ChinaFilipino Citizen applying for K-1 Fiance(e) Visa in Beijing, China

Hi, Thank you so much for your reply and clarification/correction.

Yes, you are right. My US citizen fiancee is the one who is applying for the K-1 visa and I am the beneficiary. I am currently  residing in Beijing. Do you have any idea on what am I going  to do as soon as the petition is approved?

Thank you

Thank you so much. That is very helpful :)

ChinaQuestion about case number

IMO=in my opinion

case files are loaded and available around 5-6 weeks after approval.. there is a little slowdown at nvc these days .. they will quote you give us 8 weeks to log it in

Thanks Darnell! Yes, they said 8 weeks but hopefully they will log it in earlier than that! :)

ChinaQuestion about case number

Darnell, thank you for your answer.

First, what is IMO?

Second, 11 calendar days? Our case has been approved more 3 weeks ago. And until now we still haven't heard anything from NVC.

IMO, about 11 calendar days after the casefile hits the shipping dock at NVC.

Currently.

ChinaQuestion about case number

How long does it take before we will able to know our case number?. It's been more than 3 weeks since we got approved by USCIS but until now our case hasn't reached to NVC yet. My fiance calls NVC once a week but they keep saying our case is not yet there yet.

Thank you for your answers. :)

ChinaGuangzhou Case Number

Thanks but 1 to 3 months??? Wow! That's another long wait!!!

Why IV? I think K-1 is non-immigrant right?

na, i say, not register now.

but do read a bit, there.

also, is best to register about a month from today.

the casefile has to actually get to the IV Unit, and that takes 1 to 3 months.

ChinaGuangzhou Case Number

Hi, Thank you. This is very informative. I just got our case number. Do I need to register now at ustraveldocs.com? I believe our case number hasn't reached to the consulate of US in Guangzhou yet at this moment but do I have to register now?

Thank you.

The NVC is just a brief stop-over and you don't need to do anything.  They will assign a case number and forward the file to Guangzhou.

I'm assuming you've checked directly with the NVC as to the status?

Then, Guangzhou will issue the P3.  As soon as you have your case number (GUZXX....) register with ustraveldocs.com.  Start preparing your paperwork for the interview.  You can find the list on the ustraveldocs website at http://www.ustraveld...new address.pdf

Also, pay your visa fee soon after registering.

After you respond to P3, they will issue the P4 at which time you can set an interview appointment.

ChinaGuangzhou Case Number

Darnell. I am little confuse. I have been reading threads about NVC and it seems like people are mentioning things that making me more confused! I thought NVC will just give the case number  after the case is assigned right? We don't need to submit some forms or payments to NVC ? Right after the case number is P3 and P4 right?

Thank you for your clarifying this matter.

you could study the portal timeline for K-1, at

ChinaQuestion about police certificate

Please read the difference between the two. Thank you.

(2) current residence where the applicant had resided for at
least six months since attaining the age of sixteen, (3) from all countries where the applicant has resided for at least
one year,

No i don't have the same case feinbergabia, but i do know what it says in the text that i just showed you, it says all other countries you've lived in for 6 months or more, since you have lived in Thailand for 6 months, if i were you, i would get that one aswell. It's better to be safe than sorry, but of course. I wanna do everything that it says, and more, LOL, just to be on the safe side. Good luck to you

ChinaQuestion about police certificate

I was in Thailand for 6 months Anjans. I've already asked if I need that police certificate in Thailand. One of the members here said, there's no need. Been in China for more than 2 years already.

Do you have the same case?

I think u need to get that certificate later than sooner, so it's closer to your interview, i'm not sure, but i think that would be the best, that's what i am doing. But one question, where did u live before that? Maybe if u lived somewhere else before that , you need to get a certificate from there aswell?! Let me show you :

"Police certificates from your present country of residence and all countries where you have lived for 6 months or more since age 16 (Police certificates are also required for accompanying children age 16 or older)"

ChinaQuestion about police certificate

Thak you Sukie. I hope it won't matter in my case either because I have no plan to get a new one.

I had a similar thing happen in Australia when registering my de facto relationship with the Department of Births, Deaths, and Marriages.  They told me that they could only go up to the date that had been positively recorded in the records - which was seven days prior to the date I actually was filing the form.  So there was a week's gap in the dates.

It didn't matter in my case - I would not think it would matter in yours.

There just wasn't any way to get a certificate that matched the actual date - because there was always a week or so time lag.

Sukie

ChinaQuestion about police certificate

I got my police certificate in Beijing, China

I have a question about the date. I went to Beijing Fangzheng Notary Public Office. It is where foreigners here can obtain their police certicate. Anyway, I went there on August 1, 2013.. But the date on my police certificate says:

"This is to certify that (My complete name) had no criminal record during her period of residence in Beijing from Sept. 3, 2012 to July 23,2013"

So, that means that I am only cleared until July 23, 2013. I am afraid the consul might look for the latest date until before my interview, maybe.

Do I need to get another one that will state the current date?

Thank you for all your answers. I really appreciate it.

ChinaBirth date Problem

Thank you.

The NVC won't tell us what was the error.

It is okay as long as it is not a big deal and I can just correct it on my visa application here in Guangzhou.

Your petition was approved and sent to NVC and then on to GUZ so it doesn't seem like there is a big concern.  What is the error?

Thank you Darnell :)

You have other forms to fill out, for the Visa Application itself, so be certain you write the dates in the format required.

That's it, that's all.

Go Get Em, and Good Luck !

ChinaP3 Question

Hi httuner,

Thank you so much.

Where can I get the the instruction letter with our case number? Is that the one from NVC?

And what do you mean by electronic processing and non- electronic processing?

It took about a good week and a half for the P3 packet to arrive to my fiancee. It requested that we get 2x Passport photos, a copy of the passport information page and DS230 part 1 to be sent back to the consulate along with the instruction letter with our case number written on it.

So you can actually prepare these documents now =]

I was reading a while ago how some people are having to do the DS260 which is an electronic online form instead of the DS230, I suppose my case wasn't selected for the electronic processing.

ChinaP4 Question

Hi JD & Coconut!

I have been reading your thread here and would like to know what is your QQ number?

I am also a K-1 visa applicant, just got approved last August 19th and now waiting for our case number.

I joined a K-1 QQ group but I can't understand what are they talking about because I can't speak and read Chinese. I am a foreigner and decided to just apply for my visa here because I want to work while I am still waiting for  my visa.I really need help from those people who have already almost through or even through with the process.

Hi Rachel,

Coco is asking what your name is in QQ?

I confirmed that they received the P3 in several ways; tracking info, contacted embassy, contacted consulate and called DoS and all of them confirmed that they received our P3.  We have been showing as AP in the system since the embassy received our package from NVC, I was assuming this was normal, yours does not show this when you check the status (https://ceac.state.g...er/Status.aspx?)?

I am going to try contacting them again, still hoping we do not have to cancel our appointment just because they have not sent us an Email.  This entire process is completely ridiculous.

ChinaP3 waiting time

Good for you httuner. Congratulations :)

Our case is finally updated on Monday hoping for a good news soon from the consulate.

~ My case was strangely fast, NVC told me they sent my case to the Consulate in Guangzhou on September the 9th and the strange thing was on September the 11th, only 2 days later the Consulate has already created our case and started processing it. After a week or so, I emailed the Consulate using their CONTACT US page and I manage to get a reply, telling me that they have sent the P3 packet to my fiancee on the 16 of September. My fiancee got the P3 in the mail on the 28th of September.

I suggest you do email the Consulate, go to this webpage http://guangzhou.use...t-question.html

It can take them a while to reply, give it a good week and only email them once, they will reply eventually =] Goodluck

Hi A&B, I know. :(

What is "CASEFILE" version?

What do you mean you got the packet from the consulate after you received your k-1 visa? Does it mean I can now schedule my interview without the packet 3 from the consul? In the Philippines, it's like that. They don't need to wait for the packet 3, as long as they got the case number, they can make their interview appointment and medical.

Yep, it can be frustrating. A sojourn through the Guangzhou consulate seeking a K-1 visa is not walk in the park?? cool.png

Hopefully, the GUZ IV will use the CASEFILE version for your case?..

BTW, in our case, we got DHL delivery confirmation of our packet to the Guangzhou consulate, a week or two after we received the K-1 visa. GUZ IV used the CASEFILE in our case?..mellow.png

Good luck on your visa journey. good.gif

Hi Darnell,

I tried what you told me about the SAFEFILE here it's just that I can't get through. I will try it again now.

ChinaP3 waiting time

Hi Darnell.

Thanks, I am aware about the police certificates  In fact I have all of those already but need to get new one again because they are all expiring. I got them last year when I went home and last summer in China. But, since this waiting is so long so they are all expiring now and I need to get new ones!

Is it really normal to wait this long for the packet 3 from the consulate? My batch of k-1 filers in the Philippines already got their visas. If I only listen to our lawyer to have  it filed  in the Philippines instead of here, I should have gotten mine also. This is so frustrating. crying.gif

i say get on a PC, and use the advanced search tool in the upper right hand corner,

search term = 'Safefile'

Member name = 'Darnell'

click on 'display as posts'.

That'll pull up everything I've ever written about SAFEFILE, and I've written a load of stuff over the last 3 years.

--

as to your PCC - you know you need at least 2, right? one from China, one from the PI.    The one yer asking about, which country issued it?

ChinaP3 waiting time

Hi Darnell,

Than you for your reply.

What do you mean by SAFEFILE?

3.5 months? I hope that won't take that long.

I also want to ask you about my police certifcate. It dated from August 2012 - August 2013. September is not covered at all. Do I need to worry about that?

Thank you so much.

That doesn't work for a K-1 visa chaser, PhillyJon - but does work for a CR-1 visa chaser.  There's no NVC Doc Intake for a K-1 visa, whatsoever.

--

The OP has to wait - it could be any where from 2 weeks to 3.5 months, depending on how GUZ IV wants to handle the case:

--pull the SAFEFILE version and rely on it solely or

--wait for the PAPER casefile to arrive from the China Customs Warehouse

ChinaP3 waiting time

Hi Philly,

Thank you for your reply.

Actually, we already called NVC and they said they've already sent the packet or case in Guangzhou. The problem is I still haven't heard from Guangzhou. It's been two weeks already since they sent it here. I read that it will only take more than 10 days (latest) for you to receive the packet 3 from Guangzhou but I haven't received anything. :(

There are no "usual" wait times. The timing for each step is different for everyone, inconsistent. Some cases go from USCIS to the NVC in two days. Ours took five weeks. Ours took another 10 days to get Packet 3. Some get it faster.

If you are waiting for Packet 3, you are waiting to hear from the NVC. Call them for an update. If you are still within the normal time frame, they will tell you. If not, they will tell you how to file an inquiry email. You need to be a little bit patient and a little bit persistent. Too much of one or the other will only hurt you. Good luck.

Hi everyone...

I'd like to ask about the usual waiting time for packet 3. It's been two weeks since we got our case number and until now we still haven't heard anything from the US Consulate in Guangzhou. Every time I track my case number through https://ceac.state.gov/ceac/ , my status says "Ready" and it gives the date of the case creation date 01-Oct-2013 and status updated date 01-04-2013. What does it mean?

Please help..

I don't have Shenfenzheng.. What is it?

I think that's the best thing to do; to call the airline and ask if I can only show a photocopy of my passport on my way back to Beijing.

I can't stay that long in Guangzhou. I have to go back right after my interview for work. I will only take leave one day for my interview.. Need to prepare for exams for the end of this term and need to impressed my employer before leaving :)

You don't have  Shenfenzheng ?????  Call the airline ask them if you can use that.  OR you can stay in GUZ and pick your passport CITIC bank location there.

Hi Noahsmama,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

I haven't registered to ustraveldocs yet because I thought I have to wait for the packet 4 to do that?

My concern is after my interview and assuming that I am approved. How can I go back to Beijing without my passport? I will take an airplane and I am afraid that they won't let me in because I don't  have my passport.

Have you registered on ustraveldocs site yet,? If you haven't go ahead do that now. You can pick a CITIC bank location near you in Beijing. The Consulate will send the passport back through CITIC bank, ????, you just pick your passport at the location you picked on ustraveldocs website.

ChinaQuestion about passport after the interview

I have another question for all of you here, especially to those who have the already experienced the same situation.

I am a foreigner in China and applying for a k-1 visa like everybody else in Guangzhou. I work in  Beijing as a math and science teacher. I haven't made an interview appointment yet and I just sent my packet 3 response yesterday.

What's bugging  me is when I'm approved and the consul will take my passport. How will I go back to Beijing? I am  going to take a plane to Guangzhou and going back to Beijing. Do you think the airline will allow me to fly without a passport? Or do you think they will just accept a photocopy? Or maybe some proof that my passport is still in the American consulate? A receipt perhaps?.. Or maybe I'll contact the airline and inform them that I won't have a passport when I go back to Beijing?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

ChinaPacket 3 received.

Hi httuner,

Do not worry about that. Effective October, the other forms were replaced by DS-160. I guess, there's a new law of form deduction in the congress. I am not sure but my fiance mentioned that. He works with the federal government.

So, If you have completed those forms before October, I guess, there's no problem with it.

Good luck on your interview. It's fast approaching... smile.pngdancin5hr.gif

The letter with the instructions, wow so yours is requesting a confirmation of hte DS-160, that form you can fill online. Strangely on our P3 packet, we were asked for Part 1 of DS230, copy of passport information page and 2 passport size photographs.

Strangely it seems its different each time o.0

ChinaPacket 3 received.

What is DS-2001? Or OF-171? It's not mention in the packet 3.

In the packet 3, they only asked me to send 3 things:

1. Confirmation page of DS-160

2. Copy of passport (personal page)

3. (2) 2x2 photographs.

No, I haven't paid anything yet. I have to wait for the packet 4 first right before doing that?

uh oh.

if you got 'that' thing

then look for DS-2001 in your mailer, find it, and
it's that thing, you fill out and send back.

OR OF-171.

either/or

It's interesting that you 'got something' in the mail - prior, did you [[pay the visa fee and register on ustraveldocs.com]] or no ?

ChinaPacket 3 received.

Finally packet 3 is received after about a month of waiting!

WOW! That was a long stressful wait!!!! OK, now moving to the next step.

The instruction says:

"Please follow the instructions and mail the items listed below along with this letter to the consulate"

There are two letters, I guess, , The question is, which "letter" The "welcome letter" or this letter with the "instruction"?

ChinaChina requiring DS260 for K Visas!

Okay, so it's really  necessary for me to do this form?

It is an online form that you will need to submit online.

You will need to go here:
https://ceac.state.gov/IV/Login.aspx

You need your case number and invoice ID number which you have to call NVC for, contact them at 16033340700, the wait time is so long but endure it and you will get your required information from them.

Our P3 said nothing about DS260 and NVC never contacted us about it. It just so happen we found out last minute that we need it! So submit the form online if you haven't.

Hi, what does it mean? Do I still need to do DS260?

Just thought I should share this about the DS-260 for K visa. Note the last sentence by Kerry.

http://travel.state....ctober_2013.pdf

I am hoping anyone submitted DS-160 for K visa have gone thru. interviews would share a solid answer whether or not DS-260 is still required (for those who have submtted DS-160 as instructed on P3 only). Thanks.
