I maybe should have been more clear about my letter to the President. I did not ask him to help get me approved in any way, I merely asked if it would be possible to make an inquiry as my Congressman had, and I told him how long I have been waiting, that I really loved my fiance, and if the delay was due to having to do a manual background check, that I am not a terrorist, nor smuggler or drug dealer!! On the website, there is an option that I chose for 'Help With a Government Agency' I know the president did not intervene, but just maybe, maybe a white house staffer called or emailed USCIS and that prompted the case officer to look again at my file :)

Likewise my letter to St. John was just a request for a speedy answer to my application, and that it be approved.

I just wanted to share some interesting points about my case to maybe help others in similar situation.......
I just got approved March 20th 2012 after a 7 month 1 day wait. I filed on Aug 19th 2011, had an RFE on Jan 13th 2012 asking for another passport photo of me. On March 1st my Congressman made inquiry to Vermont Service Center; the reply on March 7th, was that following my RFE, Vermont had 60 days in which to reply, which worked out to March 27th if counting 60 straight days, or April 23rd if the days were business days. Honestly I was getting worried, and even a little annoyed at the time it was taking, I saw many others getting approved who had only been waiting 4 months! I was told there really was nothing I could do, even getting Congressman to make another inquiry would not help, I was told USCIS does not report to Congress.

So.....I wrote a letter to the President! Using the White House web site, on March 15th. On March 24th I also wrote a letter to St. John of San Francisco (I am a convert to Russian Orthodox) who I was told during his life helped many immigrants.

March 20th I got my approval. Miracle or coincidence? I am not saying either one was the reason, in fact I do not even wish to ever find out what IF anything occurred, I like not knowing, and it sure makes a great tale one day for any grandchildren I might have.

I have question regarding NVC; on many timelines, I see where NOA2 for a K1 was followed in only 5-9 days by NVC received and then their NVC left is only a few days after that. My NOA2 letter is dated March 20th, and every time I call NVC they say they do not have my paperwork, it can take 15 business days. Does this mean that when I do call they will say they have had my paperwork since XXX and sent it out on XXX; or that they just got it, and now I must wait for them to send it out? Apart from issuing a new case number for us for the US embassy in Kiev, what does NVC do with a K1 visa package?

Hello VJ'ers,

I have a question on how to answer #32 of the DS-156 form. It asks "Do you intend to work in the US? yes/no, If yes, provide address of US employer.

My fiance does intend to work here, but not until after marriage and once we have obtained correct status to allow her to work, so therefore she does not have an employer. Do I answer no or yes? I do not want to answer no, and in 6 months or so when she applies for a job get bitten by immigration saying "Hey, you said you weren't going to work!"

Hello again fellow VJ'ers!

I am off to Ukraine for a month to be able to go with fiancee to interview in Kiev, and then to help pack her belongings for America!

I have (hopefully) 1 last question regarding form DS-230 Part 1, question 16. I think I am over thinking everything, but want to be sure. This question asks for spouse's name, I think they mean current spouse if married, and filing for a married visa, as this form is for many types of visa applications. Can anyone please confirm this, or am I wrong and it means her ex-spouse? Sorry for being a little stupid right now, but I am worrying over everything!!!

Hey my fellow VJ'ers,
Yesterday I accompanied my Ukrainian fiancee and her daughter to the US Embassy for her interview. All went well, I was pleasantly surprised that the cost went down, only paid $480 for the both of them. Interview was a piece of cake, 6 questions only. 1 to me, 1 to my fiancee's daughter and 4 to Vika. Although they understand that they still have a long way to go to complete all steps to becoming US citizens, I am sure glad that the wait to be together is over. The waiting and worrying (most of it needlessly) is very hard to go through, but looking back seems less a bother now that Vika is approved. I have completed an embassy review and updated timeline, I cannot wait for the 21st May when we all fly here to PA to be together as a family.

I just went through the interview with my Ukrainian fiance and her daughter on May 8th. It was so much easier than what my imagination was putting in my head. They were very polite and helpful. If you have the correct documents, and can answer 5-9 simple questions, we were asked 6, 1 to me, 1 to daughter and 4 to Vika, you will be approved. (please read my embassy write-up) I also have the feeling that once you have given them the papers, and before you go to window for interview they have already made their minds up, so as long as you do not make up answers, and you do not hesitate, all will be ok. Please feel free to send me message if you have any particular concern, as Vika or I are more than willing to tell you of our experiences.

I agree that cases may differ slightly due to securitization etc but fail to see how this can equate to several months without reason. My observation is not from my case but more so from looking at the vast differences in processing times listed by individuals on this website.

Going by the visa journey web site I am expecting or should I say hoping for my noa2 in early December. I guess that I, like many others find the process far from the most romantic start to ones married life!

I fully agree that visas should not just be given away but seriously six months or more for a K1!

To me application should be dealt with in accordance with the filed NOA1 date and that is I guess how it is supposed to happen. Granted that any case with a problem will take longer but the individuals should be notified accordingly and there are some but not many reasons for faster filing times.

So my question is why is there such large differences in NOA2 dates some lucky people have them back for September noa1 dates with no fast filing WHY any ideas?

It could not have been easier entering through Newark POE. Emma was all the way through customs and out the door to me in under 40 minutes from the time the plane reached the gate.

She went through the visitors line because it looked to be shorter than the USC line, was taken immediately to the secondary processing for new immigrants, and waited less than ten minutes to get her passport stamped. She was asked no questions whatsoever by the first CBP agent--she just handed him the package and her passport, and no questions from the agent in secondary processing, and no questions going through customs, even though she had two GIANT suitcases plus a carry on plus a computer bag.

The only disappointment if you want to call it that is that the I-551 stamp is so tiny--we had both imagined some big, fancy stamp taking up the whole page, but no--tiny is fine !!!

She is home, we are doing all the little things that need to be done to get ready for winter, and life is REALLY, REALLY good !!!

Hey VJ.

I am the USC petitioner.

I need some help. I was not planning to get my NOA2 so fast. I got it today. It's only been 4 weeks! :rofl: My husband and I were not planning for him to come till late april/early may so we decided it's best to delay the case a bit. For many reasons, it's best for us to wait. However, I want to make sure I do things right. I read some wiki guides, but i'm still a little confused about what to do next.

1. When do I call NVC to get a case number?? Do I still need to get a invoice identification number? What is the difference between that and a case number? Additionally, I would provide my email as well as my husbands....correct? :blink:

2. When do I email the DS-3032?? Right after I get the information above from NVC? :help:

3. Since I want to delay the case a bit, do I have to pay the fees (AOS and IV) asap? Or can this be delayed too?

4. If the fees cannot wait and I pay them soon, is this where I halt, and wait on sendings AOS and IV packets since I would like to delay the case for a couple of months? :help:

Just a quick question regarding joint accounts. USCIS say that a joint account is one of the acceptable forms of a 'proof of relationship', but my fiances bank will not allow us to open one, so was wondering if anyone can tell me which banks will allow us to open a joint account (even if its just a savings account) while I am still an English resident?

I work at a small bank and counld add my husband on becuse he didnt have a social security number. so what i did was add him on as "In Trust FOR" (aka benificary) on the account, and it prints on the statment with both names but list him as ITF (in trust for). Cross my fingers that's good enuff. Im going to my husband next month and he's going to attempt to put me on his account. you may wanna try that too.

Hello,

I decided to subscribe to this website since I have been reading posts on here on a regular basis. Basically, I would like to hear about other people's experiences on processing times. Today, NVC sent me an email stating that they have received all of my wife's civil documents and that now all that we need is to wait for someone to schedule an appointment for her interview. The UCIS first accepted our I-130 petition on August 24th, four days after sending them in.

The process had been moving along fairly quickly up until the sending of the docuements. What my wife and I are freaking out about is having to spend another Christmas apart (we're young adults in college, we don't have the money to keep sending me off to Mexico). I heard that NVC could take up to a month to give out appointments, is this true? Do you guys think we might get in before December 25th? And I doubt that pleading to NVC to get her here before the holidays will work. I know this might sound selfish, but in the six years that we have been together, we miss each other's holidays and I am fed up. I would appretiate some advice.

1st off all you should fill out ur time line, Knowing ur NOA2 date and other date can help someone give you a better answer. By doing that you can also compair other people's time line that is similar to yours. also you may want to click on "Portals" on the menu bar and it will show you other users in your spouse country.
alot of people's time line i look at usually takes 8 months (5 at USCIS and 3 between NVC and interview). December 25th may not happen this year if it hasn't even been completed by NVC. But keep praying and maybe it will.
** you also mentioned that you all are 2 young adults in college, make sure your AOS check out with the poverty guidlines. seen some poeple get so far and be turned down becuz of the affidavit of support.

hey guys. on august, when i was lpr, i filed i130 for my wife. and on sep, i became a citizen. i called uscis( cuz the case is pending in uscis for approval) and sent the copy of citizenship certificate and noa1 to uscis to asked them to upgrade the case classfication from f2a to cr1 for my wife..however, one month passed, i dont get any information about that..so wt should i do now.. how long i should wait for the processing time.



Did you get anything back yet??? I got my Natrulization Certificate on Nov 28th and i called, email and postal mail the request for upgrade. The guy at USCIS told me over the phone i will receive something in 15 days... guess that may not be true... I was hoping if we did the upgrade n had it in their hand why not approve/deny it while they are at it :wacko: wishfull thinking... I got 3 more months to go.. how bout you?

K1 VISA Is for unmarried people with the intend to marry in the us. Basically the visa is given to u to enter to us n get married with in a certain time frame. So that all u get out of a K1 (until u apply for the other things u could get automaticly with a CR1)

CR1 is if u are married n ur spouse will be moving to the us permanently. Out of this u get the visa, green card n apply for social security card.

In my opinion K1 Visa is more hassle, money n headache.

The government didn't trick u. There are diffrent visas designed for different situations, u have to decide which one best fits ur situation.

I need a little clarification from those who walk down this road before me. Now that My NOA2 was approved, how long exactly does it take for USCIS to send my file to NVC? When NVC get my file how will I be notified? What should I expect now that I am waiting? My husband is the USC will he be the one who will get some form of contact from NVC only? We are not using a lawyer. I have already gotten my police certificate and I have already prepared my DS-230 its in an envelope now for the post.


It varies when USCIS sends the cases over Some goes in one week while others wait. THere is no set time.
Recently NVC had been taking around 10 days give or take to asing case numbers.
it's best you call as much as you can becaause you will get the case number wayyy before that email comes.
While you are waiting make sure you husband has every thing ready to send (but when u get ur case number have him put it on the upper right hand corner of each paper. on my Marriage certificate i wrote it in pencil).
you will receive the DS3032 that will allow you to assign him as you agent. (use the email format and email this over as soon as you get your case number. SO far everything they sent to me the CC my husband in the email so we both got the emails.
I'm not using a Lawyer.
you have the police certificate and DS-230 or did you send it to you husband? that goes in the IV packet that you will send after he pays the IV bill and print out the barcode. I had my husband send everything to me because mail from trinidad takes 4 week to get to me.

you should go to the NVC filer May 2012 thrend and look at the links in the 1st post. it tells you step by step what to do. and in Saylin's signature there is a like with all of our processing times.

First of all I am not sure if your hubby got any vaccine at all or if is up to date( with use of an immunization card) also I dont know about his age group. Patients over the age of 45 do not all get HepA or Hep B. The doctor will decide that. MMR= Measles mumps and rubella. This can b give in one dose (shot). TD shot is for blood poisoning. Eg dog bite lacerations ( car accidents or old metal cutting you).Meningococcus vaccinaton help prevent A bacterium (Neisseria meningitidis) that causes cerebrospinal meningitis.


He's 27 and has no Vaccines done since he was a little kid.

ok well the Hep A and Hep B is over $300tt each and the varicella ( chicken pox) thats about $350. Those are the expensive ones. The Hep B is 3 shots spaced out. M M R those can b given in one shot. Td single shot. Monongoccous priced a little over $300 and is given in one shot.

Ok so I guess I am on target I got them all and yes I am over 18 and under 65. The ones you will be required to have in 2 doses will be the Hep A and the HEP B. Intervals are 6 weeks apart minimum. Sugarz Your husband can go to his helath center in his area and get his free. The Chicken Pox and the HEP A are not offered free so he will have to get that done at a Doctor's office. Maybe he is out of time now since his medical will be like next week, so I guess he will have to wait for the day of the medical to have things done there instead. Vaccinations can only be given either all together or in 6 weeks to 2 month intervals depending on the vaccine. I work at a health facility.


Thank you I was confused about the "all at once or 6 weeks to 2 mths part" so i just let it go. We have $1000 TTD put aside for the medical, they told him walk with $535TTD so i guess the rest will be sufficent enuff to cover the Vaccines. Just like everyone else i cant wait for this to be over. I remember when my dad took me when i was 16 to get my medical in POS done we left, went to get the other vaccines and then went back, but i couldnt rember y till now lolll. I hope they doctor doesnt charge too much for the ones my hubby can get for free at the clinc.

Hi All

Just wanted to share some (hopefully) useful information regarding gathering information for your interview in Trinidad. :

1. Police Record / Certificate of Character - take 2 - 2 1/2 weeks to be ready. You can get this at ANY station. I would advise to call ahead, as not all can process it on the same day.

2. Marriage license & Birth Certificate - go between 6.30-7.30am to the registration office to make the request and pay the fee (currently $25TTD ea). The Marriage Certificate will take about a week to collect and Birth Certificate you can get on the same day. (This time frame was applicable to Port-Of-Spain office)

3. Medical / Vaccines : There are only two doctors in Trinidad registered with the US Embassy for medicals One in Port-of-Spain and the other in San Fernando. There is one in Tobago. Required for medical: (2) passport photos, passport and ID/Driver Permit, Fee ($$535TTD), Embassy appointment letter, immunization records. The doctor's office will schedule your appointment only have you have gotten your appointment date.

I went to the south doctor, he will do everything there x-rays, blood test, urine test and vaccines.

There are 3 vaccines for anyone from 18-64 that is required/ or have done recently within the last 10 years: TD, MMR & Varicella. MMR & Varicella are supposed to be in two doses, but the doc said it's okay to have the one before the interview, as it has to be taken about 4-6weeks after.
Varicella is not offered at the public health offices. It is not free. On Avg $350-$400TTD. The Embassy Doctors sell it a little cheaper than other private doctors. TD & MMR are available at no cost to TT citizens (have your previous immunization card/ copy of it). Suggestion - take the Varicella on the same day of your medical and go to the free health center for the other two the next day. (call the health center to ensure you can go that day - you will have to go by 8am more than likely)

If you have to take any vaccines they ALL must be done within 24hours. Otherwise you have to take the other in about 6 weeks.

The IV stands for Immigrant Visa it's $404 i think. you should join the trend called "Nvc March 2012" alot of ppl there are at the same point you are. Im still waiting for my case number so i can't tel you much. you also will be able to garther infor from there time line in their signature.

That is the point I was making. I have known many women who converted simply to please a man. They had no clue of the religion before hand. No, not every woman is like that. Also, some of these women who do convert to please their man end up loving the religion. I've met those women, too. I would hope that Muslim men marrying outside of their faith are doing it for other reasons besides converting the woman.

and I know there are woman out there.. who do NOT research Islam.. have NO clue about the religion and Blindly convert... BUT not every woman is like that..

Was the one that detonated himself running from capture, or was it on purpose right there? Do you think it is good that he didn't plan it well enough to kill anyone else. I read somewhere that it is a good sign that they apparently weren't trained well enough to do more damage, lack funding perhaps. Is it possible that could be the case?

I read that briefing a few days ago. Was disappointing and didn't say anything that would make any of us feel better. The only upside for me and mine is that we'll have more recent pictures to give them of my second visit. Leaving May 10.

i know i wont lie down but there is only so much we can do ladies, only so many call emails we can make them go crazy and they would never want to open up. maybe ALLAH has something better planner for us then this, you maybe teach us something for show us something that love needs patience and thorough thoughts and patience. but i know one thing i have learned from this. i wont with this process on anyone else. not even my worst enemy. i pray that everyone has a good peaceful interview in the weeks to come and pray that everyone will get what they want. as far as doing what we can do is what we do.

I love Islam its the best religion . i know i have changed but thats what happens when it comes to changing religions from being a hardly going to churcher to praying everyday so much, but i love it.

The calls are being made and the e-mails sent. Calls there and calls here to the DOS. So far, all are to no avail. There is nothing we can do to make them open any quicker than they plan to. This is much bigger than any of us. I'm not sure what kind of security reviews they are doing seeing as how they had tight security to begin with and it was never breached. They are being reactive and sadly, at this point, not much that can be done.


sorry my fiance i think likes to think he is me sometimes but that wasnt me. i know you ladies are all in the same boat as me. i know that we are doing as much as we can for our men, emails calling and impatience is killing us all. unreturned emails are killing me unanswered prayers maybe ALLAH is doing this for a reason? but me i dont want to wait another 6 or more months to touch zakaria again i cant have that. you know i have been trying to contact the embassy its expensive and waste a $1 a min to talk to someone my fiance thinks they annoying the consulate will get us somewhere but i dont think it will. he said they are lazy but i know there has to be something more behind why they are closed so long.you know its not like it was hard for the terrorists to blend in... But going crazy is what everyone is doing. i understand sometimes crying on eachother shoulders is what we can do and all we can do let things takes it course ALLAH is making them wait for something what i dont know but something good inchallah. well must be back to getting ready to leave home getting my new apartment:D:D:D

hey ladis i think that we have to keep calling casa all of us everybody everyday keep annoyen bc if we stay like this waitting they dont give a ###### and they will never we have to make them work for us and for or fiance my sweetheart messed his interview and we are going insane right now :wacko: bc if he had it the day he suposed to,he would had visa in hand this week :crying: :crying: :crying: i feel so sad and very angry :angry: we have to work together to make them hate why they closed, come on ladis move dont sit there and cry on each other shoulders :wacko: :wacko:

i lost the job i have a job atdish network i gave my house to my brothers and father they paid me for it. and i still have my car. i work about 80 hours a week and am on my own now still. i just have an apartment the house needed too much repair for my pocket to afford so my brother is a carpenter other brother is an electrcian my dad is a plumber welder carpenter house inspecter and electrician as well. hows it going wtih you?

what a bunch of pansies. my poor sweetheart last day had his interview and had vigirous training from me answering every question right and properly and fast. i got a call this morning at 4h45 am (i went to bed at 3 bc i couldnt sleep i knew something was going to happen good or bad) he called me and said baby the embassy is closed today. i shot up in bed said a few chosen words and tried to calm down both of us. i started to cry (so much for calming down) then crying turned to sobbing and boogers shooting out of my nose. we talked for a little we were told to email them he did for me and it came back the same ####### as always we are unavailable bc the embassy is closed blah blah blah i am sorry the bombings were almost 3 weeks ago ( i think) and they are still closed. talk about lazy i understand but we were beyond ready he had everything set but now we have waisted a whole day and a very tired sweetie and i went into work so tired. it sucks working with the public trying to fix their equipment when i had a horrible call from my sweetie. well that is all said and done i am going to buy a phone card to call casa and get them a hello they never thought would happen.

ladies and gents if your finace is from morocco call before you think they have their interview dont email call. the email is lame and tells you nothing dial the number its on the embassy info you find morocco if you use a prepaid phone card its like a dollar a min(rediculous) but anyhting for my man. so call them before they have their interview if they have one within the next 2 weeks . I AM SERIOUS and keep calling until you get someone it took my 15 misn to get to someone but it was worth it.
