My case was completed on May 6th. On 5/29/08, NVC forwarded my case to ISL and scheduled my wife's interview for second week of July. I just hope she doesn't have to go through AP now.

Congratulations and all the best to you both. Please please please do keep us posted and update your timeline.

I hope everything goes well!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDid everyone send their Urdu marriage certificate along with the English translation for I-130?
QUOTE (choochoo @ Jul 26 2008, 12:23 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi all,

My cousin that filed for his wife back in Feb at VSC received an RFE because they want the Urdu marriage certificate. I think the instructions online said they just want the english translation, isnt it? I just kind of wanted to know what other people did because even I didnt send the Urdu marriage certificate in for my case. I just was wondering if this is common or not.

Thanks all

Yes to USCIS a copy of the original marriage certificate that was in URDU and the translation.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionInterview experience at ISL and frustration for visa
QUOTE (pakmani @ Jul 28 2008, 08:40 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I spoke with DOS today regarding my wife's CR1 visa. She had her interview on 7/10 and was told her passport would be returned in about a week or so but still hasn't been returned. She wasn't given a blue or pink slip and no mention of AP.

DOS today said that a Counselor Officer has to review her case and since this is a very very busy summer season for them they will get to it when they get it to it and processing time for visa is 6 months. Where are they getting 6 months from? I am not sure how much longer I should wait, I just want to go to PAK and wait there with her but if its gonna be 6 months, I can't stay there for that long.

Please comment.

Thanks!

I feel like banging my head on the wall right next to me...This is SO FRUSTRATING!!!!!! wacko.gif And the US Embassy can not afford to increase their workforce? mad.gif

Bro, if your wife is living safely at her parents place...please wait a little longer before deciding to move there right away...I know its easier said than done but give it some more time. InshaAllaah inshaAllaah InshaAllaah she will get her passport with visa really soon. And this 6 months thing is just ####### of all the other ####### they throw at us. InshaAllaah sub theek hojaye ga. Allaah pouchay ga in ko tou! headbonk.gif

Thanks a lot for the answer Aisha. This has been driving me crazy. I hope to either get my hands on a new one or convince my husband that the one which we already have is good enough. I really hope to read a review of the interview soon good.gif

May Allaah make it happen smoothly and their printer is fixed and qasim bhai does not go on AP and is issued visa right away and be with you within a week or so...aaameeeeeen.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionInterview experience at ISL and frustration for visa
Thanks Pakmani for the post. Yes from the given token it seems she is not on AP and inshaAllaah will ge the visa soon but like Aisha said, its stupid how they could be unable to print visas... Surprises me.

But inshaAllaah everything will be fine. Look at it this way...mani your wife has been through the interview stage and should insahAllaah be with you in a few weeks. Don't worry. I am really glad she wasn't given that dreadful light blue slip.

If I may ask, did you submit original police certificate at NVC and your wife took along a new original one to the interview? My husband's been pushing me to get another police certificate even though the one I got made is valid till November and alhumdulillaah we have reached the NVC stage but he insists that I should take another original police certificate to the interview. What do you guys say?

PLease comment

Thanks for everyones help. So in the end I am going to need:
* 4 passport size photos
* copy of my NIC
* copy of my passport
* copy of an educational certificate
* copy of my marriage certificate
* copy of a utility bill
* copy of father's NIC (National Identity Card)
* copy of the NIC of two neighbors
* letter addressing the D.I.G issue to certificate for immigration purposes
* a printout from NVC's website showing the requirement of this certificate
* Rs. 2500

If you have a letter from NVC or embassy, that should be included instead of the printout from NVC's website. I had only used it as I did not have the letter. Also, I am from Karachi so the police system falls under the city capital police. Yours could be different. Keep these documents ready. Requirements vary from city to city.

Has anyone here had personal of experience of obtaining a police certificate from Pakistan? I wanted to know the time it took to get and what was required from you (fingerprints, passport copy, photo, etc). I checked here http://travel.state....ocity_3644.html and they said it can take up to 3 months, but I wanted some personal experiences. helpsmilie.gif

I am trying to find out so I can try to estimate when we should apply for a police certificate so the whole process is not delayed further. Thanks in advance for any help.

It took about 2 weeks to get mine done but I got it made through a sub-inspector who is a family friends but it wasn't easy as I had to call him constantly. Along with the Police certificate form I submitted 4 passport size photos, copy of my NIC, copy of my passport, copy of an educational certificate, copy of my marriage certificate, copy of a utility bill, copy of my father's NIC and copy of the NIC of two of my neighbours. All the documents including the photos were attested. I also included a letter addressing the D.I.G. to issue to certificate for immigration purposes and included a printout from NVC's website showing the requirement of this certificate. In the end I had to pay the sub-inspector Rs. 2500. Still hate it.

hope this helps.

Thanks for the info that helps alot. Would it have taken longer if the sub inspector was not a family friend? Sorry im not to familiar with the acronymns what is NIC and D.I.G.?

Just pay 2500 rupees and u will get ur Certificate the 2nd day.

Like liberal said, the bribe works. I so wanted to avoid the bribe part so I had approached this sub-inspector but he too turned out to be a huge jerk. NIC stands for National Identity Card and D.I.G. stands for....Deputy Inspector General of Police. Apparently in my city..it all goes through the D.I.G. and his office is the issuing authority sadly.

A question for everyone who has gone through AP and cleared it:

What time does the embassy usually call to ask for the passport?

Also is there any time limit to security checks? How soon do they expire?

Thank you very much in advance. Please answer these questions if you have any knowledge.

Regards,
Sara.

The embassy will send your husband a letter or call him to come back to them on certain days of the week between certain times. In most cases they need a letter to regain entrance into the embassy. This step usually happens when they are getting ready to issue the visa. They will keep the passport and then send it back usually within a few weeks via a courier. They do not give it back same day. Good luck!

CONDOR-3 MONTHS
MANTIS-3 MONTHS
NCIC data bases depends on the checks and agencies.

Most checks are valid up to 3 months before they expire. Now these are just the 3 that are mandatory but does not include any others that the CO decided to ask for and have run for the security clearance. Three are tons of checks and no one ever knows which other ones are asked for before the visa is issued.

Thank you very much Mary for the post. I was only curious about the time the embassy calls people during the day. Now they rarely ask for a second interview unless a verdict wasn't given at the time of the original interview. For some case they do ask the applicant to appear at the embassy again along with his/her passport. At the time of my interview, the CO told me that my visa has been approved but that he needed to run these routine checks.
Thank you again for the post.
God bless you.

I want to know when does one Pay American Express for the passport delivery for an Immigrant Visa?

Does one Pay before the interview like how the medical is done or is the payment made at the Embassy on the day of the interview after the Visa is Approved?

Can anyone with prior experience write about this. Note: Information needed about the Immigrant Visa.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresk3 married fiance visa
hasan2,

I am in similar situation except that is has not yet been 5 months since I sent in my petitions to USCIS.

The procedure we were advised was to file an I-130 first followed by an I-129F.

I-129F form has been in use for fiance/fiancee visas generally referred to as K-1 but since they have not come up with a different form, I-129F is also being used for a Spouse visa (Spouse = already married and no longer a fiance/fiancee). This track goes to K-3, a non-immigrant visa.

You can find your case status at USCIS website and if you click the service centre button, currently it shows that they process both I-130 and I-129F in about 5 months (it may take longer than that but 5 months is their national goal).

Now let's come to the point of NVC not issuing K-3 visas which was shown in this link: http://www.visajourn...eived-together/

You can also find that information on USCIS website. It only means that IF you have filed both I-130 (For CR1) and I-129F (For K-3), IF USCIS processes and approves your I-130 petition first and forwards it to NVC, then your I-129F petition will be administratively closed since it will not be needed any longer.

However, if USCIS processes and sends an approved I-129F to NVC earlier than your I-130, You will still be able to follow K-3 visa path. In this case, NVC will send the required documents to the local U.S. embassy in your country (Pakistan) and your spouse (beneficiary) shall receive a notification with instructions to appear for an interview.

You or your spouse whoever is the petitioner, may contact USCIS and inquire about your petitions if it has already been 5 months since you received your NOA1 (I-797C). Also in the mean time, the beneficiary should arrange the required documents which may be asked by U.S. Embassy to bring at time of interview. These documents include Police Certificates, Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate and etc.
Take a note that the Police Certificate also known as Character Certificate issued in Pakistan is only valid for about 30 days so make sure to apply only once you receive NOA2 or a notification from the embassy else your Police Certificate may expire and you will have to apply for it once again.

I hope this helps you to understand the situation. All the best.
Note: I am not a lawyer or attorney. All the above information is just my own reading and research through different websites and forums.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWhat is the possibility?

Don't listen to anything you hear from the misinformation line. Your I-130 and I-129F have already been joined and will be processed together. Unless your I-130 gets an RFE, they will both complete adjudication on the same day, get forwarded to NVC together, where the I-129F will be administratively closed. If, by chance they RFE your I-130 and the I-129F gets approved alone, it could possibly slip through. This is NOT something to hope for.

Maybe study your definition of "extinct" a bit more carefully. You have about the same chance of seeing a K3 visa as a live dinosaur.

Posted Image That is why I used the word extinct, kind sir. Dinosaurs are extinct and are only seen in documentaries and movies just like K-3 visas only to be seen (functional) on USCIS or DOS websites.
Posted Image I am only hoping that they somehow process the case soon because all this wait is not fun at all. Thank you for your advice.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWhat is the possibility?

If your wife spoke to one of the contract employees who first take people's calls, she should be aware that we don't call it "the Misinformation Line" for nothing. She would need to speak with an immigration officer (Tier 2) for correct information.

As far as "K-3 or CR-1 does not matter," the CR-1 is the superior visa. The chances of procuring a K-3 are minuscule at best, to be honest.

Any authentic way to reach the Tier 2 Immigration Officer to get correct information? Since whenever she calls, she only gets to speak to those CSR or Contract Employees as you call them.
Question here is not whether they will grant a CR-1 or K-3. Question is about the possibility of them pulling and processing the I-130 petition and processing it with I-129F (If they reach I-129F petition first).
MusashiiMalePakistan2012-03-17 01:41:00
K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWhat is the possibility?
From various posts on this forum I understand that K-3 has become extinct and when both petitions (I-130 & I-129F) reach NVC at same time, K-3 is administratively closed and path to CR-1 begins (This point is clear to me).

My wife called USCIS and was told they are currently processing I-130s from Sep 2011 and I-129Fs from Dec 2011. So they are backlogged for I-130. However, they said if they reach our I-129F petition earlier than our I-130 they will pull the I-130 for it too. Can we rely on this information provided by Customer Service Representative from USCIS?

Would it mean them being on time for I-129 could help with I-130 and start the process for CR-1 faster? Or would they just keep the I-129F pending even if they reach it first till they finish all other I-130 in queue first?
I am really hoping that they are ahead on I-129 and if it is as they said then it would push my I-130 forward. K-3 or CR-1 does not matter. Your opinion will be really appreciated.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMoving to a different country while in K-3 Process
I do understand that CR-1 has more benefits and is cheaper compared to K-3 but at the same time I wonder if it is really faster?
I cannot define what "faster" means for other people out there because for me judging by the speed they are processing the CR-1 petitions, I might hear something from USCIS in July - August 2012 and by the time they send petition to NVC, interview and all is done, I might only be able to see my wife again November 2012?
That will be 11 months after our wedding, almost a year. I cannot say it is fast. Yes, some of you may say that my wife and I can visit each other while waiting but well, not everyone is rich enough to afford such frequent visits across the continent :(

If my K-3 petition is approved first, I will not mind it being expensive for the price is nothing compared to the separation between my wife and myself.
If they want to hold back K-3 and wait till they can approve I-130 then no choice ...

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMoving to a different country while in K-3 Process

I'm really hoping you'll rethink the K-3 and stick with the Cr-1 path

Anyway, the only obstacles I believe you might face are a police certificate and AP - if you do move to UAE make sure you are able to get a police for Pakistan easily.

Good luck

I was told that basic purpose of K-3 was to reduce the separation time between a couple. Other than it being more expensive than CR1 (I suppose), why would you think that CR1 path is better? Is there something wrong with K-3?

Thank you for your advice on previous question.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMoving to a different country while in K-3 Process
My wife is a U.S citizen and we have filed petition for K-3 visa.
So far have only received NOA1 back in January 2012.

I live in Pakistan and have been offered a job in UAE. My question is that if I accept that job offer and move to UAE (initially on a 2 years work visa), how may it affect my K-3 visa process? While filing out the forms for petition, I put Islamabad Embassy in choice. If I go to UAE, will I have to return to Pakistan for interview? Will it cause any problems during the "Initial Review" and background check? I don't know anything in this regard except that "change of address" option but moving from country of my residence to another country even for work could make a huge difference.

Any advice in this matter will be really appreciated.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresI'm starting my journey

hello hope to be fine........

I m new in visajourney.com, and my journey will start maybe after 3 months,,
my wife lives in USA california,,and i live in Pakistan. we will get marry after 2 months..
so i need to know what is required for my case before marriage, and how to apply,, what is necessary to strengthen my case. plz your answer will be apprreciated thanks (F)

If you are planning to get married in Pakistan, then the path you should choose is CR-1, not K-3 as K-3s are no longer functional (practically).
After marriage, your wife will have to file an I-130 petition for you. Then comes a long wait till USCIS processes that petition. There are some really useful guides on Visa Journey and you should take a good look at those.
Just make sure to have your "Walima" as someone was asked about it at time of interview and experienced problems. Also make sure to have lot of photographs taken at time of wedding, walima and other occasions.
All the best.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussiontracking case number
Hi,

My husband's and i are trying to get his IR1 visa, he has his interview on 2nd jan, in pakistan...anyway, i talked to the NVC, when they were finished processing our AOF and visa application docs, and they mailed it to pakistan, well the NVC told me that it takes two to four weeks for it to be mailed to pakistan ( or anywhere)...in our case it took two weeks, but you said yours was like over two weeks, so don't worry so far, because that is normal for them to take two to four weeks, also , there is no real way to track it, like you could with the USCIS, like everyone else said, you have to call them...

I called the Pakistan embassy, it was very easy to get my answers from them, they had all of my hsubands info in their computers and just answered any questions i had, all i did was buy a five dollar phone card online and gave them a call, but make sure you let them know that you are the american citizen calling from america ( because after i told them that they finally put me on the phone with a representative) sometimes you have to be pushy but it shouldn't be too hard for you to find out exactly what you need to know from the embassy there.

Also, emailing never worked so well for us, they seem to just give a set answer for every question, it was real annoying, we would ask complicated questions and they would give short answers that didn't even answer our questions half the time.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionColombia Medical Exams
hi, i read your posting about the medical, and this is what i found about it

*Some embassies require the medical the same day as the interview. Most require the interview to be done ahead of time and have the results sent to the embassy directly from the doctor.
*This may occur after an interview date is given.

So, the best thing you should do is figure out exactly what the embassy you are going to interview at prefers, if they prefer it on the same day, or a week before...i know my husband , when he was going for his K3 they wanted the medical done before, and then the results were to be mailed to the embassy...anyway, i would suggest you to just contact your embassy, it's better to be safe than sorry. :)

Leona, I'm sorry to hear of your situation! I guess the best thing we can do it just support everyone going through these situations that can be as annoying as heck and difficult to understand at times. By the way, the picture of your baby is adorable!!! :star:

I know there are situations that are much worse than mine and my fiance's, and I can't imagine how some people handle it. If I found out my fiance would never get his visa or the wait could take years longer than the average case, I think I would lose all hope. You people out there who are handling these bad situations with optimism and dignity, I salute you :) I think Oprah should have a special on the trials and tribulations of marrying someone from another country/religion/background. Heck, there could be a whole TV series dealing with the surreal circumstances some people have to go through just to be with the one they love.

I can agree to that!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDifference between Administrative Review and Administrative Process

They are not the same. AR is security checks. My fiance and I were on AP for nearly eight months and we NEVER had any security checks in all that time. (im sure we had them at one point but not during AP). Another reason we know there is a difference is because twice we were corrected by the embassy and DOS when we referred to it as AR. They were quick to remind us that our case was in ADMINISTRATIVE PROCESSING AND NOT ADMINISTRATIVE REVIEW. We called the DOS several times in those months and was always told the same "No security checks have been ordered, whatever is being done is within the embassy itself".

Basically what Processing consist of is they investigate the validity of the information they receive. They interviewed his family and friends and made one call to my home. (amazing it took eight months to do that ).

So there is a difference, but they both equal the same thing, delays and misery!!

Best of luck to all

vicki/bala

i c, thanks for clearning that up

The process is that your case is under review! Thats my two cents on this!

i agree, i think it's the same thing too, sometimes i read that one is more extensive than the other, but i just think the words are used but mean the same thing. AR

this is a good explanation of name checks and AR

Hope everything works out

Why would you say something like that?

Because I find it seriously impossible to believe that the OP is not aware of the many options for mailing documents internationally.

Like D, I'm all for helping to provide valuable information. But I am not here to spoon feed basic information on how to exist in everyday life. Come on - if the OP truly cannot figure out how to mail something internationally without the help of an internet message board, he's got bigger things to worry about.

we all ask obvious questions at some point in our lives, and we can just answer it without acting like they are stupid. Just cuz it seems obvious to know the best way to send something via mail, that's fine then answer the best way, the cheapest way, or something more helpful if you can see that the person hasn't had experience using express service.

Fed ex , in my opinion is super expensive, ups is usually cheaper than fed ex...just plain registered mail via USPS will take ages, and i've never done international express with the USPS but they are very good in delivering domestic over night express so i would assume their international service is just as good. never dealt with DHL, if i were u, i would just give them all a call, get their rates and then just decide among them, i like to go with the ones that guarantee a refund if it's not there on time.

K , hope everything works out for you and your fiance.

I would send her a copy of the letter you got if she cannot get in touch with the consulate.

Thanks for your advise, I sent her a copy already, but is there anything else that comes in that packet she gets, or is it the same as I got as a petitioner.
