oh I should mention mine was a generic one though so if you take a branded one it'll cost more but it should be comparable to what you're paying in Aus

Has anyone thought about their pill? And how much they will take with them?

I brought a year's worth as that's the maximum my GP could prescribe at one time. Had no issues coming through immi/customs.. no bags checked or nothing

My supply ran out in time for my annual exam so I got it re-prescribed by my doctor here and it actually worked out to be cheaper than what I paid in Aus (my copay was $10 for a 3 month supply)

I'm getting very excited about filing our K1 ... looks like it will be happening in June sometime :) but only if I have my son's court order in my hand. Regarding that issue, I have an appointment with a Family Lawyer at a Community Legal place next Monday, so we can finally start the ball rolling on that issue.

June is going to come quickly :D Hope the appointment on Monday goes well

As for updates... umm.... we're in the process of buying our first home  We are two weeks out from close... whoo hoo!
But as far as visa related updates I am 3 months away from filing my I-751 removal of conditions thing... eeep I better start getting organized

I have a Q for CR1 filers - did the Consulate schedule your interview or did NVC? (I hope there are CR1's still lurking about). Thanks!

I filed DCF (for CR1 so I bypassed NVC) but from what I understand all "regular" CR1 interviews are scheduled the same way as DCFs- through the Consulate

Also, this http://www.uscis.gov...anges121509.pdf memo page 7 states that the HPV isn't needed any more, neither is Zoster, and yet the link provided by kaffy still lists HPV... I think it's just a stuff up but just an FYI.

What link are you referring to? I haven't posted any vaccine links in this thread recently so perhaps you are referring to an old thread that was prior to the changes?

That's good to hear that he doesn't have to come do it in person! Bubs doesnt have to be included on the K-1 if the CRBA is accepted and he is granted his US passport. The CRBA functions as a US birth certificate.

Good luck with the forms and everything :)

Does your fiance happen to be in the navy? Reason I ask is because our accountant at work has a son who's in the navy up at Everett :P

Agree with sending the email. It doesn't LOOK like he needs to be there, but there's a document that he needs to sign but they say to submit it UNSIGNED which is a little confusing.

Might be like the DS-230 Part 2 which they have you sign in person in front of the consular officer. That's my guess

On other US Embassy websites it says that both parents and child must be present at the appointment but the instructions on the Aussie site are vague. I'd shoot them an email and see what they say MelbourneACS@state.gov

ps- the good thing is that you can do the bub's CRBA, passport and SSN application all at the same time

Do the CRBA first, then apply for his passport ;) http://melbourne.usc...nship/crba.html

Correct me if I am wrong but your fiance (the father of the baby/the American citizen) will probably need to be in Australia to submit the baby's CRBA

My partner lives in Everett :)

Hi fellow Washingtonian

Seattle area is nice, you will enjoy it :)

Oh and I have another question. My baby will have a US passport, so should I get him an Australian passport also? Because he will have an American passport, does he need to be listed on the K1 petition form?

Your bub is an American citizen through birth so he won't need to be listed on your petition but I do suggest getting him an Aussie passport before you move. It is always easier getting a passport processed while you are present in the country and he'll need one of he wants to travel back to Australia (not that he can't enter on a US one but it just makes things easier)

has anyone registered their wedding with BDM yet? i'm told we have to do that b4 we can change our names on our Aust passports.

No because the QLD BDM won't allow overseas marriages to be registered by them

no way!? so how do we go about changing our names on our passports, I'm from QLD too can we register in another state? or do we have to get married at home too?

You can't get married at home again because you are already married. It's legally recognized there, it just isnt' registerable (is that a word? laughing.gif)

If you apply for the change through the Aussie Embassy here I believe you can just use your marriage certificate as proof so that you don't have to involve the BDM at all*

*Assuming you are Aussie citizen through birth. If you're a citizen through naturalization then that's a whole nother story

How much stuff do you have?

We had a generous baggage allowance so we were only left with a couple of extra boxes of stuff so we just slow boated them over through the postal system. Reliable and everything arrived within the estimated time frame (10-12 weeks I think). Plus thanks to USPS's excellent service everything was delivered to our doorstep (contrary to Australia post who never bother to attempt delivery and always just leave a slip in the letter box laughing.gif )

what do you mean by 5 x 23kg limit? did you take 5 suitcases and pay over the baggage allowance?

i think i will take 3 suitcases and just pay the extra.... how much do you reckon it would cost?

My husband and I were both moving back to the US so 2 suitcases were mine, 2 suitcases were his and the 5th one was an extra which they allowed us to check-in for free wink.gif (not the norm, we knew the airline counter manager)

I just rang today for mine at the brisbane one and it looks like you have to do it at clinic and can not take your own results in.

That's no biggie because if you know what vaccines you require (the document is on the CDC website) just have your GP administer them and bring the vaccination records along. My vaccines were up to date (though the panel doc did give me a MMR booster but that was covered under medicare) so I did not require a titre test

We just got our packet 3 too!
We may have a slight problem tho.........Neil's put in for his last day of work as July 2, 2010 as he's effectively retiring.
On the packet 3 email it says that you "must be interviewed and have your visa issued within the four-month validity of your petition." Our NOA2 says it's good thru Jan 23 but I think this is going to be cutting things too close. How flexible are they on this? Should I just go ahead and apply for an extension?
I leave for an extended trip to see him in 12 days (YAY!) but that means that I won't be able to start gathering the supporting documentation for the affidavid of support (I am the USC)!!

How close to Sydney do you live? We used to live in Brisbane and my trip down for the interview was done in a couple of hours. I caught the earliest flight down and was on the noon flight back. Surely Neil's employer can allow a bit of flexibility

Packet 3 received by email here too biggrin.gif

Quick question.... I know we send the DS-230 part I ASAP... do i send part II with it even though it wouldn't be filled out or signed? Also do i send anything with that, or just slip it in an envelope addressed to the consulate?
Thanks smile.gif

Hey there

I contacted the consulate about this form. Apparently Sydney doesn't need it at all for K1 visas. So you don't have to send it with part 1. I have filled it out already but am keeping it in my records just in case smile.gif

Are you sure??
Packet 3 says .... The visa applicant should complete and return form DS-230 (Part I only) as soon as possible to the U.S. Consulate General, Sydney. We only accept original forms, not faxed or scanned copies.

the CR1 packet 3 says
QUOTE
Please send the completed DS230 Parts I & II forms immediately. Do not sign DS230 Part II. You should begin to collect all items applicable to your case that is listed on the following pages. Please do not fax forms DS-230 Parts I & II. The original forms must be mailed.

^ That was my initial reaction too but I suppose if they ever decide to move back to the US again they can always DCF which is a fairly quick process.

If it were me though I would either naturalize, or hang on to my green card (and get a re-entry permit) because I like to be prepared for these things

for those of you that are Aussie citizens through naturalization you won't need to do a name change through deed poll but instead a name change for your citizenship, then you use that as proof to change your name on your passport
