To answer your question on where to live when you are waiting for your fiance/wife's visa to come through.. why not live in SA with her? Applying for and obtaining a valid residency visa for a country foreign to the both of you can be a difficult and time consuming process if you cannot prove existing ties or a valid reason for wanting to stay in that country (i.e. work, family, schooling, etc)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresI-551 Stamp for CR1/IR1
There seems to be some confusion recently with many new arrivals claiming they did not receive an I-551 stamp at POE. In my experience the entry stamp endorsement you receive IS the I-551 stamp.

It should look like this:
Attached File  IMG_9533.jpg   277.99KB   639 downloads

AUG 24 2008 = my arrival date
CR1 = my visa class
AUG 23 2010 = expiration date before which I need to apply to remove conditions (IR1 holders won't need to do this)
Blanked section = alien registration number written in by CBP officer

This stamp should be on the same/adjacent page to your visa and correspond with the "UPON ENDORSEMENT SERVES AS TEMPORARY 1-551 EVIDENCING PERMANENT RESIDENCE FOR 1 YEAR" instruction printed on the visa under your photo.

I hope this makes sense and eases some confusion. (and if anyone had a different experience or received a different stamp please share it)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedureshow to change address to receive green card
Hi, sorry I have a question similar to yours and didn't want to create a new thread.

When I first submitted my forms I put my in law's address as our intended place of residence in the States but my husband and I have since found our own apartment. My interview is in 2 weeks time so do you think I can notify my change of address during it? (if so, what form do I use?) Also do you think they will accept the I-865 Sponsor's Notice of Change of Address at the interview also?

thanks!

Just wondering, what is your visa status in Taiwan? Because the info I posted above says that those on student visas are ineligible for DCF

Yeah, looks like we're posting at the same time. I've already mentioned it, but I'll say it again.

I'm a student now, but I'll be getting a work ARC soon, which means that by the time that I do the DCF, I'll have been in Taiwan for six months, but I'll have had an ARC for about three. Does that count?

I think you need to find out directly from the AIT whether they will accept this as residency. You don't want to wait until November, file and then realise that they won't accept it and you are back to square one.

I don't think DCF takes as long as 6 months..

To file an immediate relative immigrant visa petition at AIT, U.S. citizen petitioners must be able to demonstrate that they have permission to reside in Taiwan, and have been doing so continuously for at least six months before filing the petition. Individuals who are in Taiwan on a temporary status, such as tourists or students, would not be considered to meet the residency standard.

Soooooo...wait. If I'm a student for three months, then I get a job for the next three months, does that count towards the six months? That whole mention of student status not being considered is confusing.

Um.. I'm not sure. Might be a question for the AIT unless someone else here knows the answer.

If you do find out that you are eligible for DCF then it's a good idea to start preparing your documents now (tax return copies, police certificates, etc). The more organized you are the quicker the process will be.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAre they going to let me marry my Taiwanese girlfriend?
You have to be married first before filing the I-130. You could always do your paper wedding in Taiwan, then have your actual wedding ceremony after you arrive in the States- this is what my husband and I did when we applied for his Aussie spousal visa last year (paper wedding in February, lodge visa application in March then actual wedding in July)

Not sure what the processing time for DCF in Taiwan is but for Australia it's 2-3 months and other countries that I've read about on Visajourney seem to be the same.

Just wondering, what is your visa status in Taiwan? Because the info I posted above says that those on student visas are ineligible for DCF

Which means you could wait until November to file the I-130 to do DCF depending on what your visa status in Taiwan is.

....that's until I went to AIT today and learned that I am not, in fact, eligible for direct consular filing. She said that despite the fact that I've lived in Taiwan for over a year and a half over the last two years, the fact that I left and came back two months ago makes me ineligible for DCF. She said that up until recently, this would have been a problem, but, much to my elation, they've changed the policy and I can no longer use DCF.

Did they say what the residency requirement for DCF is? If it's 6 months like it is in Sydney, you could always wait until November to file?

Wow, another easy one! You guys are so lucky.. my husband only has his provisional Aussie PR at the moment (like a CR1) and we have to file for removal of conditions next year. And the PR he will be granted will only be a 5yr one. It's such a headache because while we'd both like for him to gain his Aussie citizenship, I don't know if we can find the time to do it since he needs to fulfill residency requirements there to qualify, and I'll need to do the same with my US citizenship. Don't know how I'm gonna figure that one out!

Not sure if this is worded correctly but..

Non-USC: Does your USC spouse have residency in your country?

Was it granted automatically? If not, how was the process compared to your CR1/IR1/K3 process for the US?

2. Has anyone else gotten married in a country other than the one in which they have residency?

Sort of, I am an Aussie citizen and my husband is a USC. We were both living in Japan when we met and later married there. In order for alien residents to marry there we had to each obtain Notice of No Impediment to Marriages from our respective countries (since we lived there we got them through the Consulate), as well as gather some other documents so make sure you find out exactly what you need to ensure a valid marriage in Thailand. Some countries also have residency requirements for foreigners who want to marry - I know that France is one of them

Even if you married in Thailand I think you still apply through the Consulate where you have residency - which in your case is the UAE.

From the way it looks CRs and IRs don't have to go thru all the vaccination requirements as K visas do

This is incorrect. They check them during your medical examination with the panel doctor.

http://www.cdc.gov/n...pdf/ti_vacc.pdf

QUOTE
All immigrant applicants must be assessed for vaccination requirements (Table 1). The panel
physician must review all vaccination records presented by the applicant during this process and
record the vaccination assessment results on the U.S. Department of State Vaccination
Documentation Worksheet (DS-3025). Those vaccines required based on the applicant’s age must
be administered. If the applicant had previously received a dose or doses of a required vaccine but
had not completed the series, then the next required dose should be administered according to
standard recommendations. The recommended schedule for vaccine administration is shown in
Table 2.

Ok in our situation we did not need to send in any proof of relationship between my husband (USC petitioner), our co-sponsor (father in law), and his household member (mother in law). Both my mother and father in law sent copies of the biographic page of their passport to confirm their status as US citizens.

I think they can verify your mother in law's relationship to your wife from your wife's G-325A form.
