usual AOS category) they don't want it.

What's wrong with Baltimore? Nice city from what I've seen, but I don't live there. wink.gif

Are you flying through Lester Pearson (or whatever the name of the Toronto airport is called...)? If so, you'll clear customs and immigration there. Be sure to leave at least a couple of hours so that they can get your paperwork processed.

Canadatime it's taking at the NVC
Traditionally most K1s going to the Canadian consulates don't get held up in any extra processing at NVC. I'd guess that they're getting a large number of petitions going through their hub right now though, so it might take longer than normal. From what people are currently seeing, the NVC is taking about a month to whip through petitions before sending them off to the consulates.

CanadaI-693A
Okay, so I went to the doctor's office today with Bee in nearby Norristown. All in all I got my I-693A, but it was a huge effin' hassle. Almost everyone there acted like I was being a great pain in the derriere because I told them the specifics of my situation. One of the other doctors that was there was being condescending behind my back and said, "Well, I can't see any sign of it in our manual." I wanted to shove my I-485 instructions in her face and tell her to find a pole to sit on and twirl.

I got to speak to the good ol' doc, who was a really friendly guy and was probably the only person in there who didn't treat me like an idiot. There was another female doctor/nurse there with us and we chatted about how I didn't need another medical because I'd already had one in order to get my K1. Luckily she sounded really knowledgeable about the whole situation so I'm glad I didn't sound like I was nucking futz to the whole office. After hearing about my chest x-ray the doc wanted to do a skin test for TB, and nicely explained the reasoning behind it. He suggested that I do it and come back on Monday to check the results, but said that I could always come back and do the test if USCIS requested it.

Anyway, I paid $40 at the front, and the mean receptionist was like, "Okay, have a great day." Um, where's my form? She was like "omg!!" and had to grab the female nurse, who looked confused. I had to explain to them that I needed a copy of the form for USCIS - after all, that's why I was there in the first place - and so she got me my sealed envelope ready, along with my copy for records.

I'm crossing my fingers that I don't have to go back, because if I have to see that stupid receptionist again, I might punch her in her huge schnozz.

CanadaI-693A
What a long day sleep.gif

One civil surgeon in Media wanted $250 for that damn sheet. Hell, no. Another place wanted to schedule me in for next month - and when they heard I just needed the form, the same damn argument of "oh well you need a medical". I told them to read their instructions dry.gif

I finally found a doctor in nearby Norristown this Friday. I asked them about cost, and I think they quoted me for the actual vaccinations - so hopefully it'll be extremely cheap. If not, I'll suck up my pansy fear and send in a copy of the worksheet whistling.gif
