Thankyou very much sky, that was a great answer. I appreciate it. Im happy for you that you can visit your husband...i unfortunately can not afford the plane tickets right now to go back and forth...our two year anniversary is going to have to be celebrated online...i know what you mean by " time sure flies when you're having fun" anyway, yeah my husband is gonna miss our sons first birthday too, just like he missed his first crawling, and first steps...it's sad, but the time when he would be here i think all the waiting will just be like as if it were a dream, inshAllah...or more like a night mare

Thanks again!

ok, why do i have to change my name for my husband to get his visa? that is what i was curious to know
or can i just wait to change it, i mean i already traveled on it as leona williams, but as khalid, i just have my marriage certificate with me to show that i am married now, but my passport hasn't been changed yet.

Ok, so how much does it cost to be changed, i mean can you tell me what to do, i read some stuff on the website but it's confusing,

but in the end, i don't "have" to have it changed in order for my husband to get his visa right? because i do have other forms of ID that show it is changed, like drivers license and ss card

Leona,

This is great news! :D Congrats on getting a closer date and wishing you all the best on the remainder of your journey. At the time of POE it should be an IR1 but I do know of one case that they did a CR1 and the wife contacted NVC and explained the error. The gentleman had to send in his CR1 and some copies and they reissued the card to reflect IR status.

Mary

Thanks for your congrats, and for letting me know that my husband should get IR1 at POE if he is coming after Nov1st, our anniversary, which is most likely to be the case. (inshAllah)
Anyway, i did want to ask though that does it matter that i have never changed my name on my passport? i mean, i changed my name on my driver's license, on my SS card and every where else, just not my passport, because i was always needing it with me and didn't have time to change it...doesn't it cost like 60$ to change it? ...anyway i was just curious to know if i "have " to change it or not  ...thankyou. October 6th, OMG , i can't believe it! and my birthday is only three days after, inshAllah everything will go smoothly for my husband, Aamin!

ok, whew, i need to calm down.. and ask this question now....our wedding aniversary, the civil one, is november 1st, soooooooooooooo, what effect is this gona have, will the embassy approve my husband for a CR1 now ,(inshAllah he will be approved) and then the AP is gonna take place, and i am pretty much sure that it will take longer and we would be married for 2 years before he would come to USA, sooo, my question is that at his POE will they change his visa from a CR1 to an IR1??????

hmmm...im not quite sure if you are thinking it's a bad idea or a good one...none the less i have decided that i do want to be a biological scientist...either a zoologist, a microbiologist , or a Physiologist, there is a good chance i will go for zoology, and this summer im planning to get a more or less intern position at the st. louis zoo, :) inshAllah, i have looked at it's occupational outlook , and it is expected to grow on average, it said that in 2004 77,000 jobs were held by biological scientists, and that it is competitive...but, i don't mind, it's very interesting to me

this time they got real classic and said
" we are having a mad rush and processing all the student clearances first " #######. let them studdy on line
I want my husband home :(

That's really sad...i guess though it's better than thinking they just aren't doing anything, it's better to think they are just too busy, but still, it sucks...you have been waiting a year! i can't believe it, that's too long...i admire your patience. that's funny that you said to let them study online...lol, seriously they should put family visas before student visas...or atleast don't let them butt in line ahead of you.

Thanks RK.

Asalam Aleikum

o yes, of course i would never have any kind of relation before marriage, the day i married my husband was the day i met him in person, .i was just thinking of every lil thing that would be a benefit for us to be together again soon ,inshAllah! , but in reality, i know it is all in the hands of Allah, not of the embassy, ultimately it is He who will decide,so i wait, and pray , and we just try our best.....but of course , i find comfort and hope in hearing about every one else's experience through the Islamabad embassy.

also, i am a muslim convert, not a pakistani, and it was the first best decision of my life, the second best decision was marrying my husband :) ... and Allah knows best
i would like to go to his interview, but am thinking if it doesn't help, then i won't since i am in usa now , and i don't really have the money for a plane ticket for me and my baby ali...i'll keep you all posted on how his interview goes. O yeah, and i always wore hijab in my photo id's, there was never any problem with that..., also i think i read before that the religious head coverings are exceptions to the photo rule but can't remember positively, anyway it's to be expected since it's an Islamic country.

Hi,

Im kind of new to this site, and found this Islamabad embassy topic thread thingy, ( i duno what is the proper name of a branch of topics on this site, im so obviously new  )

anyway, i'm the USC and my husband is pakistani, and his interview for CR1 is on Jan 2...but by that time we are gonna be married for two years, so will he then get an IR1 visa?

also, is it better for the USC to attend the interview with the spouse, or does it not really make any difference...also, would the fact that we have a child together make any difference, or not...
sorry if my questions are lame, im just thinking of every single possible thing that might affect my husband getting his visa...since it has been 6 months since i've seen him :(

Congratulations to all of you.....I just wanted to request if you guys can share your experience and tell us who got their pink slip in the first shot so we can see the trend of ISL Embassy. Since, it seems like alot of people are getting put on AP temporarily.
This will give a better understanding for people who are awaiting their interviews and could know what to expect some how. In addition, may be one of us can start a chart of people who got pink slip and who got put on AP and trace how long is it taking for AP to be approved.
I hope to hear from you all!!!!

There is no way to estimate the AP timing. For famales it doesn't take very long but still no way to say it would be 6 weeks or longer. It could be less than 6 weeks also. You can't find out why it happenned but DOS can tell you the status because I think there are multiple security checks one has to go through.

You may want to call DOS to check exactly what kind of processing she is being put through. If her interview was just today, give it couple of days before you call DOS. Dept of State (DOS) 202-663-1225.

Thanks, I'll call them on Monday and see if they have any info for me. I'll keep you guys updated.

Fahad,
Why did they put your wife's case on AP. did they give any reason of any documents not complete. What questions did they ask. Did they tell her why do they need further administrative processing. I know its tough for you that you guys were expecting the visa but the good thing is that its just the matter for few more weeks. As pakmani mentioned do call the dos so they can give you further information.

But the gave her a letter saying that it was temporarily denied?

Your wife will be with you soon. Its just the wait for AP which wont take long in her case hopefully.
Secondly, I wanted to ask you if your I-130 was approved or was it I-129 that got approved. R u a citizen or green card. Thats can probably explain more who are put on AP.

I've got some good news!! We have FINALLY been cleared out of AP after 4 months!!! We mailed her passport to the Embassy yesterday, July 29! :-)

Am very very excited!!! They however told us it will take from 2 to 4wks to receive the visa.

I am now going to schedule her flight for September on PIA direct.

Does anyone know the best way to schedule the flight on PIA from Lahore to JFK? Also, is it cheaper to book the flight here in the US or in Pakistan?

Thanks in advance for your help! Goodluck to everyone on AP and for those of you waiting for interviews!!!

gohar

Hey Bro,

Congrates on getting the visa, you must be hell happy about it huh? Well I would suggest for JFK to try Emirates they are running direct flights to LA, SF and Houston and may be to JFK. Remember when you get tickets of the airline which belongs to the homeland you are traveling from are expensive like PIA it will cost you more, secondly you cannot book tickets for purchase from US for your wife to fly from the Pakistan.

Thanks
Saqib

I was thinking about her coming on Emirate or Etihad, but the problem with that is that she would have to switch planes. She is really really nervous about coming here and having to switch planes and that she might get it wrong. So that is why I want to have her take PIA here.

Are you sure you can't purchase a ticket here in the US for a person in Pakistan? I think that is possible becuase they are all E-Tickets. I could then have my Fiancee go to the PIA ticket office in pakistan and pick up her ticket. I dont see a problem with that.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

You can purchase it from a PIA agent, but also you can send her the money via western union and she can purchase a ticket from a local agen in Pakistan. Your best bet is to have her come by PIA since its the first time, its a direct flight and also every one speaks urdu and it will be easy for her to communicate and people will be able to help her if needed. Good Luck and congratulations

MnM,

I would start calling the NVC office a week after your NOA2 date. Once they have the case they will assign a case number, which you can use to see if they have forwarded the case to the embassy yet. I talked to a guy at NVC and he said that the cases don't stay there very long.

Ali786,

Congrats on the medical. Was the doctor your wife went to on the list the embassy sent in packet 3? Seems like she had a good experience there. I would probably suggest the same doctor to my fiancee.

Yes it was the doctor from the list that was on the website given on the interview letter. there is only one center for islamabad.

The petitioner will get a copy of the letter soon in a week or so. You can on that web site see which doctor is in islamabad and call to schedule your appointment. you only need the letter on the date of your doctors appointment. and the petitioner can send you a photocopy or scanned copy. they only schedule medical interviews two - three weeks prior to your embassy interview

Hi' Gohar
I wanted to ask you if you sponsored your wife or fiancee. Plus when they did the AP was it for you as a petitioner or the beneficiary. I assume its the petitioner if they send the case to washington.
Is there a pattern who goes on AP like mostly men or both men and women and for petitioner who are citizens or green card holders sponsoring their spouse.

Hey Ali,

I think you are getting the Marriage/Fiancee Visa confused with Family Visa's.

The AP is always for the person in Pakistan (beneficiary). The Applicant is approved before the case ever makes it to the Isl. Embassy from my understandings. In my case at least, the AP was for my Fiancee in pakistan and not me.

I had to complete for I-134 (Affidavit of Support). I make enough money so i was able to "Sponsor" my fiancee.

Hello All!

I just wanted to share the news with you so if anyone is still going for medical. My wife had her medical yesterday which went very well. She was there at 9am and was given forms to fill which she handed back to them by 9:15am. She had a blood test, physical done by a lady doctor in which they asked basica questions like if you have any problem such as heart disease, etc.
She was out of there in two hours by 11:15. They were easy with the questions and very polite. good luck to all who are scheduled for the medical.

I'm going through the I-129f way. I was wondering about which form my fiancee needs to fill out. There's the DS-230 and then the DS-156 and DS-156K. From what I'm understanding, she does not need to fill out the DS-230, but does need two DS-156 forms and one DS-156K. Is that correct?

Monty!

You are absolutely correct. you will need 156 and 156k both.

re: the address where to go for the interview in Islamabad.

HI' All,

I was looking at the letter and the address they provide on the letter is:
Embassy Of The United States of America
Diplomatic Enclave, Ramna 5
Islamabad, Pakistan

Is this the address where the beneficiary needs to arive. Or some where else?

Hi Thank you very much ayesha for this information. Please let us know how much did they charge for the medical?
Did they perform other serological tests?
What if some one already has the vaccination of hepatitis b, chicken pox? would they charge ?
Thank zorro khan

Hi zorro,

I know that my husband took around 10,000Rps with him, but ended up paying a bit over 8,000rps. I am not sure about that test,
( serological tests? ) he just said that they checked him from head to toe and everything was fine. His eyesight was 100%, he does smoke alot ( which I don't care for), they did xrays, asked if he ever had mental problems, ( like i said that kept asking the same questions over and over again) maybe seeing if he would slip up or something, i don't know??? Looked in his mouth, his lower area, his chest, his feet, toes, just everywhere.

Also, there were a few shots that the doc said "was not required" so he got back like 500 rps.

I hope this helps a lil more and I will try and remember to ask him about that one test..okay?! Also his medical was done in Islamabad smile.gif

Aisha

Hey guys wish you all good luck. Aisha, congratulations on your husbands medical.
I wanted to request the people to share their experience who's wife or female fiance went for a medical. since as Aisha mentioned it seems to be a rough experience.

I was wondering........who had interviews for this month? It is hard to keep up with everybody, so just curious about the ones from ISL embassy. Did everything go okay and would like for someone to post with their experiences if you wouldn't care to do that. Especially with what questions were asked and what your SO took with them for the interview. It would really help us that are in waiting.......smile.gif

Thanks so much and I hope everything went well for the ones that had interviews and you will have visa's in hand soon....insha allaah!!!

Best Wishes to all of us with upcoming interviews

Aisha

I hope everything is going well for all of you guys. Where is everyone who had their medicals and interviews. it would be very nice if you guys can share your experience. It will help others to be prepared. good luck all

Salaam....hello everybody

My husband's medical is this Thursday 07/17/08 and I was worried that he wasn't going to get his interview letter in time.
Alhumdulilah.........it was delivered yesterday MashAllaah!!!!!!!!!

I just sent him all of our stuff from start to finish from uscis to nvc, so around 10 days from yesterday 07/11/08, he should get all of that....insha allaah.

I told him to just get everything in order the way he would like it done...((he is very particular about stuff)) and just have it ready for the inteview on July 31st!!!!!!!!!

Anywho.........NVC sent out the interview letter on June 11th and he just got his yesterday. So it took around a month for him to get his... (this is just for general FYI for anyone wondering.))

Have great weekend
Aisha

Thanks Aisha, your information helps alot cause i was wondering how come my wife didnt get her letter as of yet. I also called nvc and they said that i can send her mine and it is the same thing. I have already sent a scanned copy to my wife.
Let me ask you something. Is your husband going to ask the US Embassy to allow him to pick up the passport himself

thanks Aisha, well we can only know when the time comes. thanks anyways, I was wondering other people who had their interview if they asked. im hopping someone can advise
Ali,

I asked my husband and he said that it is NOT ALLOWED to pick up at US embassy. It has to be collected from AMERICAN EXPRESS and thats it. That is what he told me yes.gif
