US Embassy and Consulate Discussionyou were right
what a bunch of pansies. my poor sweetheart today had his interview and had vigirous training from me answering every question right and properly and fast. i got a call this morning at 445 am (i went to bed at 3 bc i couldnt sleep i knew something was going to happen good or bad) he called me and said baby the embassy is closed today. i shot up in bed said a few chosen words and tried to calm down both of us. i started to cry (so much for calming down) then crying turned to sobbing and boogers shooting out of my nose. we talked for a little we were told to email them he did for me and it came back the same ####### as always we are unavailable bc the embassy is closed blah blah blah i am sorry the bombings were almost 3 weeks ago ( i think) and they are still closed. talk about lazy i understand but we were beyonf ready he had everything set but now we have waisted a whole day $20 and a very tired sweetie and i went into work like a crab. it sucks working with the public trying to fix their equipment when i had a horrible call from my sweetie. and almost every customer calling in wanted to cancel bc are techs suck!!! well that is all said and done i am going to buy a phone card to call casa and get them a hello they never thought would happen.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionpapers

What "Papers" are we talking about? Police cert, Marriage Cert, Birth Cert????

yes all that including my marriage papers the one that says i can marry should i send them again?

Things like police cert, marriageability certs tend to be valid for more than 3 months, more like 1 year, and birth certs are good for life. Also I suspect that they will consider the period that the consulate was closed and extend validity of things like I-129F approval date ect.

Where did you get the 3 month figure?

well actually we assumed it was good for 3 months bc when you apply for the actualy visa stuff i think the papers have to be signed within 3 months of it being approved or so i heard

The embassy in Morocco has been closed for almost 2 months now and causing Zakaria and I to run into a bump in the road. The papers that are translated are supposed to be good for 3 months well if the embassy doesnt open by 6/21/07 we are to get new papers? even though its not our fault?

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Question
Hi Guys,

How long does it take to hear from the NVC? It's going on 3 weeks since our approval letter from USCIS. Will they email or use snail mail?

Also, the instructions I have found the Cyprus Embassy's site says they get the DS-230 Part 1 and 2 along with his Passport Bio page and Statement so why am I seeing people on here talking about sending the DS-230 to the NVC. I'm confused now.... :help:

Thanks for your help as always...

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionList of Forms
Just so I can get a head of the ballgame here...Which forms will be inside the packet that will be brought to the embassy? I can't find a definitve list on here...Also, Marcel is from Nigeria, but currently resides in Cyprus because of school...There aren't any details on that embassy, as far as, extra forms they may require or if they want to see more than one year of my w-2s etc...

Sorry for all the questions, but you guys are much more informative than any govt. site....

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 Form, question 11

It makes no sense. Why have the option to check one or the other? Obviously the purpose it to support, but in this case if you read the details it asks for you to give specific ammounts in US dollars etc. It seems if it is for a fiancee, then the duration is for life.

I thought the same thing and checked the example given for this form. In that area someone didnt check either box and typed in the following:

N/A ( K1 visa process for permanent residence )

Oh i know you didn't say anyting about contacting the embassy via email. I was simply letting you know that I have taken that avenue. US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionUS Embassy in Cyprus

if you change the country setting from 'nigeria' to 'cyprus' - then you can see a lot in the portal for cypress -
http://www.visajourn...?country=Cyprus

specifically the K-1 filers, then you can contact them instead of asking for ppl here.

Usually, a PM gets a private email notification, so if they've not fallen off the planet, they have better chance of noticing you and your request - as it goes straight to their private email account, instead.

I have contacted the embassy via email, but I keep coming up with more questions and feel like they may be getting agitated. All I want is someone who has experience with that particular embassy. I would like a heads up on anything that might be pertinent to the process there.

I hope someone can answer my question...My fiance is from Nigeria, he is finishing grad school in Cyprus. He will be interviewing in Cyprus. My question is are we to follow the instructuons for the Cyprus Embassy because that's where he will be interviewing or should we be looking at the Nigerian Embassy even though he will be in Cyprus? US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPetitioner present at Beneficiary Interview: Plus or Minus

As another poster said earlier, even if you're not allowed in (which most in Manila that I've read have been) she could show your passport to the CO and inform them that you are there, supporting her through the interview process, and THAT could score some points to prove you love her enough to go there.

You might consider calling the consulate/embassy the day before to make sure they're aware you'll be attending with her and will be allowed in.

On the site for the embassy in Cyprus it says I can't be in there with him, but I intend on going with him for support. I would think it can't hurt, and agree it shows how much you love that person to fly wherever he/she is to support them.

Yes, that is your yearly income needed not what you have in your bank account.

Thank you for answering the second part to the question. I wouldn't have known it.... :)

Oh okay, but the $18,000 is what you make in a year to qualify, right? It's not like you have to have $18,000 in your bank account at the time you file, right? Also, since I am pregnant, I was wondering when I file the I-134 will I need to claim for 2 people or 3 people since if I claim 2 people, the baby will probably be born shortly afterwards. Will that cause problems or should I claim for 3 people from the start, even before the baby is born? Thanks.

Oh, that is the 125% over the poverty line that you have to meet for a household of two people. It may not be an even $18,000.00. I was just rounding it off. It isn't over $19,000.00, though.

Hey, do you mean your current bank account balance has to be $18,000, or do you mean the yearly income? Thanks.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionCYPRUS interview experience
JUST THOUGHT I'D POST THIS AS IT MAY HELP OTHERS! THIS WAS WRITTEN PRIVATELY TO ANOTHER MEMBER, BUT THOUGHT I'D SHARE WITH THE GROUP!

Well, first of all be sure you know which embassy you need to go to for your interview. There is the main one in the south and the "sister" one in the north. We had no clue there were TWO embassies. The problem for us was Marcel needed to pass through the two borders if he wanted to go the southern embassy. The first one he got through no problem. The Greek border FORGET it. They said he needed a visa. No exceptions. The confirmaion letter from the embassy about the interview didn't work. They don't care. NO VISA NO PASSING THROUGH! So be sure once again where you are needing to interview.

Finally, the day of the interview:

It was at 2pm in Northern Cyprus US Embassy. Now we weren't told to come earlier for this one scheduled, but the first one if we were able to get through the borders we had to be there an hour before so make sure you know what time they want you there if earlier. They already had all of his documents so I am thinking that is why they didn't need us to be there earlier.

In regards to the paperwork/documents be sure any of them with bar codes that show on the computer before you print them still shows up after you ACTUALLY print them out. Our DS-156(?) I think it was actually was all black where the bar code should have been. we had to go and reprint it and fill it out all over again. OH, I think it's the one with the passport pics that get attached to it. Anyways, they handed me a checklist and asked me to remove everything from my files that was on the list in the proper order. It was good that I had it all in the accordion files, as it was easy to find each document etc...Marcel and I were shocked that there things they never took from me. I.E. pay stubs, letter from employer, tax transcripts, letter from my bank or my Rynga logs. They took our Skype and emails though. They also, had me keep a bunch of other relationship related items. I.E. cards I wrote to him, notes he wrote to me expressing his love, boarding passes etc...things from when I first came back in April/May.

The consular was American and seemed friendly, and arrived right at 2pm for the interview. She asked him to step up to the window in which she was sitting behind. We expected that he had to go in a room. So, she went on to ask the following:

a. How did you meet your fiancée? Facebook. She added me as a friend.
b. What do you mean she added you as a friend? What does that mean, I'm not familiar with how you add someone as a friend. Marcel went on to explain I was a friend of a friend.
c. So I see you met when..last April? Yes of 2009.
d. So when did your fiancée come here? This April 2010.
e. How long did she stay for? 1 month
f. Where were your pictures taken? Mostly in Harbour. (she wasn't familiar with the area where he mentioned)She went on to ask if that was near where he lived. He said yes in Girne.
g. So what do your parents do back in Nigeria? He explained his father owns his own business. What kind of business? He sells supplies to pharmaceutical companies. Where does he get his supplies from? Lagos, Nigeria.

I really think that was it with the questions. If I remember anymore I will let you know. Then she fingerprinted him and the computers broke down so he had to come back the next day and it took 3 days to get the visa which we picked up today.

With his visa he was given a sealed envelope that needs to be given to the immigration officer at JFK.

Hope this helps and ask me anything that you can think of along the way. if I can help I will gladly do that....

US Citizenship General Discussiondual citizenship
QUOTE (anca @ Oct 21 2009, 04:04 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
OK, so i found out that Romania accepts dual citizenship, I am about to apply for a U.S. passport and my romanian passport expires next year, I intend to keep my romanian citizenship so I will try to renew my romanian passport. Now the question is do I renew it in my maiden name or my married name.
I hope somebody has an answer.
Thanks.

Anca,

My romanian passport is expired now and I am not even considering to get a romanian one even if I will have dual citizenship. Why? There are a lot of papers and fees and the romanian embassy/ consulat are the worse (everything is handwritten and they will tell you one thing on the phone and another thing when you'll get there). I e-mailed them to ask about the papers that I need and they told me something different than what they have on their website but I was not suprised. It will be easier I heard if you go to Romania and get your passport there but I advice you to get it with your married name but that means you have to get your american marriage license recognized at "starea civila romana" and that takes time or bribe or both. For me it doesn't make sense to waste time and money on it.

I did not send any evidence in my I130 packet and was very afraid that I would get denied but it did not affect my case. Once you get approved, you get approved. If the person that is viewing your case at uscis feels like you did not provide enough evidence they will send you an rfe but I think you should be fine. It is your personal decision at the end of the day :) just call and make sure it won't delay or complicate things. And if you can't, you know what you got to do girl: get that maleta of evidence ready for your cita ;)

What I did was email it to him and then he signed it and scanned it back to me. I then printed it and filed out the information and then I mailed it like that. NVC accepted it. But one thing you need to remember is that at the consulate, they want ALL original copies. So make sure you fill ds230 form out and when you go for your cita, have your SO sign it. At the Dominican consulate, they won't accept anything that is scanned. It sounds more complicated than what it is lol let me know if you have any questions.
