QUOTE
Immigration is a two-step process:

o First, the American citizen files a petition (Form I-130) to establish the relationship and the visa category. Forms I-130 and G-325A may be downloaded from the following website addresses: http://www.uscis.gov.../form/I-130.pdf http://www.uscis.gov...form/g-325a.pdf All four pages of Form G-325A must be completed for each of the petitioner and the beneficiary.

o Second, the spouse of the American applies for a visa.

When the two steps are completed & approved, the beneficiary will be granted a CR1/IR1 category visa.

A permanent resident alien who intends to remain abroad for more than a year should, at least 30 days prior to the proposed date of departure, apply while in the United States to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in the Department of Homeland Security for Reentry Permit. The permit is valid for two years and may not be extended. If such a permit is obtained the alien may use this card to reenter the United States within the period of validity. Every alien applying for readmission must satisfy the immigration authorities that he or she is eligible in all respects for admission.

just wanna ask if what are the different kinds of vaccination i may get during medical exam

See page 15 of this pdf document: http://www.cdc.gov/n...pdf/ti_vacc.pdf

Vaccinations are age and gender specific so you should be able to determine what you need just by looking at the table above

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion: What are the documents given back to us @ the POE?
I received my original documents (birth certificate, marriage certificate) back at my interview.

At POE the only thing they handed back to me was my passport, and a reminder slip about removing conditions.

This is for CR1 visa

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresVisa in Hand!!! And the Brown envelope too!
I don't know about excess baggage because I knew someone at the airline who gave us an extra bag allowance (and an upgrade) happy.gif That gave us 300lb total allowance (we were both moving back) and then the rest of our stuff we just slow boated with Australia Post. It was the cheapest possible way and it was stuff like winter clothes which we weren't going to need for a while.. I think it took about 10 weeks or so for the boxes to arrive.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresVisa in Hand!!! And the Brown envelope too!
Congrats!

Just fill out a customs declaration form, nothing else. See: http://www.cbp.gov/x...ration_form.xml

When the cabin crew hand out forms on board just tell them you are a green card holder and they will give you the above form.

POE time varies depending on how busy the airport is. It took me about 2 hours because a flight from Vietnam had arrived before mine & there were quite a few people from that flight waiting to be processed before me. But I've heard of other people here speeding right through. At the immigration lines there is usually a airport staff member directing new arrivals to the correct lines & helping with forms. Show them your brown envelope and let them know you have a close connection and if it's busy they should be able to rush you through to the front of the line.

Hope this helps

QUOTE (produke @ May 13 2009, 08:42 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I think most asian intl flights limit you to two bags 23 kg each.

Yes and no. Flights to/from Asia and the US uses the piece concept which allows passengers up to 2 bags at a maximum weight of 23kg/50lb per bag. However the piece concept only applies for flights to/from the USA and for flights between Asia and all other destinations, there is no piece restriction but the total weight of checked luggage cannot exceed 23kg/50lb per passenger. For LCC (low cost carriers like Jetstar, Tiger Airways, etc) this allowance may be even lower.

ThaitoUSA- When I last flew JAL to the States in 2007 they had the standard 2 piece limit as everyone else. Perhaps you were given an extra piece for free because you have FF status, or were flying business/first class?

Check with your airline.

Flights to/from the US usually allow 2 x 50lb bags per passenger... however if you are transiting domestically after your POE please be aware that many internal flights have cut their checked bag allowance

The only form I had to take to my medical was this one: http://canberra.usem...nstructions.pdf

Plus 3 passport photos and my vaccination records. Everything else was supplied by the panel doctor.

Different consulates might have different requirements though so it's best to check directly with the one you are filing through.

I did not file while in Japan, because I knew I would need to file the I-864 Affidavit of support, so if I didn't have a job here in the US I could not show that I could support my wife. So I come here first, got a place to live, a good job, ect.. putting all our ducks in a row.
Then I filed the I-130

You can use a joint sponsor though. That is what my husband and I are doing. He is a USC who has been living overseas since 2004 (hence no US income). We are in Australia now and have filed for DCF through the Sydney consulate. His parents are acting as our joint sponsors

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHigh Risk Pregnancy - Trying To Expedite
I know you want to reunite with your wife as soon as possible but if she is in a high risk pregnancy isn't it better for her to stay in Australia to deliver the baby where she will have access to the necessary doctors & medical treatment?

Hopefully you have a job with medical insurance which allows you to add her (and your child) as dependents to the policy but since she is already pregnant I'm not sure if it's seen as a pre-existing condition, and if they will even cover it.

#1 usually within 4-6 weeks

#2 the visa in her passport and a stamp serve as temporary green card for up to one year so yes, she can indeed travel without the physical green card. See this thread for a pic: http://www.visajourn...howtopic=181547

#3 makes more sense to me to take care of everything at once before coming over. You'll save on airfare too

she put her in-laws address in Illinois, can she change it to her address in Colorado?

im not so sure ...but changing will make confusion and actually the time window since she make it to the states till she get the card is already narrow enough to allow such a change ..so if in ur place ..keep it till u get it on the old address BUT i believe as long as she is CR-1 (i dnt know if she is as i didnt look to the timelines) so its better to change address with USCIS for future communications ( thats a must after u get ur green card )
Good Luck

yes she is a CR1 applicant also..

Yes, you should be able to change the address at POE with the customs & immigration officer. I had printed out an AR-11 form ready to give to him but he simply gave me a piece of scrap paper to write my address on and paperclipped it to the rest of my stuff. My address got changed as they entered my stuff into the system and my welcome letters, green card & social security card all arrived at my new address

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresQuestions regarding the CR-1
If you are short on time (as I was) you can ask to have the application processed in the applicant's married name even if they are still legally known by their maiden name. When it comes time to issuing the visa it will be issued in the married name with an annotation to the maiden name (which links it to the passport). Upon entry to the US your SSN and Green card will be issued in your married name and hence bank accounts you open, insurance policies you take out, etc will also be in your married name.

Only thing left to do is change the name on your passport with the authorities back home - I'll be doing this next year when my passport is closer to it's expiration date.

My passport's in my maiden name but they processed my application for me in my married name and issued everything (visa, green card, SSN) in my married name too.

If you want to change the name on your green card you'll probably have to pay a fee which is fine if you don't mind paying but if you prefer not to, wait until removal of conditions and you should be able to change it for free there
