Might sound really bad but i find it easier doing it myself, getting him to quickly check it and sign it! He is the petitioner but too be fair he is a typical guy and he has to 'think' about everything first so i fill out the forms, send them to him, get the info together and in return he listens to me going on about the visa.....ill just be happy when i have visa in hand.

Ok, its time to call of my VJ Helpers again! I am wondering, Patrick has only electronic copies of his pay slips and his W2 Tax forms, (he doesnt get hard copies) and he has turned them into PDF's for me (so i can print them).

Will the embassy accept these as evidence on our I-134? If not i will have to get him to print them off the website (not sure if they will be any different mind you). The ones i have, have all the info on.

Thanks

you dont need a special courier service. the next day signed for is what we used and was fine. just dont expect dos to be able to tell you that the embassy got it for a bit. we mailed ours next day on august 26th and dos didnt have it in their system until september 30th even tho it was signed for on august 27th.

So is it better to send courier, will it be logged quicker?

John completed his forms and checklist and is sending them courier to the Embassy tomorrow (i hope). They should have our packet 3 Thursday (10-29). With any luck we will have an interview in a few weeks. Police cert scheduled to arrive tomorrow or Thursday at his residence.

Heres to Hoping! Best of luck to all!!

Hello

Just wondering, do you need to courier everything to the embassy? Can i not send it signed for next day delivery so i know it got there but it doesnt cost the earth or is courier a requirement?

Thanks

Hi

I'd be really grateful if you would keep me informed about your petition. Ours was shipped on the same day as yours so would be nice if you hear anything if you could let me know and vice versa? Im assuming they send one big packet with everything in rather than each individual petition.

I hope everyone gets moving soon, i think this is the hardest thing i have ever had to do and all for love!

No problem! I love this website. I've been lurking in this thread for a while and it's helped me so much; to at least to get a general idea of the process, and what to expect. I sort of expected to get stuck at NVC for a while (thankfully that didn't happen) but I didn't expect this weird petition stuck in a box thing at the embassy. So now that we know we aren't the only ones, I think it's wonderful that we can keep each other informed.

And to Justine+David, let's just hope they get on the ball and start processing our stuff. I have a feeling it will be soon.

Thank you to everyone posting in this thread, you guys have helped me soooo much!

Hi Judi

Just to let you know and anyone else that had their petition delivered to London on the 8th Oct, they have received and logged mine and packet 3 is in the post! Yay, i am at work at the moment but really just feel like shouting this from the rooftops!! I am so, so happy. One step closer to being with my baby!

Give them a call and i really hope you are in the same position.

Good luck

I just wanted to chime in that I also am experiencing, shall we say, technical difficulties with our K-1.

According to NVC the petition was sent out October 6th; and it looked like London received it on October 8th. When I called DOS last week I spoke with someone who stated that our petition was received electronically, but they had not received the actual paperwork. When I inquired as to the meaning of "electronic" she was so kind to inform me that it's like "E MAIL. DO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT IS?"

So, in any event, for anyone wondering what that means, I think she cleared that up. idea9dv.gif

I called back today and was told that the embassy still had not received the paperwork. So it's been 18 days for us; and nothing. I am so grateful for those of you that have posted about this because for the last week I have been losing my mind; not that it's a good thing that this is happening to any of us; but I am in a way glad to see that we aren't alone, that it seems to be something of a backlog in London.

I called DOS this morning, still could not confirm that London has received the box that DHL shows delivered on 10/19. She told me that it could take them as long as a month. She also told me that sometimes the embassies get the boxes and then don't open for awhile.

I guess they might take a bit since the box the day before was close to 50 pounds? It has been a week and I just really wish they would hurry up. Also, more postal strikes will happen this week, especially in London.

Are there any people lurking that have had this same issue with London?

Jewel

Supposidly our package was shipped to london on the 5th October and i looked on the DHL thing and it shows a delivery to London on the 8th (may not be our info but im assuming it would be) we still have not heard anything, its been 21 days, im starting to worry. I called DOS quite a few times (and have been told London has not yet received our approved petition) and the last lady told me to stop calling and wait for the embassy to get in touch with me......so, so frustrating! Im taking it her partner is in the same country as her otherwise she would be more sympathetic.

Urgh, i just hate not knowing whats going on!

You can pay your doctor for your medical history, that should have all his vaccinations on??

Technically you can book a medical as soon as you know your Case Number. The medical doctor doesn't ask for an Interview date, just the case number.

http://www.usembassy...ical_letter.pdf

Medical in the UK is valid for up to 12 months.

I would wait for the embassy to receive the petition first. Call DOS once they confirm London have received the petition, book your medical.

Thank you, i am not in any major rush as we would like to get married in Sept so an interview late Dec/early Jan will be fine so i shall carry on getting everything together and wait for packet 3 until i book my medical.

Thanks again

I have a couple of questions - our petition left the NVC in america on the 5th Oct but has still not arrived at the English Embassy, could something be wrong?

My other question is, my fiance is in the american armed forces and may get posted somewhere other than america to live, could we still use our K1 to get married, leave america and apply for our K3 in a different country?

Thanks
Lesley

I'm sorry I can't really answer your military questions - but your fiance should have some resources available to get those questions answered for you (and help doing the forms maybe!!) I would think there are some provisions which wouldn't force you to give up your residency if you followed him to live on an American base. However, I do think he'd have to be here long enough to marry you so you can get the ball rolling on AOS.

As to your embassy receipt question: I'm sure they must have physically received it now, but it just isn't entered into their system - it's a bit of a two step process, they have to get your packet out and set things in motion. Meanwhile, order your police cert, schedule your medical and get those packet 3 forms filled in so you're ready to send them all back with the checklist as soon as DOS says they have acknowledged it.

Am i being stupid here or is there too much to take in!!? Can i book a medical without knowing if the Embassy has our petition and without packet 3?

Thanks

Yes, phoning the DOS is handy. I forgot to ask them yesterday WHEN the London consulate received and logged our petition so I called today and found out that they logged us on Oct 8th, so we have a little bit before a interview...but still....i'm just PO'd cause a friend on VJ had theirs logged Oct 1st and their interview is Oct 21st, talk about LUCKY. ARRRGH.

See, we have a little time as we would like our wedding to be Sept 10, 2010 and it will be ideal for me to leave England for the States in June so we can save a little bit more money due to me not being able to work. Our I-129F runs out 25th Jan so if we get an interview in Jan that would be perfect! I hope you guys dont have to wait to long, its the waiting that sucks sad.gif Just think though, soon all of this will be over and you'll be together always smile.gif

You have way more strength than me! This wait to be with Nigel is really difficult...miss him big time! The sooner the better over here!

Dont get me wrong, the wait is killing me! I love Patrick so much that it truly hurts not being with him but i also know we would like a nice wedding, nice furniture and all of that costs money. At least when we have the visa in hand its only a countdown til were together forever rather than a week or two. Good luck with getting your interview. Let me know how long it took to get it.

I think that you should give them until Monday, maybe they haven't put your file in the system yet. You can always call DOS and find out whether London has put your case in the system, sent out packet 3, or assigned you an interview date. The # for Department of State (DOS) is 202-663-1225, press 1, then 0 to speak to a DOS rep.

Brilliant! Thanks, i didn't realise i could find that out. I will wait until Moday and then call the DOS if i have not heard anything.

Thank you everyone for all the information on here, it has been so very helpful. I hope that my Paul and I will fall in to the same boat and once we get out of AP at NVC, our process will move quickly. Wedding date planned for 28 January 2010, and I think we can still make that date, so long as our file begins to move again. We have everything ready to send back to the consulate the moment Paul receives his packet. He has in possession or is in process of receiving this week, all of his documentation. I do have one question... what constitutes "proof of engagement"? I gave him a promise ring, but that was the only exchange. Would one of our wedding invitations be appropriate? (LOL they are not invited to attend, unless they can get him here before Christmas and his birthday - joke there, of course, not bribing gov't officials).

Best of luck to all and may you be reunited with your loved ones soon and never have to say long good-byes again!

Malena star_smile.gif

Hi Malena, John and I each wrote a aletter to each other as a commitment to marry when we sent in our I-129F, that might help, if you have bought rings they accept receipts of purchase of those too. I'm sending my wedding invitation to the embassy in my packet as well so they can see my scheduled date. I'm also sending my contract wih the chapel showing its reservation date. Good Luck on your Journey!!

I photocopied the reciept for my ring, the business card of the person we got it from, congrats from our friends on facebook but forgot to save my engagement cards from friends sad.gif I was going to send one of my invitations and information from vendors i am talking to for the wedding but a little scared to do this incase they see it as us being too cocky and thinking were going to get the visa.....do you think they will think like that?

We're in the same situation, getting our NOA2 so much earlier than we expected. We've set a wedding date of Sept 11, 2010, but we'll probably have a court wedding before then.

He had plans to quit his job in April and spend a month or two going around the UK hiking and saying goodbye to everyone...and he's planned to come to the US in February so we can do an engaged encounter retreat, meet my relatives, etc, so we're hoping to not get the visa until after the middle of February.

That puts us just over 4 months of the NOA2 expiration, so I think I've read on here that you just have to contact the embassy and tell them you would like them to extend it and then send in notarized letters of intent from each party during the interview?

So your getting married a day after Patrick and I hopefully! Where are you getting married? Your lucky he can come over, before i even started the visa process i went to Patrick's for 5 weeks and was stopped and had my luggage searced at customs, the officers were convinced we were going to get married while i was there (because i had a tiara for a hair practice), i mean, how else are you meant to plan a wedding in another country, you cant do it all by email. Anyway, he let me in after about 2 hours of being questioned but told me that he was going to put something on my file so i couldnt come to america again until the visa was issued!!! So, now im too scared to try just incase sad.gif I'd love to go and organise some more things, meet more of the family.

Anyway, i think i may take the advice of holding onto the checklist and then requesting a later interview. Good luck with extending your NOA2, let me know how you get on as may need more advice from you!!

MARM, I think she's trying to say that she applied for the K-1 early so they would have it in time for their wedding which is Sept 10th, 2010. But at the minute things are at their fastest so she's afraid she's going to get the K-1 too soon and the visa will be expired before the time to fly over for their wedding which the date she can enter the US on the K-1 and still get married would be Mid June, so she needs her visa to be good by mid June. Which means only getting her visa approved after Mid Dec.

Not many have this issue, because things have been so slow, and just picked up speed so probably when she applied it was said to apply that early, but looking at it now you don't have to plan that far ahead.

Just keep the checklist (packet 3) until mid-end of November and you should be fine getting an interview after Dec 15th. If you're really concerned about it, Just send a cover letter with your checklist explaining you won't be able to attend the interview until after the 15th of Dec. I don't think it'd be frowned on, I've seen others do it with no problem.

Damien & Kelly that is exactly what i was asking, thanks. Basically we got told it would take about 5 months to get our NOA2 and we actually received it after 11 weeks! I will do as advised and get all the info together and then hold onto the package and send off a little later than normal then.

If need be i will do the cover letter also. We would love a September wedding but when push comes to shove i would rather the early wedding and a visa in hand than a later wedding date but no visa because i have held out too long!

With not being able to work until after the wedding we wanted as long as possible to save, so the longer im in England in work, the more money we will have for our life together.

Does anyone know if you are able to apply for a work visa now or do you definately have to wait until after your married?

Thanks again

I am wondering, my fiance and i would like to get married 10th Sept 2010 but this means we would need to get our visa in hand after 15th Dec to ensure we stick with the timelines (enter 6 months, 90 days to get married) if we get it before the 15th Dec then we are going to have to move the wedding forward.

Does anyone know if i can request an interview date after 15th Dec (it seems everyone gets the interviews really quickly in London) or will i be frowned upon wanting it on a certain date?

4. The air force send pay slips electronically, if we download and print these will these be ok?

Thanks for all your help

1. List where he is currently stationed
2. No, leave it blank
3. no
4. Yes.

QUOTE (Nik+Heather @ Oct 30 2009, 01:42 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Lesley, Before you request an interview date in Jan, you might want to look at the AOS process.

If you get the visa in Jan, you'll have to travel by June, and while you'll meet the requirement of marrying in 90 days of entry, (barely) you certainly won't have time to get your AOS NOA1 before you're out of status. It's just not a position you want to plan to be in. At least give yourself a month (2 weeks for marriage cert to arrive + 1 week mailing AOS TO USCIS + 1 week mailing time NOA1 TO you) to work with.

Stephanie,

As I sort of mentioned in your other thread, I think you should send in packet 3+checklist after the trip in April. No, they don't think it's strange when you ask for extensions or delays - they understand that some people like to actually plan ahead, and sometimes they plan a little TOO far ahead. Good luck!

Hi, yes, i might have to look into seeing if we can have the interview in Feb urgh, this is such a pain! I did read thoug that lots of people file their AOS a few days or weeks outside the 90 days and its all been fine. Its a dangerous game but we will see.

Hello

Im wondering if anyone else has had a similar situation. We want our wedding to be the 10th September so need to get our visa anytime after 17th December (due to the timelines) but would prefer an interview date in Jan. Has anyone ever sent in their checklist with a covering letter asking for a certain date (not a specific date) any date in Jan will do before our petition expires?

I am worried about sending in everything too early and then not being able to have an interview after 17th Dec but also worried about holding things back and then the embassy not logging them for a few weeks and then our interview date being a few weeks later and before we know it our petition has expired.

Aaargh! Any advice on if a letter asking for an interview date in Jan would help?

Thanks

Yes! I did exactly this and included a cover letter and the Embassy gave me the month I wanted. I received Packet 4 from the Embassy in Sept 2008, waited till Nov to send it back and asked for an interview in January. They gave me an interview on Jan 12th I think it was.

I sent them an email as the interview was going to be outside the 4 month validity of the approval of the petition. They replied basically saying not an issue just bring an updated letter of intent from your fiancee. They didn't actually ask for it at the interview although that could have been because my fiancee was there.

Good luck!

Thanks very much, definately puts your mind at rest when you know that someone has done it and received a date in the month they requested. Thank you!

They shouldn't have a problem with you requesting an interview in January. It's harder for them to schedule quick interviews for those who didn't allot themselves enough time when planning the visa. London are very good about accomodating interview requests, especially if you are asking for something later, rather than sooner. This is not something to fret about, and definitely something that you shouldn't lose slep over. Relax! smile.gif

Bless you, i have never met you and you know me too well....i am losing sleep! I am finding this process so stressful and im just worried about waiting but not wanting to wait too long.

Right, when i have had my medical i will send the checklist back and request an interview for January....thank you

Yes, many have attached letters requesting an interview within a specific timeframe. I know of a JUly VSC filer who is also planning on doing this as well so that she can be with her fiance in London during that time.

Good luck and keep us posted!!

Brilliant, thanks for this. Ill let you know how it goes. Do you know if the July VSC Filer has got a date in the month she wanted? Im so worried they will look at the letter and ignore it sad.gif

United KingdomCheap Shipping From UK to USA

I just came back from my local DHL office. I went there to get some packing materials, which they didn't have. The man at the desk gave me a quote for the dimensions of my package. 10x50x65(pictures in frames) it would cost 97 pounds. He then told me that there is a company that buys space on DHL flights. And that they had a website for parcel shipping and it was a lot cheaper than regular DHL although it really is still DHL. He went to this website and got a quote with the same dimensions and it would cost 37 pounds. Now that is cheaper. He told me that you type in all of your shipping details and then print all of the shipping labels. They will come to you to pick up the parcels, or you can drop it off at your local DHL. Imagine that.

The website is

www.parcelmonkey.co.uk

Hope this helps someone.

Thanks for this information, i want to ship some pictures and a few others bits (probably only a suitcase worth and the pics) and have been quoted £500+ from other places! As soon as i know about my visa i am gonna look into this. Thanks!

That really sounds like something I would say. I hope someone talks to me.. I don't think I could manage the wait lol

Mine was ok, I was number I871, seemed to take ages to get to me lol. I had the old man with grey hair @ box 16, he asked me how I met Mel, how long have we been engaged and where we plan on living when I get there, thats it. The whole 2nd interview took about 8 mins. So, when do you plan on flying out?

I am gonna fly out end June for a September wedding, what about you? You weren't the guy in the shirt and tie talking to loads of different people? I wanted to be near that guy, no-one spoke to me :(

Congrats! Hopefully it wasn't as bad as we all think it's going to be. I spend so much time thinking about it...it's not healthy! Did he go with you? I was wondering what they asked if he was with you.

hey, I have been stressing about the interview for months, What would they ask me, how would I reply, what if my mind went blank etc etc!

Patrick couldn't come with me, he came over at Christmas and he is in the USAF so is training to go into a new role so was unable to get time off. Anyway, I probably sat there for about two hours before I got called to give my evidence. Handed over I-134 and supporting docs, pics, passport, police checks, intent to marry etc then sat back down (i had more evidence than anyone there, I had taken copies of everything we had sent to the embassy starting with our I-129f, I was actually quite embarrassed by the size of my folder!)

Anyway it work cause 30 mins after handing over all my evidence I got called to my interview. Had to raise my right hand, swear everything was true and then he asked me when did Patrick and I get engaged and when did we meet and then told me he had reviewed my case and I had been approved!!!! Other than that he talked about how good my memory was with dates :-)

I don't personally think it makes any difference whether your fiancé comes or not. The embassy are interested in you at this point and ensuring your not a burden kn the country! More than anything your fiancé is there for support to you. Good luck though when you do get your visa interview, it us definately no-where near as bad as we all think it is!

I doubt it. The first thing they look at is income; if that's okay, then they won't care to look at anything else. (That's how it seemed to me when I went for my interview)

I'm kicking myself, I thought we had everything and now I'm stressing out! What should have been an early night is now gonna be a sleepless one :(

I just sent you an email actually!

Can anyone tell me, if we have put On the I-134 that Patrick has life insurance of 400,000 do we need to bring evidence that he does have this or should we be ok because he is way above the poverty line?

forgot to add, my interview is tomorrow and somehow we missed this! Will it affect us getting the visa do you think?
